Well that's cool and all but at this point I have given up. They always promise a lot and deliver disappointingly little. No reason to believe them this time.
With rumours rife that starcitizen is finally going to launch but will be feature incomplete in 2025 it would be nice if its main competition was a reinvigorated Elite dangerous.
I'm steadily advancing in a dense overlapping shield column careful to not expose any gaps in my optimism. Lies, false hope and abject ineptitude rain from the skies upon us.
See, I’m setting the bar soooo low, that no matter what happens, I’ll not be disappointed yet again. I truely hope I’m proven completely wrong and the updates make me the fool. I love this game so much and want it to be the come back we all want!
so frontier realized their boat was sinking and finally decided to starting using a bucket to bail out the water. Extremely Cautious on these updates, nice to see they are finally making changes to a game I spent a lot of time in, but just not sure its going to be enough to get me back into it.
@@dirkniedfeld7411 Sounds like you may be wrong, these sound like development. And if they are actually making powerplay meaningful and engaging that will be a fix many in the community have been demanding almost since day 1... That might just put enough life into the universe to get lots of lapsed players back, and actually make the deep and rather good bits of the background sim and lore get dragged into a meainingful part of the game that all players will be somewhat interested in - a system has just declared for an imperial faction, so imperial slave demand skyrockets etc..
@@dirkniedfeld7411 FACTS This GAME has the Potential to Be one THE GREATEST GAMES OUT THERE BUT THEY DIDN'T INVEST THE EARNED MONEY TO CREATE MORE CONTENT LIKE ADDING MORE SHIPS CREATING YOUR OWN PLANET WITH BASE FROM SCRATCH... 500 NEW NEBULAS WITH DIFFERENT COLORS 100 DIFFERENT ALIEN TYPES .... LANDSCAPES WITH ALIEN JUNGLES WHERE U CAN WALK WITH A SPACE SUIT N A GUN WITH DIFFERENT ALIEN ANIMALS ROAMING AROUND LIKE AVATAR .... .... IT TRULY HAS THE POTENTIAL BUT THEY AREN'T DOING ANYTHING.... THEY JUST LEFT N THE GAME DIED SLOWLY...
I hope they leave Thargoids in some systems. I've stopped playing because I didn't have enough time to engineer my ships and fight goids, but if the new updates are good enough, I'd love to be able to fight some
yes it should become no longer a threat, but still something that is present, and that goes for all aspects. this is coming from someone who hasnt had the chance to touch this content... i would be so disappointed if they just threw it all away
In Elite'84 you could defeat Thargoid destroyer with stock pulse laser (at least in Speccy port). In ED you need to grind, outfit and master to fight Targoids. However, EDH/Legacy lacks of real threat from Targoids (not playing EDO/Live, so can't say anything about current state). Also, in Elite I, you had to fight pirates, and it sometimes was annoying. In ED you could evade them, instead, and fly with no weapon. That also good and not quite good thing in the same time.
Wild that I was just considering earlier today, for the first time in years, about reinstalling the game and just flying around a bit. I lost interest completely when odyssey came out, but I really do miss flying around the black in VR. Just funny that only a few hours later I hear about the biggest update in years (probably since almost last time I played).
The largest downfall for Elite in my opinion,, IS the abiity to walk on to your ship, Walk around the ship and take off, as well as landing and walking off your ship. With a game like Star Citizen where all this is possible , Frontier has to try to step up to this level off immersion. I love the game, but the missing element sways me to Star Citizen more.
Not gonna lie , after over 3000 hours in I give up on Elite after Odyssey launch. I loved the game , sadly i felt that frontier just didn’t get the massive potential their own game had. I hope this will be a new dawn and I’m pumped with this news o7
I liked Oddysey. But tbh - dissapointed that atmospheric is basically non-atmospheric with some skybox. I would love to see normal atmospheric planets/surfaces
I'm the same, I went through the Odyssey beta and left soon after it launched. FDEV has done a lot since then to improve the game engine, but there seems to be so many potential features they didn't consider. In addition, there were just so many things I started to hate about ED. I hated the core mining minigame, it was dumb that you had no control over the detonation timing. I hate that all the walkable stations looked exactly alike. I wanted nothing to do with the Thargoids. I wanted the org that bought your system scans to offer deep space scanning missions that could lead to missions to discover something, anything. I thought extensive life on airless planets was unscientific, along with thick dust clouds and lightning in space. I wanted my Dolphin to be used for repeatable shuttle missions like a bus serivice. Oh, and why are humans in the future such terrible people? I eventually switched over to X4: Foundations, in many ways a better game but still not without issues. I would love a game that combines some of the best of both games in one. Maybe Elite: Foundations.
I'm just happy to hear that they actually care about the game and are willing to make changes to give players what they've been asking for. Elite deserves so much better than what it's gotten these last few years.
New ships are just a nice to have that will keep people busy for a few weeks. What we need is a deeper game, new gameplays, new environnements and more immersion.
If Elite had way more planet variety, way more mission and fps mission variety and had ship interiors with boarding missions, it wouldn't just be one of the best space games ever, it could be one of the very best games ever made.
Rested on their laurels massively. I stopped playing ages ago, not enough ships, not enough to do on planets, engineering is grindy, the fact there was only 1 SRV in the game for about 6 years was fucking stupid. I used to really love this game, man.
But you just described SC. FDEV can rot in hell, any mention of ED flaws or suggestions how to improve the game is an instant ban on their forums and on Stream. They employ 24/7 moderators for instant bans. Notice on Steam it's always the same posters, with a few newbie every now and then
@@Kestrel1971You’re making a huge assumption. In star citizen it provides a lot to the experience saying it wouldn’t be able to add anything to Elite is just disingenuous.
@@Kestrel1971 considering the itemization in odyssey, I don’t think that’s true. I appreciate the thought, but I’d argue the opposite is actually true. Especially when you have 10+ minutes of in-game travel time. The last thing you want in game development is integral pieces of the simulation forcing players to have nothing to do during “down time”. Inventory management, resource management, etc. can all be looped into navigable ship interiors i.e: encouraging player interaction during long down time (travel time in system)
I usually like to watch you and Yamiks for Elite. Your hopeful optimism and Yamiks more pessimistic approach usually help to get a good picture of what is going on. We will see what will happen at the end.
I loved my vr experience in elite, absolutely unmatched. My first thargoid experience was in vr, my lord, it felt like a life changing moment. I was so excited. That being said, after a while, the vr started to alter my perception of my limbs outside of the game because it does not register your arms moving within the headset. Outside of the game, it would feel like my arms were detached from my body, and it felt terrible. I have an oculus rift-s and quest 2, collecting dust because of tgis. VR is great, but it can have some harmful side effects of your not careful.
Elite Dangerous in VR with HCS Voice Packs was the best space simulation ever made. I loved playing it. I started playing in 2016 when they released power play. That aspect of the game had so much potential but FDev f'ed that up so badly and only a small percentage of the player-base got into it. Their inability to fully incorporate it into the game was the first sign of their incompetence. Despite that, I totally loved exploration and the BGS. Sadly, like many others, they lost me with Odyssey.
Heh, the only reason I'm looking to upgrade my gfx card this year is that I have to jump through too many hoops to get decent frames on my current one when playing Elite in VR, and I can't use my virtual second monitors when I optimise like that. Otherwise it would still be perfectly adequate for everything I do.
It's great for space exploration, but pretty insane. The furthest I've gone is Colonia and Sag A (core), but I visited many of the Nebulae on the way, also basically every one around the bubble. Including crab and bubble nebula. There's a planetary Nebula not very far from Colonia with a massive black hole at it's center. There are maniacs who have gone to Beagle Point. More than once.
I’m one of those maniacs whose been to Beagle more than once. I truly do love the views and aesthetics of the game and it’s the main reason I play. The trip to Beagle Point really isn’t worth it unless you wanna be “in the club” truthfully.
@@PowerofRock24 It's a whole lot of work for something really arbitrary. I love exploring and would probably do it again, but I don't think it's really reasonable to recommend it to anyone else on my part.
Grind or exploring empty worlds or repetitive tasks. Does new ship change anything? No. Maybe a new powerplay model does make a change but the bubble remains too much static.
- Crew & Crewmanagement - Ship Interior - Quest lines with voice acting - Fleshed out ecosystems This is what we need If ED doesn't come up with actual good stuff and not just the millionth text to expodump some thargoid battle, i'm never gona install it again. As of now, i've stopped playing years ago and so did many others and I hope Frontier actually works this time instead of enjoying their Arx Money
You mean the old roadmap, when Elite was in Alpha? Yeah, they already said they wont do that. They were adamant in the prelaunch Odyssey streams that, “ship interiors have no gameplay value”. In other words, the engine cant handle it or too lazy to do it.
I’m brand new to elite (I started playing 5 days ago) and I’m shocked this game isn’t more popular. I’ve never played something that’s given a bigger sense of wonder before
I'd like to see exploration expanded ... something like, (after adding a bit more procedural life to some planets), if you scan a planet and find it contains life, you can then go to the surface, collect genetic samples and sell them raw, or have a module on your ship that would act a s genetic sequencer that you could sequence the DNA, and sell that data for more money than just the genetic samples.
A powerplay update could be interesting. New ships also sound nice. I'll believe it once it's live though. Frontier has gone radio silent about supposedly upcoming stuff too many times to get my hopes up.
The storyline involving leaders changing is related to this. Current powerplay doesn't allow for the Federation president to change, for example. You needed an overhaul to allow for that possibility, which is now a reality. In fact, I was wondering about this ever since Hudson and Mahon were reelected in an exceptional way in the lore. And now that the Federal presidency was about to actually change hands, I was wondering how they'd implement it.
I'm worried this is too little, too late. This is the kind of update Elite needed five years ago. I've felt zero desire to play it since Odyssey dropped and they gave up on proper VR support.
I think they should add a more involved RPG component to the game. A game within the game where you could work on your character as well. I could see maybe modder involvement with the creation of settlements and quests, adventuring in and around settlements ala Skyrim.
@@vladcrow4225I totally disagree. I think it is better for you to go and stay at Star Citizen and wait for 20 more years for the game to get somewhere.
This looks really amazing and finally a reason to upgrade my HOTAS, I run this game only in VR mode and with my Quest 3 it has been butter smooth and simply mind blowing, I am so happy this game is getting the love it deserves.
Ive been really itching to get back into my krait phantom for a hot minute. This gives me motivation to do so! Hell yeah about time we get some additional ships!
2024 is the 40th Anniversary for Elite, so makes sense to give it some love. Looking forward to the new content, been playing Elite on one platform or another since 1984.
Thanks for this Ant. To me this is very positive (far more so than I expected) I think I can even feel a pulse :). Lets hope they deliver on these promises and who knows even reconnecting with the players like they were in the beginning, back then and even up to Frontier'17 there was a definite camaraderie between us. (Anybody remember the Community organised Pizza delivery to Fdevs office while we waited on an update being pushed?) . Im not 100% sure the updates on offer are enough to bring me back to the game but who knows.
You know despite Elite not really living up to it's true potential etc it still is a unique game with in my opinion the best space flight model with the best ships and the Audio sounds for ships etc is the best there is out there!. The Galaxy is massive and it really does feel you are traversing the Milky Way. So despite the crap we give it, (which I have done myself loads of times), it has it's own place in this genre that I still come back to no matter how long I take a break for.
I can't believe it! I would have put money on it that it was going to be put on the shelf by Frontier. I'm SO glad that I've been provided wrong and that they finally seem to be getting their act together and doing something with Elite which is and has the potential to be an incredible game. I, for one, don't understand why Frontier doesn't do what Bethesda has done and open it up to the player community to create mods, ships, etc.
Elite Dangerous will always be something to return to as long as they don't throw away their attention to quality. Even now it's trending to point out how low quality modern games are in comparison to the masterpieces that we've had in the past. As long as FDev doesn't give up on quality they will have a dedicated player base for the rest of time.
@@underleft Then what's gaming in general? It's a rhetorical question you're asking. You work your ass off engineering all these ships for what? You can't show them off. Pvp? Ok... (a joke). In power play you can actually use your fleet to execute missions. It's just another thing to do man...
I have been trying to get into ED recently and I found it a bit hard, almost overwhelming. Yes, you get taught the basics but the game has so much content and story by now, that it feels like getting thrown in the water and having to figure out how to swim on your own. I wish they would also tackle that in one of the updates, to lower the barrier of entry.
It can be a complex game for sure... probably the most involved and complex that I have ever played. When I first started years ago, honestly there was a point where, I felt like giving up, because it just seemed too overwhelming. My message is don't give up... I would try and focus on one part of the game, something you think you might enjoy and focus on that, you don't have to become a master at everything right away. Also there are alot of tutorials from creators that explain different aspects of gameplay. o7 Commander.
Elite Dangerous needs a bit less unrealistic parts if it wants to people to like the game. Build bases/outposts, creatures and stuff. Yeah, it breaks immersiveness, but that would make the game much more interesting. It will be like realistic version of No Man's Sky.
@@moon9light sure sure, totally get that, BUT this is a “new” python, I could dream! I’ll even settle for off center but not feeling off center, you know what I mean?
This video gave rise to a glimmer of hope within me. Elite Dangerous has significant issues and needed a radical change. Many players love the game as it is, but if it continues to cater only to this hardcore audience, it won't thrive for long. As someone who used to enjoy hardcore gaming, witnessing the current grind is disheartening and keeps me away from the game.
The old powerplay mechanics was impressive, and a major reason to keep playing after you got all your favorite ships upgraded. So im really interested to see if they actually managed to make it even better..!
One of the biggest issues with powerplay is the biggest influential groups in Elite have never had any clarification whatsoever if powerplay actually achieves anything meaningful in-game in terms of mechanics. It was whispered for years that powerplay was a potential avenue for unlocking secret missions and acquiring unknown permits but we've never had anything to back it up other than a very vague statement many years ago which was basically there's missions out there that no one has ever seen before. Semantic twaddle because they're random generation? Or something actually new?
You know what? This is surprising! I think this is actually a good sign. And I’m always first to be ultra critical of Elite and FDEV. Power Play always seemed super cool and engaging in theory. In practice, it just wasn’t done right. Very interesting, indeed.
For the unannounced "new" feature i think Base building is unrelated and off-topic for ED. If there will be some kind of base-building i think more related will be a kind of Space stations or space hubs. Ship interiors is more on-topic for ED so i go with that
Just to give another viewpoint, I never understood the criticism on the updates. I just keep flying away and enjoy the vastness of the galaxy, hoping for further updates so Elite can become even more amazing.
@@LaepsynPaepsyn That's probably why you never understood the criticism. If you're happy to just aimlessly fly around then I'm sure it's great. But for those of us wanting stuff to actually do that feels like it was worth doing, not so much unfortunately.
I really want landing on earth like worlds complete with starports, that is the one thing that would make me interested in logging in again. The end of the Thargoid war is a good thing though I will admit.
innovation and effort would be required though. Not Frontiers forte as of late. One excuse they'll use is oh we've been using this engine since pre-2012 it's really old now we don't have the graphical utility for it. It's bollocks though.... Graphics aren't everything. If the gameplay and mechanics were sound it would fulfil a long time promise.
Haven't played this in over 3 years and not properly for probably like 5. This game was one of my biggest time sinks for so many reason. I always felt like this game had so much more potential, the world of Elite is so interesting, there's so much lore etc. Kind of sad that they didn't properly commit most of the time.
Same, although I'm wondering if these updates such as PP will still apply to Horizons and the BGS that runs behind... I play in VR so I'm sure as heck not bothering with the Oddity client!
@@DarkonFullPower I haven't played since Odyssey came out and the split that happened then - have they removed the normal version since? If so I'm not coming back, since I want the game to run at 60fps.
Bringing a game back from the brink is what this game needs. One man has done this recently, and turned what was a collapsing black hole into a brilliant super nova is Sean Murray. Frontier need to look to No Man’s Sky and take up the approach they took.
Frontier are a million miles away from what Hello Games have done with NMS. And they appear to have no idea whatsoever how make their game fun or interesting.
The game severely needs a total combat update/overhaul. It has for years. It's been stuck in an awkward place between simulation and mmo and it just feels terrible, both for PVP and PVE
I always felt that Powerplay was a huge missed opportunity, because if it was less opaque & much less repetitive, then it would have given players a reason to log in every week (or even every day) to help expand/defend their chosen faction - with players of other faction potentially keeping it interesting, since they'd be trying to do the same. Powerplay v2 needs to allow you to do nearly any activity you want to help your faction (e.g. mining, bounty hunting, trading, delivery missions, planet-based missions), with just the location being the important thing. And they need to present it in an easier to understand way, hopefully without dumbing it down too much. If it manages to do all that, then it could push Elite Dangerous to new heights of player numbers.
Mr Ant! Oh how I have missed your Elite Videos - you taught me how to mine in my Python. You have been a source of knowledge for my Elite days, helping me find this or that material to grind. But I joined the UEE Navy, and defected to Star Citizen. But right this very minute, I am downloading, and installing my Elite: Odyssey copy. See you out there, Commander. o7
I'm a casual miner. I reinstall the game every 2 years or so. So I won't be able to give a detailed feedback on balancing and I won't pretend to know what the game actually needs at this point. But I'll say this. Every time I play a game which has any resemblance of space sim in it, I find myself saying Elite did it better. But all it has is space sim. And gamers like myself may be looking for some content in the game, rather than just the platform to do plenty of space sim stuff. Even though It's the best in that area. I think It's not enough at this point.
What do you actually expect to DO inside your ship? I mean actual gameplay? It seems like the kind of thing which would be cool for a while, but then the novelty would wear off when you realise you can't do anything new, and it just slows you down.
@@Henkkanen Not any more than landing on planets with atmospheres should come without saying. Not to mention that was present in Frontier: Elite 2, unlike space legs.
@@sentinel2199 I mean...landing on planets with atmospheres should come without saying. Can't land on any planet that looks remotely interesting, but the featureless dead rocks with nothing to do on them? Oh, we can land on those all day long!
In general, I'm still disappointed by Elite Dangerous. By now I would have thought that we would have full atmospheric flight, many more ships and SRVs, ship interiors, NPC crew members, perhaps even different "bubbles" of different civilisations throughout the galaxy.
What would make ED a million times better is base building: Build your own base on any land able planet in the galaxy and setup your own ship factory and part shops as well as a market.
Agreed but particularly if they could provide lush green vegetation strewn planets with blue seas (like our own) on which you could find your own ideal spot for such a base.
The problem with base building is the same as with Fleet Carriers. Everyone will want one and it will make a mess of navigating popular systems. A solution to this would be making fleet carriers and bases only available to your wing/squadron unless you pay for public listing. This will give a money sink for those who want to show off to everyone while allowing players to own one without it going poof if they fall behind on payments.

How could I catch up with the thargoid war, with all of it. I haven't played since the beginning of the war and I would love to take up ED again, before these new big updates to get a feel of nostalgia.
I think PowerPlay could work very well IF it was an optional PVP mode wherein there were set up battle zones, particular systems that are designed for PVP, maybe battle arenas where pilots go in 1 v1 or 5 v 5 duels vs enemy factions. They could maybe make some story element update wherein "after years of failed conquest and ever mutual dissatisfaction with the results and status quo, larger powers decided to settle political problems in tense arena combat where pilots win battles while politicians win favors". IDK something like that to make it a little lore friendly or something and yet no make it so that so many systems would just view you as enemies de facto.
New ships are welcome!!! I think no one does powerplay. Except enrolling, grinding delivery missions, getting the pp modules and bye bye. I still pray for ship interiors. X4F has limited ship interiors and it's great already.
Over 2000 hours in Elite, but I'm definitely not playing it again until ship interiors are a thing. After playing X4 and Star Citizen, I can't go back. If people don't understand why people like me refuse to come back for "10 minutes worth of fun and then you'll be back to doing what you were before", then I don't care to answer them anymore. Immersion as funny and meme worthy as it may seem is the reason I play X4 and Star Citizen, I no longer care about Elite for the simple fact that Frontier can't give the community what we all wanted from the start.
My first thought is This is Incredible!! New Ships??!!! My second thought is, The Grind. I dont have the time to grind like i did before. Elite is a game i keep trying to love, but i just feel it asks too much of my time.
I want Elite to be something I want to play, but that remains to be seen. I have to admit I’ve enjoyed my time playing Star Citizen more than my over 700 hours in Elite.
I'm just getting back into Elite after many years away. I picked up Odyssey and have a new pc coming. Looking forward to all these updates. Thanks for all the info Obsidian! ☕😁
The issue was senior leadership, Braben himself, if they are cut out of the Development of ED then it will go well. The Leaderhsip was always the problem, not the hard working devs. GG this might turn out to be exciting
Powerplay 2.0 could actually be amazing if they do it right. It always had the potential to be the ultimate end-game and potentially one of the coolest parts of Elite, but it's always been bogged down by its overall boring mechanics and insanely complex systems.
Oh NICE! Frontier finally listened to their playerbase and gave them Ship Interiors!?!?!!! The one thing players wanted most??!! Ohhhh Nevermind, just 1 new pvp ship for a game whos playerbase dropped off substantially after being lied to by Braben about Ship interiors.... (count me out) : ) Going back to rockin, Updatin, kick buttin, Star Citizen,, L8R
hmmm, guessing the next 3 ships are a faction ship, like imperial krait, or guardian/thargoid based on atleast 1, maybe finally a build-a-ship with a medium grind or some funds to unlock parts.(all sizes) or even.... ship interiors(small/medium only)
I hinestly thought wed were on elites death rattle years now. But new ships more contents etc im sooooo happy. If they deliver, and keep it up this game is going straight back to the top of my list
If the coolest thing they've done with ED in years isn't either ship interiors or meaningful gameplay improvements, then I'll probably never touch it again lol. We'll see.
I really wish they would introduce role-based ships. Similar to Eve Online, they could have an additional internal slot that only supports a specific type of module with a global bonus to its stats. As it stands, there is no reason to go back to smaller ships as they have no purpose once you can afford a bigger ship. It could be a ship that provides a fleet bonus to tracking which would mean they would need to be prioritised. I raised these a few years ago on their forum, but nope.
"no purpose to go back to smaller ships" speak for yourself, in combat roles the small ships are all fantastic to come back to and are hyper maneuverable compared to even the med combat ships
The game used to have this in the form of the restricted slots on Saud Kruger ships. Aaand… it sucked. They got rid of it because forcing those ships into such a specific role with an arbitrary lockout wasn't fun. At least when combat ships suck at exploration it feels like a fairly organic result of their stats. (Ignoring the fact that military compartments still exist…) I'm guessing you're a trader and/or a Horizons player if you view small ships as useless? Small ships excel at exploration, especially in Odyssey. Speaking of Odyssey: Small ships are the meta for Odyssey missions. Skilled combat pilots value small ships for their extreme speed and maneuverability. Even mining has a sweet spot in the medium range because large ships can often take longer to fill the holds of than most players have free continuous time.
@@Monody512 When i say small ships, i am talking the Eagle sized. If I could play just using the Eagle, that would be fine. I don't see have having an additional slot for one module would be restrictive.
@@simonknibbs5867 Ah, so it's not really the _small_ ships you're referring to, but the _cheap_ ships that are overshadowed by their more expensive counterparts. Your idea could work, but it's worth noting that with enough engineering and masochism, you can already make any ship work. :P More seriously: Nearly every ship in the game has a niche it fills just based on its stats and attributes, even the cheap ships. The Eagle MkII has the fastest inertial turning rate in the game, allowing it to fly circles around other ships with the right pilot. The Sidewinder MkI is the smallest, allowing it to fit into places other ships can't. The Hauler has the lowest hull mass and can be optimized into a fantastic Bubble shuttle. Even the Asp Scout has something: the fastest supercruise turning speed in the game, making it theoretically the best at evading interdictions.
It's been 5 years. 5 years since a new ship has been added. To a spaceship sim game. I hope that timeframe doesn't repeat and we have to wait another 5 years before we get some more.
Elite would be in a much better state today if they had just made 1-2 new ships a year instead of wasting dev time on Odyssey when they didn't have the dev resources to do a good job implementing space legs. The game at its core has always been about grinding to get a new ship and then grinding to upgrade it.
I played through most of Elite and stopped when the last thing on the menu was fighting Thargoids. I did not enjoy trying to fight with weapons that had all the feel of trying to fight with a balloon on a long piece of string tied to a stick.
I'd like to see more variety in planetary environments to encourage the exploration aspect and of course flying around over the properly inhabited planets with atmospheres would be great too!
Maybe this will revamp powerplay in a way that makes pvp more worth it for fleets/squads? I've read past complaints there's no real reason to fight over space atm, no objectives, so yeah.
Honestly, this game have the greatest potential from all of those space games out there with similiar model, because here, you truly can go everywhere, to 500 bilion stars, and that is something that nothing else have. If devs will make it so players can do more, like estabilishing actuall faction of they own, building colonies, or things along those lines, this game will have second youth.
The Python MkII looks really sweet. I'm glad it doesn't look like a Python with a ship kit. The Viper MkIII kinda looks like that unfortunately. The Cobra MkIV as well, but not as severe I think.
Even IF Elite is never released on the "next gen": consoles and we get the full "live" game, Odyssey and any future expansions, hopefully we get "some" new content on the "last gen" consoles! Raxxla is and has always been the friends we made along the way. With the lack of concrete hints, they've asked us to find a needle in a field of haystacks that stretches from London to San Francisco, the long way (across Europe, Asia, and the Pacific). If it existed in the game, what would it take to get Frontier to reveal hints about it that they've held off this long? It would've been an obvious rescue lever after Odyssey completely blew it, but total radio silence tells me it doesn't exist.
I really hope they get rid of the engineers grind, so that new or more time constrained players get a chance at being competitive and not completely wiped out in open play.

In Elite (1984) the Thargoids were a rare but ever-present threat. IMO that should continue, specifically in witchspace (sic) or occasional USS.
I hope they leave Thargoids in some systems. I've stopped playing because I didn't have enough time to engineer my ships and fight goids, but if the new updates are good enough, I'd love to be able to fight some
I wish there is two types of thargoids, the ones that stalk and scare you without any fight and the ones that come to fight
yes it should become no longer a threat, but still something that is present, and that goes for all aspects. this is coming from someone who hasnt had the chance to touch this content... i would be so disappointed if they just threw it all away
They did specifically state it was the "culmination" of the Thargoid war. Not the end. Thargoids will still be present in the game.
Wild that I was just considering earlier today, for the first time in years, about reinstalling the game and just flying around a bit.
I haven't played since planetary landing on xbox..
Them not getting the potential the game had is my biggest computer gaming disappointment and my first computer was a C64 !
I felt the6 don't understand what we were wanting with fps
I'm just happy to hear that they actually care about the game and are willing to make changes to give players what they've been asking for. Elite deserves so much better than what it's gotten these last few years.
New ships are just a nice to have that will keep people busy for a few weeks. What we need is a deeper game, new gameplays, new environnements and more immersion.
An we are getting that with a whole new feature in a update at the end of the year.
What was inferred in the stream was that the new ‘variants’ will be designed with particular purposes in mind.
@@underleftI could not disagree with you more. New ships means more diversity. The more ships there the better it will be.
Did you even watch the video or the stream? We’re getting Powerplay 2.0 AND a brand new feature.

Notice on Steam it's always the same posters, with a few newbie every now and then
ship interiors + navigable ship interiors during flight would change the entire trajectory of Frontier and Elite Dangerous as a whole.
Huge amount of work for zero gameplay value. Yes, it would be cool to walk around the ships, but there's no game loop.
I would love a good reason to set up my VR and hotas setup and dive back into Elite for a bit. We shall see.
So would I, but I haven't heard anything hinting they'd even do cursory testing of VR, let alone fixing.
Cross fingers but don't hold your breath 😅
Heh, the only reason I'm looking to upgrade my gfx card this year is that I have to jump through too many hoops to get decent frames on my current one when playing Elite in VR, and I can't use my virtual second monitors when I optimise like that. Otherwise it would still be perfectly adequate for everything I do.
I still think that ED has the most beautiful nebulas in gaming right behind Space Engine. That's the main reason why I got this game lmfaoo

They should focus on fixing existing ships, the Anaconda still has floating textures when the landing gear is extracted.
And adding visual damage across all ships
Flown mine for over a year. Haven't noticed this. Whereabouts are they?
and the landing gear clips through the ground on landing when it does that (slightly silly) bounce.
I think they should add a more involved RPG component to the game. A game within the game where you could work on your character as well. I could see maybe modder involvement with the creation of settlements and quests, adventuring in and around settlements ala Skyrim.
For the devs, wishing them and everyone at Frontier great success. I think we'll see growth in player base.

I, for one, don't understand why Frontier doesn't do what Bethesda has done and open it up to the player community to create mods, ships, etc.
dude its just ships chill out
We'll have to wait in order to see what this update really means.
If the new powerplay system is good, I'd consider coming back. It gave it a point to play.
I suspect it will inherit many of the systems from the Thargoids War.
I have to admit, even with its rough state, Star Citizen ruined Elite for me and it's still hard to believe I'm actually typing this.
Elite Dangerous needs a bit less unrealistic parts if it wants to people to like the game. Build bases/outposts, creatures and stuff. Yeah, it breaks immersiveness, but that would make the game much more interesting. It will be like realistic version of No Man's Sky.

A powerplay overhaul is YEARS overdue. Let's see how they decide to do this
My warthog is hungry for new elite content. I hope it doesn't get disappointed.
@@underleftAnd you know this how? Source??
For the unannounced "new" feature i think Base building is unrelated and off-topic for ED. If there will be some kind of base-building i think more related will be a kind of Space stations or space hubs. Ship interiors is more on-topic for ED so i go with that
I really hope we'll get at least 1 update that's not a flop

Im still on horizons because of the game downgrades in the updated version.
yeah no u Must go pc or nvidia thingy if u wanna keep playng the game with new stuff
Same, although I'm wondering if these updates such as PP will still apply to Horizons and the BGS that runs behind... I play in VR so I'm sure as heck not bothering with the Oddity client!
Yeah, performance in Odyssey is disgusting, especially since it looks worse - the planet generation particularly.
Assuming you mean Legacy Horizons. Live Horizons IS Odyssey's engine. If you are running that, you are, for all intents and purposes, running Odyssey.
I for one, think it might be interesting to see what a DBX Mk-II might be capable of...
*LOVE* my DBX!
AKA they need to bring over the stuff they develope for the Thargoid war to Power Play.
I always felt powerplay should have been THE endgame activity. Good to hear they are doing something with it.
See you out there, Commander. o7
Is vr support being reprioritized? That’s the only way I play and the only thing that would bring me back since Odyssey launched.
Frontier haven't discussed VR for a very long time sadly.
No. Vr was made by 1 dev during his off time. But stopped working there before Ody came out.
I'll come back to Elite when they deliver the ship interiors.
What do you actually expect to DO inside your ship? I mean actual gameplay? It seems like the kind of thing which would be cool for a while, but then the novelty would wear off when you realise you can't do anything new, and it just slows you down.

In general, I'm still disappointed by Elite Dangerous. By now I would have thought that we would have full atmospheric flight, many more ships and SRVs, ship interiors, NPC crew members, perhaps even different "bubbles" of different civilisations throughout the galaxy.
What would make ED a million times better is base building:
Build your own base on any land able planet in the galaxy and setup your own ship factory and part shops as well as a market.

The anti xeno boys n girls have the Thargoids on the ropes, you can play as normal and get involved if you want to no worries.
So there is hope after all.
That ship looks like the F19 from Microprose btw!
New ships are welcome!!! I think no one does powerplay. Except enrolling, grinding delivery missions, getting the pp modules and bye bye. I still pray for ship interiors. X4F has limited ship interiors and it's great already.
Finally! New ships! I would love to see another advanced race that we could trade with, battle , buy ships from.
Yes. There are ways, even if they cannot change or add new things, that they could spice up the game with and this is a perfect example.
Ohhhh Nevermind, just 1 new pvp ship for a game whos playerbase dropped off substantially
after being lied to by Braben about Ship interiors.... (count me out)
: ) Going back to rockin, Updatin, kick buttin, Star Citizen,, L8R
Fingers crossed there might actually be gameplay beyond a grind
Woah woah woah, let’s not get too carried away. This is still FDev we’re talking about. lol 😅
the grind IS the gameplay
Actually the new powerplay will make attaining faction specific components and ships even harder. I guarantee it
I wouldn't be surprise if they disappear. @@sam23696
The grind is your choice. 🙄
hmmm, guessing the next 3 ships are a faction ship, like imperial krait, or guardian/thargoid based on atleast 1, maybe finally a build-a-ship with a medium grind or some funds to unlock parts.(all sizes) or even.... ship interiors(small/medium only)
I hinestly thought wed were on elites death rattle years now.
(Ignoring the fact that military compartments still exist…)
I'm guessing you're a trader and/or a Horizons player if you view small ships as useless? Small ships excel at exploration, especially in Odyssey. Speaking of Odyssey: Small ships are the meta for Odyssey missions. Skilled combat pilots value small ships for their extreme speed and maneuverability. Even mining has a sweet spot in the medium range because large ships can often take longer to fill the holds of than most players have free continuous time.
@@Monody512 When i say small ships, i am talking the Eagle sized. If I could play just using the Eagle, that would be fine. I don't see have having an additional slot for one module would be restrictive.
So for example, the Eagle could have a hardwired ECM where you can use chaff but it doesn't require ammo. It would be a power cost.
@@simonknibbs5867 Ah, so it's not really the _small_ ships you're referring to, but the _cheap_ ships that are overshadowed by their more expensive counterparts.
Your idea could work, but it's worth noting that with enough engineering and masochism, you can already make any ship work. :P
More seriously: Nearly every ship in the game has a niche it fills just based on its stats and attributes, even the cheap ships.
Man I loved this game so much, this might bring me back
It's been 5 years.
Id like to see the variety we used to have
Maybe this will revamp powerplay in a way that makes pvp more worth it for fleets/squads? I've read past complaints there's no real reason to fight over space atm, no objectives, so yeah.
As a star citizen, I'm truly happy for my Elite brethren. Hopefully things aren't as bad with Fdev as we've been led to believe.
Ship interiors... Never seen or fought a thargoid.. pretty much zero interest since I'm a solo player.,
Would be nice to finally see the Panther Clipper.
Especially any new ships! 😯😀🤘🤞 .
The regular Python was my favourite ship before I upgraded to the Anaconda and its' still my favourite medium ship and to fly an upgraded Python on PS4 would be amazing! 😀🤘🤞 .
I wish they did base building in this game
Less grind, more fun!
A less grindy Powerplay v2 would be great. :)
I dont mind the grind, oooh that rhymes...
I just want more focused additions to the current play styles
We the traders are praying for the release of the Panther Clipper, with a huge cargo bay, just to earn insane absurd titanic ludicrous ammounts of money.
Surely it's time to play the Raxxla card soon...
@@theMedicatedCitizen no mather what Raxlla would be in wouldn't meet expectations because after all this time, so many teories expectations are higher than towers in imperial senat
Raxxla is and has always been the friends we made along the way. Frontier can prove me wrong anytime but I'm convinced that it's been marketing fluff and a little white lie to encourage players to get out there and explore the galaxy.
Any hope for a console update, maybe adding horizons?
Didn't we get the console version of the game, Horizons, when Horizons launched on P.C?
@@BrianM78I'm sure they mean, releasi the "live" game, Odyssey and any future dlc on the"next gen" consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X (while everything they can, at least new ships etc to the "last gen " consoles)!
Which is what we all want! 😯😂😀🤘🤞 .
Played Elite for years but sadly left & now migrated over to Star Citizen. Nice to see they haven't given up on it but a couple new ships to grind engineering for ain't what I'm looking for unfortunately
