UPDATE the male body video is out :) 🙋♂️ th-cam.com/video/VUKd7BF8yC0/w-d-xo.html - Not sure why the colors did a big heck at the beginning but whatevs, here's this week's video! It's a bit longer than usual since I didn't want to speed things up to much, hope it still gets some watch time :0 Let me know what you thought of it? ALSO, have a good weekend, I forbid you from not having a good one.
Hey! Seeing a male body construction explained would be nice! I have already more or less mastered the female anatomy, but the structure of the male body is not yet understandable. An explanation in your style would help a lot. And thanks for the video, very helpful!
Really, of any channel, Marc is still the only one that I always look up for everytime I feel lost when drawing. He's always straight to the point, but still put some jokes to not make the video tense or too serious. Plus, as a non native english speaker and still learning, I always understand what he says 😂
I love how much of the pose I can feel right off the bat just looking at the shapes showing how the pads of the feet will sit. Pros indicate so much with so little!
Marc my man....that tip for defining the "fold" between the pelvis and the leg freaking blew my mind! That is something that's usually so hard to define beyond just practicing and building a visual library, but then you come and give us a roadmap! Thanks for the great videos and please make the male version!
Everytime I see your characters I always love them, the level of muscle tone 💪is always how I want my characters to be, they look cure or pretty but can still kick your ass ^_^
I kinda did this on accident. Sketched out my first female character a few days ago and used my own body as reference whenever I couldn't figure something out so she turned out... quite tomboyish and punchy but it fits! :D
@@mattdoesntknowwhattodowith5760 i have been at this point , felt like I wasn't improving at anything even with so much practice . It's more likely you're in your comfort zone and just practing drawing female anatomy . Go and try other forms of art or do other things so you can get out of this burnout . And when you get out of this phase just try techniques that work for you cause it's more likely that the techiques you use are ineffective.
just recently been getting back into drawing besides just doodles and chibis after about 12 years your guides have been godlike to help remember how to do proportions ect again thanks a bunch :D
I really love all the info and comedy i get from proko and marc brunet yt videos. One of the best teachers out here on youtube providing us with some free and fast information about art. Thank you marc , you're definitely one of those art teachers that im gonna brag about in the future as to where i learned some art information. It's very helpful to me since i am self taught. Constructing them this way definitely makes them seem more solid, and yet still not stiff at the same time. Ill try this out myself! And yes, one for men would be great!
I was actually quite surprised when I realized that the way I sketch bodies is similar to yours since most of what I know about anatomy is from simply just drawing and posing in front of the mirror, this was super helpful tho, I usually use overall shapes rather than adding lines and all that stuff so it was nice to notice how helpful they can be. I still kinda struggle with more complicated poses since I draw on my phone and getting a drawing tablet isn’t a option since I can’t afford one myself and parents aren’t supportive of my art.
Hey Marc! No idea if you'll see this but I've started in on ART School, and it's been a huge help for me, as a beginner artist. So thank you for giving us such a great way to learn.
Just finished Marc's full anatomy course on cube brush. Knowing all the major muscle groups, their proportions and functions helps immensely. Marc did an excellent job constructing his videos for that and everything seemed to click as I followed along. I would advise anyone who wants to get into character design to buy that course. Take your time and make detailed notes. Having this knowledge as a figure drawing artist is priceless. Thank you Marc!!
Just discovered your channel after many long years of not drawing, and it's been the perfect place to start back up! I was never good at anatomy, but your guides have really helped me improve
absolutely in love with this. thank you so much man!! Was sketching something late at night yesterday and realized that despite all my years practice, I still didn't have a good grasp on anatomy and it made me feel really beaten down. This video helps a lot, simply using the term "constructing" as a descriptor of drawing anatomy has helped put into perspective what I need to focus on when drawing, and the small details I always admire in art but never know how to do myself, guess what! they're right here, explained to me in a way I can understand and build upon. I'll be sure to refer back to this video when I try revising that late-night sketch. Much love to you!!!
The last time I drew was already 10 years ago. I had stopped because I had no motivation anymore, as others always said that I couldn't make money with it and I had to focus on work. I then felt more and more depressed. Now I have discovered your videos and you have inspired me to draw again. Thanks to you, I have regained motivation and am finally learning a good technique for drawing characters. Finally, I can even draw hands and feet. Although you should already have a bit of knowledge to understand the TH-cam videos, but they help me a lot. Thank you very much for that.
Thank you so much!! You made a video exactly what I expected because I'd been searching a video like this ince I started drawing this year and I found that your video is the clearest way of explaining how to 'UNDERSTAND' the construction, not just how to 'DRAW' it. I learned from your videos a lot. :)
Seriously, this so much easier than any other artist tutorials videos thus far. I want to be an artist on my own free time not to put out and display. My eventual objective is to make my art into a game. There's just not a lot of good games these days.
I don't know why, but I can't draw proportions starting from the head. Whenever I start sketch from drawing a head, I almost every time end up screwing the proportions in relation. Everything else is (relatively) fine, but the head ends up being too big or too small, so I have to redraw it as it never was there. For me, it feels much easier to draw a body first and then add a head of whatever size fits. Is it a bad habit, and if yes, what consequences I may have and how would you recommend to fix it?
Maybe, just maybe your character or person will be thinking faster from the heart, making him/her more sensitive and emotional! Because of the body that is developed first :P
Maybe you can start by literally copying and pasting the head on the side 7 times or whatever proportions you wanna have on your drawing so is easier to relate the body parts, after a while the proportions get internalized and it became second nature
A male version would be absolutely dope, also, if youre able to show more of how this recipe applies to bodies in perspective that would be awesome too. Thanks for the videos!
You motivated me to learn about anatomy. The structure of bones and muscles is such a beautiful thing and it's not only good to understand in general but it would obviously make me a better drawer which will ultimately allow me to broaden my abilities further. Thanks a lot.
I've been watching some of your tutorial videos and oh boy they helped me improved a lot. My works still doesn't look good tbh but I can safely say they looks better than what I've been doing before I got hooked up with your videos. A thousand thanks to you good sir.
This has been really helpful for me! For a while i felt like the way i drew females and how i constructed them just felt off in some way. Thank you for this wonderful video!
I have to say you make studying your style so easy its fantastic. I also feel like you genuinely take ideas from your comments , having requested you show how you simplify your anatomy in the comments of your last video , I feel like this video was in direct response so thank you. As someone who started learning anatomy 6 months ago , I've only finished the upper torso , upper arm and back. Studying each part requires a lot of practice and study , I know I'm rambling on but the way I study is I take poses and gestures online and draw the figure out then add in the muscles that I know over it and see how they behave. So this video is fantastic cause Marc is doing the same thing using his construction methods. Cannot wait to see your next video and though I was on the fence about investing in your online course ive firmly landed on the side of when I have the money im buying it. Thanks again
this has been incredibly helpful to me already, especially around the lower torso. Also the method you use with the ellipse to place the forearm is super handy, I find it way easier to imagine the shape of the upper forearm wrapping around it than what I was doing previously. Thanks for this! If you do a male version I'm definitely checking it out.
I have tried many courses and tutorials for drawing poses and none of them where effective. But literally just watching your video and drawing along I learned so much about anatomy and body more than any course. I almost cant believe this was the most effective way for me to draw. The art you do is perfect to copy the structure off from as its dynamic and focuses on parts I never understand how people get to.
Now I understand this might get lost in the sea of comments, but I wanted to thank you so much Marc, thanks to this guide my passion for drawing is starting to be reignited. I had a wobbly foundation, and I was trying to cook a gourmet meal without a recipe as someone who has cooked cereal his entire life. This has helped me so much get back into drawing and start saying once again that drawing is fun. So thank you so so so much for making content like this. :)
IT WAS WAYYY TOO HELPFUL. But really, its much better than ,,box” method that i used :) its easier and i get everything right. I watched your tutorials on faces, anatomy etc. but you cut it short because of a lack of interest from your audience so I was not expecting that video. Super happy, thanks Marc :D

Thanks for this! Really appreciate how you formed the ellipses and using that as guides for hands, elbows, and feet. Was struggling on those concepts and especially body formation, Im more of a face drawer and beginning to draw body to expand my variety. Gonna continue watching more of your vids!
Thank you so much. It's like you found the sweet spot between structure and simplicity in your construction. Yes! More of this, please. A male version would be great. But most of all.... Most of all.... More of this with a lot of examples with foreshortening, if it's not too much trouble, please. This was awesome. Thanks again.
As a beginner this seems very helpful as a plus for drawing from reference, especially if you want to tweak something here and there. I love your lineart btw. :)
This was super helpful! I usually start with the torso and don’t mark things like the belly button and hips. I’m still novice at drawing people and would like to get better to make characters. Are there any anatomy resources you recommend? There’s a lot of books and other things out there, but I’m not sure what’s the best to learn from for art.
Very helpful as always! (Watching your video’s is almost a daily routine now haha, i grab a coffee and a piece of chocolate, sit down and enjoy while learning new things
do you think you can do a whole video on hands, and the construction of them? this was super helpful as an artist who knows basic anatomy, but didn't know the best way to apply that knowledge to draw it fluidly like you did! thanks!

Thanks for this! Really appreciate how you formed the ellipses and using that as guides for hands, elbows, and feet. Was struggling on those concepts and especially body formation, Im more of a face drawer and beginning to draw body to expand my variety. Gonna continue watching more of your vids!
This video is really nice! Appreciate your dedication into helping us become better artists:)
This stuff is gold, my sketches are looking better already. Thanks alot mate!!
This could be the single most helpful drawing tutorial I've ever watched
love the exploding edits
The hip part is a godsend! The most confusing thing solved easily.. Thank you!!
Ngl these construction explained videos helped me to level up my anatomy game. Thank you!
I came for a drawing lesson, and i got an anatomy lesson as a bonus. Ty, Marc! Beautifull work as always btw.
Yes please, male version too! I like the way you teach!!
This was very lovely and informative, thank you
a male version of this would go along nicely in my opinion, thanks for this awsome tutorial
do you think you can do a whole video on hands, and the construction of them? this was super helpful as an artist who knows basic anatomy, but didn't know the best way to apply that knowledge to draw it fluidly like you did! thanks!
