Good to know. Thank you. By the way, your video sound quality is absolutely awesome! No issues at all for me.
Thanks miss Carmen!
I think extreme temps effect all the brands of battery operated tools. I don't have Flex but I have several other name brands that operate on 18 or 20 volt batteries. I read in the manuals that the batteries are effected by extreme temps both hot and cold. That's why I've always kept my batteries in the house. Right now the news is reporting that battery operated vehicles are also being effected by the heat so I think it's a problem with most types of batteries. Appreciate your honesty in letting us know the problem that surfaced.
You make a good point. That sort of heat probably does affect pretty much all of the batteries.
That's pretty crazy about the EV cars though!
I have outdoor wall lights that say not to use them above 40 C (~103.5 farenheit), along with many other electronics.
I wouldn't put black batteries that absorb heat outside under the sun at those temps and expect them to work for long, if my steering wheel scorches my hand when it's 85 degrees imagine a hot battery at 105.
The only tool I push hard is my 6" Bosch dual mode sander so I'm not worried.
Plus my Flex tools all have that lifetime warranty, I expect them to be many years old and sold/replaced with updated models long before any of them break.
I have used my flex in texas over 100 degrees never had that problem been using them for years now.
No kidding? Maybe we just got a bad one or something.
I don't have any Flex tools right now, but that's good to know. Thanks for the advice.
Any time, man!
👍👍👍. Thank you boys
Any time, Pete👍👍
Thanks for the heads-up, i have a flex router and only 1 batt. I do like that the charger has a fan on it and how fast it charges though.
Any time! The flex tools are great, but this was an issue. The more I read the comments though, that sort of heat will probably all platforms of battery operated tools
I've heard about this other places. They seem like real good tools, but they need to figure that out
I agree, but that's not to say other tools might do the same. We've never used battery operated saws like this so it might be the same across the board
Just a suggestion, if I had your situation, I would get a refrigerator just for the batteries. That will cool them down faster and it might help you yem operate longer before you have to put them back in the frig.
That's a great idea! We do that with our spray and it works great!
Time to move to Arkansas! 😉
😂😂 I couldn't agree more!
Same issue here in Connecticut. I have my Flex drill and the batteries actually leak a black residue in heat conditions but continue to work.
Its water repelant grease thats been heated to much. It'll work for a while longer. Mine lasted me over a year with the grease . The warrenty holds i got a new one in the mail.
I've heard of that but we haven't had that issue yet
Good to know👍👍
I’ve had them for a couple years now and keep them in work van with no issues , and as you know it’s gets pretty humid in CT .
They're great tools, but the heat just beats everything up
I seem to be a Dewalt and Wen guy.
I like DeWalt, but flex does make some great tools
Yeah working in 101-110 degrees is great and all, but batteries arent meant for that kind of heat. Just go warrenty it. But for that heat used corded.
Yeah, it's pretty rough out here HAHA
Power vs. Weight vs. Reliability. In engineering these are the 'knobs to turn'. Getting all 3 to go up in a new design is very difficult to do. If there was a magic switch that just made everything better in all regards, everyone would do it.
The result is typically a trade-off. Flex is pulling a lot of power for 24V. Power is heat. Dissipating heat is weight.
I myself am at a point where I don't really need more power from handheld tools. I'm not waiting with baited breath for a circular saw to go faster than the DWS577, etc. I don't sit around saying "I just can't get this job done with the power of current recip saws from Milwaukee, Flex, or Makita."
Since current high-end tools rip like crazy, the power revolution could end tomorrow for all I care and they focus more on Reliably working day-in/out at curling power outputs.... and also, Weight. This applies to all OEMs.
Cheers.
That's well thought out. You make some good points
Now this is excellent information. Truly makes a lot of sense. Glad I read this comment.
As somebody that works in construction mostly doing finish work these days i got to say a battery powered table saw and miter saw is absolutely worthless ive seen dewalt and Milwaukee go down within 3-6 months after you buy them.
I've been wondering about this. Construction put a lot of abuse on a tool and I'm not sure battery operated is the way to go to miter and table saws
Yup. You got energy in sacks and batteries and people expect them not only last forever but work through all kinds of abuse. Most do for a while. People have to measure expectations
You make a good point
Sounds like a good excuse for AC in the shop.😊
If they got the cash for a turbo powered on they should buy it.
😂😂Heck yeah it does!!
Might have to look into that.
You might want to look into Mr. Cool, who has diy air conditioning units.
Thanks for the input
We are living in the dark ages in terms of energy and battery technology. The amount of patents that have been taken away through Military National Security is rumored to be at least 5,000. Many of those would include new battery technology that would solve all of the problems with current lithium batteries.
I don't know, it seems like they last longer than the ones from 20 years ago did
Please get a good quaility remote microphone to use with your phone to make your sound quality better. With all the videos you make you shiuld be ysing one all the time.
Was the sound messed up? It sounded good during the editing process
@@oldave100 the sound wasnt loud enough. I gad everything turned up.
@@oldave100 sound seemed good just weak
OK
Welp....As I've mentioned before here and in other groups when people are asking "What brand should I get".....NEVER have I said "Flex".
Small job stuff, such as driving in a screw or bolt, no need for a $200 - $300 tool, Ryobi works just fine.
Tablesaws and Miter Saws though....Unless you have the space for a full sized Tablesaw, GO DEWALT!!! Same thing for Miter saws, GO DEWALT!!!
These tools and Brand are specifically designed to LAST and work hard.
Got my Dewalt Tablesaw (DW 744 Type 1) back when I was 17 years old. I am 50 years old now and this Tablesaw is STILL in my shop, works great NEVER had any issues and IS my ONLY Tablesaw, so I use it daily. That's 33 years of Wood cutting and it's STILL accurate to the .007th.
My Dewalt Mitersaw got replaced about 5 years ago but I bought the SAME type I had before and that one was also around 30ish years old....only reason I replaced it was because I was a dummy and let someone borrow it ONE TIME....They broke the handle because they stepped on/tripped over it....otherwise I'd still have it and to this day, I don't let anyone touch my tools.
DeWalt definitely makes great tools!
