- Check out our Super Pocket preview! There's never been a better time for gaming on the go, but the choices can be overwhelming and, a lot of the time, quite pricey - if you’re already going to buy an iPhone 15 Pro, great! Enjoy Resident Evil 4 Remake. But no one would pay a grand to do it otherwise. The Super Pocket is at the other end of the scale. It’s a no-fuss retro handheld that’s stylish and, more importantly, the basic edition costs less than a newly-released game. Watch our Super Pocket hands-on impressions for a detailed look at what this gaming handheld offers.
The Super Pocket release date is October 26, 2023 and it's priced at $59.95/£49.99 for the Capcom, and TAITO versions, and £119.99 exclusively in the UK for the Super Pocket Limited Edition Bundle.

@@codeonion Or Anbernic RG35XX
Evercade has been pretty successful in preventing people from cracking it. If you want a Miyoo Mini you can buy a Miyoo Mini.
@@KeenRetroGames because it's average at best, no one cares to crack evercade when you have Anbernic and others
@@miloszivkovic6256shut up
Eh generally people buy these products for the physical cartridge thing.
For emulation there's way cheaper and better options
It’s interesting how comfort doesn’t appear to be a concern at all when designing most handheld devices.
The name says it all brotha
Wouldve costed more
They already have a larger horizontal one.
But yeah it does look like the reviewer is struggling with the vertical orientation.
Imagine a slider like in games
left portability - right comfort
can't get both🙂
Someone probably will make a 3D printed grip
Great review. Do you know if arcade cheat codes work for games like Bubble Bobble (ie to use the cheat code Power up)?
Why is Puzzle Bobble there? It's not mentioned in the official games list for Taito version.
I’ll keep this in my glovebox and play it on my work break or at the DMV.
get a rd35xx or miyoo mini plus , way better
Look forward to playing Indie Heroes 3 on these.
Is the rechargeable battery replaceable once it doesn't charge?(like a mobile)...
Works Full Void (2:24) with stretch vertical image or has it a zoom in function? Want buy the game and the Super Pocket, but dont want the black borders. So maybe evercade exp is a better choice.
😮
Imagine if Nintendo did a Mini Gameboy, like the Mini NES and SNES they did a few years ago….
Why would it need to be mini? It's already small
@@davidandrew7314 mini compared to the original Game Boy. In terms of size, maybe Gameboy Pocket size.
a Miyoo mini is pretty much that
Never heard of Gameboy Micro?
Full Voids first official physical release is on a cartridge! 😱 im back in the 90s again... nostalgia heaven
Is that the same “full void” that’s on the Steam store?
@@HairyBottom if you are talking about the sci fi point and click adventure game then yes.
Taito is 17 games not 18 right? On the official site see nothing about Puzzle Bobble
My question is how were they allowed to use the evercade cartridges.
Hyper Mega Tech belongs to Blaze, the makers of Evercade. It’s the same company.
Sounds like a well thought out product. Tats cool.
Im looking for something similar that can be play emulated OR acrual gameboy pokemon cartridges for my son.
Any advice people could offer? Thanks.
Analogue Pocket the best at the moment
Just buy a RG35XX or Miyoo Mini 😂
fax
Amen to that
- Buy a Miyoo Mini+
- Buy a new Micro SD card
- Spend hours downloading ROMs, BIOS and custom firmware
- Spend more hours formatting your SD card and setting up your Miyoo Mini+ just the way you want it
- Play Pokémon Yellow
- Realise you could've done all this on your phone in the time it takes to download an app
please do share us your experience when you have played that 2 hours long
Hows the ergonomics? Holding a switch without a grip case isnt easy so hows this being tiny
A pleasure to hold and the buttons are fantastic
2:24 can anyone tell me, what game is this? looks interesting to me
Full void
Can rom's be side-loaded onto it? or is it limited to the 12 or so games that it ships with + the expansion carts? If this can't be loaded with additional games, how is it more compelling than the many Anbernic offerings that are out there? Sure, it's a neat form factor and cool licensed color scheme, but is that it?
it's for people who collect such things and people who don't bother with video games.
You buy Evercade cartridges and plug them in the cartridge slot.
The appeal is the physical cartridges and that they are licensed
This will be available from toy stores and has cartridges. It's aimed at a much more casual market that either doesn't want to or doesn't know how to download roms.
Main benefit: All games for it are officially licensed. Anbernic is likely breaking the law by preloading retro games on their devices since they don't say that they're licensed.
Old handhelds work too. Just finish one game at a time
Ever sd compatible?
Throwing some handheld names (better)
TrimUI Smart, Miyoo Mini Plus, Anbernic RG35XX..
Guess IGN can't talk about Anbernic and Miyoo and PowKiddy, etc...etc....
Because they rely on illegal stuff
The death of the 3DS and PS Vita was the saddest thing for those who just wanted button gaming on the go. Mobile is clearly terrible for tactile feedback gaming and drains your battery for important communication and work purposes. Modern solutions like the Steam deck and PC equivalents are never going to be fully suitable for portability designed around home PC gaming. Even the Switch is bulky and expensive to risk using on the go with tiny physical cartridges. Love seeing these devices that harken back to the gloriously portable yet affordable days of the GameBoy.
Puzzle bubble?
What was the game at 2:24?
full void
Just got a miyoo mini + 2 days ago. I’ll stick with that.
Yeah, I’ll enjoy my rg35xx with 256gb of retro games on it. This is cool but it’s not close.
@@Dxydrm not at all compared to anbernic or miyoo…for the same price.
Look at the light bleed on his Taito model 😬
Interesting potential with JB
Great device,i'll pick miyoo mini and rg35xx
1:20 "smaller and lighter then a classic gameboy"
Wasn't everything smaller and lighter than that?
So how long until your hands cramp 10 seconds, no way that's comfortable
So it's basically like a miyoo mini but a lot worse
this thing could become a great emulation machine to jailbreak more games on it
Meh, something like the Miyoo Mini+ or Anbernic rg35xx look like a much better buy. The only advantage are the cartridges.
@@nordyxthe cartridges are just glorified SD cards with a dozen-or-so roms on them. Might as well get a handheld with built in memory, or an sd card, that holds all your roms.
Yeaaaaaah I’m just gonna stick to my Retroid Flip
Sucker for powkiddy v90 clamshell design. And price point! OMG. But this looks cool too.
What about the iphone 15 max pro for $1800?🤔
The screen looks pretty low res.
Miyoo mini entered the room, laughed and left
Okey,i think we're on to something here
But can it run CRYSIS?
Id be interested only if someone was making new games for this platform.
There is. You can play the evercade cartridges on it. And there a developers which develope new Games for evercade.
miyoo mini plus on top
Way too expensive(in comparision what else you can get for same price) and way too small for what it is. Its only kids who could comfortable play on it - but it isnt made for them, as they woulndt appreciate retro games in most cases. So its a product that isnt going to satisfy anyone irl.
Cant wait for the mod community to make it sideloadable
Screen too small!!!!
Lmk when Pokémon Yellow comes out in it 😅
Pizza Boy app + Android and done.
Ehhhh. Miyoo mini plus or v2 is only 70 usd. That's hard to beat.
This is legal though.
I'll stick with the Miyoo Mini Plus
if they have mvc2, I'll buy it
get an anbernic or retroid. these devices are ages behind 😂
They should have make it bigger for people who have bigger hands like me...
Anyone ever heard of Miyoo Mini Plus?
Perfect stocking stuffer gift 🎁 🎄
Why not put a Ferrari in there while you're at it lol...
This is definitely an advert, even if they didn't come out and say it.
A video advertorial. This thing doesn't even have 6 buttons and doesn't run MAME...
Well, there are a lot of retro gaming devices like miyoo mini that you can even insert games up to psx with expandable sd card with less price than that
Yes, but you don’t have access to new indie retro games with those, plus having curated collections makes you play, not just collect.
If they can't be jail broken or games added via USB they're a waste of money. Just buy a gaming handheld
@@WxkR of course you have access its literally android or linux. This is just a bad product for the technology we have nowdays.
@@bdarknessgui No, you don’t bc games like Tapeworm, Flea, Donut Dodo, Alwa’s Awakening, etc. are DRM protected and have versions only for for official game platforms (Steam, Nintendo, Evercade, etc.) unlike the DRM free and pirate versions of old games that abound around the web and we play through emulators. . . unless you’re the hacker type who wants to break these independent developers.
The buttons
Seems pointless. Taito just needs to put Puzzle Bobble 1 & 2 officially on phones
“Who didn’t grow up playing coin ops of the 80’s and 90’s.”
How old is the person reviewing this?
Look for the r35s instead
Wow looks like that knockoff handled sega genesis with the terrible auto compressed

@n8ivegogo1 80% of the smartphone market?
What is thunderfoot doing here?
Yes he sounds exactly like Thunderfoot, but that's not him. It's some guy who didn't even play coin ops in the 1990s, let alone 80s. Being a Retro "Expert"

Well the rumoured conversation behind closed doors is that Sony and Microsoft might be moving to ARM instead of x86. If true you're going to have basically every game being able to run on everything.
Can you please explain this in layman terms?
How will moving to ARM will make current gen run on mobile phones?
@@Rishu-br6tw it won't be current-gen, we would be talking like 4-5 years from now. Currently in the world most devices use ARM based CPU's, the biggest Advantage is the high performance versus low power consumption.
@@Rishu-br6twIt's more a future thing. For instance gamepass becomes even more impressive if let's say you can play the same game across Xbox, PC, Android, and iOS. If the Xbox runs on arm architecture you can port it to mobile platforms much easier than today. The chips are already pretty powerful GPU wise. Concessions would be made but they will run.
needs a Nintendosega cartridge!
Go for a beautiful R36S
Anbernic rg35xx could play any games from gba to ps1, 55 usd only 😅
And you can even get them cheaper during flash sales and with coupons.
Hard to justify this when Anbernic and others provide a better value
Literally play all of these (and far more) on my Android phone, with a Backbone controller. Can emulate everything up to Switch on Android.
More importantly, can you play vita games?

@@kilik5713That's a completely different price range and not portable at all.
This is so much behind the Chinese handhelds from Retroid or Anbernic
But the point of the SuperPocket or Evercade is not to compete with those cheap emulation devices. It's about bringing back physical game collecting to new audiences with licensed retro games running on emulators specifically optimized to the hardware
@@sonang7721 What exactly makes them cheaper than this? At least from this video, it look like it's of lower build quality than something like the Miyoo Mini, and both my RG351P and my Retroid Pocket Flip are clearly better built and can play every retro game I've ever owned (including DOS games). Most of those "cheap" handhelds have community developed operating systems with every setting needed to get games from every era running great, community creaated how-to guides for every little tweak and websites and Discord servers for the devoted emulation community to share ideas and experiences. How is it better for collectors to get ripped off by a sub par device that gives them a handful of crappy games instead of their entire collection and a community to share it in?
Meanwhile, here in Asia, we have much more variety of handhelds to choose from that can even play PS3 games, with touch screens and can be connected to any monitor!
Meanwhile in asia, we pirate 🏴☠️ every single damn thing. The games in cartridges here are legally licensed, so there’s a difference. Sony wouldn’t allow a ps3 title running on emulator outside of their hardware.
As a fellow south east asian, any recommendations?
don't lie no handheld can emulate PS3 unless it has steam deck level performance costing 400$ +
We can import them to the west and many are on Amazon, up to PS2 level. Also the handheld PC systems can be imported from China.
Ah yes, the very distinct location of Asia.
Would have preferred games with SD card emulation to be possible
If they can't be jail broken or games added via USB they're a waste of money. Just buy a gaming handheld
@alexojideagu you can't play online with emulated games
@@superpig5000 You can on Retroarch and Mame but you need someone you know. Fightcade you can fight online but it's Windows and Linux only.
Anbernic via Ali express. Done.

4:35 So why does he sound 45 years old, yet he didn't even play 90s coin ops? What? How old is he then. Shouldn't someone who actually PLAYED these games be reviewing this? Hardly a retro "Expert" is he.
My Miyoo mini + is on the way
but why???? we can get all the roms on our smartphone for free....u must have a console, anbernic has better hardware and features...
Don't Look Up!
Casuals learning about emulation handhelds
It's not all just emulation tho, some of the carts you can buy are ports of new indie games that run natively on the system and not through emulation
Anbernic is the king of retro handheld, this unit looks rubbish compare to anbernic models.
Ambernic
This display is bleeding...
way too small...hard hard to see.
One word: ANBERNIC
two words: GO HOME
Two words: BUY BOTH
Doesn’t make sense to me to get this over a lot of the retro handlhelds already available.
Literally took the words out of my mouth. You could get the RG35XX for the same price and play more than what this offers.
The retroid pocket 3+ is way better than this for a bit more in price. Just have to be willing to tinker a bit
A bit more in price? It's 100 dollars more lol
@brandonsclips7741 no this device is 60$ while the RP3+ is double that with the major difference in power between the two. And you really wouldn't want that then the Miyoo mini + or the Anbernic counterpart are the same price while looking better
Apple (Jobs) once said that they are not interested in the gaming industry, yet here we are
