Hi Karen, I really appreciate this discussion and thought I’d chime in on the subject, and I’ll try to not make it too long. 😂 First my hair loss started right at the beginning of Covid just after receiving the 2nd vaccination. I lost an entire head of hair in under 3-1/2 weeks. By end of year 2 of the pandemic I had my first dermatology app’t and was told it could have been triggered by the vaccines! 3+ years in and 2 complete shaves (bald), I got conflicting info that it was frontal follicular alopecia by one doctor and that it definitely wasn’t by another (both working in the SAME clinic). I decided to go with doctor #2 and was put on a regimen of very low doses of minoxidil + bicalutide, an off-label med used for treating prostate cancer plus 2 micro needling sessions. I’ve never used topical minoxidil. Given the option of being bald or getting some hair back, I decided to give the treatment a chance. Five months later I’m seeing results, very slowly, but for the first time in the last four years I’m actually beginning to feel encouraged. 🙃😭🥲😍
Hey Ms Biggs! Thank you so much for sharing! That is really interesting -- did the second doctor diagnose as Frontal FIBROSING alopecia? You mentioned you shaved off your hair several times -- but was the hair loss concentrated at the front? I am so glad you finally found a regime that WORKS FOR YOU. I know that was tough. And glad you are seeing results! That warms my heart 💜
@@KarenofCurlHouse The second doctor firmly disagreed with the FFA diagnosis and though I know absolutely nothing on the subject, that inner voice/instinct makes me want to believe it is closer to whatever is going on. At this stage it’s probably impossible to know the exact reason(s) for the extreme hair loss but the general thinking is the Covid vaccination(s) perhaps triggered an underlying weakness. The entire front with the temples being the most affected all the way back to the crown, only the back third of my hair remained but was visibly thinning. I opted to shave it all off because there wasn’t any way to cover or disguise the loss on the top and front and I decided to give the treatment at least a year’s try, thinking if it triggers growth - I’m not looking for length down my back just all round healthy growth - then perhaps in time I can ease off the treatment and switch to a more holistic approach similar to what you advocate and, hopefully, maintain a full head of hair from that point onwards … that’s the hope, at least!! 🤞🏾🙏🏽😻
