Great video Bob, thanks for the wonderful Sonic/Mario imagery! I'm similarly conflicted about the Pocket Micro -- it's so premium in many ways, and has more than its share of jank too
It’s truly a crime what’s happening with your channel right now, I’m very sorry and hope that everything blows over. You don’t deserve the extra stress. The effort and love that you put into this community is monumental and has had an extremely positive impact on me personally. These retro games are a critical component to the lore of my childhood. The fact that I have ways to preserve them and so many wonderful guides made to help me not waste so much money is really great. I appreciate all of your hard work! You’re the man Russ!
if nintendo DMCA's this video, then nintendo canonically confirms that sonic and mario make out during the afterhours of mario and sonic at the olympic games series.
RP4+ isn't competing with this. So stupid when people say things like this. If someone is looking at this, they clearly want something this small. And RP4+ doesn't check that box. If they want something as big as the RP4+, then they were already going to get it. Your comment is stupid.
$200+ for this thing is actual highway robbery. Can’t see why anyone would settle for this over an RG35XXSP or even one of those hardware emulation devices
Not sad at all, worrying about game preservation for a current console is selfish and obviously driven by piracy -even if they don't recognize it as such. I hope Nintendo keeps its strong hand with people promoting piracy and current console emulators

@@user-to1su2iy4d Nintentards are quite numerous in numbers, especially in Japan where they see it as a point of national pride to defend Nintendo against any and all critique and support every single one of their decisions.
@user-to1su2iy4d the best for actual gaming, yes. Affordable, huge library of some of the best games ever made, best exclusive library, and being able to play however it works best for you. As a company, no, absolutely not all the best decisions. But I would still rather buy a game that is complete, unique, and offline, rather than games that cost $100+ for early access, barely function, require the internet for single player content, digital only, etc
The old RG351P is still the BEST for GBA. It has enough buttons, has a great Dpad and the joysticks don't stick out and this way is a great pocketable device.
Bob's preferences are so weird to me, like a lot of people do have the issues with framerate like he does but there's multiple things like the keyboard controller for Mario or having issues with pocketing devices that is should be easily pocketable with normal sized pockets. I want to say the pocket complaint came up years ago on some other device too which I found funny and stood out to me.
This is the primary reason why, despite growing up with Nintendo consoles, the last dime I ever spent with this company or ever will spend was during the GameCube era.
The KT-R1 (a failed retro handheld) also had a 3:2 screen. It was definitely bigger than 3.5", and was advertised as a good way to perfectly consume GBA content while not having huge black bars for either 4:3 or 16:9 content.
the ayaneo pocket micro has too many caveats for it's price, especially when the miyoo mini is like 30 bucks, or honestly the 35xx series. I love my 35xxh so much.

Ok the fanfic jumpscares might be my new absolute favourite way of anti-nintendo activism hahaha. Oh, you like your IP? Watch this! I can make Mario f***!
I 100% bought this for GBA, to me this is the GBA equivalent of the Analogue Pocket for GBC, which I also love. I have a GB Micro, but I never really play it because it's rare and I don't want to accidentally drop and break it, very excited for mine to arrive!
If they had doubled down on the GBA use case - not bothered with the analogue sticks or made them protrude less, and not screwed up the audio, this would have become an absolute cult classic. The analogue sticks really put me off for some reason. Feels so unnecessary, particularly the right stick.
Wish you mentioned the Powkiddy V10. To me it is the perfect budget GBA retro console. $40 (I got mine for $30 on sale), pretty comfortable, if chunky, and perfect 2x 3:2 GBA scale. The AYANEO Pocket Micro looks cool as heck, but $250 is a little bit too much for me (I play mostly GBA all the time). Thanks for the video!
I always make sure to watch your ads, but I usually check out once you mention the price. These handhelds need to be getting cheaper instead of recycling the same thing. Dreamcast and N64 should be around $100 with basic features. And still function properly.
A Porsche with a Pinto engine looks premium but under the hood, it's still a Pinto for performance, no matter what the comfort level is. At Punto prices, yes but otherwise, there are better and just as shiny options that offer performance, value and even the premium feel.
Some times reviewers confuse the needs of a reviewer with the needs of an average buyer. For a reviewer endless options with tiny variations are boring. For a buyer, many options is a good thing. You may want a headphone jack or a screen that is bigger because you hate small screens or a screen that just a bit smaller so that you can fit the device in your pocket etc etc.
This channel has made sponsor commercials an absolute art. Wulff should do seminars specifically for TH-cam - there is a specific audience and tone and most content creators miss the mark with their sponsorship.
Looks great, would love to try it out, but will never get it because I'm novice in emulation space and have already gotten lost just listening to what needs to be set-up from the start. Will look for something more beginner-friendly
That weird you can’t get headphone sound without it turning the controller off. I have seen a couple other review where they say it was fine. It’s that’s true that is a huge oversight from Ayaneo!
I would love to watch that 3ds circle pad mod. Always wondered if anyone has ever tried to replace a joy con thumbstick for a circle pad, making a thinner switch (losing the thumbstick click tho).
Two hundred and something dollars for an android emulator that can’t play ps2? I’m not sure I see the appeal in this device. I get how the feel and build quality of a “premium device” increases its price compared to cheaper competitors, but its speakers are awful, there’s no headphone jack, and everything Wulff said about the buttons and button placement doesn’t really sound “premium”. It’s got a lot of storage and a lot of ram, but why would I need that much ram if I’m playing gba games? It has a higher resolution screen than other android emulators on the market, that’s cool, but again, gba games. It’s pixel art, and a super tiny screen, I’m not confident I’d see a massive increase in visual quality compared to a 480p screen. The reason I’d get a gameboy pocket-sized device like this would be for its pocketability, but with its higher cost and protruding thumbsticks I wouldn’t really want to keep it in my pocket. Also the software just seems janky. The only real benefit I see is its 3:2 screen, which is a pretty good middle ground size more handhelds should adapt if it’s expected to play 4:3 and widescreen games. I don’t see how this product could be considered favorable compared to similar products that are $100 cheaper, but even if this was in the same price level as its competitors it still looks like an inferior product. There’s a thousand different Anbernic products to fill your niche, and Retroid Pocket and so many other retro handheld manufacturers also have good well-rounded options. I can see the appeal, but I don’t see anything worthy of appraisal.
I think there is more of a love of the tinkering for the emulation and hardware of a lot of this stuff than the actual games being played. Like people love getting 20 more frames in a switch game, or the next rom hack that they've added to a Pokémon game, or seeing what the next handheld (like this) can do. That's what the real offence is here with a lot of this stuff being taken down. Even if all the games were available on switch, or on steam, people would still want to emulate. The hobby isn't as much for playing games, it's emulating, and because of that it basically can't ever be solved.
An unpopular opinion, but in some respects I understand Nintendo's approach. Nintendo has to assert itself against Sony and above all Microsoft, two extremely financially strong companies, compared to which Nintendo seems like a family business.
