Religion is an attempt by man to reach God own our own. Real Christianity and faith is about Almighty God reaching down to us through His own Son, Jesus Christ. Pleasing God is a simply a relationship with Him and a daily conversation and introspect on how we treat others. Some folks make it scary and complicated. I believe Boujee has already helped you navigate many of your doubts. You have shared your life with us and grown so much since I started following you during your first shakedown hike preparing for the AT. Juliane, you are a smart, determined and beatiful young lady, inside and out!
Amen, Amen Amen
I dont think Jesus was a big fan of religion. "Just saying"
This trail is so different from anything I have seen. Good job on crushing the miles!
There are people who want you to believe they're good because they're religious. However, in reality they never live up to their own teachings. Even worse, some people use religion to take advantage on others and for personal gain.
Stay away from someone who praises themselves.
Relationship with the Lord is what’s important not Religion…
Amen
Well said
Truth!
I know you’re not posting real time. Get off trail if it’s the 26th or later! Hurricane Helen will cause extreme flash flooding!!
I enjoy your thoughts on religion. I feel like you’re like many people in the US, we’re all trying to wrap our brain around how it fits in our lives. I grew up in the Christian faith and have always felt God’s presence in my life. I am also a music director and have always worked in churches while teaching music in schools. But “religion” and “Christianity” is just nuts! Especially in the last 8 years or so since it’s become so political. I always go back to things like Romans 15:13 which boils it down to hope, joy, and peace. We ALL need more of those things in our lives. Thanks again for your openness and sharing.
Hope your pushing big miles gets/got you done before Hurricane Helene comes calling. You picked a good time to leave FL.
I'd guess that man was concerned for your eternal destination, but he definitely should work on his method of communicating that. 😛
I don't blame you for steering clear of religion. And I'm glad you didn't "throw the baby out with the bath water", so to speak.
God is real and He seeks relationship with each of us.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
The hurricane will be right over you at 7am Friday morning. Expect 5 inches of rain and tropical force winds. Take care!
Morning, Juliane. 31+ miles. That's great. I hope that you are out of Alabama and Georgia. Hurricane Helene is headed that way after it visits FL. It is such a big storm. Anyway, I'm praying that you are well out of harm's way. Alabama is a beautiful state with varied landscapes. The forest you are hiking through is reall nice. The meadows were beautiful. Noticed a few blowdowns. Hopefully not too many. I really appreciate your taking us on this hike with you. Take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.
Religion is such a twisted construct. Just love God, love people, & do your best to do the right things.
Without religion, I think there'd be a lot more people doing terrible things. I think religion keeps them from doing it. So it definitely has its place!
Is Hurricane Helene going to affect your hiking ? I'm sorry that your friends father did that to you. I was raised on fire and brimstone religion and men can make it scary. Take care you have a wonderful spirit.
In NH there is the 48 Club (it can be done over a period or time, during a year, or there are also winter and summer challenges) - also you can do 52WAV (with a view) - I don't think either one of those would be interesting to you (yet) maybe the entire long trail next in Vermont while you're there :)
Most feel God is imposing Himself, because religious folks impose themselves in His name. However, the opposite is true. God is hidden, difficult to find and difficult to understand. It's up to the individual to seek Him. To try to understand Him. His works and His ways.
She is such a beautiful soul. If we were honest, don’t we all go through the same struggles to understand our Creator who is beyond our comprehension? I’m a pilot and occasional backpacker. What I love about both is seeing God’s wonderful creation. I pray that God himself wraps His arms around Julianne as she walks along. …seek and you will find…knock and the door is opened.
@@mafp22wYES!!
I grew up primitive baptist. We weren't allowed to dance! Lol. I was traumatized by many experiences in that church. I was most afraid of getting baptized because of the one time that the pastor what's baptizing a heavyset young woman and dropped her in the baptismal. I couldn't swim and really was afraid of the water. I never did get baptized in that church but that reason! Years later I got baptized in the Presbyterian Church. They just sprinkle water on your head. 😂
As like you I was traumatized by the preacher saying I'd go to hell for wearing pants to church at 20 below zero..I was 13.
And now you watch Footloose for inspiration. 😅
Somewhere is a complete bad ass. Let's just call it as we know it. LOL
God loved us all. I think as we look back on our lives we will see the hurt we cause others and acknowledge it. Even if it not be on purpose. We only have earthly parents that they try and make us good people. Heavenly parents are perfect and understand where we are going and what we are doing. I truly fell we will feel more love then we have ever felt. We will have an understanding from both peoples perspective.
Religion is a commmunity of believers who share the same faith. God wants us to have a relationship with Him and to have faith and trust. There was an interesting post on facebook the other day that went something like this. A follower of God said, Lord, I want to hold your hand and God said No, let me hold your hand. He said if you hold my hand, you might let go when things get hard, but if you let me meaning God hold your hand, I will lead you through the tough times and will never let go. Impressive mileage today and loved the historical Baptist church. So interesting with going back and forth between the two time zones.
Your scary religious story is similar to something my sisters and I lived. We went to Catholic school, but we're not baptized under any religion. My father was Catholic (the never go to church kind 😂) and my mother was Presbyterian. They decided that their children would not be christened/baptized either religion so that we could make up our own minds, when we were old enough to have our own minds 😉 we went to the Catholic school tho because they had the best curriculum in the district.
Anyway...my Catholic (never goes to church kind) uncle would ALWAYS tell me and my sisters that we were going to hell because we were not baptized 🤪 what a great way to introduce young minds to religion. So we all basically decided against religion altogether 😊
I hope you can bank enough zero hours to go to Pinhoti trail festival AND finish the trail before you have to go to your mum's.
I was 9years old when we moved to a new place (in our equivalent to a bible belt) and a month after settling in, one of my class mates came up to me and told me “I can’t play with you anymore- because you are going to hell” and that was that… Never spoke to me again for the next two years before we moved again. Why? I was not baptized.
Yeah - still not baptized, and now “actively” not believing.
And that interaction certainly left an impression of “kindness of christian harts”
@@Ane_Rikke right!? 😬😅
You're banking so you can do both, make it to ye ma's and the Pinhoti Festival, aren't you? Fingers crossed you get to do both. Tiny reminder...Self-care isn't just a trend, it's a necessity. Embrace the ups and downs, say yes to new experiences, and prioritize your own well-being. You deserve it, Juliane. 💪✨
Two questions. Have you been running into ticks on the trail? Here in the midwest we have to be vigilant.
How is the hiking helping you with your breakup? We are here to support you should you need to vent. The open window is a cliche, but I found it to be the light that led me out of the wilderness of sadness. Looking back…drags you down. The trail ahead…very healing. My 2 cents.
Planning on being at Pinhoti Fest on Saturday, maybe I'll see you there. Keep crushing those miles Juliane😊
Curious George
Religion is created by people to make sense of what they don't understand. I have nothing against religion. It could be used for good or bad. The important thing is to treat others the way you would like to be treated and aim to do good.
Well said
It’s always been amazing/scary/frustrating that some feel like they can, or should, beat religion into someone! The reality is that in most cases they scare people away from the very thing they’re trying to impose! I’m Global Methodist and truly love that church and congregation! No sledgehammer evangelists there!
The heat kills my appetite.
I incurred the fear mongering aspect of religion in my youth. I was in my early teens (66 now) and sat there thinking this is such BS. Love and kindness is used as some kind of reward for believing and following the “rules”, instead of just a self inspired way to live your life. You are on the right track…or trail…if you will. 😊👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻
Ah... "us"... I don't recall you mentioning siblings before.
I probably missed the explanation but can you explain the ZERO bank account?
Banking miles to be used for a Zero Day.
Does your mother watch your videos? If yes, you’re killing her with this lack of eating. I’m not your mother and it’s killing me 🤪. I need to see you stuff a peanut butter and jelly sandwich down. 😁😜
2:38 Those triangular fruits are often called hitch hikers. They are the fruit of a Desmodium species of which there are many dozens. It's a pea plant, usually called Tick-trefoil or Tick clover. The plant is actually pretty beneficial. They nitrogenate the soil, as many pea family plants do, but they also repel insects and suppress plant root parasites like Witchweed. So, farmers often plants them around grain crops.
I am personally, a lake bagger😂...hike real hard and then jump in a freezing alpine lake...now that's life. Dang both you and Somewhere are machines! Even when I was in my 20's my max was 12 - 15...but I hated it. The most I have EVER done in a day is maybe 29...I got lost and at one point i thought just lay down in the middle of the trail. I don’t understand how you all hike so fast???
Sounds like dehydration to me. Not hungry, somewhat dizzy, etc
You might try reading some of CS Lewis's non fiction. Start with Mere Christianity, and then move on to others that are more topical. The Great Divorce is an allegory discussing heaven and hell. It's a lot less confrontational than your friend's dad. They are very readable, short, entertaining and understandable.
Howdy Juliana! I got on here to tell you about Hurricane Helena, But looking through the comments here I see you have many good friends warning you already! I have been following your adventures since this past May after I got off trail on the PCT! We met on your first day- my second! I was resting against a rock outcropping maybe 8 miles in, when you came chugging uphill to me. We had a nice little chat while you were waiting for Lil Chaps to catch up. I am so glad you made it the whole way! I am hopefully going to give it another try next year, but SOBO! Anyway I so much enjoy your charming personality and thoughts on life, people and the trail! Take care and be safe always, GREY BEAR
Hey Julianne, I really hope you are paying attention to the weather, you need to know Hurricane Helene is coming up thru the area you are in within the next 24 hours (Friday 9/27) and the impacts will be torrential rain, flooding of low areas and strong winds causing blowdowns. You need to get to a shelter quickly if you are not aware of this. I suspect you are already seeing rain and some wind today. This is a huge and powerful storm, please don’t think it’s nothing. I’m hoping someone has already messaged you about this and you are in a safe spot as your videos are 3? Days or so behind today. Let us know you are OK.
Not everyone who follows the commandments is a believer and vice versa. Enjoy your hike. Best wishes from Germany 😊
It's too bad about your friend's dad. God is a person and wants a relationship with us. Religion tries to change our behavior, where Jesus changes our hearts. Love is the motivating factor. ♥️
Zero appetite? I have found that when that happens, I haven't properly kept my water bottles as clean as I should. Certainly not filthy but still in need of a good cleaning.
People choose different paths its up to them. Our path was work hard retire at good age to enjoy with 4 monthly checks. You choose different path to free lancing it up to who your are. Plus the Lord is all mighty its in everything we are.
My great grandmother and great aunt came over in the early 1900's from Germany, and we are Lutheran.
The sunrise through the trees was spectacular! Thank you!
It is so interesting to me how one can have people like Boujee and your friend's dad in the same religion. I guess it less what we believe, than how we believe it.
Stay safe out there, RR.
Remember that Jesus said W to those who mow for fridge beers await them in heaven
2:38 impressive number of ride-alongs. Silk blazing and ride-alongs are annoying, but that was a glorious morning to be on trail.
You should do one video in German. 🎉
Go Roadrunner Go!
👟😎👍🏼
Eternity is a long time
There are Lutheran Churches in the US but they are uncommon. You need to eat!! Not sure why you don’t feel hungry. This hike is nowhere near the difficulty of the PCT so maybe thats part of it. Your mood does seem a bit up and down but still good. You are right on the edge of Eastern Time and Central Time, depends on which cell tower your phone picks up as to what time it is :)
Somewhere is a machine, maybe she’s not human? 😅 You do you, don’t try to compare to her. Have a nice evening, rest up, EAT and EAT in the morning too!
It must depend on the area of the country bc there are Lutheran churches all over the Midwest!
@@gretat1087 It does, the locations people who emigrated places like Germany and the Scandinavian countries settled have a lot of them. Other places not so much. I know of one tiny little Lutheran Church way out in the middle of nowhere in Texas that has a world class pipe organ as that’s what they had in the “old country” and the local Norwegian farmers wanted one to they got one shipped over! Funny how some traditions stay for generations/
@@bigdog2024 as the daughter of a Lutheran organist, I love this so much! :)
Thanks!
Thank you so much
@@hikingdancer you're welcome! Glad to have you in AL
LETS GO!

Thanks 🙏
There is only one way to Heaven and that is through the Blood of Jesus Christ. Once you are washed in the faith, the Holy Spirit is the greatest teacher of all.
Regarding “peak bagging”, I live in CO and feel exactly the same as you. I much prefer long distance hiking and biking to chasing vert. But two weeks ago I climbed two 14ers not too far from me because my Niece invited me. Grays and Torreys peaks are separated by a short saddle and most people hit them both. It was exhausting. One of the hardest things I’ve done. I hated it until I sumitted the second one. Exhilarating and so other-worldly up that high. I have to admit, I’m thinking of my next 14er. 🙄
Putzing is perfectly acceptable!
Growing up in Florida, we called those green sticky things “hitch hikers”. Doubly sticky on socks. You are a seed dispurser!
They are mowing it for hay. And as far as Baptists are concerned I have my own experience. They think they are the only ones going to heaven. Maybe they have their own exclusive heaven. And they can have it!
Big, big miles today no matter what state you are in! Praying for your safety through the storm. Remember: hide from the wind but run from the rain. Jesus doesn’t want anyone to be accept him because they were scared in to it. That is a choice you make from the heart. Know He loves you and is with you and you will figure out your own path.
Hilarious about the restaurant/Baptist story. Interesting that you were more accepted in school by the religious kids. My experience was that the 50% Mormons in my high school excluded kids that weren't Mormons. But the boys had no qualms about getting the non-Mormon girls pregnant 😅
Great conversation today RR. I have mixed feelings about religion and religious groups myself. I kind of agree with @yonderplace314 's comment. Anyway, and more importantly, I am concerned about your health. Or at least with the way you are describing your symptoms and the fact that you don't feel hungry. I'm no doctor, so all I can offer is for you to be careful, listen to your body, and as I know you would, do what's in the best interest of Julianne. Safe travels and happy trails! :)
Good morning how you doin, I got Internet on
Early bird gets the worm
You need the devil's lettuce to help you eat. Just saying, might help with the spiritualism too...
My son is agnostic. He just got back from climbing Mt.Fuji
He really embraced their culture. I was raised Baptist and left as I didn't agree with their teachings. I found Lutheran and felt it suited what I believe. There is no denominations in heaven. So follow what is good for you. There are good in any and bad in every "religion ". Its all about how its presented and interpreted, just like your experience
Stay safe.
