Wet Coat for the win! I use it and love the self cleaning properties and the gloss that it gives. Simply amazing and worth every dollar
Another brilliant video I’ve always used autoglym polar seal and never had a problem with it and found it to be amazing and my customers have always wowed about it.
I love Gyeon products too,their marketing is also fantastic! None of my cars have wheelcoatings...I use Wetcoat every two washes and it makes cleaning the wheels so much easier...I used Wetcoat for several years on my Estoril blue BMW and absolutely loved it. The only reason I stopped using it on bodypanels was because I wanted to try something new. I believe Wetcoat adds a nice gloss,hydrophobicity and makes cleaning the car much easier. Who needs a real coating when you apply Wetcoat regularly??? It can be used to maintain a coating but I think it’s a very good standalone product too...

With an internet saturated by everything American, its so refreshing to see these videos explained exactly how you'd expect things to be explained to you, especially if you're British. I follow what John says so precisely, the information just goes in and stays there. It even reminds me of early top gear where they used to provide consumer advice, in a time when Jason Dawe used to do his bit on the best current bargains haha

Wet coat gets the thumbs up from me here in our very cold climate in Helsinki. The self cleaning properties are indeed there and means in a way I don't wash the car too often throughout the winter. Thanks again Jon for yet another great video! You are really doing the biz on these shoot outs.
Perfect summary of gyeon wet coat, being a detailer myself I try a ton of products and for me hydrophobic protection means nothing if it gets buried in a day, I've tried the famous Meguiars on my personal vehicle and it's a solid consumer product but it's not a consumer friendly and I've even had slight trouble with the residue it can leave behind but it can hide swirls which is totally a Meguiars thing to do.
My summary is:
Polar seal - Ease of use/Value
Turtle Wax - Value/ Powerful
Meguiars - Awesome looking/ great hydrophobicity
Gyeon - Great self cleaner/ powerful
These are the ones I've personally tried and somehow Gyeon just wins it every time 👍🏻

spot on yer.. ironcially ease of use or less risk of streaking is more important to a pro than the consumer or guy at home as the pros reputation is on the line.
I love this channel. Jon never change dammit. When all these other channels are fluffing reviews for money you're one of very few who maintains integrity in this business and I love it!
I switch between Sonax and Gyeon Wet Coat as a wet application as they're both awesome. I tend to use a dedicated wash mitt to wipe them over the panel once spraying a couple of streams per panel. Levels the product nicely and takes seconds. Works a treat. Nice vid as always!

I’ve been using KCx PW for about a year and I absolutely love it. Wet Coat deserves the top spot for sure, but don’t sleep on PW. I have several large SUVs to maintain, and applying PW with a foam cannon is even easier/quicker/safer than Wet Coat. Never had any streaking or filming and I have very hard water.
I dunno if there’s any KCx science to it but I get great gloss and hydrophobics using AF / NMS / PW every wash.
Koch chemie just released the s0.03 hydro sealant, I will buy it at some point and test it. First I have to finish the Labocosmetica Beneficia, which btw I prefer it to gyeon wet coat in terms of performance and is cheaper also.
Sonax and McKees37 Hydro blue have always been my go to's due to longevity, gloss and hydrophobicity. Great review!

Sam's Detailing ceramic boost is good btw and more user friendly in comparison to Wet Coat and Hydro 2 Lite.

I have used wet coat by gyeon for years, I bought a new car last year took it to my retailer for a full car refinement and coated with gyeon MOHs. I wash it at least once a month using wet coat as a top coat type thing and it’s perfect, no swirls no marks on the paint at all with its self cleaning and hardness I don’t have to apply any pressure to get any dirt off.
yes, its good isnt it Big Al. like as well as it not clogging up it just seems like it helps keep the car a bit cleaner..

I used the Turtle Wax dry and shine last weekend for the 2nd time, first time I used it went perfectly fine and was fantastic, great beading and lasted very well.
2nd time I used it I over applied it and I made an absolute mess, found the easiest way to clear it up was with a quick detailer and for the glass some glass cleaner.
It also made a mess of all the rubbers as well so I had to clean them too.
Lesson learnt, don't over apply and thoroughly rinse it down If you do.
I will still use it I just need to learn to apply it right.
a lot of people have said very similiar things. I keep it away from glass. I just do one sort of mist on a panel and rinse off with hose in other hand.. and obviously make sure car is loaded with surface water and nice and cool. and I give it a good towel down.. but yer its easy to mess up I think. TW and megs hardest to apply without risk of bad applciation cheers kyle.
I’ve been using Gyeon wet coat since it’s release and I’ve found that chasing 2-3 sprays around a panel with a fresh wash mitt and clean water before rinsing with a power washer is the way to go 👍
Defo Kris that will help spread it.. wet clean plush microfiber works as well.
Do you rinse out the cloth between panels? Also is the cloth reusable after a machine wash or does the wet coat gum it up?

Towel or mitt will be fine afterwards. It won’t “gum up” whatsoever.
Love wetcoat, used essence and think its amazing and reduces the cost per use.

i have used Wet Coat through a snow foam gun, particularly in windier conditions with excellent results. 30ml in 4/500ml of water and keep blasting to rinse off & flush out the foam gun bottle.and then dry all the glass first.. Never had any problems at all.

I use Gyeon Wetcoat on some maintenance washes.
I have a video showing a couple of application methods and found that instead of spraying directly onto the panel and rinsing off, I spray it onto a wash mitt and wipe it round, then rinse.
If not, I’ve found that it sometime stains the panels. You also use so much less protector when spraying it onto the wash mitt.
I fancy giving the Koch protector wax a go next 👍🏼
this tip is great, Ive talked about a similiar thing use a wet microfiber and spray and spread to make the film, you can get better film formed.
that's why I use Griots 3 in 1 ceramic wax. goes on everything including glass plastics. trim etc effortlessly with no streaking and lasts through many chemical washes.
On your advice Jon I purchased the TW Rinse & Dry after being a huge fan of Gyeons Wet Coat. I cannot fault the TW stuff. I do see the same in what you say with Wet Coat in that even as it gets dirty it retains its hydrophobicity through the dirt better.
Regardless bang for buck I cannot fault the TW and it's my winner. Add to that if you apply it by misting 1-2 spritz on the panel, one on a wet MF cloth then spread and rinse... lucky if you use 20ml of product on an average sized car. Works out something ridiculous like 16p per application and as you are leveling it as you spread, reduces the risk of streaks etc to practically 0 in my experience.

Nice tip! I think I might try to spritz, wipe, rinse on my next application of TW. I'd like to try Wet Coat in the future but don't think I'll need any for a while as I've got 2.5 bottles of the TW to get through now! lol
If I am doing a maintenance wash I like Gyeon Bathe+, it adds a layer of protection while you wash. So far it's the only wash soap with such claims I have used that actually works.
TW is the winner for me, so cheap and so easy to use and it just works! Readily available too! 🏆
Great video Jon. I used the Turtle Wax "Dry & Shine" today and did as you advised, a panel at a time with the aid of a clean damp microfibre cloth and power washed it off. Great result. Love it!

I recently bought the Megs Hybrid Ceramic Wax and I admit I hated it initially. I never over applied but simply couldn’t get it off the panels leaving a decent finish.
I even tried Sandro’s recommendation of applying to a dry car, which was even worse.
Watching one of Megs newer how to videos made the penny drop, the carry is essential soap! The secret is to wash off the carrier.
This adds a step to the process but it seems to work reliability. Wash the car, rinse and leave wet. Spray every panel, using very little product (bottle well shaken). Wipe in completely using a microfibre (like the base layer application). Now rinse the car thoroughly (power washer or hose), then finally towel dry.
Wiping in, spreads the product evenly and the second rinse, removes the carrier, which I think is the cause of the application difficulties.
hey there Ive only applied it a couple of times on cars but tested it about 3-4 now. When I applied it first on the golf I just washed and rinsed and go tthe car 95% dry with a towel. then used a wet microfiber pad to work in some product to a section of panel. I just made sure I had a decent thin film.. then buffed. I realiseyou dont or shouldnt buff it to a high and dry shine.. just level it and leave it. Then the next day the car is awesome and repelling well. that seems to work for me.
when spraying and rinsing key I think is just mist small amounts on and blast around.. rather than sort of end up with a big puddle of white product which is not spread. pressure washer important yer.
totally agree with what you are saying you just need to make some adjustments. but once you got it layed out it seems to last well.
John, thanks for the reply. I actually followed your instructions (which are similar to guard and gloss) but I am definitely seeing better results by rinsing off the carrier.

Really informative video 👍 I was detailing my dads car and was in a rush to finish. So I sprayed and rinced Turtle wax dry & shine on the car and then took it for a quick dive like the bottle said. When I got back the car was covered front to back with dark streaks. Took me forever to get thsm off. Over all it's an amazing product. Just don't drive to dry it.
yes and to be fair all you did was follow the instructions. so it has perhaps an issue there. its something that needs to be applied carefully.
I learnt from my mistake. I towl dried the wifes car after I did hers next and wow, what a difference. Thanks for the video and look forward to the next installment.
I used a full bottle of Turtlewax Dry & Shine for one application! I first did it on my wheels then rinsed it off and re applied it on my wheels. I then did it on my car and thought i had to cover the whole panels and then did it a second time. But i got amazing results. The slickness of it is something ive never seen before and the beading is crazy! I have alot of car detailing products but nothing i have compares to TX D&S

this product is really really cool isnt it. genuinly cool.. when I first used it and toweled the car down. it was the way the towel felt on the car which impressed me.. the car also looked great and was beading like crazy.. And you can buy it for £3.50..
people are correct you do need to be careful with it.. I dont really use it near glass.. and if you use too much its critical to blast away all the excess which you will see as like "white" liquid flying off the car when you rinse.. but yer this is a great product for an incredible price.

Thanks for a great video John. I personally use Meguiars HCW in a dry application which really helps to see the high spots and allows you to buff them off with a microfiber cloth. Less product waste too. Water beading is fantastic.
Great Comparison as always Jon, I personally use Gyeon Wet Coat for all the same reasons you stated, it's just a great all round product that maintains the car appearance longer due to the self cleaning properties. Some great products coming to the market recently.

I leave my classic mini parked out in all weathers and it has Maguires ceramic wax Applied to it. My mini always looks clean without “wetting it down” after, in my opinion it self cleans brilliantly. It’s been parked for 3 weeks and it’s clean and is clean still.
Sonax spray and seal for me, been really impressed with the durability of it. I've used the TW stuff on a neighbours car that had bsd on it previously and I don't think the panels kept enough water on them before I could wash them free of the product. It did leave it streaky. But for price you really can't complain.
I've not used anything other than Auto Glym as it's so easy to use and lasts a few months, and you only use 40ml so a good price . Thanks for the video 👍
I thought at first what a great idea for my ceramic coated car but if used then it rains shortly after the water spotting is so bad the only way to remove is to machine polish so I don’t or would never bother with them again.

I would only recomend wet coat for coated Car peter.. but also use somethign like cure or reload or C2v3 to solve the spotting vulnerability not a spray and rinse one your right mate.

Brilliant video, would have been nice to see carpro hydro02 light and kkd purity x which is highly regarded as one of the best of these type of products, also another one that is very good and people don't know about is cartect water repellent which is fantastic, as regards sonax spray and seal its worth mentioning its 750ml as opposed to some of the others at 500ml etc and also you can get it for around £10 from autodoc, infact at the moment it's £8.71 on their, and i also realise you can't test all of them lol, good works as always anyway john.
Agree about the Megs. I found it tricky the first couple of times I did the spray and rinse application. Quick spray, then at it with the pressure washer.
Quite surprised with low scores of koch PW. I am happy with this one so far as a winter sucrificial. It bumps the looks but requires some time to bond/net. It shines like crazy on a uni red paint. This is not a fine carnauba look, I would call it plasicky, but it does the synthetic shine thing realy well. It is not slick to touch at all. Also, cost effectivness. This is 1:100 so 1 liter gives a hundred, spraying this by hand sprayer you are using up to a 0,5ltr, 200 applications, 20 pounds a liter in queens money :) Also, never had a smallest issue on glass - I was using this even after having a good prewash, only! Then air-drying my car at some excesive speed ;)
I know it’s cheap and most people think it’s rubbish but as a drying aid you should have factored daemon shine it’s shrinks up standing water as soon as it hits it’s the only thing I use it for and it’s very cheap
its just not a spray and rinse sealant Dale. But I like demonshine as well for a retail ready to roll thing its not bad.. its slick as well when it dries.
I've been enjoying using the autoglym polar seal the ease of application makes it so fast to apply and can't really over apply it using a lance.
I've been using dry and shine over the top of seal and shine. Great combo, bomb proof nature of seal and shine with better gloss of dry and shine, hard to beat.
Is the seal and shine the black and red bottle from TW? Dunno what the difference is between the them and what lasts longer. Also have you tried either on alloys and if so how long do they last and would you say the product works?

@@Mogsy28uk would be a good comparison video. I've used aqua coat which i like and ceramic hybrid wax which I'm not a big fan of. It seems to do next to nothing on glass, where as aqua coat is very good on glass
I have a bottle of Auto Finesse Aqua Coat which I have yet to try, had forgotten all about it until I read your posts so cheers for that!
I agree with using "consumer grade" products as a pro. For me it just comes down to price to performance. It doesn't matter what the category is, it is just about getting the best results for the best price. Some products I use are very expensive but they are worth it to me for the use case, some products I use are super cheap and perform just as good as the "PRO" versions for far less money.
Hyprid ceramic wax: I got best result when sponge wiped 1 sparay on a panel and preasure rinsed. Dry & shine: Spay a mist on wet surface and you can dry it super fast and super dry. The water just dont stay on the surface.
used to use Gyeon Bathe+ and Wetcoat combo, but tried TW Dry & Shine a few times, and its just as good and half the cost! Same rules apply, as you said, don't apply too much.

I'd love to see you try EZ Car Care's "Insta-Gloss". They have three spray and rinse sealants, but the "Insta-Gloss" is the "special" one in my opinion. It leaves incredible gloss and a beautifully slick finish. You apply it with a foam lance.
I'm still using Wetcoat on top of Moonlight based on your recommendation a while ago and not changing any time soon! Was worried it hadn't made the top 4 but a nice surprise at the end there.

Excellent vid, well done, just bought a bottle of Turtle Wax Spray and Shine and it is brilliant, I always use Autoglym products as well as their Polar Seal product but the Turlte Wax to me works brilliantly

you could argue it deserved to consider you can get it for £4.70 for 750 ml. when like wet coat is 18 quid for 100ml. but I dont know theres never like a perfect answer to this. just interesting debait and opinion and some tests which hopefully demo the areas of performance we might be interested in.

Be carefull with the wet coat, i have been using it for a while. I loved it! Loved! Not love. When the botle was close to empty i startet notice spots on My paint. It looked almost like clumps of wax, and it realy hard to remove with a towle. Aside for that, great product👍🏽
I think you do have to be carefull with it. Im convinced it has hardeners in there as well.. but whatever material it lays down it does offer self cleaning I think. Very good stuff. I also keep it away from glass and trim as well.

Fvi E36 for the life of me I cannot decide which I like better between Hydro02 and gyeon. to me it is all about gloss and maybe self cleaning.
I picked up the turtle wax rinse wax thought I followed the instruction but it left an oil on water staining on the whole car which was extremely difficult to remove. It survived surfex hd, meguairs wash plus and was finally removed with exteme level dilution of turtle wax max power. Im sure this was user error but havent used it since as a result.
I was actually using Sonax spray & seal, but I changed for Beadmaker. I may go back to the Sonax because I have 2 bottles left.. my worry was: could I apply one product on top of the other ! with Sonax first it was OK. Now I am afraid I would have to really do a strip wash to start it all over again. My first layer is always Collinite 845. But the ease of application of a spray and seal product is really nice....

I've used turtle wax's new ice spray wax as a drying aid after maintenance wash, like maybe a couple sprays a panel max is all I need and it looks great.

I imagine that over in U.K. your Turtle Wax Dry and Shine is our version of TW Ice Seal N Shine. It's very resilient , for sure, and I've seen videos from your compadres here in the States that rivals or beats the new TW Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating. I'm sure your tests will follow soon enough. 👍
Ed Ruiz The UK equivalent of ICE Seal N Shine is Turtle Wax Hybrid Sealant. The bottle is styled very much like the USA version. I can't see an equivalent for Dry and Shine in the ICE range.

Great review yet again John, you could quantify the “slickness” with a friction test, put a known weight on a P.T.F.E. Block, and pull it across the surface with a spring balance.
Just as an aside, I don’t seem to be able to properly clean my car in less than 3 Hours, and I’m sure it’s just poor technique, how about a tutorial for us newb detail freaks.

the trick is to not clean it properly :) I tend to spend an hour if I can ive been really lazy this winter... but yer to clean a car properly can really take a loooong time.. I sort of do little jobs on it.. so like one week I might just do the engine bay properly.. once a year wheels off and do arches etc... Im generally loosing my sort of enthusiasm to really clean it a lot now... but that might come back in summer :)
Guess I could split it into 3, and do front, centre, and rear on alternating weeks, with wheels at week 4...........that way I’ll only be cleaning the car once a Month 😂😂😂😂😂

Excellent video Jon, Just superb. I've tried quite a few of these types of things so it's nice to see you find similar results to me or at least in a similar way. One application method I've become very fond of over the years is to use a separate fresh wash mitt and use it to spread the products over the panels prior to rinsing off. I find this vastly reduces any problems with over application but also teaches you how much you actually need. The Gyeon works amazingly well this way, Seems even more glossy somehow but the Turtle Wax is crazy. You don't need much but gloss & water behavior is ridiculous. Quite impressed by it. You're right though, You just gotta be careful, But when you are they're brilliant products.
I felt sure right up until the end that Sonax was going to win! Great review as always Jon though I am struggling to see the point of this category of products. Am I right in thinking they are aimed at people who want to clean their car, apply this, rinse, dry and then do nothing else on top?
Is it safe to put anything else on top, say an si02 product? Is there any point? Are there things that you should definitely not put on top?
For relatively new to the game people like me there is a danger of layering product after product after product through lack of understanding or more likely total confusion which may be a total waste of money and time or worse may ruin any results or maybe even not be good for your paintwork.
I wish someone would come up with a kind of flow chart of product categories and systems to follow if you get what I mean?
I mean you don't want to go through all the stages of cleaning your car and prepping it (and there are enough potentially confusing stages in each of those phases let's face it!) and then ceramic coat it, wax it, detail spray it, si02 it, paint seal it etc etc etc do you? You need to choose a route to go down and not duplicate results or apply totally unnecessary products to get zero improvement or even reduce your results.
Now who do we know that has the technical knowledge and a good enough analytical mind to produce such a flow chart type thingamajig? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
these are adding protection mate, it would be overload to then apply protection. I also think things like wet coat benefit from being left alone. I think it cures more.
these products are a way of applying the car as you dry, and help drying the car. Its a lazy way of applying protecting.. its kind of nice but you need to be carefull. specially with glass and streaking.
I agree with your statement of Meguairs self cleaning properties, my car the whole night in the car pot under the rain and where the rain dropped from the balcony it will not bead until I clean it, has the rest of the car specially around the doors. I have used Meguairs ultimate wax and that would stay shiny, cleaner and beading qualities for much longer, not sure if mixing the two together will give the ultimate protection has the protection of Hybrid is good has foundation and the wax will keep the dirt and elements out, m2c. Cheers.
Excalibur's sword 🗡️ is TW but Gyeon is as always a very good product, but I am sticking with Turtle 🐢 Wax.

I think Sonax are really underrated, a lot of their products out perform much more expensive products from other manufacturers.

i spray geon wetcoat on glass and it works good. But i use a pressure washer to rinse which is critical to use
I'd like to have seen CarPro HydrO2 Lite but I guess it's very close to Wetcoat anyway. I hate these things splattering or rolling down onto the windscreen, or any windows really. (I use Angelwax H2Go on windows). To get round this, I apply to the bonnet and below as a light mist but remove with the Hozelock multi attachment rain spray. There is not much pressure so no splashback but it's enough to apply the product correctly. For the roof and pillars, I apply with a light mist and damp microfibre then buff with a dry one. End result is a shiny, well protected car with no weird window splatter. If you do splatter the windscreen and see it in sun/rain, it will come off with clay BTW.
We need to see Waxedshine on this channel. Aquabead is easily the best for slickness, gloss, and durability.
I've never seen anything beat wet coat, and don't expect to see anything beat it anytime soon.
