Funny thing on my Discovery 3 manual. Kept getting HDC unavailable, suspension lowered and found brake light switch was the cause with one pair of contacts not releasing properly (shown by live data on diagnostic tool). Replaced switched, and with the new one in, the other pair of contacts are not releasing properly! I think my brake pedal isn't returning as sharply as it should. Think I might just bend the switch bracket away by couple of mm as it's all fine when I lift the pedal a touch!

Thanks for your comment. Some interesting info there. Let us know if bending the bracket works for you

@@Shanes_Shed I got it sorted without bending the bracket. My issue is that there is a few mm of slack in the brake pedal when the engine is running that isn't there when the engine is off. This meant that with engine running the pedal doesn't return quite as far and so doesn't push the plunger in quite as far as when the engine is off. I overcame this by pressing the pedal just that few mm to take up the slack while installing the switch. Both contacts now show properly as inactive when pedal released.

    Cheers for the video mate!
was the switch you replaced (the one with the brown plastic cover) a third party switch and not OEM? if so would you recommend getting an OEM as a spare? and how long did the brown third party switch last?

The brown cover one was an aftermarket unit. This one was in for around 4.5 yrs. The switch failed immediately after I replaced the brake booster so it’s likely that it was somehow damaged in that process. I’d have no issues carrying an aftermarket switch as a spare

It's a possibility, however without reading fault codes it is a stab in the dark. The brake switch is cheap but I don't see the point of aimlessly replacing parts with out having a better idea of whats causing it - fault codes are your friend
