I bought a 2017 outback last week and my sister in law brought her new honda crv around today. Both 2017 models but the head units are about a decade apart. Subaru sure have a lot of catching up to do. At least the screen is a nice flat surface so i can mount a suction mount phone holder.
After using my Legacy since I got it in September I can say this system is just alright, the voice command does not work for anything except the AC and that is the easiest thing to do by hand. The most important function that the voice command could do is have it work with the GPS without to many problems, but it never works ever, I have tried using it countless times and it usually gets one of the 5-6 parts of the address correct and fixing the other issues requires you to pull over and stop the car because it is all locked out no matter what. I have only used the starlink for its weather because the regular weather never works. The regular music app works perfectly fine with my music there are a few tiny issues with it but nothing can be perfect. The Starlink just makes it inconvenient.
I know im asking randomly but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the login password. I would love any tips you can give me.
@Bjorn Douglas I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I added the Android Auto app to my Android phone and plugged it in with a wire to my brand new Subaru Crosstreck 2018. The Android Auto icon on the Starlink remains grayed out. The app never finds my car as a new car to setup. So I cannot get the map to appear on the Starlink screen. Other functions such as Bluetooth pairing work, but I must reboot my phone upon entry into the car otherwise Starlinks says there is no phone connected. What I really want is this Android Auto map to work. It's pretty sorry stuff that it doesn't work. Why????
Subaru Starlink is utter garbage (sorry). It would be "ok" if it was 2006, but these touch-screen consoles behave like they are running CPU chips from the late 1990's... It's poor systems like this that bring shame to the "Tecnica" in "Subaru Tecnica international"
well it's not working for me either. Look above. Also, the response time of the touch functions is very slow and often does not work. It's really not good. I expected better from Subaru and this is very disappointing in anotherwise pretty good car.
Bought a brand new Subaru Outback in December 2016 (in Australia). I've got a Samsung S7, S6, S4 and S2. Apps trying Starlink doesn't work with any of them using pairing or USB connection. Was told Mirrorlink on the system is incompatible by both service department and also from Subaru (via service department direct enquiry). $50,000 later with an infotainment system that's not doing what it should.
I got a Levorg '16 with Starlink and I must say it's the lowsiest exuse for a system ever. Why would I want to see my calender entries on the infotainmentscreen? I want GPS, Spotify/Google Play Music/Deezer, Waze and so on. And why the F* is Twitter available? I'm driving - not debating...
Has anyone noticed the calendar is one day off? Just look at the video which says it is Veteran's Day, Nov 10, 2014 at 3:01 of the video. Veteran's Day was Nov 11, 2014. All of my calendar appointments are one day off...just like the video. Anyone else with this issue?? Dunning Subaru - any comments??
any one can tell this system needs to pay?i got a email ask me BILLING IMFORMATION, i ever knew about it,,,,,,weeks ago my outback 2016 recall serviced, after that it seems some thing wrong of the desk board drive imformation out put,,,,then push button around,,,,,,then email come in. ,
I have a 2017 Crosstrek with the smaller screen. Starlink is utter bullshit. It is unbelievably slow and some apps that it comes with were only available in 2015. Why are they still there? Redeemable qualities are that the pandora app is nice because you can save tracks to buy later. Bluetooth connectivity is easy, but slowwwwww. I like being able to control my iPod songs from the steering wheel, but again it's sloooowwwwww. There is a lag between pressing the button and song changes. I hope the new 2017 impreza infotainment system is faster.
The goal for my 2017 Subaru Forester is to make MirrorLink work so that I can have apps that I actually use available. Starlink is not what I want. The Mirrorlink is greyed out in Apps. I saw that a young lady posted a TH-cam for a Samsung 6 and her's works. I have a Samsung 8, which could be the problem, or the MirrorLink app needs to be upgraded. That will be a challenge to get dealership to do it but I will try. Anyone make MirrorLink work with Samsung 8?
Starlink is an utter dumpster fire of bugs and vulnerabilities. I have a 2017 Crosstrek, and it has had nothing but problems since day one. In my case, the first problem was that the phone would only connect 1 out of 10 times to the Bluetooth, Once it started connecting, I am now only getting track information on Bluetooth once in awhile, no real pattern to when it will show, and not show, also does not matter if its one USB or not. I have contacted Subaru about the problems as well, and in the case they say we have noted your problem, but do not give an ETA on when we will have a fix. My theory is that the fix will be released when these cars go out of warranty, and they can charge us for the patches. This is new car, with a head unit that should never have passed Quality Assurance with the shear number of bugs and problems it had.
I want a GPS that works. This is a poor excuse for a system. A complete waste of money. I have to use my phone which is years more up to date with the mapping system as is my Garmin. (And Garmin gives an address to report errors or changes in roads or addresses.) Frequently, it tells you to turn just as you pass the road or house. Subaru includes businesses that have been closed for 8 years. Whomever they bought it from screwed them and as a result, us. I want my money back.
By the time you push the button to change the damn climate you could have just moved the knob. Ppl like you are shady. Don’t sell something that is trash
Holy crap clicking "Calendar" was the longest load time I've ever seen for anything ever.
Pantera Radio on Pandora. Sweet!
i saw that too haha didnt strike me as a Pantera fan

lol, why i should check weather or calendar in starlink if i can do it on my phone 100x faster?
Pantera radio! Hell yeah.

@Bjorn Douglas It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
@Cody Kyle glad I could help :)
Touchscreen and non-physical touch buttons... Yay. Design the radio so I absolutely have to take my eyes off the road to use it... >.>
Lodmot

I wouldn't say "garbage", but I would ask Subaru "why?". ALL of their other 2017 models have Apple Carplay.
THanks for posting, I thought it was me...
well it's not working for me either. Look above. Also, the response time of the touch functions is very slow and often does not work. It's really not good. I expected better from Subaru and this is very disappointing in anotherwise pretty good car.

i have a 2016 Impreza with the starlink system and none of this works. cant even get mirror link to work. not to mention the speakers sound terrible.
I have a 2019 Crosstrek Limited, as you can read, years later it's still shitty, my Pandora won't light up either, have to play thru phone
The latest update fixed it
I found starlink is the worst integration from subaru is completely useless. They need to go with carplay.
I got a Levorg '16 with Starlink and I must say it's the lowsiest exuse for a system ever.

music just says "no content". I have tons of music on my phone. why?
All of a sudden my maps quit.

I sell Subaru as well and this stuff is not covered in the certification process for whatever reason thank you very much for your video

I only use the radio function.... The rest of it is a joke!
Saddly I own it. One of the worst infotainment systems. Otherwise great car.
My 20 year old computer is faster than this starlink system
By the time you push the button to change the damn climate you could have just moved the knob. Ppl like you are shady. Don’t sell something that is trash
Load of crap. 2017 Forester owner. They can't even update the system to get Android auto. Old .
Some of this is cool, but most is bullshit. Setting fan speeds and temperatures....? c'mon
laggy crap system, the worst system ever seen. i got a subaru wrx pre 2018
