8 Best Hikes in Andalusia 🇪🇸 Spain Hiking Road Trip

- Hiking in Spain. We traveled to Southern Spain on a road trip and hiked 8 of the best hiking trails in Andalusia (Andalucia). It is very diverse, and so is our list of the hiking trails - each one is the best in its own category and they showcase the wild and naked nature of the Spanish South. These hidden gems are spread out through all of Andalusia, starting from Almeria in the East to the National Park of Sierra Grazalema in the West. This video includes also some travel tips and where to park your car at the trailheads.
Two out of the eight trails require a reservation in advance:
- The Caminito del Rey trail which has also an entrance fee. Tickets can be purchased for guided group tours which costs 18 EUR, or a single visit without guide for 10 EUR. We preferred the unguided tour, but there's a daily limit of 10 tickets in this category, and our dates was fully booked already. So we had to buy the guided tour tickets, but we ended up without the group as you can see in the video.
- And the Garganta Verde trail which is for free but requires a permit that you can get by sending them an email to cvelbosque.amaya@reservatuvisita.es. They have several trails, so include the following information in your email:
"I would like to apply for a permit for 2 persons:
Name: ...
Passport number: ...
How many people going on the walk: ...
Date: ...
Walk: La Garganta Verde"

We were in Andalusia a few days ago. We did the same hike near Grazalema. I'd say we were prepared quite well and I use to go for mountain hiking quite often and I'm practicing rock climbing too. But guess what, my wife started to panic as well. It started while crossing a huge and steep plate. It was so bad that we had to return back and doing 3/4 of the hike again in the opposite direction. I really felt guilty because it was so stressful for her and she couldn't enjoy the hike and the beautiful nature anymore. I really recommend doing the hike in the opposite direction starting from the chaple. The path is more obvious in these passages instead of doing it downhill. Or going up to the rock arc and the same way back. For me it was pure pleasure from a hiking perspective, but it was definitively not easy dealing with someone starting to panic in such exposed terrain. I need to take care about this in the future or watching your reports first 😅
Wow, that confirms our experience. Very interesting to hear such a duplicate of what we went through. Hope your wife is Ok now ☺️
Nice video and music. After a short winter trip to Norway, I am planing another longer trip to Norway in the summer because of its beautiful nature, but this video is now making me to reconsider Norway.
Andalusia can be done in spring or fall. In summer, it may be superhot there.
We discovered your channel today, and what a blessing it's been!
Me and my wife enjoy hiking too, although not as advanced as your experience 😊
Thank you for sharing these adventures, and using such inspiring music as well!
Greetings from 🇵🇷
Many thanks! Have a great hiking season! 🙌
Great job man! Descriptions were on point and the drone footage was spectacular! Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Thank you Bryan! :)
Jūs gan esat laimīgi cilvēki,ka varat savām acīm skatīt šo milzīgo skaistumu!Paldies,ka to parādat arī citiem!❤
Jā, esam pateicīgi! 🙏
Another wonderfully produced video. You’ve found the most amazing hikes, thank you 🙏 for sharing your experiences.
You're welcome! 🌞
Fantastic!! I have done all of these hikes apart from Grazalema (although I have done other hikes there) and Garganta Verde which I can never seem to coordinate my time with available permits. There are many other great hikes I recommend like Rio Borosa, Cazorla and Vereda De La Estrella, Granada. I feel glad that I live here and have these awesome places on my doorstep especially El Torcal where I live in Antequera. 🤗👏🏿🙏🏿❤️
Thanks! And yeah, you're a lucky guy! :)
Just wow. This is so well made with fantastic footage, epic music and calm informative commentary! Thank you for making this.
Thank you Frida! ☺️
SPECTACULAR cinematography and choreography Markus! Looking forward to our first trip to Spain, though we are a couple of senior citizens who may not be as adventurous as you two! Well done!

Thank you for your comment. Enjoy your trip! 👋
What a great video! We have hiked a few of these on our trips to Andalucía (very fun to see some of the exact spots we also past!) and can’t wait to go back and hike some more. As we usually travel in the winter months, it is also nice to see a different time of year. Thank you for the inspiration!
Cheers from 🇨🇦!
Thank you! I’d also love to return to Andalusia and do some more hiking there.

Thank you Jonne, and welcome! 🙂
A cracking, informative, well researched video 👏👏👏 Can see tons of work went into this. I’m hitting the subscribe button right now! I also do hiking movies, have a drone and 360° camera too. Thanks for sharing your Andalusian hikes 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Baq Paq Jaq! :)
fabulous thx
You’re welcome 🤜🤛
Many thanks. And now make it happen! 🙃
I felt like in a Hollywood movie :) Great job.. In one month I will be there :)
Thanks Slavio ☺️ Enjoy the hikes!
Merci pour le partage!
Kenavo
You're welcome! 🙂
Thanks!
You’re welcome! ☺️
Great video. Great places. We know them all. We live here. If a comment is needed its to say" bad choice of shoes" and not a good advert for others to follow.
Thanks! And yes - agreed on the shoes comment ☺️
Nice, Rio Chillar is very fun to run! Takes less than 2 hours 😁
Thanks. And yes, I can imagine it’s fun, especially in hot summer ☺️
Ordesa y Monte Perdido
Thank you! Yes, we're from Riga :)
Hi just watched & a superbly made video , may I ask did you get permission where the drone was used ? Going towards one of those next week
Many thanks! Which trail specifically are you talking about?
Cuevas de dos puertas but it was just more in general the asking of the question
Impression, bitte there are many more exciting regions in Andalusia. So Cabo de Gata, Sierra Nevada, Rio Tinto, Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas and perhaps most of All el Desierto de Gorafe, a Desert/ Canyon Region more impressive and colorful than rhe Tabernas, also called Geoparque Granada, situated between several high mountain regions and the small cities Guadix. and Baza. You shouldn't miss that!
Thank you for yor recommendations, we appreciate it!
The last one, the co-ordinates are for the car park. How long does the hike take? Does the trail circle back around to the parking area you started at?
Looks great!
Going there for Caminito del Rey, but might see if I can get this one in too!
Thank you
Thanks for pointing this out. It's fixed now: www.trailwalkers.co/trails/cahorros-de-monachil-trail
@@markusrosehill oh wonderful, thank you!!
Yes, I'm sure the Western part has some hidden gems as well. Andalusia is a beauty!
The best river for hiking is the Borosa River, in Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas, Jaén.
Not only do I say it, National Geographic also says it.
Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Of course, this list is my personal selection and I respect anyone's choice regarding their top trails. In this case, I picked Rio Chillar because you actually walk IN the river, not just next to it. But as I wrote, thanks for your comment! :)
@@markusrosehill When you see the 12 kms of Borosa River, you will know that the Chillar River is boring.
But if you like to walk IN the river, there, where the Borosa River is, there is also the Guadalquivir River, and you can walk IN the water just as you do with the Chillar River.
@@NasioPahComenta Thank you!
I love your raybans, can you please tell me the model
Thanks. But I don’t remember the model, sorry
It’s a beautiful, well put together compilation but it is unfortunate that the location is not mentioned so one has to pause it and google each hike to see where it is. That’s too bad it would have been very useful.
Thank you! As mentioned in the description, all trails are visible on our map at www.trailwalkers.co. But it’s a useful comment, we’ll think about this for our future videos.
"Pause".. "Google".. nightmare! 😱
@@japhfo Yup, or just use the given link to see all trails on our map at www.trailwalkers.co 🙂
