Any Dent Repair Technician that has to drag a tool to find it behind a panel really shouldn't be a Dent Repair Technician! The full name of PDR is Painless Dent Repair, that meant that you Repair the dent without having to apply any new paint. It Doesn't mean you drag your tool and scrape the paint off the back of the panel as that will then need repainting to get it back to a finished product. Don't Drag your Tool! Step instead! Push, read the reflection, Release, Move, Push, read, relax, move, press, Repeat, until you get to where you need to be!

Now if you don't have enough money to get a hood stand, Then yes...making a hood stand out of wood so you can practice is what you should do. But, if you are trying to teach PDR...Don't use a wood stand...Don't call a flag tool a rod because you don't know the name to it...He's calling these tools tweakers? Seriously, please do not think that this video is in anyway going to help you push a dent. Patrick Perry is right, the right tools, patience, a light touch, an experienced mentor and a ridiculous amount of hours failing which is how we learn. skrizz2 ive been an automotive painter for 20 years, but would love to learn pdr, even know onsite learning is always better id like to ask if there is a youtube channel worth studying for at least a start with this trade
This video was made before hood stands for PDR. You clearly don't know your PDR history. I was trained at this school 19 years ago. Most PDR training schools train on wood stands.
One time we had a student who was 7'2" and we constructed a special temporary hood stand out of 4x4 posts. Worked good- but not something I would go chase hail with. We used it for a campfire later that month.
