So while I understand, that Munchlax in DPPT is super tedious to aquire, I believe Beldum is equally as bad imo. Beldum's swarms are much more tedious to find since its a random route once a day to get a swarm for plus you'd need the swarm to be Route 228. If anything, Sinnoh could have been a tie entry for both Munch and Beldum. Both are equally really annoying lol.

You can change the time on the ds to get the beldum swarm but for munchlax you need to find out where your special trees are then wait 6 hours for every encounter to have a 1% chance to get munchlax

Are we all forgetting about the Feebas pond in DPPt? You gotta go through cave after cave probably lost as hell dealing with tough high level wild Pokemon. Then there is the room itself: Just 4 tiles where it has a chance to spawn, and they change every day? Ouch.
At least in BW and BW2, you had a rare chance to find a whole Milotic on Route 1 if you fish in the rippling water and not deal with Feebas' bullcrap, who also is on Route 1 in the ripples.

Finding any of these Pokemon with a rare chance of 1% is difficult as it is, but not as much as finding them as a shiny makes it worth even more problematic. The most of anything is a Sinistea that's both authentic & a shiny Pokemon, god bless anyone that has/was able to catch 1 of those in Sword & Shield.
Also now looking back at older generation games from gen 1-5, as much as we fans tend to critized Gamefreaks direction in the newer Pokemon games with it's artstyle and gameplay, it makes it much easier to able catch Pokemon and do things that we cannot do in the older games. Such as leveling up our team faster with Rare Cadies/Exp candies, able to switch our Pokemon abilities, earn money faster and so on.

  • @Spizzles

Id argue Salamence would be hardest gen 7. You have a 1% on route one to find bagon, and a 1% chance on top of that to encounter salamence thru SOS. Although its level 4 or so, its catch rate is not only pretty low, but youre most likely to be early game when you encounter it (somehow) and only have pokeballs.

13:30 Not necessarily true about not knowing the form of Sinistea until after you caught it. You can just run into a bunch and then run from them. Once you encounter the antique form and run, you’ll get a message saying that your Pokedex has been updated. Then you just re-encounter the one you ran from.

While completing the pokedex in PLA I found myself struggling to catch a munchlax (about an hour of walking to its spawn, going back to base and sleeping until it finally appeared), and if you want to 100% the pokedex (as in, have every entry be rank 10), Shieldon was by far the pokemon that took me the longest to complete, as it has a small chance of spawning in space rifts specifically in coronet highlands, and you need to catch at least TWO to be able to get the rank 10. I spent three days on-and-off until I finally caught the second one.

I think that for S/M and US/UM, Politoed is more difficult to catch for more difficult requirement you need for you to encounter it. The only way you can got it is either evolve your Poliwhirl by trafing, which doesn't count, and the SOS battle in Malie Garden. Although it can spawn with any Pokemon and the catch rate is higher than Dhelmise with 45, you need to setup rain to encounter it at night with only 1% to spawn. It is already frustrating to get the Politoed to spawn, it got Perish Song, which you either used Taunt, or hope that it doesn't use one or even hope that you can catch it before the count down ended. So, you need a Rain setter with Taunt and False Swipe (to keep one Pokemon alive for calling allies), otherwise, it is very difficult. Mr Mime with Soundproof, Skill Swap (but it can also learn Taunt, which is better) and Rain Dance can do too but it doesn't have False Swipe.
I actually got a shiny Poliwag and got my Pokemon infected by Pokérus because of that.

In Gen I and II, I would have said Dratini was the hardest to catch, since that is rare to catch in the Safari Zone, in and in Gen II, it becomes on par with the legendary beasts, which I can say are easier to catch, except Entei.
The other reason for Dratini is because you have only to places to catch it.
Chansey, Skarmory, and Misdreavus were easy to catch for me.

Id argue feebas is the hardest to catch in SV. Finding that one water cave is crazy difficult to start with in Kitakami, but then once you do find it, Feebas only has a 1% spawn rate, AND all the spawns will be clogged by barboaches, Whiscashes, and all the other cave pokemon. Even if you make a water encounter sandwich, you still have to deal with all the stupid Barchoaches that’ll spawn before Feebas does. Plus, Feebas can spawn under the water, in the dark cave, so there are chance you won’t even see it when it does spawn. Feebas will always be a pain. But I guess you could just get it from a raid den.

2 notes, checking for Sturdy on Skarmory in gen 4 would kill the Skarmory regardless cuz sturdy didn't become a Focus Sash until gen 5. Also to make Skarmory even more annoying to catch, its version exclusive in Johto games. It doesn't appear naturally in either Gold or Heart Gold!
Though imo I don't think Skarm was ever that hard to catch to begin with...but maybe I'm just lucky.

You got a few things wrong. First, I think you shouldve gone with either Kangaskhan or Tauros for Gen 1, since you can just buy Scyther and Pinsir with coins, and can Catch Chansey in Cerulean Cave where you can actually weaken it.
In addition,The level 100 Gyarados in the Nature Reserve is actually the second instance of being able to catch a level 100 Pokemon in the wild. Not sure if its possible in Diamond, Pearl, or BDSP, but in Platinum its possible to fish up Magikarp of any level, 1-100, but only in the Resort Area.
Finally, Munchlax should have tied with Beldum for gen 4 Sinnoh.

Btw - not every tile within the river is a possible Feebas tile. I believe its something like 50 tiles which of those, 6 are actuve based on the catchy phrase (theres maps and even tool you can use to look it up tiles). If the goal is no outside tool assistance, then the tile maps themselves are sufficient to reduce the time to a couple hours.
It only becomes hard if you don't know anything about the possible locations (ie the ones that have the possibility of being active) vs not possible. Of course if the condition is a total novice at the game figuring it out without some help or the internet, good luck (but realisticly, limiting knowledge is not really a fair metric)

Okay, you go with Volcarona even though it is available by an egg earlier in the game. so you should have kept those parameters for other pokemon.
Wynaut takes Gen 3 by a landslide. it's a 100% encounter chance, but like a 0.00001% chance to find the island in which it spawns.
Gen 1 the hardest to catch is tied with Tauros and Kangaskhan in my opinion. Chansey is in Cerulean Cave.
Gen 2, the hardest to catch is definitely Larvitar. it's a 5% encounter in a cave only accessible after getting 16 badges with a pretty bad catch rate. Skarmory is easy compared to Larvitar.
Gen 4 i'd actually argue is Feebas instead of Munchlax or Beldum. It's actually harder to find in gen 4 than it is in gen 3, because there are more tiles to search and less it can spawn in.
PLA i'd argue the fossils and porygon though. Might just be my own luck, but i spent hours searching distortions until i found them. I don't consider Massive Mass outbreaks as viable replacements, as most people that played the game did it before MMOs existed.
The rest i agree with though.

I don't think Kleavor is the pick for PLA. You'll find one fairly easily if you check Scyther massive mass outbreaks. And catch rates aren't too relevant for that game. Cherubi however is a total nightmare to find, you can go hours checking trees without finding any and that is the only method of finding one. Honorable mention to Cherrim on release due to a bug that made it completely impossible to catch.

I think that the pokemon that is hardest in scarlet and violet is wo-chien, as any encounters that aren't statics can be boosted by sandwiches, wo-chien is the hardest of the static pokemon to catch as it has recovery in the form of giga drain and can half your hp with ruination and is a grass type so spore wont work to sleep wo-chien, not to mention lowering your attack by 25%

Though Beldum is tough, you can change the time for the Beldum swarm however if you try and change the time for honey trees it resets them and locks them for 24 hours. There is no way to find out which 4 trees Munchlax is one and on top of that it is a 1% encounter. It also has a decently low catchrate of 50. All of these factors to me say that it is far harder than Beldum. I would honestly go as far to say that Munchlax in Gen 4 is the hardest pokemon to find and catch in the entire series.
