    Thanks for bringing attention to some great designs, although I think it should be pointed out that without certain precautions 3d prints aren’t recommended for direct food contact. Without properly sealing the surface bacteria can accumulate between the layers from rotting food particles and cause sickness or worse. PLA is especially susceptible since you would essentially destroy the print when washing it in temperatures high enough to effectively prevent that growth. Not knocking anything here or your work, just pointing out something not everyone may know. I sure didn’t when I first started out.

      Also the most of the materials are not food safe and can leech chemicals. As well as the extruder can leave behind undesirable metals or residue from older filaments.

    • @RonaldAlubalu
      @RonaldAlubalu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any tips what to use or do if you want to print things to use with food? Cookie shapes for example?

    • @AcceptTheNull
      @AcceptTheNull 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@RonaldAlubalu there is a type of filament that is marked as food safe, however then the next issue is your extruder. It has residue from previous builds, if used. Also some tips have harmful metals.
      That all said a cookie cutter is only touching the dough for a second. I can't say nothing will transfer, but a food safe filament on a clean extruder and a safe tip and then cleaning the cutter with a good soap after would probably make it safe enough for a cookie cutter.

      pla is generally not toxic, but definitely wouldnt use with any food contact applications for sanitary reasons. cookie cutters are okay in my opinion since theyre going to be baked anyway, but id probably still consider it single-use

  • @jabba334
    @jabba334 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As @kenwaters3807 pointed out, while PLA plastic is considered safe for food contact, 3D prints are inherently not. There are gaps between every layer of the print that cannot be fully cleaned out and you just can't get the print hot enough without melting it to sanitize it. Any kitchen gadgets can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria feeding off the rotting food left in the layer gaps.
    Of course there's nothing wrong with using a 3D print as a prototype for demonstrating a potential gadget that might later be made out of more kitchen safe materials. 👍

    Really nice video to watch, although most of those items did fix a problem that does not exist for me. I crack my eggs and juice my lemons faster and without having anything to clean just with my hands but I enjoy those videos and design inspiration I get from prints that someone else designed, especially when I can see the print in action.

    The bag clip is really a good idea and very useful, and I thankyou for making this video but it would have been better if you had included more info, like the nut and bolt sizes needed. Also I cannot figure out what the printable screw(wire nut looking thing) is for, and I noticed its not included in the bag clip in the video. Thanks in advance.

    • @agentbarron3945
      @agentbarron3945 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      most of the time whats not food safe with 3d printing and these plastics is actually the layers, food gets trapped in there and it cant be cleaned out or else itd melt the plastic from the temps, also obviously you dont want to make anything like a spatula that would just melt. the finger guard isnt food safe because its too easy to shave off plastic into the food, and cant really be made from plastic at all it would have to be made from metal to be food safe. things like that fruit bowl are perfectly safe, or at least should be
