I’m new to line through swim baits. I just bought a 41/2” zman shadtron and it came with a custom straight shank hook that you rig through the top or you can buy a treble and rig it through the bottom. What size hook would you recommend?

Yes I can agree with this through trial and error and a lot of wasted time to figure it out. In the summer up North when a storm front has rolled through and it’s still raining, slow rolling a willow leaf on 15-20 ft flats during the middle of the day will catch some big ones. Slow rolling a black spinnerbait at night where you’ve located good fish during the day that wouldn’t bite is also deadly. Especially during the spawn and the Fall.

Love your videos but can't afford to fish anymore. I'm 43 and autistic from Kentucky. I can't even afford to get my medicine or food. Sorry I am rambling. I used to have all kinds of spinner baits and loved the slow rolling. I have 3/4 ounce. Number 9 blade did really good for me. Love these makes remember how I used to be able to fish. Can someone pray for my family and of anyone need anything made from Paracord I can make anything. Trying to raise money for my family. As a father and husband I'm desperate.

I use sun line flouro and vicious both work fine and 0 wind knots . Casting straight flouro main line ! That is for Trout as well. And trust me that even spooks some fish I’m sure Bright yellow line with a bait trailing with an invisible gap would definitely spook fish .

I mixed Bait fuel, Berkley gulp and multiple mashed fresh garlic cloves. And I have the utmost confidence in it.

I start my day with about a 14 foot leader and end the day wwith close to 10 or 12 foot leader. I cant affoed to respool 2 or 3 times a year floro is expensive

Guys, do yourself a favor and get on TH-cam and search Bayou Bandit. I think it’s tilted the 15 second braid to flour knot.once I found it I began using it and have YET to have a knot failure. It’s small, smooth, and extremely quick. I have peripheral neuropathy and I can tie it in 30 seconds including trimming tag ends. I certainly see where Randy has point but if you do it correctly, there are a ton of benefits. Straight fluorocarbon has its place for some. For me it’s only for crank baits and crappie fishing.

I've heard you bring this up before and I'll say, kastkings triplomer endorsed by Bill dance has made me being spooling every reel I habe with it. I no longer am planning on using braid to a leader on either casting or springing reels. It's amazing stuff and is taking the place of berkely big game and p line flouro for me.

I understand the points you're making, but this reminds me of guys that have been talking about the stock market crashing for the last 2.5 years always saying it's coming and it went on to rally the biggest it has in 100 years. If the top pros in the game thought it was advantageous to use straight fluorocarbon they would. If there aren't major advantages to it then no one would do it and you're trying so hard to get people not to use it because of your own experience. It's a lot like someone who got killed in the stock market one time that has been trying to get everyone else away from it because of their own unique experience. The market generally goes up and to the right most of the time because the rest of the world understands that it's much better to be invested than to stop because of risk. In this case you've seen people who suck at tying knots costing them fish and seeing people too lazy to retie leaders losing fish and came to the conclusion that it's best to never use it. If it works better for you great, but ever since I switched I've gone from losing so many fish on spinning tackle that I didn't use them at all to loving them again by using braid to fluoro.

You need to learn better knots because braid to leader is all I fish in Florida with 0 issues

I am confused by the reference to gaining “better stretch”, because so many of your videos say to simply start reeling and don’t jack the strike set. The soft tip on the rod would seem to give you sudden demand on the line. The other point that is not discussed is the notion that you need different line weights for different lures. The solution is not to have 20 rods and reels, just tie on 20 feet of leader for line you need. If you say tie Fluor to Fluor, what knot would you use? If it’s the FG this is the same problem as tying in the wind with bad eyesight. Frayed lines are not a big issue for us weekend warriors, and my water is stained and olive green braid is very hard to see. I don’t know why you would use yellow.

I use braid to copolymer line for crappie fishing. I find that because the braid floats and the tie line sinks it gives the bait a nice pendulum swing when retrieving

I’ve been using a leader for at least 20 years. I got the idea from the salt guys. I feel the advantages FAR outweigh the disadvantages. No wind knots. I’m a line watcher and being able to see the bright braid is super important. The sensitivity is undeniable. The added sensitivity is actually bad for some people. I feel like most don’t adjust their rod choice too. You have to power down to deal with the lack of stretch. It’s a no brainer for me.

If you can't tie an FG fast and consistently, you shouldn't use it. But otherwise it's better, it lasts longer, more sensitive, and cheaper. That said, yellow braid will cost you bites fish see it 100% facts especially in clear water.

I really like braid to fluoro but, I have had problems keeping fish on when using moving rubber swim baits. That includes regular swim baits and flukes. I suspect, as RB says that I pull the bait out of their mouths and if they jump, I do not have enough give in the system and the fish will throw them. Especially smallies. I regularly retie my leader knot and can do so quickly. However I still on very rare occasions break at that knot. My plan is to fish my hard baits and bottom bouncers with braid-fluoro, which I don't have any trouble with and like the sensitivity. I will use straight fluoro with my vertical moving rubber baits. I will adjust from there. I appreciate RB's tips. He keeps me thinking, which I like.

Some of the Copolymer lines are superior. They use Floro outer shell and another polymer core. Just as invisible as Floro but MUCH more supple and less prone to snarls.

You must have seen my comment about the spinning rigs. Im 65 and have never owned a spinning reel setup,but decided to add a couple recently. I just ordered 2 spinning rods from Tackle Warehouse but haven't decided on reels yet. I have never used braid before either because some have said it was hard on the rods eyelets. Like you said everyone seems to use braid to floro so I was just wanting an opinion on straight floro. Thanks

I use braid to floro no problems since I use Shimano.

No wind knots since braid to fluorocarbon

I use dark braid and color it out so I can run straight braid. I'm trying to get all my gear back, especially if I'm fishing dirt shallow, and braid helps with that.
