This was extremely helpful when I did an update just now (Aug 2024). I didn't know how to check the date on the update once I inserted the updated MicroSD card. Thank you for the easy-to-follow, informational video!
Do you know how long it took me to find you? I looked everywhere. THANK YOU! A total lifesaver. Everything I was finding was for 2018 and up. Had to pay the $59, but at least I found it. Thank you, Again.
I have a 2015 Legacy and it says the cost will be $59 for the update. If I change it to a 2016 it says the cost is free. Will I corrupt my SD card if i say i have a 2016?
I have subary legacy 2016. It is very basic. Does Gen2 Headunits include apps like google maps, apple maps, carplay? Or is this only for a pre loaded static maps
2016 did not have google maps / Carplay. Some models (not sure about base model) have ' MirrorLink' but I was never able to make it work successfully and consistently so gave up.
i accidently corrupted my micro sd card and subaru uk want £300 for an 8gb card. i have the maps backed up on subaru tool but cannot access them as card is corrupt. can anyone suggest a way of getting card back up again.
Apparently I've missed my window to update the maps for free. They should at least let you update your maps to the last version that was avail during your time frame. I didn't even think about updating the maps until now. Have had the car for slightly over 3 years now. :(
Awww and here I was hoping you could load music on the card so that I wouldn't need to connect my device via bluetooth. I was just trying figure out what the heck it was there for.
Boooo! Went through all the trouble to connect and register and it's $59 for a one time update. Not being tech savvy makes the world a lot more expensive for people. I am going to look for a video that shows you how to do it w/o all the BS fees. -Not that I don't like the video, great video to show how to do it the legit way. I'm complaining about Subaru, I guess, and a little about how the world works. Thumbs up :D
Yes, I am showing how to do it the legitimate / real way . When this option came out , it was full of wrong instructions and things not working, which is why I made this video. Some people do get several years for free when they purchase the car, thereafter, there is a charge for the update. I find that you do not need to update every year after your free updates are done. My free option expired last year and I did not find that I have any map that really needs to be updated. Remember, they are one year old anyway from the date of update. If it is $59 in a few years, I will consider doing the update. The map updates from other manufactures used to be very expensive, so when it is time to update, $59 is fair IMO. Many folks simply use their phone now so seeing the price come down a bit is nice.
@Nuby29 No I didn't buy it, after moving, the map is accurate for the area, and there is now way I'm going to buy a freaking map for $59. There apparently are ways to get free updated maps, although I'm not sure of its legality. Good luck on your search.
This no longer works and NaviExtra no longer provides updates. Plus the maps SUCK. I live in Tulsa, OK and so many of the addresses are missing, it makes the unit almost completely useless. VERY disappointed in Subaru.
Go ahead.... go ahead... go ahead... go ahead... 🙉😩 I don't wish to make you overly self-conscious, and maybe it's just me, but I found that _very_ distracting. I'm guessing you're not even aware you do it, as we don't hear our own quirks. The phrase is useful when not worn out --- IMO & FYI. At least you weren't saying "literally," which makes me even crazier. I'd comment on the procedure too, but the Toolbox program is for Windows and OSX, and I use Linux, so I'll have to find another way.

You are welcome! Glad this was helpful.
Thanks, after doing it 2 years ago I forgot how. Made notes this time and saved the link to this video.
When I insert the sd card it isn't recognised by the software (but is registered by windows). Is there anything I can do?
hello! you know if it is possible to do the update for subaru impreza 2015 limited
I have a 2015 Legacy and it says the cost will be $59 for the update. If I change it to a 2016 it says the cost is free. Will I corrupt my SD card if i say i have a 2016?
Can you update me on what happened I also have a 2015
Thank you! Your video is the best information than all the rest!
Thanks!
Thanks for this helpful video. Much appreciated.
Thank you for the informative video. It was easy to follow and it worked... Subaru's website did a poor job with their lack of detailed instructions.
I am glad you have found it helpful! Thank you for you feedback!
Am I able to add another country? Have both US and Mexico on there?
I have Gen 1 2014 WRX maps but it won't update maps no matter what software I have tried.
Looking for updated website... crosstreks only cap out at 2017. Is there a new resource with the same material for newer vehicles? @coloradoRMN
Subaru may have changed map suppliers. New ones may use newer vendor. Check with Subaru or dealer.
Great video man! Used it on a 2015 Legacy 2.5i limited I just purchased and now my maps are all up to date! Thank you again!
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you found it helpful!
Is there a way to make it voice activated.
Can it work in the Turkey if i do that
They put the SD card slot right next to the CD slot 😱 what could possibly go wrong...

When I go to the website I could not find my country which is Australia??
May be there is a different site for AUS? Check with local dealer to confirm the right site for AUS.
I have lost my card is there anyway to create your own from scratch?
I do not think so, as they are encrypted.
Thanks from Italy
You are welcome!
Nice - thanks. Is this only an update to the maps? is there any updates for the system itself ? maybe new or updated features?
This is maps only.
i accidently corrupted my micro sd card and subaru uk want £300 for an 8gb card. i have the maps backed up on subaru tool but cannot access them as card is corrupt. can anyone suggest a way of getting card back up again.
What did you do to fix? i have a corrupt card also. Can i just download the updates?

You can try and e-mail them to see if they can do anything and if you were eligible. Not sure if it will work but worth a try .
Thanks, it worked great!
Great! Glad you found the video helpful!

I was just trying figure out what the heck it was there for.
You can add music to a USB drive and play it that way, as we have 2 USB ports.
Thank you!
You are welcome! Glad it helped.
i was wondering if that voids the warranty
No. This is the official process.

Thank you for the constructive feedback - I appreciate it. Next video will be better. Have a great day and thanks for your comment.
@@ColoradoRMN Thank _you_ for the kind words in light of my criticism, which was indeed meant to be constructive. You also have a great day.
