Just picked up 2nd hand 900 E this afternoon, it's the adjustable one. I paid €50 here in Ireland. It's practically new too! Absolute bargain! Really happy with it. Looks amazing.
Thanks for showcasing this light MD. It's good to see what the next level up can do for a tank and when you have a few examples in your room it will be a good example of the differences in growth, fish appearance and overall design that people can aspire to. You've done such a good job with budget lighting and materials that I'm sure many of us with a variety of budgets feel they can get into the hobby, which is the point of your channel.
I think the most noticeable thing between the old light and the Twinstar on the planted tank there is probably the actually depth of colour, not just the extra brightness. It defo gives a lot more definition to the plants. Nice one...
Looks good. Lighting is one thing I haven't really invested in tbh I've done OK with what I have but know I could get better results with upgrades. My fish seem happy so I am too.
Love cinematic MD! Miss all the extra shots and stuff. We know you're a busy man but I enjoy seeing your directorial flexes. First found you through the Fluval 3.0 review, if you're curious
The Archer Fish paladarium looks great. Tiny “pinhead” crickets crawling around on the plants above the water would make the Archer Fish’s spitting instincts kick in, it’s the motion that triggers them. I’d try not feeding them for a bit then put in the “pinhead” (tiny baby) crickets and get ready to film!
I started using Hygger 97x series lights on my tanks. They are RGBW also. Plus they are less than $100US for the 4 footer. The 97x version works with my home automation system!
Today I got a Hygger 957 30-36" for 65.00 I love this light only got another one, last one was sitting too close to water level and burned up from moisture inside. I cannot imagine this being brighter but I may try on my next tank.
I think that those lights works great on not too tall aquariums, I've seen people growing all kinds of plants with these lights, I would personally wouldn't trust them in a taller aquarium.
@@jayfuller3709 It was for a long time it ended up with steam and water inside with even light algae. I cant blame the light I was basically blasting it with water for months. Now I have a glass panel between the light and tank.
I think you should have mentioned the fact that the chihiros has an app controller, for wrgb, and dimming, while the twinstar does not. The Chihiros is also overall a bit stronger in comparison when it comes to lumens/wattage( at full power).
I have just purchased the Twinstar 600S 3. Blown away with how good the colours are especially reds. Fitted the dimmer as the light on 100% is way to powerful. Set the dimmer up following Jurijs tutorial to simulate day time/dawn/dusk and hands down the best purchase I have made in aquascaping. Algae has seemed to of disappeared also, Looking forward to your scapes using these lights and especially when you do your hitech scape. Awesome as usual MD 👌👌
Remember the time when you had to replace t5/t8 bulbs every 6 months. It cost me like 15€ for a 2 foot aquarium each time. The prices of even the most expensive leds seem low in comparison
Nice comparison. MD, I was wondering if you can do an update on all of your shrimp tanks. Also, if you can do a video where you feed all your tanks. Thank you!
If the lighting works the same way LED televisions work, the RGB diodes do produce white light together but combined they will still be dimmer than a regular white diode. So having all four diodes will let you produce the full spectrum of light needed as well as keeping it bright.
Hi MD I love your video's, I am just doing a black water setup. What paint is best to use on the rear glass? I was going to paint black but don't know what paint to use
Can you even get this in the UK any more? I need a new 60cm light and this one seems to be sold out everywhere. I really like the aesthetic on this one.
Hey MD, have you used Flourite? Constant clay dust, even after washing and tryng to contain- welcome your thoughts! I've done a few aquariums now- thanks to you and other over the pandemic. Fantastic videos!
I have a 360L with nutribase then about an inch or two of old fluorite for bulk all covered in sand, it works fine. The fluorite you can get clean but it takes ages, my stuff is years old but still good, capping is the way to use it if you dont want to spend hours cleaning. @@suzanneh1605
Hey MD, been following the channel for a while now and I was wondering if you could help me out - I have a planted tank with bamboo for my dwarf frogs. I set up the tank a few weeks ago and it started off fine but over the last few days I've noticed the plants are all wilting/melting. I don't really know what the problem is. Tank was set up with the following: gravel base, root tabs on top where I'd be planting the bamboo, sand on top. Bamboo planted right into the sand as a background plant (again with the root tabs beneath them), and some tank ornaments in the front. I have a TopFin filter for a 3-5gal betta tank, and a 75W heater to keep the tank at around 76 deg F. I know bamboo can be planted either fully submerged or partially submerged with the leaves poking out of the top of the water, so I don't think I planted it incorrectly, but something is definitely wrong and I don't know what to do... Edit: The one thing my tank is missing is a light. I placed the tank by a window thinking it would get enough natural light but in the US because its winter we aren't getting much light during the day, so it *could* be melting due to a lack of photosynthetic activity, but thats really only a guess. I don't know if that would cause wilting/melting.
How does this Twinstar compare to the Chihiros wrgb pro you have? If the difference in price evident in the power and colour rendition ?I have a Twinstar 450E on my 45cm nano but contemplating the Chihiros wrgb pro for a new 60cm.
Dear MD, I’ve just got these and I think they are great for tanks with plants growing out like your peace lily Maybe it’s something you could try on one of your aquariums.? Thanks 🙏 YoYo Adjustable Grow Light Hangers for Hydroponic Grow Tent & Grow Rooms
What you need to do is a betta tank. A 4-8ft betta community. I mean tons of female bettas and a couple males. Heavily planted tons of hiding spots. And it would be amazing to see if you have luck with it. I've seen a good number of people have had luck with all betta tanks with atleast 2-4 males. Depending on the size of tank. This cant be done in anything smaller than 4ft tank. And with a 4ft tank I'd only have 2-3 male bettas. But atleast 20 females. They look truly amazing. And trust me there is something amazing about seeing bettas breed.
it's ok to go high tech. don't let these people put you down. All of my 6 planted tank runs CO2 with either Chihiros wrgb2 or Twinstar S/E series. I cannot run one without CO2 and good lights!
I don't think I'll ever figure out lighting. My 20 gallon fully planted tank grows plants amazing but my 5t with a budget plant light off Amazon struggles. The 20gal is a kit tank from Tipfin so just a few LED bulbs and the other has the same ratings as the Fluval plant light...
How the hell do you get the plants to grow so healthy and full WITHOUT ALGAE and no co2 / filter. It will be really cool if you can give your lighting lumen/hour per day, macro/trace dosing amount, and type of substrate for the tetra tank. Do you clean the algae before the video? I don’t get how you get such a clean tank with so healthy plants
I'm assuming there are red, green, blue, and white leds. They don't just use red, green, and blue to make the white. There are separate white leds. Maybe??
I have a question about algae.. Im getting a lot of that brown algae on my rocks I used as scape. It's what we call Florida rock in my area. Its white and looks like coral.(Limestone maybe) I want green algae to cover them like the goldfish tank. Will this happen or does the brown over power and won't let anything else grow??? Also wouldn't mind some hair algae...
Hey, not an expert and I haven't kept chicklets in over 15 years. I believe there is a connection with brown algae/silica and calcium. In dedicated soft water planted tanks the greens out compete the browns for the limited nutrients. In hard water tanks the greens have a harder time getting a foothold. Be patient, or find a way to remove silica from the water. Sorry, I don't have a suggestion on how to accomplish that. But its a direction to start with. Tank looks good though, and the fish seem healthy. Good luck.
Why couldn't they design this Light with an adjustable attachement? There is no size that would fit on my Nano tank, same problem I had with the Chihiros!
The new light looks great but you may want to either change the "Kettle" lead it a UK one or change the adapter for one with the ground/earth pins. I would hate for your next video to be about your studio burning down. P.S. I am NOT going to come over there and commit arson! Just thought I'd say that just in case! LOL! 🤣🤣🤣
Chihiros wrgb2and the pro is superior in every aspect, and sometimes cheaper. There is app accessibility/dimming, and overall higher lumens. There is also WEEK aqua leds which are comparable to Chihiros, and also superior to Twinstar.
Your Chihiros can literally be controlled by an app to change that "green pop" you're referring to. You can adjust it in 1% increments across the entire spectrum to change your colours like it's a white balance. You could make the Chihiros colours match the twinstar exactly. Or go for something entirely different.

Awesome video, would be cool if you did a split screen comparison between the 2 lights too. So we could see them side by side on the same tank.

The 600E is $154 here in the US as well! It is much cheaper than is used to be.

It's a very expensive light, but it's clearly added more depth to the tank. It's like going from SDR to HDR on your telly.

Can you do a video comparing this light to the Fluval 3.0 light? That would be really informative
You can get budget wrgb lights at the same price you pay for APS Pleds and work pretty well. I use nicrew ones and quite happy with the results.

love it! Big fan!
I’ve got a Nicrew clip on light. It only has White and Blue lights.
To make it RGBW I bought a box of Quality Street and ate the Green and Red ones. 😅

Pretty sure it would be fun watching MD open his Christmas presents…😂😂😂
Give Nitlea AT series a try if you have the chance. This aquarium light performs admirably.
great review! i can totally tell the difference in colours between the twinstar and the budget light. Does it work with an app and wireless?
Just got the 300E (30cm) $95 US, Twinstar dimmer/timer $21 colors are amazing on my little cube.
What gallon size do you have?
Would be very very interested in your thoughts about Fluval Planted 3.0 vs the Twinstar E.
The white in rgbw makes more pastel style colour
