    By far my favorite Rush song ever. I'm not sure if Neil hit the hi-hats with his stick or if it was a foot click, but I could never get the foot click to sound right, so I've always hit the hats in that part too. Glad to see I'm not alone. BTW isn't it nice to be an adult and be able to afford to have that kind of kit and a toy room to play it in? Lovely kit. They sound great!

      Thanks! that room is my midlife crisis. I always wondered that too, the two book I have of transcriptions say its a hi hat hit but I wasn't sure until I saw a video of Neil playing it. th-cam.com/video/nfpZGtr9BiU/w-d-xo.html - go in at 2:28 and you will see he is hitting the hat

    Very well done Danny!! I've always found the bridge part with the ride and high hat exchange challenging because I've always used my foot for the hi hit chick, I'll have to try it with my left hand. This is Mike Ronzio by the way..

    Your r30 kit sounds better than Neil’s. I never cared for the way any of his DW kits sounded except for maybe his Snakes and Arrows kit. He must’ve heard something in those drums though to keep endorsing the brand. My favorites are the Counterparts and RTB kits. They had all of the vocal range. Most of Neil’s drums sound the same except for his 8. 10 and 18" toms. Every other drum is hard to pick out their tonality. DW crafts so beautiful drums though. They’re literally works of art.

    • @Powerhauze
      @Powerhauze 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do have to say I agree....the actual drum sound did not improve when he started using DW...but then again, we all know that proper Drum Technicians are half the sound!

    Clearly your drums aren't mic'd, how do you pick up the drums/cymbals?

    • @DigitalMan_2112
      @DigitalMan_2112  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recorded it first with the mics and went back and looked at the video and you really couldn't see me or the kit well (especially from the front) with all the stands and wires in the way. So after recording the audio I re-recorded the video with out the mics in the way and just used the audio from my first recording over the top of my second recording without the mics. Make sense?

    • @scottishwarrior3438
      @scottishwarrior3438 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DigitalMan_2112 gotcha, my original thought was all internal shell mics. But nevertheless the kit sounds great. Sounds similar to my old 1980s Tama superstar kit I used to have that was setup to resemble Neil's 1987 double bass setup.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DigitalMan_2112 😮how you remembered every single part recording without the mic’s?

    My name is Chuck, I happen to be on my wife's phone for now,. but my God those drums sound killer, I'm using a good quality ear phone, and that bass drum literally went through me, that thing has a deep but nice resonance to it, awesome and you play really good, I've been playing drums since I was 12 I'm 52 now and still rip the skins,. I love it sounded great, how long did it take you to finish the project if I may ask,

    • @Jasper_Drummer
      @Jasper_Drummer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something felt off about this recording to me. I think he played this on his electronic kit behind him, rather than the acoustics. At 0:55, the first crash is higher in pitch than the second one. This doesn’t make sense because he hits an 18” and then a 16”, which should be low to high, not high to low. There are also no close mics in the kit, yet it sounds like the drums are close mic’d. Finally, Sabian Paragon rides are incredibly dry, this one had way too much wash to be the actual paragon.
      Professional Analysis Complete.

    • @Jasper_Drummer
      @Jasper_Drummer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I forgot to mention that the splash that he hits at 0:41 sounds very much like a China cymbal, rather than a small splash.
