god Champion Gundyr is seriously one of the peak designs in the FromSoft catalog. Everything about him just oozes style; no fancy magic, no gimmicks, just a champ and his halberd goin to town

Black knights as well. No fancy gimmicks and just gives everyone a trip to there space station with a cost of an uppercut.

@@CrescentCrusader99 lightning as well as these black knights were just made out of circumstance, one group followed gwyn to burn and the other stayed and burned in the demon wars but it's just funny if they beat the shit out of there enemies at close quarters.
He's my all-time favorite boss from FS, and maybe my favorite boss gameplay-wise, ever. Everything you mentioned, but also that all of his attacks, combos, and design choices in general feel extremely balanced and deliberate, while not sacrificing difficulty in the process. The back and forth, the punishes, the effective but not ridiculous attack delays, the AGGRESSION in phase 2, etcetera - there are bosses from DS3 alone that beat him in pure spectacle, like maybe Midir and Gael, but from an actual boss fight design perspective, that boss is honestly a masterpiece of coding and should genuinely be studied when designing humanoid bosses.
He's also a great example of a boss that's difficult but never feels unfair in any way, I just wish he wasn't so parryable, and had a bit more HP.

that stare-down before kick is just giving the vibes that Malenia passed him while saying something insulting about him, before he replied with a proper boot to her ass
Remember: Gundyr is technically SL1 since his Firekeeper died and barred him from leveling up as we do in DS3

Not necessarily. All the classes besides the Deprived have their starting levels above one. Gundyr is probably just naturally insanely high level.

Three things;
1. - Champion Gundyr is my all-time favorite boss gameplay wise, so this was a blast to watch.
2. - Yhorm VS Fire Giant would be sick, honestly, Yhorm in general would be sick, since enemies obviously don't have Storm Ruler to counter him. Maliketh would probably hold up well, but regardless, it would be pretty interesting.
3. - You should do Sister Friede as well, with her black flame attacks being ACTUAL black flame. Not sure if her invisibility would work, or if you'd have to include Father Ariandel, but it would be really cool regardless.
I don't think Friede would do well here. There are plenty of attacks that would be useless because they were design to grab a player. Would be sick to have her execute Gideon tho.

you can do it with Ruler's mask + altered set of Istvan (or maybe that guy from Volcano Manor) + Nightrider's glaive
You mean Bernahl. You can find him in the Warmaster Shack, east of Stormhill shack on the way to Margit. It's quite possible to kill him then, and get his entire set and weapon super early.@@wednesday5062

This shows just how aggressive champion gundyr is, he just never stop attacking, it's like he is in an infinite state of combo extension, when you think he is done he pulls out another extra and extra and extra, even elden ring bosses with their insane aggression and long ass combos can't handle him well and only relied on having higher stats to win
I died to the champ the most in ds3 because I couldn't find a single safe opening and was only able to win with tanking hits and I tanked a lot of kicks in the face
Facts
Haxes as well, especially malenia with her hyper armor as she is the only one who has this feature. Good thing isshin solved this issue by lightning.
Well said. He's my favorite FromSoft boss from a gameplay-oriented perspective. I died to him a lot as well, but I honestly never had one death where I stopped and thought to myself "wow, that wasn't my fault at all/that was unfair". His aggression punishes you for trying to be super passive, and the best counter to it is to reciprocate it and lock into that dance, so to speak. Every time I replay DS3, I end up wishing he had a little more HP, but obviously the replay experience is a bit different from the first.
Really enjoyed vs. Godfrey’s Shade and Margott, truly felt like duels between equals and how I imagine Gundyr would treat every encounter in his mind
Vs. Rennala is how I imagine ALL of his battles would go vs. casters if he were in the original Convergence mod

The thing I missed the most from Dark Souls 3 is "edge-walking". A lot of bosses/enemies will simple just walk and be menacing even if, especially during boss v boss, they get murked.
Don't Malenia, Godfrey, and Morgott/Margit do that? I don't remember a lot of DS3 bosses doing it either. Just Nameless King, and maybe Abyss Watchers, Friede (first phase), and Gael (second phase). Gundyr and Sulyvahn jump at you almost immediately.
I'm pretty sure most elden ring bosses do that too so what are you talking about?
@@Marco1995Mega No, they don't "edge walk." They walk toward the player but you can clearly see the difference between DS3 bosses walking and the elden ring bosses walking. Gail/SoC/NK walking VS Malenia and other Elden ring bosses. Just watch them walk.
@@agentcd7806 No, they don't. Ds3 is ultimately a darker game than elden ring. Edge walking is strictly a ds3 phenomenon and I can only find mentions in the souls community about it beginning in ds3

All of you, remember, Champion Gundyr is at Soul Level 1(or Rune Level 1) because he never received additional strength from his Firekeeper so this is basically him at his weakest.
This is him at his canonical strongest, he got even weaker as Iudex Gundyr, we will never be able to know him at his true potential strongest
@@RX0_GundamUnicorn yeah and unlike elden ring, this is the case for dark souls as a whole, the bosses are at there last breathe of power especially those on the light side with the dark slowly becoming powerful.

Every time Gundyr stomps on the ground to create a shockwave, Godfrey does the same to show him the true power of stomping.
If there was any previous boss I would like to see officially brought into Elden Ring, it is/was definitely Gundyr. Having seen him in action with his DS3 arsenal, he'd would make him an interesting reimagined Elden Ring boss. Or a Spirit Ash...because why not? He could be the only one with unique demigod boss interactions. Or summonable NPC ally...sorry I've always liked Gundyr xD

Also, could you have her rematch the bosses but with her 3rd phase blackflame attacks using Elden Ring blackflame instead of DS3 blackflame as a bonus? I feel like Blackflame Friede would be devastating with it.
My thoughts exactly. Friede with black flame would be super cool, and I feel like she'd be pretty strong given her 3 phases. Just a question of if her invisibility would work and if he'd have to include Father Ariandel.
Another really interesting one would be Yhorm, especially against Fire Giant and Maliketh
@@akalichamp7030I don’t know about her invisibility either, but I do know that Father Ariandel probably won’t be included. He would have to be programmed into the game which takes time. Friede can also go from phase 1 to phase 3 without the need of a cutscene which makes things way easier.
Edit: Yhorm against the Fire giant would be very interesting.
considering in DS3 Friede has frostbite (and DS3's version of black flame),
meanwhile in ER frostbite is more related to ghost flame than ER's black flame,
so instead of Blackflame Friede, we might have Ghostflame Friede ?
@@tranquoccuong890-its-orge Thing is that she already does a large amount of frost buildup and none of her blackflame attacks deal any frostbite buildup, only dark damage. Her frost trail attacks are (at least to me) like a stronger hoarfrost stomp. Ghostflame would just be more magic and ice but ER blackflame has some synergy. Not only does ER blackflame have the percentage based health drain, but it also deals fire damage meaning that the frostbite buildup would be reset and could be reapplied quickly. Plus it just fits better for her.

Not really, he did pretty good actually, unlike the other two, he beat mohg although soc never had that chance but it is still nice along with the fact that his fight fire giant, malenia exceeds both and he did all this as level 1 as he never had the chance to level up.
@@tc-channelhobby4051He only stalemated Mohg and that was because his scaling was increased after he beat Morgott. Otherwise he’d lose to everything post Morgott
@@zaynthemane yeah I know but it is very important as the fights here would be very short considering elden ring stats and health are bigger than dark souls and if they can do it if given the chance to do so and gundyr didn't disappoint.

Little fact: Gundyr is just level one as he never got to level up in dark souls as his firekeeper died and his time became a dark timeline.
And He never uses Any heals, so He probably used all of them and didn't know about bonfires to refill them

It's fascinating seeing just how many enemies Gundyr could take down and which ones he almost takes down.
I would love to see one of these with Dancer of the Boreal Valley or even better would be the Twin Princes of Lothric
