For me it’s the opposite as when I started in my younger years I started with drawing females and then branch off to draw males. My males at first get mistaken for females because it is essentially that but modified

For me male body come off easier for than female. But female body or faces is way difficult for me besides drawing buildings and etc.

I really needed this. My major problem with drawing is mentally I refuse to use form lines to define the shape of the figure. I can outline just fine it's just the inner structure to put in the details that's holding me back. It's the missing piece I need to reach my full potential. Thanx!

hello! I still really liked this vid and it was pretty helpful for me, but could we get a future video that covers thicker body types as well? Your really good at teaching and drawing thicker forms with different fat distributions is a whole different thing and I think that would be a really helpful vid.
I still have your old Gnomon DVD and I go back to it everytime I need to review basic mannequin figures. That being said I noticed that the way you mannequinize the figure changed quite a bit from back then. Its honestly really cool to watch how even pros end up changing and optimizing their skills over time. Been really enjoying the content on your channel man!

Okay I've been studying art books and courses since the early 80s and this is the first time I see the basic male and female figures portrayed as the same height.

He wasn’t illustrating height proportionate to each other, he was showing how the relative human proportions are the same.
@@namelessjedi2242 I have literally hundreds of books on the subject, including a complete original set of the legendary Famous Artists course from the 60s (given to me by my father; I'm third generation professional artist), all of Hogarth's books, and many more modern ones, and NONE of those have ever portrayed a basic male and basic female fgure next to each other as the same height to show "how the relative human proportions are the same". This is political correct insanity sneaking into the craft of draftsmanship too. But, nice try, I guess. (Let me venture another guess: you love the Disney Star Wars "trilogy".)
@@kentjensen4504 I understand you’re a professional artist that’s been working for decades, but this isn’t politically correct or some shit. It’s just making it simpler. Why take several gaps in reference between the male and female body when learning to draw them. Keep them the same so you understand them in relation to each other then draw the heights differing once you understand the figure. Stop making it into a culture war.
That's really helpful for me. I'm drawing X-23 and I always struggle a little with the female proportions and to make it look good.

Great video, good examples and a lot of explaining, thanks but I hardly have seen women with legs that long and hips that small (a little detail) but as I said. I can't draw like you and learned quite a bit thanks for sharing.
