I saw that little furry dude and instantly thought, “oh that’s critters” and I have never even seen that film before I just remembered the poster for it. 😂
The disaster happend on April 26th 1986. The movie "Critters" premiered on April 15th 1986 in the US and 6 month later in Europe. In the 80ies it took around a year until a movie was available in video rental and more than 2 years to buy it. Apart from that in the USSR they hat the SECAM system, in Europe the PAL and NTSC in the US. The video recorder they used is a cheap japanese recorder from the 90ies. So it must be a PAL system. For this reason the tape they found must be PAL as well. They would not have been able to play it if it was left during the desaster.
Wasn't some video kind of visible between the two of three systems? I had an video (the wall ,pink floyd) I got Inadvertently that played on my ntsc recorder that was a japanese tape? I remember being angry that it looked like crap untill I figured out why...
No - PAL and SECAM are for colour only. As the TV is Black and White, there is no difference anyway. The video format is (or was) the same in all over Europe: 625 lines and 25 images per second. The US has 30 images and 525 lines. In practice you can watch a NTSC video on an European VCR too - when you adjust the flipping of the image on your TV. During communism only a few VCR were around - at least with us in East Germany. Ukraine was probably different - or the techies at Jupiter had such stuff for "research" and fun. All of my friends who invited for Video parties had the latest Hollywood blockbusters pirated in terrible quality - I cannot remeber having seen any in colour. Also because if you copy a VHS cassette, the b/w image looks much better and with a quite robust set such as the russian "Yunost" you always can adjust the image to a level that it is watchable as the Kreosan guys did :-) PS: the tape from Pripyat is not a "better more soviet" tape but just an older cassette type with shorter play time (and ferro type 1 (brown) instead of chrome type 2 (black) - I didn't know that there was such thing)
@@sonus289 I think PAL and SECAM would still play as only colour information is different. With NTSC, I guess you wouldn't see much as the frame rate/sync is 60Hz/30fps instead of 50Hz/25FPS
I think it is possible that this is a original tape from the time. Back then it was usual for tech geeks around the world to pirate movies via Video Cassettes. They even made their own copies directly from the film rolls to VHS (or other system), and sometimes even before the official release of the movies in the theaters. So if your dates are correct, this fits perfectly into the Chernobyl disaster timeframe. About the format, SECAM should be at least black/white compatible with PAL, only the color information would be lost, as far as I remember. As someone who lived in the 80's, I would say this video is 100% plausible.
Interesting theory is that after the incident for months and even a few years after they sent in hardened dudes that had one mission and that was to shoot all the domestic animals that had to be left behind during the evacuation. All feared they were all contaminated and could mutate into monsters. These people went in and watched the movie critters at night while they shot critters in the day. Pretty sad.
The Jupiter Plant was used during the cleanup process to assemble makeshift robots (as seen in another Kreosan video - they're really informative) to go into the reactor's core to find out, what's going on there. Most failed due to the harsh conditions. Liquidators dug a tunnel under the failed reactor unit to prevent the water table to be contamninated. Though this particular action was in vain, the corium didn't leak. But it wouldn't have been possible at all without proper reconnaisance.
Keine Ahnung, aber insgesamt das der Film auf Soviel Videotape ist. In welcher Sprache ist der und wann kam der auf den Markt (US/EU/SU)? War der überhaupt erhältlich?
