@@ms.marion8431 everything is chemical-based though because everything is a chemical. The risk of serious side effects of *topical* minoxidil is very rare. Oral is a different story (which is something you would need to have prescribed by a doctor depending on where you live), but we only talked about topical in this video. I would love to do a part two with Dr. Aguh but she's due any day now and with the holidays coming and a newborn baby arriving, not sure how soon we could make that happen.
Aloe has grown my hair back....So, I had traction alopecia at the front and back of my hair owing to braids. I had bald spots with no hair folicals for over 4 years. Now, if I was reading this, I would think it was non sense, but having seen results in less than 3 months, I'm sharing my experience. Aloe vera gel, rubbed twice daily to the bald areas for a period of 2 months grew my hair folicals back, it's now been 5 months and I have 1cm of hair where I previously had smooth bald patches. Hopefully this helps someone
Oh my goodness! I am in that same boat! I keep telling myself that I will not give up on growing my edges back! I have traction alopeia from braids as well. I've tried everything except aloe vera. I have so many aloe vera plants at home just sitting and waiting for me to use it. How did you prepare the aloe vera gel for your hair, if I may ask?
I believe you. A child family member had scalp issues that led to balding. She began receiving aloe treatments, and now, has thick, gorgeous hair again. You would never know she had bald patches. There's something about aloe that regrows hair!
I experienced COVID that lasted around 10 days. At first, I believed I was fine until I started to notice a loss of more hair than normal. After doing some research, I've come to realize it’s from the strain my body went through during that time period and also the shampoo that I was using. So I began doing yoga and meditation everyday and changed my shampoo and conditioner to littleextraa cooconion anti hair fall kit. And today I don't face any hairfall. Thank you for this video! I'm feeling so much better.
Upon using this cocoonniion shampoo over a week, itself started show better outcomes than other shampoo. At present, I’m experiencing no hair loss issues and the smell seems so pleasant and hair is growing slowly yet it’s at least helping.
I've been using the reactivaate serum from liiitlextra for the last month and totally switched from my previous serum since the last two months. It's working wonderfully. I simply use it one time every day with the spray pump that comes with the serum. It's really simple to use, not oily, and without any scent. The hair growth results are up to now so good, and it's just 1 month only and I will continue to apply it.
this serumworks, GUYS, it works! i've used 3 bottles of the reactivatte serum and i have noticed an boost in hair density... it works! thanks, thanks, thanks!
Biotin actually helped me grow my hair longer than what I was used to having for length. I've pretty much taken 10,000 mg every day for the last 5 1/2 years. Love it...however, I recently learned about what you are talking about with how it affects medical tests, so I stopped to give myself a break since Oct. Another thing is that almost 50% of women will have some form of hair loss as they approach/go through menopause. It's the thinning in the front, center part and top. Minoxidil is the only medicine that can help that but needs to be applied consistently, or you lose the benefits. That being said, save yourself tons of money by not buying into expensive treatments. Other than that not many of us can afford hair transplants so the next best bet is getting in the best health and fitness that you can and praise God on the journey. He listens and answers if you keep knocking! xx God bless
Yes I agree. Biotin definitely helps my hair growth crazy and many others I know. I do stop before any blood tests. I did know about that. But it does work for me. When I stop for a while my hair doesn't grow as long
I've never been to a African braiding salon where the stylist had their edges. You'd think that would be a clue to walk away but we want the styles so bad. Great video. I'm glad you bought up the discussion about biotin.
Dr. Crystal, you have given me hope. For the first time in 10 years, I feel that I can finally address my hair loss. Thank you, Ladies, for this wonderful video. You are touching the lives of tens of thousands of Black women that are impacted by hair loss.
You could also use whole Cloves and fresh Rosemary and boil some water and let it sit for an hour and put that in your scalp it helps the hair grow it helps with alopecia it helps with everything💯💯💯✔
This was an excellent conversation! I am so happy you have a board certified dermatologist who focuses on alopecia as the guest. As a medical professional this was a great CME refresher as well.
Dr. Aguh said don’t be scammed out here in these edgeless streets. The shocker for me was the biotin. Also, the cost/frequency of PRP, cuz no one ever spills that tea. This was super informative! Thanks for sharing 💕
I felt smooth scalp hair loss in my mid to late-40s. No more relaxers, I stopped micro-braids, and ended the tight ponytails. I started applying essentials oils (peppermint, eucalyptus)...rose water and avocado oil spritz. I rubbed the essential oils into my temples, where the loss was. Then I started locs, continuing the same routine. It took five years but my edges (though thin) are back. Patience and sticking to a healthy routine.💯
I would just say try things for yourself because even these doctors don’t 100% know what’s gonna work for what person and anytime I watch this ladies video she’s always saying that something doesn’t work and then they’re always 50,000 people in her comments saying that they literally do it and it always works so try it for yourself and see how it works
This was really good. Some notes I took: Dandruff is not a result of dryness but natural yeast. Applying oils can make it worse. Essential oils (rosemary, lavender, castor, peppermint & tea tree) can be used for medicinal reasons and should be applied to the scalp. *Doesn’t guarantee hair growth esp depending on stage of hair loss. For hair retention use carrier oils (grape seed, jojoba, avacado oil) and apply to hair. They help trap moisture.
As a clinician, this segment was so informative from a medical perspective and a personal one. I'm so glad she touched on Biotin and it's adverse effects. Thank you for the content!
@@destinyobiakoeze3122 there are long term effects and short term effects. Give it time. The folks I knew that swore up and down by Biotin because "it works" are now complaining about how it messed up their hormonal balance, hair thinning etc. So basically all I'm saying is, don't debunk the information because you're seemingly benefitting from it. Take everything with a grain of salt.
I've been doing braids back to back for a year now and i've seen my edges THINNING/mini bald spots and kept ignoring. This is definitely a wake up call. Thank you!!!🤗🧡
right! I haven't had a weave in 5 years and bought some kinky hair to do one for the holidays, but after this convo, I'm like should I be doing that?!?!
Same here. I’m giving my hair a break while I’m still at stage 1😁. Wigs did a good job protecting my hair than braids. I recently bought grape seed oil and blended with aloe vera. Finger crossed. Good luck out there.
I wore braids back to back this yr as well… I was in school, working and raising my two boys, now that school is done, I’ve seen the damage the braids caused😫My hair is fine and very soft, you can look at my hair and it’ll get to acting crazy🥴.. I am putting the braids on the back burner for a LONGGGGG while.
I think healthy braiding is based on who braids your hair because the Masia men in Tanzania have braids down to their knees and I didn't see any thinning around the edges.
@@timekabolden5309 For me, I'm nixing the bi Biotin altogether became it can damage your heart. Watch the video and listen carefully to the doctor. Honestly, I have used biotin for more than 10 years and only noticed my nails growing faster and being harder but nothing noticeable happens to my hair. Since I stopped using biotin, I don't get the flutter in my heart when going upstairs, or walking an incline but everyone is different.
@@reneejackson8088 biotin doesn’t damage your heart, its water soluble. Your body will excrete what it doesn’t use and it is in a lot of foods naturally anyway. What happens is it can alter tests you take when you get your blood drawn including heart labs. So if you’re going to the doctor it’s best to stop using it some time beforehand. However if you already have a bad heart it may not be good to use because if you go into heart failure it will alter tests for the doctors to give adequate interventions
I really thought my hair wasn’t gonna grow back including my edges and since I’ve actually started caring for my hair and taking vitamins and herbs… they’re growing back and I’m so freakin happy!!! It really takes time and patience so I’m giving myself a full year of wearing silk lined turbans and keeping it balanced with protein and moisture… pumpkin seed oil topical and internal… St Tropica vitamins… Haitian black castor oil… hair teas and Ayurvedic recipes… turmeric .. saw palmetto …zinc..

Hats off to the sistas . I’m Native American. I have thin hair but I notice my edges and over all hair . Grows back quicker with biotin and organic castor oil scalp massages or applications. I evenly distribute the oil to the root and leave it on for 20 min to overnight as a conditioner .I can actually feel a tingle in my scalp .
That is the problem: Minoxidil is chemistry, very expensive & then you have to use it forever. God gave us Nature for nourishment, beauty care, health. Praise Him.🙏🏼👏
Girl this is the best video I have ever seen. It is so refreshing to see a professional who really knows black hair and being a former hair stylists she's absolutely correct about dandruff. And I have aproduct for men, I am so glad I got it right! 🥰
Growing up, my mom use to scratch our scalp and applies grease like Blue magic , TCB or sulfur 8. I used to hate how heavy it made my hair. Now as an adult when I start to see dandruff flakes, I use Head and shoulders royal oils co wash. After I use that with my weekly washes for about a month, I could go about 3 months of no dandruff. And as far as my edges, I’ve been recently wear my hair with a part in the middle with my natural hair in a puff in back. I’ve noticed that my edges is looking a little thinish ( I know it’s not a word 😂😂😂) and I was considering by the Kaleidoscope miracle drops for it . But after watching this video, I’m going to use some good old Jamaican Castor oil and just wear a twist out this week to prevent further damage! Thanks for this Danielle!
Try Camille rose grow back drops just know it’s meant for your edges & kitchen only. which is a more cost effective & sold @ target for $15 . I ❤️ JBCO, but it’s too thick sometimes so I just do a monthly hot oil treatment. It has quality castor oil, peppermint oil, & saw palmetto. Light weight & easy to apply. Plus if you don’t like it target regardless if you used half they will refund you. For reference I now have semi thin edges ( I used to have thin edge, mainly my temples) I have 4B/4C dry natural hair plus my scalp & skin is super sensitive. My results came in 2 weeks believe it or not. I hope this helps . www.target.com/p/camille-rose-grow-back-drops-2-fl-oz/-/A-80142934
Excellent interview. I don’t have a favorite part of the video, but I really loved the discussions on oiling the scalp and traction alopecia. I love that the conversations you have are with actual topical experts that focus on black skin and hair, and not internet folks using their platforms to claim some super secret recipe that you apply at 4:26am on Tuesday when mercury is in retrograde miraculously made their edges reappear and their hair is now waist length bc some brand is paying them to lie to their own community. It’s a great starting point for a chat with your doctor, which most of your experts always advise. Love it!
I've never had thick hair, didn't wear extensions or wigs and have been natural for 40 years. My hair started thinning during a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism and high BP along with medication. I was nearly bald on top of my hair. I started massaging my hair with rosemary oil and castor oil with daily scalp massage and inverted massage plus Biotin. One or all of those things brought my hair back and I cured hyperthyroidism with diet changes. I rely on DIY hair care and recently red light therapy has done wonders. It is great to hear these other options. I'll definitely have to check out the Biotin issues. Thank you!
Sorry, I was wondering, what diet changes did you make :) I am on this journey now and would love to hear what worked for you! If you don’t mind sharing a bit :)
I am so grateful for this video thank you so much! I lost my edges more than five years ago. I did a sew in in 2012 and that was it for my edges I literally looked like a Chinese when I got up from the chair. When i decided to take out the weaves my edges came out in clumps and i cried. I tried EVERYTHING in the book but NOthing helped. Minoxidil grew the hair a little bit but it gave me a BEARD😑 so I stopped using it! Every oil that has ever existed you name it i used it but my hair never came back. The areas of hair loss are now smooth in texture and I started using hair skin and nails gummies by nature's bounty and I have noticed an increase in my edges so I pray that I get some really impressive results soon so I can ease up on the biotin given my discovery of the risk factors involved. Is hope I dont have to do a hair transplant 😓. I can literally buy a house with that money.
This was such an informative video. I stopped taking Biotin years ago because it caused terrible breakouts. I love castor oil, rosemary oil, lavender oil, and grape seed oil. I make my own mix for my edges. I lightly oil my scalp with grape seed oil once a week. I’m sending this to my friend because she swears by coconut oil but complains her hair is always dry.
It causes breakout because it has the detoxing effect on the body. When you use biotin and you associate with zinc chelated and drinking enough water it prevents that discomfort.
Danielle, this was such informative content. I love that she spoke about how useless and harmful biotin can be (I also read that it can contribute to acne flare ups). Using coconut oil as a protein treatment is mindblowing to me, I have always used it as a pre-poo. I wish I could give this video 10 likes all at onece😂👍🏽👍🏽
Yes! I use coconut oil when I’m taking my braids out. I love how it helps to detangle my hair and get rid of the dirt build ups. I didn’t realize that it’s also acting as a protein treatment after months of having in braids that have weakened my hair. Great info!
At the age of 61 I had to learn the hard way about biotin it causes irregular heart rhythm Mia which can lead to massive heart attack I'm happy and grateful for your platform girl you funny as well as insightful I just want to get down to the brass tacks and throwing my edges back
Wow, so many myths dispelled! Thank you both! I had the worst breakout of my life after taking biotin and its so scary to know that it clouds test results. All that and it doesn't even work for your hair.
Biotin is my lifesaver. I lost my hair due to health conditions and the medications added to the hair loss. It wasn’t until I started taking vitamins with biotin and hair oil with biotin that my hair started growing back like crazy!
My edges needed this. I've been using protective styles to grow my hair and even though I've given myself a break in between styles. The front of my hair is definitely thinning out and my hair feels super dry. So now I have the growth I wanted but bald edges and dry hair lol. Rogaine , rosemary oil, and castor oil has worked in the past so I'm gonna stop with the faux locs and passion twists and try that again and fingers crossed I'll get my silky hair and baby hair back.
@Sunshine Tyree my hair had been thinning on the sides before I ever started doing crochet and braids. So I've used it for years because it's not a temporary fix. If you don't use it continuously then once you stop chances are your hair will start falling out again if that was just naturally happening to you. I'm a definite fan of rosemary oil I saw the most changes combining both . The only thing is rosemary oil has a strong herbal smell.
@@Amara_Op I just buy rosemary oil off Amazon look for pure essential oil and mix it in black castor oil . I think the last brand I got said maple holistics with a light turquoise label. Use a small amount of rosemary oil in the castor oil like say a teaspoon or 8 drops per 120 ml
Please know that I actually stood and applauded at the conclusion of this video!!!! Many thanks for getting to the bottom of the 'Biotin Myth" and letting the people know that it can mask lab values!
I made the decision to save my hair and stopped getting "protective" styling going on 5 years. I saw how it was breaking my hair and thinning my edges. Recently cut all of my hair and I love it. Edges still thin but not gone, lol. Short hair is a lifestyle that works best for me :). Best decision I ever made. May look into dermatologist to see about treating the thinness. I had no idea that's who treats hair loss. Thanks for the information!
The science of black hair in my opinion is that it's different strokes for different folks there is no one size fits all I've been watching natural hair vloggers on TH-cam for years tried many of their tips and majority of the time it did nothing for me I can say protective styling works for me the stretching of my hair makes it lengthen and grow faster but I get for another black female it might not work for her
The trick is to understand what styles put the most stress on your follicles. For instance. Box braids and any other style similar to that, that has the potential to put stress on the hair follicles shouldn’t be worn that often. Most women who have grown their hair exceptionally long (referring to 4C hair types) they did NOTHING to their hair for almost a year and simply wore wigs. Kept their hair braided up and deep conditioned and moisturized their hair regularly. Another thing too is people don’t drink enough water. If you’re not actually tracking how much water you take in on a daily basis then you really have no idea how much water you’re drinking. Buying one of those half a gallon water bottles is cheap. You’ll ALWAYS know how much water you’re drinking daily if you use one. It’s not that hard.
I've been using biotin 10,000mcg for a few years and it absolutely grows my hair and nails and my skin doesn't have break outs like before. However, I wasn't aware of the lab test alterations. Thanks for the info, knowledge is power, God Bless.
Omg. So glad I came across this. I had no idea the differences with the oils and the importance of the order we use. I literally shared this with every black woman I know before the video ended.
I've had alopecia for years and have fine thin hair.....I saw an episode of UK hospital that treats patients through food....watching that episode has helped me grow back my hair without medical treatment. It's been slow, but my spots have filled in....basically told their patient with alopecia to explore a variety of foods to support hair growth
@@come_on_barbie_123 type in " Tonic channel alopecia" in TH-cam search....they basically tell her what portions should be Vegetables, what should be meat and carbs. But I personally have stuck with sweet potatoes, eggs, spinach bell peppers onions and avocados daily. And it has helped significantly
The most eye opening is that I’ve been doing it all wrong🤦♀️!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you for this video. I ALMOST fell for the biotin hype. But look at God... sending me this gem of a video.
@@gene5148 Knowledge is one thing, but applying it to every single human is a no go. Something I learned a long ago if someone’s livelihood depends on our finances there will be push back. Think of doctors versus nutrition 🤔
Took FOREVER for me to find this video again but she is absolutely correct when it comes to stage 2. I started using minoxidil after losing ALL of my edges and I swear now my edges are back like they never left. You have to keep using it but it does really work. I bought the men’s and used it once a day.
@@jessicab331 I know sis but it’s worth it I think to be able to have ur hair back. And after a while you don’t have to use it everyday. Now I can get away with using it 3 days a week which means the 6 month supply will last longer.
Very helpful😩 I almost lost all my edges two years ago. You are out here doing the Lords work. Loosing hair is traumatizing! I even tried biotin😬🤦🏾♀️ GREAT VIDEO!
This video is so informative. I am currently fighting traction alopecia, I realised it at stage 1, then I decided to have a big chop. The reason I chose to cut my hair is because I could tell it was damaged. It has been almost two months since I let my edges to relax avoiding pressure on it.
This was great. Thank you and Dr. Aguh for this informative discussion, without the sales pitch haha! So pleased to come to your channel for skin AND haircare education:)
OMG!! I’m currently taking, well not now, Biotin. I had these weird heart palpitations. I told my practitioner on my last office visit. NP couldn’t figure out why. But now I may have the answer. Also, oiling my son’s scalp for dandruff! I did use a medicated shampoo, but oiled it with coconut, rosemary and tea tree. This definitely helps me understand our issues. Thanks a lot.
More informative than the dermatologist I paid for and she made my edges worse. Baby don’t be bald (old version with natural ingredients) and not having my hair pulled back all the time helps as well as messaging my head.
I'm not kidding...this video convinced me to take out the braids around my edges because I was worried about the stress they were placing on my edges...I've had them installed for only 12 hours
@@styleandbeautydoctor I got crochet twists at the beginning of the year and didn't speak up when the cornrows were too tight. I definitely now have at minimum stage 2 damage to my edges, so now I'm trying to be much more vocal about my edges not being braided. I'd rather have them look fuzzy than being pulled into a tight braid and permanently damaging the follicles
@@styleandbeautydoctor so for long and thick hair, how do you women wear your hair at night? I'm a black male 36 years old and I went to Nigeria and got the tightest braids now my top is kind of thin now. I'm just taking a break from braids for now after wearing them since 18
I want to know how do I wear my hair since I have taken it down. I've been putting in an soft ponytail that's not pulled tight. And what to do to protect it while I sleep. I have an silk pillow case already
My two- cents is diet, water… natural consumption of avocado, sweet potatoes and types of legumes(biotin) etc. “Let go and let grow” by getting rid of stressors “ pulling tugging on hair”. Consistency with choice oils, but none of the oils will work, if harsh hair practices continue coupled with a vitamin deficient diet and low water consumption. Lastly, take time to know “thy hair” it’s not “cookie cutter” each individual has a different “lesson plan” for their strands. ( great topic)✨💛
I've actually been using collagen, along with the carrier oils for sometime now. And I started adding rice water to my routine. It has helped immensely. I've been off Biotin for 2 yrs now, glad this solidified the choice. Fantastic video🙏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Solid content as per usual

Wow and I just purchased some biotin, but mainly for my nails. I've always known that tension is definitely the root to hair loss. Thank you for additional needed information. This segment with a hair specialist was worth watching.
I was discouraged to learn that damage I did to my scalp from braids 15 years ago can never be reversed😥, but I guess it confirmed what I suspected for a couple of years now. It was…good…to hear the truth. I guess. And I’m throwing my biotin away. Very informative video and I love your personality! I subscribed.
I take biotin and it definitely works. My hairstylist and I noticed the rapid hair growth. If I stop taking it my hair stops growing. The only thing I don’t like about it is I get rapid hair growth everywhere. I have heard that it affects lab work. Iv had the same lab work while taking biotin and when not taking biotin. I do know biotin aka B7 is a water soluble vitamin. It doesn’t stay in the body. Biotin helps metabolize fats and carbohydrates.
Nice video but everyone's journey is not the same. There are lots of supplements not FDA approved that still work. Just as there are many FDA approved products that have tons of side effects. Find a balance. You can always play devils advocate and find videos with pros and cons to science based vs natural remedies. I know several people who've had great experience with Biotin. Hair is tricky, some of us genetically have longer thicker hair. There are things internally with our health that can affect hair growth or cause hair loss. Fibroids for instance, many of the medications doctors prescribe to shrink fibroids or help with excessive heavy cycles, cause extreme hair loss. So whatever you take, do your research. FDA approved doesn't always mean it's the best alternative
I'm 53 and I've been using biotin in the highest MG for hair growth and I've noticed results of long hair and no complications also no break outs as well. My labs have not been affected either. Everyone has different results. You just have to pay attention to your body and what actually works for you cause it could be different for someone else. I'm a vegetarian for 14 years now and I also take alot of supplements and work out alot too. Drink water is the key . Hydration. My edges have grown very nice and I also use kaleidoscope oil too. Alot of research and kerivitamin as well. All hope isn't gone just be patient and observant. Stay away from edge control and gels too. My hair grew bk thick and coarse and grey too. Yes I still have a relaxer because it's so thick and I've made my own oil mixture as well.
Buy fresh ROSEMARY clean the leaves then boil in water, it works…no oil just the water after boiling. Also, Fenugreek, you can soak it and just pour the water in a plastic container…use daily.
@@trentdaddydolla647 Yes, everyday! You may want to get bottles of water to wash your hair. City water or well water (hard) can dry out the hair. Then find the OIL for you, I love coconut oil, but my hair strands do not absorb it the way other oils do.
Stress is my BIGGEST culprit in my alopecia. When my hair fell out this last most recent time, I simply cut it all off and I’ve started over. I braid my out hair because I know how tight to braid my own hair. I work to keep my hands out of my hair as much as possible and do low manipulation. I also mix my own oils for myself as I have many allergies. Overall that and vitamins have helped me a lot over the years when I experience hair loss. These are things I’ve done simply as I haven’t always been able to go to a doctor for help.
I am so shocked that she confirmed what I have been telling my black sisters for years about oils, and grease on there scalp! I know first hand. I changed what I do my hair and started getting amazing results and my dandruff went away. No issues in years!!! Loved the video!
I am happy that I learned about biotin's adverse response in skincare so I stopped it a LONG time ago. When you find the right combination for your hair, no one can tell you anything! My hair is finally growing past my shoulders. A lot of the skincare knowledge has assisted me in changing up my hair-care as well. Loved those eye-glasses you were wearing at the beginning. Cheers Beautiful!

This was so dope! Thanks girl! My most eye opening moment was when she was talking about how different oils serve different purposes! Carrier oils vs. essential oils vs. coconut oil! Life-changing!
Thank you for this one! Doc is so right about Biotin's PR. I read up years ago about Biotin and no one believes it! I found it hard myself to believe because I had to unlearn everything I'd heard for years. Great info. Will be sharing with the many women I know struggling. Thanks again!
Oooooh gurrrrrl! This was fantastic! I will share with as many as I can. First of all I have been wondering when I would see a doctor that specializes in treating black/curly hair. So I am so glad that you showcased her. My takeaway is literally ALL of it because the misconceptions really got blown out. But to give you just one....I DO put coconut oil on my hair when it is damp so that when it dries in a ponytail or if I blow dry it, it is smoother. BUT I ALSO put it on my hair throughout the week 'thinking' that it will continually moisturize. So I am glad she said - DO NOT PUT COCONUT OIL ON DRY HAIR. That is a commandment! LOL. Only use it as a protein conditioner while hair is damp, prior to styling. Thanks soooo much!🥰
Camilla rose grow back drops works for probably stage 1. It has castor oil, pepper mint oil, & saw palmetto it’s typically sold @ target for $15. It’s not oily which I like. & not meant to go anywhere on your scalp just your edges and your kitchen. My go to is soft locs ( best length retention style) in medium size . I only do loose low ponytails with soft locs & I don’t pull on my edges. I also do not slick my edges every day. Their is an obsession w/ doing our edges. & honestly just stick w/ the basic of a hair care routine. Get blood work done to check your vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin D & Iron especially in black women are missing, but go to a doctor. I learned a lot from the video. I can’t wait to see more !
Thank you for having this conversation! It confirmed my suspicions with the use of oils on dandruff. Like the video said, I too realized that the more I oiled, the drier my scalp became. So I abandoned the oiling the scalp situation years. I also realized treating yeast ...period ...reduce the flakes. I also appreciate her pointing out the difference...it not so much hair growth, as it is length retention...that's my issue. Cause hair will grow-- just how do you make it stay! So thank you. I only wished Dr. Augh was local...I would be her patient🙃

Happy I watched because I’ve been having thinning in my hair due to hyperthyroidism. I’ve been using everything under the sun. Also, have scalp issues and I was doing exactly what she said, using oil to help instead of oil with steroid. This was a very informative video.
I also have hyperthyroidism and suffered years ago with thinning hair because of it. Trial, error and time. Get your levels in tact and deep condition, protein balance and protective styling. Also it's not uncommon that what used to work for you doesn't work anymore.
Not sure if you'll see this but my mom has hyperthyroid. She got her hair loss to slow down by washing her hair in onion juice. Gross I know but it actually works
I was diagnosed with Graves disease hyperthyroidism 2 years ago and have lost so much hair since then. I hope some of her suggestions will help in my case.

Great explanation. I feel much better informed and she just explained why using coconut oil on my hair after shampooing and before I dry it or the night before I plan to shampoo has had an amazing effect. Have been looking for a black female dermatologist and will gladly drive the 30 miles to Baltimore to see her. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
@sweet mint certain oils are not good for a dry scalp as I said. But there are oils that treat a dry scalp. Maybe you should find out the cause of your dry scalp before applying certain oils.
@sweet mint there are oils that add moisture and treat dry scalp. I make infused oils. I don’t prefer essential oils. I treat my dry scalp with oils never had an issue and it moistures my scalp. Detox the hair follicles and stimulate hair growth. If a person has an oily scalp already adding more oil can cause yeast and dermatitis which lead to a dry scalp. Some oils may aid in bacteria growth. Some oils kill the bacteria and moisturize the scalp. The scalp needs the right ph. Even on cradle cap or eczema flare up on the scalp coconut with tea tree does wonders. Coconut oil with Bragga acv does wonders. When your scalp is dry you want to use oils that don’t block your pores ans are easy absorbed and Sony just sit in the scalp. As you said sealing in dryness ans not allowing moisture. Just like a persons hair they can use castor oil but if the hair isn’t absorbing nutrients the castor oil is just sitting there not absorbing it. Making your hair easier to collect more dirt. Olive oil is.sealant jojoba absorbs red clover a dht blocker neem treats conditions. But if your has no issues with dht than why use a dht blocker. One just has to know the root cause.to get the right remedy.
@sweet mint when. I infuse my oils I do not dilute. Only when using essential oils do you dilute the oil. Again certain oils extracted from plants or seeds can indeed moisturize your scalp nourish your scalp and treat your scalp for fungus dryness itchiness. That is a fact.
Yup she is so right, my fine hair was okay with weaves for years and then one day 2 inches of hair around the perimeter were just gone. I saw a trichologist who got me into the rosemary and peppermint with a carrier oil as well as restructuring products. 10 years later I have edges, slightly thinner than before but there. Regarding biotin I stay away from that stuff like a vampire at Olive Garden. I always say natural is not always good, most drugs have natural sources.
yessss glad you were able to grow your edges back in some! I stayed away from biotin as well, but didn't know it messed up lab results until I did this video!
Not having any hair issues myself but the information Dr. Aguh presented was phenomenal. Thanks so much, Danielle, for having her on your channel. Happy Holidays to you ❤️!
Had my hair transplanted in 2017 and spent 7k at the natural hair transplant in Florida. They did an amazing job. I still have a low density but it's better than nothing. And my scar is so thin and healed well. I recommend it vs lace front wigs.

would have been great to mention the side effects of minoxidil since it is chemical-based. and what about DHT blocker oils ...
@@ms.marion8431 everything is chemical-based though because everything is a chemical. The risk of serious side effects of *topical* minoxidil is very rare.

Based on my experience, black female doctors are the BEST! They are so detailed and relatable!
Based on your suggestion, I began using reactiavatte hair growth serum. It has been 1 month, and new hairs are growing on the right part of mine head
this serumworks, GUYS, it works! i've used 3 bottles of the reactivatte serum and i have noticed an boost in hair density... it works! thanks, thanks, thanks!

@Sunshine Tyree my hair had been thinning on the sides before I ever started doing crochet and braids. So I've used it for years because it's not a temporary fix. Not all protective hairstyles damage hair, they damage hair when not done properly.

What did it do for you before you wanted to stop?
I guess it’s different for everyone. I take biotin daily and oil my hair every other day and my length is immaculate !
I was thinking the same thing, everyone is different and the reasons for their hair lost may vary.

Took FOREVER for me to find this video again but she is absolutely correct when it comes to stage 2. I started using minoxidil after losing ALL of my edges and I swear now my edges are back like they never left. You have to keep using it but it does really work. I bought the men’s and used it once a day.

Very helpful😩 I almost lost all my edges two years ago. You are out here doing the Lords work. Loosing hair is traumatizing! I even tried biotin😬🤦🏾♀️ GREAT VIDEO!
This is the most informative video I’ve ever seen on TH-cam in regards to
Black hair! Love it!!!
Wow, thank you! Glad it was helpful!
This video is so informative. I am currently fighting traction alopecia, I realised it at stage 1, then I decided to have a big chop. The reason I chose to cut my hair is because I could tell it was damaged. It has been almost two months since I let my edges to relax avoiding pressure on it.
Hi. How are things going now that it's been 2 years?
Thank you for the knowledge and introducing another female black doctor. Blessings
Excellent video. As a nursing student, very concerning information about the troponin levels and biotin.😳
OMG this is happening to me and I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I am throwing these away IMMEDIATELY!!!
More informative than the dermatologist I paid for and she made my edges worse. Baby don’t be bald (old version with natural ingredients) and not having my hair pulled back all the time helps as well as messaging my head.
I'm not kidding...this video convinced me to take out the braids around my edges because I was worried about the stress they were placing on my edges...I've had them installed for only 12 hours
right! I haven't had a weave in 5 years and was thinking of getting one, but I'm second guessing after this...lol
@@priscillal6025 I'm so sorry! Yes, we have to be more vocal about these things---cannot let strangers have the last word about our own well-being.

I change my shampoo and conditioner. I have a bald spot on top of my head and my edges. I am using Doo Gro products. I am working on growing it back. This was very helpful.
Why throw it away?
Try microneedling incorporated with oils...essential oil like peppermint, rosemary etc with carrier oil like grapeseed, etc.
Nah it don’t work. It’s that placebo effect. Leaving the hair alone and exercise and a balanced diet is the only way to grow healthy hair.
@@girlanonymous Maybe it doesn't work for you
Buy fresh ROSEMARY clean the leaves then boil in water, it works…no oil just the water after boiling. Also, Fenugreek, you can soak it and just pour the water in a plastic container…use daily.
So you rinse your hair out with it? My scalp is dry and has dandruff

Thanks soooo much!🥰
that INTRO though!!!!, I'm rollin!!!, all in
The biotin information has me shook. Life is an education.
🙌🏾🥰🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💯
Thank you for having this conversation! It confirmed my suspicions with the use of oils on dandruff. Like the video said, I too realized that the more I oiled, the drier my scalp became. So I abandoned the oiling the scalp situation years. I also realized treating yeast ...period ...reduce the flakes. I also appreciate her pointing out the difference...it not so much hair growth, as it is length retention...that's my issue. Cause hair will grow-- just how do you make it stay! So thank you. I only wished Dr. Augh was local...I would be her patient🙃

Don't apply oils on dry scalp...Mental note!!!... Learning the difference helps so much.
You can use oil on a dry scalp. You just need to know the cause of the dry scalp and to know what plant or herb to use to treat your scalp.
@sweet mint excuse me no it’s not. Some oils are used to treats. Dry scalp medicinally thank you
@sweet mint certain oils are not good for a dry scalp as I said.
