I bought the aqua sky 2.0 a couple months ago and have been struggling to find a good explanation of how it works since. I finally stumbled on this video You're an absolute lifesaver. Turns out I had all the colors turned up way too high for a 10 gallon tank. I'm following your advice now and hopefully the algae problems are a thing of the past. Thanks again!
Started watching and in meantime I was doing other stuff… had to turn it off, I need a notepad, cofeee and fully focus on your videos :) Will study all three so I can get most of my Aquasky Thank you Bentley!

I just found this video and watched Part 1. Thank you so much! I've had the Aquasky 2.0 for a few years on my 46 gal bow front and could not figure out how to use the light to it's full potential. I love the features of the light, but have been kind of so-so on brightness, etc. I'm setting up another tank - 20 gal long and decided to try to find a different light. I may give the Aquasky another try on the new tank. I only have low to medium light plants so hopefully light will be strong enough for plants without growing algae - that I can grow really well!
Dude. Exact same situation. 46 bow front, couple of years, and not really knowing what to do Brantley - those screenshots were money. I'm trying to rehab my wife's planted tank as a noob. Your video was exactly what I needed.

I could use some advice regarding my Fluval Aquasky Upgrade. I have a 75-gallon Juwel tank that has two T5 LED lights Day and Nature LED tubes that have the lighting unit separating a bit like a plastic chunk of brick wall between them. I have done the retro fit on one side with the Aquasky but have found the light looks unbalanced and dimmer. I was thinking shall I put another Aquasky on the other side, too. The Juwel tubes were rated at 29 watts, each tube. This Aquasky is rated at 30 watts, I only have one, so only half the lighting capacity as before. Should I try and get another Aquasky for the other side? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Thanks for the tips....Just bought the 32.5 fluval and picked up the additional light. Should I use the same gameplan s the one on the video or dial it back. Keep you posted. Let's go!
It depends on the plants you're keeping. If you have mostly easier low demand plants, then I would dial both lights back a little bit. Especially if you already have the light set a little higher in intensity. But if you already have the lights set pretty low and all the plants are doing good and you haven't really had many algae issues then you're probably okay setting the second light at the same setting.
@@BentleyPascoe thanks again. The video is great. Again, I have the 2nd LED light, from your video I dialed them both back at the start : Red 30 Green 25 Blue 5 White 40 .....2 hrs sunrise 4 hrs daylight 1 hr sunset....Sunrise - sunset are the sames, raised daylight to 4:30 and currently sit at Red 40 Green 33 Blue 7 White 50 ....Water and first plants went in 12/1. Clycled from 12/18 - 1/7.....Tank looks great and is healthy. To be honest not sure how difficult or easy the plants I have in the tank are. What would be your guidance on end game for max lighting with me having 2 LED's? The Red 60 Green 50 Blue 10 White 70 you recommend or dial it bak with 2 LED's to something like Red 50 Green 44/45 Blue 8/9 White 60? Thanks for your help! Dan
@Bentley Pascoe thanks a ton, I'll dial everything back alittle. Right now I'm using the new tank settings you spoke about, as it is in fact a new tank. 👌
Fairly new to modern lighting. I have a Fluval shaker 168l (44 US gal). With the original light (Fluval Aquasky 2) I found the arc of the light left some areas of the tank permanently in shade, so I bought another and fitted one at the back and one at the front. Watching your excellent tutorials, I realise that this may have been more because what I wanted to see, rather than what was best for the plants. So, what would be your advice for the light settings for this set up. I have a large variety of different plant (I can list them if needed), and would value an expert opinion :)
@@davidlewis2068 due to the shaker's height, I would likely set both lights in auto mode. 1.5 hour long sunrise and sunset, then 6 hours of daylight set to: white 75%, blue 5%, red 55%, green 45% and monitor for a couple weeks. If we're seeing a lot of algae (this should be mostly surface/dust algae) we would want to dial it back a little. No algae? Stay the course and keep monitoring plants health.
It would depend on the tank you're putting them on. I would probably reduce the power a little bit on each because you are using two lights and where they overlap would be really intense. So something like if we're running whites at 100%, I might dial it back to 75% to start and kind of monitor to see how the tank handles that extra light. If we're not seeing any algae, we could bump it up a little bit more if we feel we need it. But if everything's going great we just leave it there. Hope that helps!
Bought AquaSky 530mm to replace my T5 tubes. Had algae issue with these old lights. I’ve just taken my blue light right down thanks to your advice. Really informative. Looking forward to seeing my plants flourish under the new lighting, subscribed for the next instalment. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻🇬🇧
I have a Fluval Spec 5. the light it came with was creating algae all the time. i tried reducing the time it was on but that kinda sucks. so i put the smallest Aquasky on it and tried your setting suggestions and WoW! i love it . reducing the blue is the secret. my plants are happy and no algae. tyvm imo if you have C02 then get the Plant 3.0 if you have a simple setup i’d say the Aquasky is the ticket Fluval Rocks!!!!!
It doesn't have a mode that's specifically cycles through them, but you could set something in pro mode in order to cycle through the colors if you wanted to
Can I use this light to encourage algae growth in my tank? I have a 75 gallon tropheus tank with lots of rock work. And I really want algae to grow on the rocks, for aesthetic purposes and to give the tropheus something to munch on. Great video
Really like your video! I have 32.5 gallon Fluval flex tank, initially bought a plant 3.0 led light. But realize it maybe strong for my low tech plants ( although I do really like it and wanna keep it). Would 2 Aquasky 2.0 enough even for my reddish plants Rotala me Ludwigia repens/palustris, and red sword plants ? Thanks!
Great guide I just took down one of my 5g that has the smallest version aquasky! I set up a new large tank and needed to cut back down to 3 tanks. I grew a pretty nice Monte Carlo carpet in that 5g without co2 thanks to the aquasky
Hi. I have a 55 gallon tank. I don't raise plants. I have almost all synodontis catfish, including several rare ones - pardalis, hemisynodontis, brichardi, angelicus and multipunctatus - with some clown loaches and a black ghost. I used to have an ecoxotica strip light with a remote control so I could switch between, white or purple, or red or blue light. It was beautiful. The fish were happy and my granddaughter loved picking her color of the day. After five years, the light died and the company is gone. Can you suggest a similar light for me?
If you want a remote controlled light finnex has a few varieties in their 24/7 line that do well and have various color options. I believe Hygger has something similar as well.
I bought this light for my 36 gallon bowfront saltwater tank. Would you have some settings for a FOWLR tank Bentley? I bought it at Petsmart and they highly recommended this light for my tank. I’d really appreciate it bud!!!
@@BentleyPascoe thanks bud! Petsmart told me not to go with the Marine because it was designed mainly for corals/and growth of them. Where I’m just live rock and fish with no corals at all. So red and green won’t cause algae? I appreciate your help bud. I just see some people asking in the comments about saltwater tanks with this light. Maybe **Hint hint**you could do a video on saltwater as your obviously good at keeping tanks. Your tank is awesome!
Hi Bentley, love your videos. I'm hoping you can help me.....I picked up an Aquasky for my 65 gallon Bowfront, used the settings you recommended for my crypts, anubias plants and now I have a BBA over growth. I've taken some pics and a screenshot of my settings. Can you give me some advice please?
Been looking forward to this review! Have two Aquasky lights, one on a 55 gal, one on a 28 gal bow front. The 55 has co2, the 28 no co2. Have been testing settings for past year, both lights at same settings during testing. Indeed have found blue light with increased percentage to cause more algae, especially BBA. Funny though, with decreased blue light, have had a steady diet of BBA to the tank with co2. Not a lot, but enough to annoy. Plant growth has been steady and equal to both tanks. Mainly crypts, anubias, sword and java fern. Now waiting to see what further you have to say over next couple of videos!
Would it be safe for my fish and plants to add a second light? I have a 36 gallon bow front the light i have has about 4 inches of space on both sides i noticw my plants grow inwards towards the center. I wanted to add a light and off set them to clear the gap is this safe or too much lighting???
Thanks a lot for the tips. I have a 55G with angel fish, German blue Rams, and kribensis. I have the aquasky and love it. My plants are Java fern, Anubias,, Amazon sword,Vallisneria,Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus, Windelov Java fern and a red dwarf lily. Would jumping up to the Plant 3.0 be a waste of money or a major benefit for those plants. I use easy green and root tabs. No co2. Should I add CO2?
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks for the advice. Always had live plants in my tanks but never got involved with CO2. It sort of scared me I would mess something up and kill my fish but feeling more confident
I am using the first setting on my 20 gallon tall. I would like some moonlighting for an hour or so before shut off. Does color matter? Blue, red, purple? I don’t want to promote any more algae growth.
Did you update the light's firmware? When you select the light, in the upper right corner you'll see three dots, look for an update there. If that doesn't work, I would contact Fluval
The aquasky was the first aquarium light I bought when getting back into the hobby. It ended up on a 20 tall, and it's absolutely perfect for the anubias, corkscrew Vals, Java fern, bacopa, crypts, and piles and piles of marimo moss. My crypts do awesome in there with inert gravel. Great overview as always Bentley.
Hi Bentley, first I want to thank you for all the time you have spent putting your guides together for us. Maybe I am blind but I cannot see any info on how to import some saved light profiles into my aquasky. There must be a way to do this otherwise saving the profiles isn't of any use. Take care and hope to hear your wise words sir.
I think I understand now. Just watched your Part 2 video again and once I have a save as profile saved it is actually on my phone. Then if I hit the export button it will export it from my phone to the light. Brilliant...not I though 🙂
Hello, I've recently changed to the fluval 3.0 and within 2 days I'm starting to show signs of BBA I'm running the light at 45-50% power for 2 hours a day and having lights gradually coming on from 12 - 3 45-50% power for 2 hours then gradually coming back down until 10pm any advice? Thanks
Were you running your lights for such a short period before? Is the tank planted? What size is the tank? How long has the tank been running? What light did you use before?
@@BentleyPascoe thanks for the reply been running my lights for 10hrs previously heavly plants, 29 gallon, tank is round 7 months old, the light I was using was the 1 that came with the tank all I can tell you was it was 29 watt slimline LED light, I think my problem could of been an imbalance for a few days my co2 defusser needed cleaning now I have that fine mist back everything looks to be heading back in the right direction also I had the light running at 70% where I ment to have it at 60% that's helped massively I think 🤔
If you're using purely low light plants, one should suffice so Anubias, crypts, Java fern, etc. If you more reliably want to hit like the medium level of light I would use two or one plant 3.0.
@@BentleyPascoe awesome! Thank you for the reply! Looking into mostly low/medium light plants. Also want to make sure the tank is covered front to back! :)
@@BentleyPascoe should I be able to run both at full power eventually? I’ll go by your guide and experiment from there! Love the comment, thanks for being so active in the community.
Can you put two of these on one schedule so they act as word light instead of having to set them up individually I can’t seem to find how to do it in the app I hope this makes sense I can’t be the only person having this issue
It depends on how brightly lit you're looking to make the tank and if you have certain plants in there. If plants are a little more high like demanding then you might want something more like the plant 3.0 as far as power is concerned. Or you would need multiple aquasky lights.
Loved the review video!! Would this still be your recommended light for a Java Fern, Anubias, and Crypt grow out with CO2? It would be on a 40 gallon breeder, so not sure if I should just go with the plant for coverage or if Aquasky will have the same effect

The last half hour is just blue. I'm happy with the results and I haven't yet had a large outbreak of algea, although I have noticed a few new spots starting to form hence the slight reduction. I've just planted some new crypts, hair grass, saggitaria and vallisnerias, I'm looking forward to seeing how they do, I know that hairgrass likes high light. Great vid btw like these instructional vids you make keep them coming
If you're getting good results from the beamswork, don't change it. If you want more control, the Aquasky is great for lower light demand, but if you ever plan to have slightly more demanding plants, save for the Plant 3.0
I have duel Aquasky’s on my 123 Flex. Finally got the algae somewhat under control. Been waiting for this video series for a long time. How do they do with red plants?
I have (4) of these lights of different sizes.saves having those old timers that used to tick away.great vid.definitely just about to turn my Blue down as mine are running 100% on my planted tanks..steve (ENGLAND DEVON)
I like the light. but what really bugs me. the light sits to close to the water level and the reach of the light doesn't cover the bottom of the tank front to back. and the front of my tank is a bit dark. so I don't get the colours of my fish when they come up to the front of the tank. it would be awesome if there was an extension to lift the light a bit higher from the top of the tank. I've a 40 gallon tank.
I am upgrading my 5.5g standard tank to a 12gallon long rimless. 36”x9.5”x8.5” I had a plant nano on the 5.5g running like 25%-35% area. Debating on buying another one, raising them higher on their mounts and cranking them up a bit. 2-3 nanos or one aqua sky for this?
It depends on the light requirement of the plants you're putting in there. If you have plans that require higher light than I think you would be better served with the nanos. If the plants are using really only require something like low or medium light, then save yourself the money and just get one aqua sky.
@@BentleyPascoe ended up getting a used nano off eBay for $40 to pair up with my other nano. May grab a 3rd for better coverage but starting with 2 nanos 12” apart

Do your setting stay the same if you add a second Aquasky 2.0 ?
So both lights are equal ?
It would depend on the tank you're putting them on. I would probably reduce the power a little bit on each because you are using two lights and where they overlap would be really intense. So something like if we're running whites at 100%, I might dial it back to 75% to start and kind of monitor to see how the tank handles that extra light. If we're not seeing any algae, we could bump it up a little bit more if we feel we need it. But if everything's going great we just leave it there. Hope that helps!
Thanks
It’s a 75 freshwater
Settings are per your video
White 100
Red and green 85 and 75 blue at 10
Bought AquaSky 530mm to replace my T5 tubes. Had algae issue with these old lights. I’ve just taken my blue light right down thanks to your advice. Really informative. Looking forward to seeing my plants flourish under the new lighting, subscribed for the next instalment. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻🇬🇧
I have a Fluval Spec 5. the light it came with was creating algae all the time. i tried reducing the time it was on but that kinda sucks. so i put the smallest Aquasky on it and tried your setting suggestions and WoW! i love it . reducing the blue is the secret. my plants are happy and no algae. tyvm
imo if you have C02 then get the Plant 3.0
if you have a simple setup i’d say the Aquasky is the ticket
Fluval Rocks!!!!!
Enjoyed the intro. Thx.😊
I have one, really like it. Does it have a auto color changing mode? I keep pressing the circle at the bottom right and it just dims the light.
Great video
You might want something more powerful for the tank size if the goal is algae.
@@BentleyPascoeokay, gotcha. Thanks for the tip
Thanks!
I think so
Great guide I just took down one of my 5g that has the smallest version aquasky! I set up a new large tank and needed to cut back down to 3 tanks. I grew a pretty nice Monte Carlo carpet in that 5g without co2 thanks to the aquasky
Mate I don't know how to turn the brightness up on the light?
Im using the app on my phone but I don't see a Brightness button?
Thanks for the great video, gives me something to get started with
Can't wait for part 2
I bought this light for my 36 gallon bowfront saltwater tank. Would you have some settings for a FOWLR tank Bentley? I bought it at Petsmart and they highly recommended this light for my tank. I’d really appreciate it bud!!!
Push the blue to 100% and the white, likely less red and green, but I'm not really well versed in saltwater light needs
Can i put the auto in specific time ? Like for about 6 hours only?
Yes
@@BentleyPascoe i can doing it only with late sunrise and late sunset?
Thank you about the answers
Hi Bentley, love your videos. I'm hoping you can help me.....I picked up an Aquasky for my 65 gallon Bowfront, used the settings you recommended for my crypts, anubias plants and now I have a BBA over growth. I've taken some pics and a screenshot of my settings. Can you give me some advice please?
Email: bentley.pascoe@gmail.com
Fantastic video!
Should be ok, just be ready to monitor algae growth and adjust both lights down a little if you have an out break
Looking to buy 2 for my 125 Gallon. Would it be 2 of the 27 watts or 18 watts? since both are 36inch
I would look at a more powerful light than the Aquasky for a 125
Thanks a lot for the tips.
You would get more benefit adding CO2 than changing lights, just keep the co2 low, like 2-3 bubbles per second
@@BentleyPascoe Thank you. Would the co2 gas bottle you get at a welding shop be better or the citric acid reactor like they sell on Amazon?
@@stevescarsfish2175 gas bottle from a welding shop hooked up to a proper regulator with a solenoid
I would just set white to like 10%
So I don’t seem to have pro mode. I’m running version 1.17 and firmware is up to date. App says 1 year old ? Any advice on what I’m missing?
Did you update the light's firmware? When you select the light, in the upper right corner you'll see three dots, look for an update there. If that doesn't work, I would contact Fluval
The aquasky was the first aquarium light I bought when getting back into the hobby. It ended up on a 20 tall, and it's absolutely perfect for the anubias, corkscrew Vals, Java fern, bacopa, crypts, and piles and piles of marimo moss. My crypts do awesome in there with inert gravel. Great overview as always Bentley.
Me too and I have a feeling that I haven’t been getting the most out of it!
Great video! You helped me so much, thank you
Is this safe for freshwater tanks! I j have betta and corydora
Yep it's designed for freshwater
@@BentleyPascoe awesome! Sounds good. Thanks
I just strapped the 27w to my 75 gallon. I may trade it in for the 35 watt version. Unsure yet.
I needed this review ty
Ours only shows red despite any adjustment - is it faulty? Bought today
Possible, I would go back to the store and try to exchange it
@@BentleyPascoe going to pop back tomorrow. Thanks for replying I wasn’t sure if anyone would see the comment
@@philmaznyk1577 you got it Phil! Don't stress, there's a ton to learn in our hobby and we all have the same moment at some point!
Would this light grow Micranthemum Monte Carlo carpeting plant?
Unless the tank is very shallow I would look at a more powerful light like the Fluval plant or similar higher powered lights.
My tank is 8 foot long can I have 2 light units working on one app on my phone. 😊
Yep!
Thanks
What light would you recommend for a 60 gal low tech? It's about 18-22 inches to the substrate mainly buce, crypt, and java fern.
Aquasky at close to max power
Would you recommend one or two for a 40 breeder?
If you're using purely low light plants, one should suffice so Anubias, crypts, Java fern, etc. If you more reliably want to hit like the medium level of light I would use two or one plant 3.0.
@@BentleyPascoe awesome! Thank you for the reply! Looking into mostly low/medium light plants. Also want to make sure the tank is covered front to back! :)
@@Ltheriault07 you certainly can do two and get nice coverage
@@BentleyPascoe should I be able to run both at full power eventually? I’ll go by your guide and experiment from there! Love the comment, thanks for being so active in the community.
@@Ltheriault07 I would think so
I run my lights for two photo periods during the day (the times I am at home). Can the Aquasky do this?
Yes, you can inside pro mode
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks.
Can you put two of these on one schedule so they act as word light instead of having to set them up individually I can’t seem to find how to do it in the app I hope this makes sense I can’t be the only person having this issue
Yes
How do you do it?
@@njbaquatics4827 save the setting, then export on the second light
Fish store guy talked me into getting this for my 125 gallon :( should I go bigger
Yes, it's pretty much perfect for low light demands!
@@BentleyPascoe amazing thanks! Sorry if you answered the question in the video, just wanted to make sure that it would be good on an 18” wide tank. Love everything you’re doing keep it up (:
I bought the Aqausky about 2 months ago. My Java Fern has gone nuts! I have several new plants growing from the tips of the leaves.
No Co2.
@@ollie2244 that’s awesome! How long do you typically leave the light on for? Really interested in a low light plants for profit tank with Anubias and java fern, plus I think it’ll be fun to see what effect CO2 has on the growth 👀
@@westfishtanks6789 15½ hours a day, but it's only on high power between 12 and 18:30, although tonight I've shortened that by an hour. I have tried to replicate a summer sunrise and sunset with more White and Red LEDs in the morning, switching to White and Blues in the evening. I keep the Green LEDs somewhere in the middle.
Anubias is the next plant on my list (if I can find room).
My tank dimensions are 60cm x 40cm x 40cm 90L
Roughly 24 gallons in American money.
My tank is toobdarkbhow do inturn up the brightness of the light???????
Through the app. You choose a mode, I would suggest auto. Select daylight and increase the settings.
hmm i was thinking about this one i have no co2 mostly crypts hygrophyla val java ferns anubias and a amazon sword i have a beamswork 24 watt 60 cm light i was thinking about changing it to a aquasky 2.0 would you recommend it in my case or should i save up and just get the plant 3.0 ?
Great vid btw like these instructional vids you make keep them coming
If you're getting good results from the beamswork, don't change it. If you want more control, the Aquasky is great for lower light demand, but if you ever plan to have slightly more demanding plants, save for the Plant 3.0
I have duel Aquasky’s on my 123 Flex. Finally got the algae somewhat under control. Been waiting for this video series for a long time. How do they do with red plants?
In shallower tanks you'll be ok (like a flex) but taller it might not be enough to get intense reds
They do make a suspension kit to hang the light

So you just set this light on top of the tank? Worthless garbage has no instructions and everyone just wants to talk about the stupid app.
Yes, it is designed to sit in the tank, the side arm sits on the tank's rim.
