I agree, that's something I was thinking about this entire time. I've dated someone with a different first language than me before, and it was kind of like with Juan Pablo where some statements just sounded so off and almost disrespectful. But looking back, I honestly really believe that it was due to the insert of one word as you're saying that changed the entire statement. Just food for thought before starting to judge someone.
I really don’t see the problem with Juan Pablo. To me, it seems Andi was looking for this big reaction but his calm demeanor and saying it’s okay is perfectly fine! What did she want? For him to cry and beg for her to stay? No, he respects her feelings and was honest with her. He tried to reassure her that it’s okay. Then, Clare would have said yes if Juan would have proposed to her! She was all excited until he said she was not the one. Not a fan of her. Juan Pablo doesn’t deserve this worst even bachelor title.
So a bit on Juan Pablo saying that people don't say I love you in real relationships - that's a cultural thing. My parents, for example, have NEVER said I love you to each other, but that doesn't mean they don't. They had an arranged marriage. They care for each other. They will always be each other's number one cheerleader. So I don't think it's fair to bash him for that bc it's truly a western culture thing, and not common in many other cultures.
Um. Not necessarily true. In Hispanic culture, in the SPANISH language, we definitely say “i love you.” There is “te emo,” “te quiero,” etc. I’m not sure which culture you are of.

Many South Asian families in my community have a similar dynamic, where we don't say 'thank you' or 'I love you' because that sentiment is implied through action. I'm well aware that 'te quiero' is commonly used in many Spanish-speaking families, but I, personally, am wary of making sweeping generalizations about all Spanish-speaking cultures, since there is such a wide variety that fall under that umbrella term. I think my use of 'western' in my original comment was inaccurate since it's common in some non-western cultures as well, but I still stand by the idea that there could be a legit reason for JP thinking 'I love you' is not something real couples say.
I can't wrap my head around why this guy should be "most hated"....there was an obvious language and cultural barrier there and there are soooo many other bachelor candidates who are better candidates for that title! :) Seems like he was pretty honest to me and not a bad guy at all
They were desperate to give him that title, but if you watch the show, he is very clearly a loving dad and was just trying to do what was best for his kid.
JP didn’t deserve the title of ‘most hated man in America’ - I didn’t think he was bad at all, he clearly didn’t play by productions rules so they edited him horribly, you could see the switch about halfway through the season. I think Jake P is the worst Bachelor they ever had, and the guy Andi picked was much worse than Juan Pablo.
Yea, I think anybody that knows the game, would share this opinion. ABC was mad because he wouldn't cooperate with them, but at the end of the day it is his journey and he wouldn't do the fake Bachelor moments that other Bachelor's do for the cameras. He talks about it in an interview on Whit and Ry's youtube channel.

I honestly think the language barrier was the biggest problem. He kept saying it's ok, because it's the most he remembers from the english language. But respect and character is universally explicit isn't it?

Juan Pablo was being true to himself & is very particular... It is no secret the producers try to manipulate the contestants. He would not allow that, so they decided to portray him in a negative light...He did not deserve that...While he may be too outspoken in his truths, it causes him some blacklash...Andi, ran because he probably told her in the fantasy suite that he was not picking her so she created the grand exit hoping to become the bachelorette; it worked. They praise Clare for attacking Juan Pablo; they probably encouraged it & edited it in her favor... Why? They never remind you Clare is on her 5th bachelor franchise show; probably her reward for attacking Juan Pablo...
I dont think he is that bad. He said in one of his interviews that he had trouble conveying his feelings in english, its like what he meant in an endearing way turned out to be disrespectful. Im guessing he did not redeem himself like what the BN wanted to because he already lost his trust in the process and the franchise. They crushed him. They made him say things he doesn’t want to say and do. And its not shocking because previous bachelors and bachelorettes have come out saying the same. Check out Whit and Ry’s interview. Hear his real side of the story too. He is a good man, a good father and son and a funny one too.

I agree. I don’t think that he’s this awful man like the bachelor franchise made him out to be. They villainize him because the season sucked, and it was the only way they could save face. He had never watched the bachelor or the bachelorette before, and he had no intention of doing things that he didn’t feel comfortable doing, like proposing to someone that he didn’t know well. The franchise clearly didn’t properly vet him, and they didn’t prepare him for how they expected him to behave on the show. They never should’ve chosen him to be the bachelor. I personally think the only reason they did choose him was because of all of the complaints about lack of diversity. I agree that he made some mistakes, but all of the leads do.The difference with Juan Pablo was that he didn’t care what the bachelor franchise or bachelor nation thought of him, so he felt no need to “redeem” himself to them/us. I love Chris Harrison. But on after the final rose, the way he badgered Juan Pablo was really awful. Talk about not even trying to understand someone-there was no effort on Chris Harrison’s part to truly understand what was going on with Juan Pablo. It seems like the goal was just to solidify the “villain” identity.
I feel like andi wanted him to have a much more sad/upset reaction and he just wanted to get through the conversation as fast as possible, like he wasn’t into her?? I think he didn’t ask anything about her cause he didn’t LIKE HER and he said “that’s perfect” when she said she didn’t love him, cause he didn’t love her!!! Like she just wanted to keep pursuing the convo when he clearly wasn’t feeling it?? Idk maybe there was more to their convo but it seems pretty one sided. Like she wasn’t gonna be f1 so why the dramatic exit?
With Andi, he was embarrassed and felt emasculated by being dumped and called out, so he put on his “it’s okay” persona so it didn’t look like he was hurt. He was not being honest. He’s incredibly emotionally immature, and his toxic masculinity outlook on life made him so uncomfortable to watch. Yikes.
We are just suppose to trust Andi with no footage. lol Ok. It sounds to me she was mad the whole night didn't revolve around her talking about herself. She's a narcissist. You can see both of her relationships failed, so she doesn't come across as credible at all. She was a terrible Bachelorette.
Phill Conklin I don’t really know much about Andi as a person nor do I follow her life at all, but when everyone who publicly dated Juan Pablo says the same things about him being self absorbed, I think you have to admit he is the common denominator. I know women who have tendencies like he does, it’s not just something men do. But in this case, you can’t deny he has old school ways of approaching relationships. Either that or he’s just a total narcissist. Maybe both! If you don’t see a problem with that, we just have different outlook on male and female relationship roles.
@@danaelaina123 I advise you go and watch the full unedited season and you will see plenty of times where he asks about the other women. He was fully interested in the opera singer, and the 2 single moms asking about their lives. When women get in an echo chamber it is very obvious that they will all start to agree with eachother. You can tell this because to the cameras there words are very much in favor of him. So yea, I know what this is. It's women as a collective joining their voices and agreeing with eachother instead of being objective about their experiences.
@@danaelaina123 Also you can watch her season, she was very much had the same issues with the men on her season. Everyone saw how she used Nick Viall for sex on her season and then dumped him promptly after.
this channel called "Whit & Ry" has an interview with him. He explains how he did it for the experience... but the producers wanted for him to do or say things he didn't felt. He also didn't felt the same connection with the girls. Example: saying "I love you" is not the same as "Te Amo" in Spanish. (completely agree)
This is my first time seeing Juan Pablo although I watched the clip with Andi before her Bachelorette show. I am not sure if I understand what he said wrong on the final rose with Claire. Maybe I missed something. I understand her being mad at what happened in the helicopter but she forgave him for that and I didn’t understand that. You were offended yet you forgave him. Even though Andi didn’t really say what happened in the fantasy suite, I’m assuming that he just wanted to be physical with her and not care to get to know her.

It was more than that. More like he was given the honor and the opportunity to be in the position of being the Bachelor and he didn’t even care to really get to know the woman on a real level! As for why Claire was upset it was because he strung her along, she was even ready to leave but he said he saw himself with her so she stayed and then he sent her home

THANK YOU. I’ve been saying this since the first time I saw this season! To me Claire’s speech came off as her being a sore loser. It would have been much more meaningful if she gave that speech BEFORE walking into the final rose ceremony.
Exactly! He was so terrible, he said all these awful things to her, but she was more than ready to accept the ring. Clare may appear self aware and confident, but I think she's emotionally stunted. This new relationship will be on the rocks, too, as soon as reality descends again.

Here's the thing about the helicopter comment...it's not like he said women are only good for hooking up with or that he just wanted to pick a girl who was good in bed but didn't care if they had a connection or not. that's not what he said at all. He told Clare that he doesn't know her yet ...which makes so much sense...have we not heard that by the end of the season the winner and the lead have only spent like 48 hours together? And this wasn't even at the end yet, so they've probably only spent 24 hours together total. Yeah, no shit that you don't know who the other person is yet. All that JP knew at that point was that he and Clare had a good physical relationship. And I'm sorry, if you're someone who is or would be offended by someone liking your physical chemistry but unsure if they like or love you, then you should not open up the door to a physical relationship until you have that information!!
Totally agree. Juan Pablo actually did an interview earlier this year on Whit and Ry's youtube channel which is the only interview he has done, and hearing him talk about how ABC really went all in to make him the villain it made me realize how they try to manipulate the audience in taking a certain perspective.
I remember watching this season and I really wanted to like Clare because I was in the middle of losing my dad to brain cancer too, but I honestly couldn't stand her by the end of that season and she's just annoyed me ever since. I'm kinda glad that we'll hopefully get through her part of the season quickly and then on to Tayshia!!
I've never seen Juan Pablo's season. But from watching the review any emotionally intelligent person could see that he was not that bad... Not sure what kind of reaction Andi wanted from him, he said, "it's ok" because she was trying to clown him on national TV and maybe she was not his top 2 anyway. I don't get what the hype is over Claire, she was going to accept a PROPOSAL... but because he didn't choose her... now she wants to rehash the past 🙄. She should/could have left after the helo incident... so don't blame JP.
Clearly he was just on the show for the fun and lead everyone on especially Nikki. The others had a right to be frustrated by this though sometimes a tad dramatic, Andi did a disservice to herself by focusing on the 'it's okay' response when what she was really bothered by was his obvious disinterest, but keeping her there anyway. Seems careless. I don't think he deserves all the hate especially when the show has been pushing for audiences to be kinder, that's their responsibilty too. You can build women up without tearing men down. Most of the bluntness can be explained by language barrier but all in all, he was never vulnerable and open and that made for a disatisying season when the most emotion he showed on screen was with Sharleen if anything. Final takeaway....he definitely was not there for the right reasons.
I feel a little disgusted to watch the episode today. Just to show Claire as this tough super woman they pulled all bachelorettes to just bash him up. There were some awful bachelors and bachelorette's on this show. Juan Pablo was not the greatest but he had culture barrier (men probably act different culturally than in US), language barrier. I struggled at work when I first came here understanding the jokes and other stuff. It was really really frustrating to see him being bashed by all woman like that. Yet no bachelorette had guts to talk about some of the women who have verbal diarrhea and comment on every ones relationships . Really annoyed . I feel he is still being treated very very bad on national television so many years after his season. Andi pushes him and ridiculed him on the fact that he said "its okay" though he kept saying he is ESL. Claire would have accepted the proposal if he proposed... the fact that he chose to let her go and then she was disgusted by him was always very strange to me. Again he is not the best bachelor but there were others much worse and still got away.

I think ABC considers him the worst because he wouldn’t play their game (i.e. he was so over things by the end that his AFR was terrible). They like their leads to play by the Bachelor rules. But I agree - he was by no means THE WORST...
I'm so over Clare and her season hasn't even started. Just having to revisit Juan Pablo's season has completely turned me off from her again. She really needs to get over herself. So I’m learning Spanish, and I will say that I’ve learned some beautiful romantic phrases in Spanish that translate into English horribly. So it’s hard for a Spanish speaker to find new ways to say things. There’s one where in English you’re basically calling the girl a frog but in Spanish it’s pretty. ...yeah. So maybe that was his problem.

My opinion on the Juan Pablo/Andi situation has always been that she couldn’t handle that he just wasn’t into her. And when she initiated this conversation with him after the fantasy suite, he probably felt relieved that she was breaking up with him so that he didn’t have to do it. And her ego was hurt when he didn’t try to convince her to stay. :-)

I love Lauren, but there was a clear language barrier. I'm venezuelan, so aside from spanish I also -culturally- understand what he means. Idk it just didn't feel right everytime she mentioned something "didn't make sense" when it was clearly a language thing, not necessarily that he was acting disrespectfully.

I just meant that sometimes lauren would say something didn't make sense but a lot of the times she said that were moments where there was a language barrier. Like "it's ok" in venezuela culture is "está bien" which is saying "I understand" not necessarily "it's ok". It can also mean that but in a lot of the scenes wasn't the case. But for sure, he's a toxic, narcissistic psycho.
This roses & rose was 100x better than Juan Pablo's actual season. I can't believe I wasted hrs of my life watching his season. I've only watched a few seasons but Ali's was my fav. I love how Lauren say byeeee & mmmm hmmm! Man, I wish I was that funny!
Honestly I don’t understand Clare’s reaction at all. She made it all about her, forgetting that she went onto the show knowing she could have been sent home at any point. He had to make a choice between Nikki and her, and he chose Nikki. Clare acted so dramatic like he did something terrible to her and she was this courageous woman who “stood up for herself”. When in reality he just made a choice that he felt was right and he had to send one of them home like it or not.
tbh it seems JP was very honest and thorough throughout the show, he knew what he wanted and he didn't want Andi lol. He eventually picked Nikki prob bc he felt the need to pick someone but he clearly didn't love her at that point so he didn't want to say it. that's fair, like would you rather he lie in front of the camera and say he loves her despite he doesn't? He knew what he wanted he just didn't find what he wanted on the show. Peter is the opposite yet everyone loved him and gave him so much passes lmao

Episode 2 of Clare's season just aired. Clare's speech to Juan Pablo is a bit less impressive and meaningful now that she's being ridiculous and attacking her men.
That was my take. He just wasn’t into her, and that hurt her ego, so she lashed out. Her communication style in that post fantasy suite conversation was very lawyer-like, and as he said several times, English is his second language and he was doing his best to express himself. But it seemed pretty clear that she didn’t care what he had to say-her goal was to interrogate him, and win the argument.
Juan was not the Juan for none of those girls. He was a walking red flag and the girls ignored them. It would have been good if all the girls walked off his season 😂
Am I the only one who noticed that Clare was fake crying in the scenes of her post breakup? The dialogue when she got dumped and then the crying scenes just seemed so overly dramatised and rehearsed to me...
I think, he was not good in taking orders/rules what a TV show is bringing with it. And his reaction was shutting down himself from everywhere else, and smiling creepily. I am not saying it was ok to do it this way though.
I think Andi had some valid concerns for sure, but I don’t think Juan Pablo was really into her. That being said, I don’t think he was into any of the women. He’s seems like a player. Made for good tv though and that’s why we’re all here 😂🥰!

Am I the only one that really dislikes Clare? It's wierd to me how they continue try to paint this girl as a functional human being. Watch Pablos whole season unedited (it's on Hulu), she is a terrible person. Watch both of her appearances on Bachelor in Paradise, she also looks like an immature child. And finally watch her Bachelor Winter Games, where she breaks that nice German guys heart. By the way she couldn't make it work with Benoit who is a super nice guy. To me ABC just wanted an old lady to be the Bachelorette for the sake of representation, but there are so many more women whose age matches their maturity. Clare is a toxic human being, but don't trust me, watch her previous seasons yourself from an objective standpoint.

JP didn’t deserve the title of ‘most hated man in America’ - I didn’t think he was bad at all, he clearly didn’t play by productions rules so they edited him horribly, you could see the switch about halfway through the season.

Yea, I think anybody that knows the game, would share this opinion. ABC was mad because he wouldn't cooperate with them, but at the end of the day it is his journey and he wouldn't do the fake Bachelor moments that other Bachelor's do for the cameras. Juan Pablo was being true to himself & is very particular... It is no secret the producers try to manipulate the contestants. He would not allow that, so they decided to portray him in a negative light...He did not deserve that...While he may be too outspoken in his truths, it causes him some blacklash...Andi, ran because he probably told her in the fantasy suite that he was not picking her so she created the grand exit hoping to become the bachelorette; it worked. They praise Clare for attacking Juan Pablo; they probably encouraged it & edited it in her favor... Why? They never remind you Clare is on her 5th bachelor franchise show; probably her reward for attacking Juan Pablo...

I agree. I don’t think that he’s this awful man like the bachelor franchise made him out to be. They villainize him because the season sucked, and it was the only way they could save face. He had never watched the bachelor or the bachelorette before, and he had no intention of doing things that he didn’t feel comfortable doing, like proposing to someone that he didn’t know well. The franchise clearly didn’t properly vet him, and they didn’t prepare him for how they expected him to behave on the show. They never should’ve chosen him to be the bachelor. I personally think the only reason they did choose him was because of all of the complaints about lack of diversity. I agree that he made some mistakes, but all of the leads do.The difference with Juan Pablo was that he didn’t care what the bachelor franchise or bachelor nation thought of him, so he felt no need to “redeem” himself to them/us. I love Chris Harrison. But on after the final rose, the way he badgered Juan Pablo was really awful. Talk about not even trying to understand someone-there was no effort on Chris Harrison’s part to truly understand what was going on with Juan Pablo. It seems like the goal was just to solidify the “villain” identity.

I feel like andi wanted him to have a much more sad/upset reaction and he just wanted to get through the conversation as fast as possible, like he wasn’t into her?? I think he didn’t ask anything about her cause he didn’t LIKE HER and he said “that’s perfect” when she said she didn’t love him, cause he didn’t love her!!! Like she just wanted to keep pursuing the convo when he clearly wasn’t feeling it?? Idk maybe there was more to their convo but it seems pretty one sided. Like she wasn’t gonna be f1 so why the dramatic exit?
With Andi, he was embarrassed and felt emasculated by being dumped and called out, so he put on his “it’s okay” persona so it didn’t look like he was hurt. He was not being honest. He’s incredibly emotionally immature, and his toxic masculinity outlook on life made him so uncomfortable to watch. Yikes.

Phill Conklin I don’t really know much about Andi as a person nor do I follow her life at all, but when everyone who publicly dated Juan Pablo says the same things about him being self absorbed, I think you have to admit he is the common denominator. I know women who have tendencies like he does, it’s not just something men do. But in this case, you can’t deny he has old school ways of approaching relationships. Either that or he’s just a total narcissist. Maybe both! If you don’t see a problem with that, we just have different outlook on male and female relationship roles.

He was fully interested in the opera singer, and the 2 single moms asking about their lives. When women get in an echo chamber it is very obvious that they will all start to agree with eachother. You can tell this because to the cameras there words are very much in favor of him. So yea, I know what this is. It's women as a collective joining their voices and agreeing with eachother instead of being objective about their experiences.

this channel called "Whit & Ry" has an interview with him. He explains how he did it for the experience... but the producers wanted for him to do or say things he didn't felt.
He also didn't felt the same connection with the girls. Example: saying "I love you" is not the same as "Te Amo" in Spanish. (completely agree)

This is my first time seeing Juan Pablo although I watched the clip with Andi before her Bachelorette show. I am not sure if I understand what he said wrong on the final rose with Claire. Maybe I missed something. I understand her being mad at what happened in the helicopter but she forgave him for that and I didn’t understand that. You were offended yet you forgave him. Even though Andi didn’t really say what happened in the fantasy suite, I’m assuming that he just wanted to be physical with her and not care to get to know her.

THANK YOU. I’ve been saying this since the first time I saw this season! To me Claire’s speech came off as her being a sore loser. It would have been much more meaningful if she gave that speech BEFORE walking into the final rose ceremony.
Exactly! He was so terrible, he said all these awful things to her, but she was more than ready to accept the ring. Clare may appear self aware and confident, but I think she's emotionally stunted. This new relationship will be on the rocks, too, as soon as reality descends again.

Here's the thing about the helicopter comment...it's not like he said women are only good for hooking up with or that he just wanted to pick a girl who was good in bed but didn't care if they had a connection or not. that's not what he said at all. He told Clare that he doesn't know her yet ...which makes so much sense...have we not heard that by the end of the season the winner and the lead have only spent like 48 hours together? And this wasn't even at the end yet, so they've probably only spent 24 hours together total. Yeah, no shit that you don't know who the other person is yet. All that JP knew at that point was that he and Clare had a good physical relationship. And I'm sorry, if you're someone who is or would be offended by someone liking your physical chemistry but unsure if they like or love you, then you should not open up the door to a physical relationship until you have that information!!

Juan Pablo actually did an interview earlier this year on Whit and Ry's youtube channel which is the only interview he has done, and hearing him talk about how ABC really went all in to make him the villain it made me realize how they try to manipulate the audience in taking a certain perspective.
I remember watching this season and I really wanted to like Clare because I was in the middle of losing my dad to brain cancer too, but I honestly couldn't stand her by the end of that season and she's just annoyed me ever since. I'm kinda glad that we'll hopefully get through her part of the season quickly and then on to Tayshia!!

I've never seen Juan Pablo's season. But from watching the review any emotionally intelligent person could see that he was not that bad... Not sure what kind of reaction Andi wanted from him, he said, "it's ok" because she was trying to clown him on national TV and maybe she was not his top 2 anyway.

Clearly he was just on the show for the fun and lead everyone on especially Nikki. The others had a right to be frustrated by this though sometimes a tad dramatic, Andi did a disservice to herself by focusing on the 'it's okay' response when what she was really bothered by was his obvious disinterest, but keeping her there anyway. Seems careless. I don't think he deserves all the hate especially when the show has been pushing for audiences to be kinder, that's their responsibilty too. You can build women up without tearing men down. Most of the bluntness can be explained by language barrier but all in all, he was never vulnerable and open and that made for a disatisying season when the most emotion he showed on screen was with Sharleen if anything. Final takeaway....he definitely was not there for the right reasons.

I feel a little disgusted to watch the episode today. Just to show Claire as this tough super woman they pulled all bachelorettes to just bash him up. There were some awful bachelors and bachelorette's on this show. Juan Pablo was not the greatest but he had culture barrier (men probably act different culturally than in US), language barrier. I struggled at work when I first came here understanding the jokes and other stuff. It was really really frustrating to see him being bashed by all woman like that. Yet no bachelorette had guts to talk about some of the women who have verbal diarrhea and comment on every ones relationships . Really annoyed . I feel he is still being treated very very bad on national television so many years after his season. Andi pushes him and ridiculed him on the fact that he said "its okay" though he kept saying he is ESL. Claire would have accepted the proposal if he proposed... the fact that he chose to let her go and then she was disgusted by him was always very strange to me. Again he is not the best bachelor but there were others much worse and still got away.

My opinion on the Juan Pablo/Andi situation has always been that she couldn’t handle that he just wasn’t into her. And when she initiated this conversation with him after the fantasy suite, he probably felt relieved that she was breaking up with him so that he didn’t have to do it. And her ego was hurt when he didn’t try to convince her to stay. :-)

Honestly I don’t understand Clare’s reaction at all. She made it all about her, forgetting that she went onto the show knowing she could have been sent home at any point. He had to make a choice between Nikki and her, and he chose Nikki. Clare acted so dramatic like he did something terrible to her and she was this courageous woman who “stood up for herself”. When in reality he just made a choice that he felt was right and he had to send one of them home like it or not.

Episode 2 of Clare's season just aired. Clare's speech to Juan Pablo is a bit less impressive and meaningful now that she's being ridiculous and attacking her men.
Maybe he didn’t ask Andi questions or get to know her because he really wasn’t that into her.
That was my take. He just wasn’t into her, and that hurt her ego, so she lashed out. Her communication style in that post fantasy suite conversation was very lawyer-like, and as he said several times, English is his second language and he was doing his best to express himself. But it seemed pretty clear that she didn’t care what he had to say-her goal was to interrogate him, and win the argument.

I think, he was not good in taking orders/rules what a TV show is bringing with it. And his reaction was shutting down himself from everywhere else, and smiling creepily. I am not saying it was ok to do it this way though.

Watch Pablos whole season unedited (it's on Hulu), she is a terrible person. Watch both of her appearances on Bachelor in Paradise, she also looks like an immature child. And finally watch her Bachelor Winter Games, where she breaks that nice German guys heart. By the way she couldn't make it work with Benoit who is a super nice guy. To me ABC just wanted an old lady to be the Bachelorette for the sake of representation, but there are so many more women whose age matches their maturity. Clare is a toxic human being, but don't trust me, watch her previous seasons yourself from an objective standpoint.
