Hi there guys, my husband and I just found you a few weeks ago and have been loving your videos. It is so encouraging and refreshing to see the male and female Godly perspective on a lot of your topics and so we wanted to request a video on how you guys talk to your boys about purity. The fact that your kids being so YOUNG were able to open up to you guys about how they either looked away quickly or looked for a little longer when they saw those girls with little clothes was just so beautiful to us. We would love to hear how you guys plant that seed on them and present those subjects to them in this time where promiscuity is found EVERYWHERE! We would love to hear how your husband specifically is able to relate to them in that sense as well as how you play a role as their mother on relating to them afar from displaying modesty in your own home.
Must read: Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss. Also if you haven’t read Missionary Stories with the Millers the whole family would love that one.
Books that deeply challenged me this year: Bruchko by Bruce Olson (19 year old missionary to indigenous tribe in Columbia), the Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom (WWII Holland), and Gladys Aylward autobiography (British missionary woman to unreached villages in China). Next on my list: Kisses for Katie (18 year old from Nashville becomes adoptive mother to 13 girls in Uganda).
Thanks so much for these reckos! I’m so appreciative of your guys content as a Christian planning our lives ahead with my husband here in London England! Gentle and Lowly has been such a fave of mine for so long (I think I saw it on your list of reckos though wherever you keep your book list!) super helpful for someone much further back in our journey but up for doing things differently to our peers in the UK if we think we have found something better for everyone. X
Summer is my season to refresh and get ready to jump into homeschool again... so my top two reads from the past couple of months have been The Life Giving Parent by Clay and Sally Clarkson, and Homeschool Bravely by Jamie Erickson.
The Convivial Homeschool: Gospel Encouragement for Keeping Your Sanity While Living and Learning Alongside Your Kids by Mystie Winckler is definitely a must-read for the homeschooling parent. It is thought-provoking, insightful, and well-written. Love your book reviews!
MUST READ ALERT 😂 I’m currently reading The Unseen Realm by Dr Michael Heiser and WOW I will never read my Bible the same! Thank you guys for your recommendations! ❤
Regarding Dracula, if you're ever up for it, watching the old black and white movies is super fun. I watched Dracula, Frankenstein, etc. in the old black and white versions with my grandparents as a kid and it is still a favorite memory of mine. There is just something about those old classic films that is so different and special from modern cinema.
As a math teacher my must read is definitely How I Wish I’d Taught Maths from Craig Barton. At 535 pages it is quite a read, but it’s so worth it. Barton combines research with his own classroom experience. I don’t know to what capacity his insights are also useful for homeschooling, but he definitely changed the way in which I teach.
Have you guys read Cliff Grahams books? Day of War and it’s sequel? Ohhhh mannn!! Total MUST READ!! and even better- I listened to it on audible with THE BEST EVER NARRATORS!!🙌🙌
If you'd like to continue your reading of classical education theory and history, I suggest "Consider This" by Karen Glass. It has been the most impacting classical education book I have read thus far in our homeschooling journey. I highly recommend!
Yay! ❤ Great video! Here are some recommendations from me: Shepherding a Child's Heart, Knowing God, Sweeter by the Dozen by Hekman, Gentle and Lowly and From Transgender to Transformed. ❤
I also loved Real Food for Pregnancy during my last pregnancy!! Book that changed my life and made me love my Savior even more-The Insanity of God by Nik Ripken If you like radical books I highly recommend Rosaria Butterfield’s two books “Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert” and “The Gospel Comes With a House key” An amazing conversion story that’s a quick read-Unlikely Fighter by Greg Stier Books to better your marriage-Cherish by Gary Thomas and Reading Your Male by Mary Farrar
I love you guys so much and thank you so much for your content! I felt shocked seeing you in short shorts 😬didn't expect that with regard to modesty :/ but anyways, you're amazing and your content is so major enriching. I consume it daily. Thank you so much! X
Sorry, I should add, the reason I bought up the modesty thing is because I found it really distracting . I just felt like I kept looking and so just didn't finish the video.
Katie was spot on about "Heart of Darkness"! I was an English major in college and had to read that book and "decipher" its meaning. So yes, it is a high school or college read. It was so dense that I found it challenging, speaking as someone who has read literature from many different time frames! Thank you for doing this video! I really believe that all Christians should be readers :)
I added some books on my list now.... Here are some reccomendations: Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney; I'm that girl by Pearl Barnett and Serene Allison; Homeschooling with a meek and quiet spirit by Teri Maxwell; Lord, Change me by Evelyn Christenson.
Great video! The books I’ve loved is “Resilient”, by John Eldridge, “Love Does” and “Everybody Always” by Bob Goff and recently I am reading “Experiencing God”, by Henry T. Blackaby.
Two classic fiction books I love and have read over and over is Freckles and The Keeper of the Bees by Gene Stratton-Porter. Also, The Reverend Spy by David P. Denton, the true story of a pastor who became a spy in WWII. I read that one to my 10-12 year old boys Sunday School Class and it captivated them.
MUST READ ALERT: To Train Up a Child Such an excellent book on child training!! This book has changed my parenting. Im remaining calm and giving a consequence the first time every time and staying consistent and my kids are learning to obey the first time. I'm being the mama I want to be and I feel like my relationship with my kids is even better than before. This book is right up your alley, if you haven't already read it. Excellent bibical basis and helps parents understand the heart implications. I can't recommend it enough. I'm not even halfway through yet, but im confident the rest will still be amazing. Bonus, its short and for me its been such an easy read! I just dont have much time to read, so its been taking me awhile
I'm interested in this book. Could you please share the authors name. Several books showed-up with this or similar titles. Thanks so much and God bless!
Providence by John piper is one of those MUST READS. Also any of Arnold fruchtenbaums books will really enhance your understanding of scripture in its PROPER context
Two of my favorite “oldie, but goodie” fiction books are Laddie and Michael O’Halleran, both by Gene Stratton-Porter. So many powerful life lessons through her stories! A newer one I loved is I’ve Seen the End of You by W. Lee Warren One that hugely impacted the way I thought (I read it as a teen) was In the Shadow of Plenty by George Grant.
Katie, have you heard of Lamplighter books? Mark Hamby takes old books that are out of print and reprints then. They are from the 1700 and 1800's. They are beautifully bound books, and have Biblical principles throughout. Some have scripture throughout also.
A book I recently read that made me feel shocked and shaken up is 'The Making of Biblical Womanhood'. Made me rethink and rediscuss the whole foundation of our marriage and my (F) self-image, can highly recommend if you want a broader, longer historical view (specifically 9th-15th century) on christian womanhood! I don't agree with all of her conclusions, but highly appreciate the broadened view and re-evaluation that it brought.
Guys! Go read Total Truth by Nancy Pearcey! She is so so good. She also just came out with the Toxic War on Masculinity which I haven't read but looks amazing.
The books that have changed my life in that kind of way were written by Zac Poonen. They are free soft copies on CFC India but I’m sure there is a way to email the church to get a hard copy. For Katie I would suggest one written by his wife Annie Poonen "Encouragement to Mothers" and "God made Mothers". Currently starting "God’s work done in God’s way".
Random question, but where did you guys get your couch? It's beautiful! Also, thank you for these videos! I love getting insights into what to read next. I few of my favorites have been: Positive Discipline by Jane Nelson & The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families by Stephen Covey 😊
Such good recommendations, thank you so much. I highly recommend "Essentialism" and "Effortless" both by Greg McKeown. Such good books talking about the use of energy and time in our lives, how pursuing less will give us more fulfilment and how keeping things simple is usually the best policy in order to achieve what we want.
Another reason to supplement despite an attempt at good nutrition is if your food is not well sourced. I'd like to seek out better sources (ones that grow in healthy soil for produce, or have space and clean living conditions for livestock).
The Techwise Family and its sequel are on Audible Premium for free! Just downloaded. Added so many others to my wishlist! Currently listening to Middlemarch, have you read that one Katie?
I definitely struggle with the technology thing, but having a dad who grew up with zero tech and then basically went the opposite and bought all the tech as an adult. So we definitely kind of do a balance and give them some screen time, rather than none. Our oldest is 13 though.
Books that changed how I do things: - Boost Your Brain: The New Art and Science Behind Enhanced Brain Performance by Majid Fotuhi - Chronotherapy: Resetting Your Inner Clock to Boost Mood, Alertness, and Quality Sleep by Michael Terman Eye opening and kind of disturbing: - Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini Just for fun books: - The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines - Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
The Hidden Price of Greatness by Ray Beeson and Ranelda Mack Hundicker is a fun and encouraging book of “hero stories.” I would also love to hear your review on the book Increasing Your Personal Capacity by Eddie Windsor.
Hi guys, I watched this video a couple weeks ago but didn't write a comment. However, it bothered me so much that I didn't recommend to you two very important, life-changing books. I found myself even thinking about it while in bed. So I figured God was telling me, it's necessary to go back to the video and recommend the books. They are Education and Child Guidance. The author is Ellen White, she is the most translated American author of all time. In the words of Paul Harvey (who was a big fan of her writings, just like Dr. James Dobson and others): “Ellen G. White. Don't know her? Get to know her.” I pray these books are as transformative to you as they've been to me. God bless!
I too love your book videos. I heard of this one the other day, Dawn the Minimal Mom recommended it. She said it was life changing. "Goodbye Things" by Fumio Sasaki
Ishmael and Self-Raised by E.D.E.N. Southworth, from Lamplighter Publishing, as well as The Secret Bridge by Amy Le Feuvre. Ishmael and the sequel, Self-Raised, were excellent stories of perseverance, mercy and second chances, and how we can be resolved to do the right thing at all costs. The Secret Bridge gives an excellent recipe for growing in Christ step by step, precept upon precept, with many scripture references throughout, and all the while telling an excellent, fictional tale with mystery and intrigue.
The Other Half of Church by Jim Wilder and Michael Hendricks not only points out the structural problems of the American Christian church, but also offers solutions I haven't heard anywhere else
Easton Press has a couple of subscription options that offer reduced pricing, but is not exclusively a subscription service. They produce very high quality printing (leather with 22k gold inlay) and offer many signed collectors editions with beautiful illustrations. The primary draw (speaking for myself) is that when I see them on my shelf I feel significantly wealthier and more sophisticated than I actually am. Goodness knows what might happen if I actually took one down and read it!
It would be neat to see a review of the. The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. I know you guys arent Mormon. But I wonder what you would think about other scripture stories of Chirst.
I would recommend Les Miserables, my favorite book ❣️Jane Eyre is good and Pride and Prejudice is good. John Adams is excellent by David McCollough. I would stay away from dark books and new age philosophy books that can be dangerous to our souls. Dare to Disipline by James Dobson is good. May Yeshua bless your family❣️🥰💕🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️

I love these book review videos! I would also like to hear more about these “free days” in the future.🤗
I’m so happy to hear that you guys would like to write a book. Please do! I will buy it as soon as it comes out!

That one was pretty life changing for my husband also and it’s definitely very enlightening for most of us.
I really enjoy the videos you guys make! Please make a birth vlog for baby #5. I loved watching the last one! I'm due with baby #1 in October
Congratulations, I pray you have a safe delivery.

I just heard about that 10x book! Glad to hear your review on it!
I love the reflection on ‘10x is easier than 2x’. “What is the NET WIN” is the question to ask!
12 ways your phone is changing you! Very convicting and good!
"The Matter with Things" is a lengthy piece, but it's certainly worth the read!

We read excerpts from Heart of Darkness in Gothic film and literature class! You are right haha we analyzed it endlessly.
I love hearing your book recs! I bet yall would love the book Tiny Habits. A reread for me! Habits of the Household was a good audio listen.
I love Kristin Hannah’s the great alone and the four winds! A non fiction pack of knowledge is how not to die!

You two are amazing!! I want to know do you enjoy listening to books or actually reading them with your eyes? Which do you find most beneficial?
Katie, have you heard of Lamplighter books? Mark Hamby takes old books that are out of print and reprints then. They are from the 1700 and 1800's. They are beautifully bound books, and have Biblical principles throughout. Some have scripture throughout also.
Yes, I agree. Lamplighter books are amazing!!
I heard Katie reference the Lamplighter books in a different video they uploaded, but what of them she has read weren't mention. :)
Been patiently waiting on this one!
Book that changed my parenting “simplicity parenting” by David Elkind. And also a great outdoor kids book “balanced and barefoot” by Angela Hanscom
Would love to buy a book from you too. Keep up the amazing videos

I'm currently reading the Marvelous Pigness of Pigs, by Joel Salatin. He's a farmer in the Shenandoah Valley of VA. Highly recommend! 👍

Nurturing the Nations by Darrow L. Miller
Haven’t read it in years but it is one that fired me up. I think it’s time to pick it up again.
Of Marriage and Family Life by St. John Chrysostom is an amazing read! I'm reading it with my church parish book club.
Book reviews are some of my favorite videos you do! woohoo
Essentialism by Greg McKeown is one I’ve read over and over because it’s so good. His new book, Effortless, is good, too.
I agree with essentialism being good
