  • What lay here before was without doubt one of the most dangerous and terrifying walks anywhere in the world. That path still exists and you'll be walking right over the top of it, but does the new, secure path wash away all the fear from the original? Or does it still have some heart-stopping moments up its sleeve? Join us on our first visit to el Caminito del Rey for a look at a very famous 7km walk...
Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

I've always been awed by the sheer magnitude of the engineering that went into the original construction of that entire complex. Just the idea that someone would envision a sidewalk along the sides of a gorge hundreds of feet up the sides...
And to think of the men who built those pathways and stairs gives me butterflies in my stomach.

@@alicja4139- They really worked on the safety of this path. I saw much earlier recordings of the path [below] and it had major gaps in the path and areas where you really had to hold onto chains and old structure to get through. It was more of an urban exploration path with few on it with no trespassing signs discouraging access and only thrill seekers on hiking attempts.

Hi Steve. Thankyou both for showing us this canyon.
Personally I commend you both on being brave enough to tackle this. I was in awe of it's beauty.
I cannot imagine the engineering to build the infrastructure, let alone the skill of the workers, not only building the original path, but the new, safer one.
I think the wind was caused by the turbulence of the water falling so fast.
I mentioned this video to my husband, it turns out in 1972, as a teenager, he did the walk with his parents and brothers !
So he is now gonna watch it too, as I doubt either of us will ever get there to do it in person !😂

About 30 years ago, my late wife and I walked part way along the old Camino almost to the bridge. It was full of holes through the concrete path but it did have a steel wire attached to the rock face, although no barriers to stop you falling off.
We decided it wasn't safe and came back down.
We always visited the ruined village of Bobastro at the top of the hill opposite and the embalse which we walked around.

There were gaps in the path we had to jump over but we had had some wine first..some of the girls went back but our guide had all the ingredients for a paella so we carried on.. Was a bit nerve wracking but we didnt lose anyone.. After the paella we returned by a road over the top.. I know it was closed later as it was dangerous so I'm glad we did it then..... Hi Steve. Wow. You brought back so many memories of a visit my wife and I made to El Chorru in 2000 and our failed attempt to walk the El Caminito Del Rey. We followed other along a trail from El Churro which took us ALONG the railway track featured at the end of your video. We popped out of the tunnel and walked over the railway bridge. The Camanito was on our left. Our hearts sank 😮 My wife said NO BLOODY CHANCE. It looked a death trap as we watched others begin the tortured walk. That year 3 people died. As you said, No chance.

The end part of the movie was a grand shoot-out between the Allied forces and them nasty Germans, which took part not only on part of the path but through the near-bye railway tunnels.

Great video Steve! I took the slow direct train from Malaga to Seville which goes via that gorge a few years ago, before they put the new path. Even from the train the views are scary in places, and you get a great view of the path too.
There was still lots of people on the path, but in many places there was sections removed , so people were jumping from one to the next, and virtually no handrails either. There are some videos showing how the old path was - it's truly terrifying.

intreating hike. Good effort for challenging your fear👍 I regularly visit friends in Switzerland and we usually go for a hike. A hike over there can be sketchy in comparison to the UK Ive crossed a ridge holding on to a iron bar shuffling along a rock with sheer drops each side and descended a path with sheer drops on either side as it doubles back on itself. I don't mind suspension bridges but the paths get my heart racing.

I also just visited Caminito del Ray on my holiday to Malaga 2 weeks ago. We also had Francisco as our guide and he was a wonderful tour guide.
