The farmer didn't hit very well... If he cut off all the chickens head nicely it would have bled to death in around 2 minutes or so. They can run around a bit and stuff like that but shooting blood out of the neck really puts a tight time constraint on the chickens life.
Something people often forget about is how strictly speaking you can’t do stupid things without using your brain, but you CAN do stupid things without using your entire brain, particularly the prefrontal cortex of the frontal lobe. Which is the part that dictates logic, common sense, and conscious thought.

Fun fact, part of the brain (probably the prefrontal cortex, or part of it) is basically disabled while dreaming, which is why you tend to just accept absurd scenarios as reality, and then wake up and realize everything made no sense.

As I kid I watched almost every VSauce video. He introduced me, and a whole generation, to science and so much more. I’m now in college and want to be a neurosurgeon. Watching this video now, with a deeper understanding of the concepts talked about, really makes me grateful that Michael made so many awesome videos to inspire creativity and the pursuit of knowledge in myself and countless others.
