TW Seal and Shine I find can streak. Also recently found TW Ceramic Spray generally quite hard work to apply, some streaking and snagging on removal.

Tip I've found with seal and shine is after many tried methods, I do a "Mr Miyagi" (sp?) but wax on and off simultaneously. I start on the bonnet (or roof, any big panel) with dry cloth and two sprays on the panel. I then use the applicator in one hand to spread it and follow it with the buffing cloth in the other hand. I've found this doubles the working space of the product as the panel is big and any tiny excess goes into the cloth. Then subsequent panels get one spray as the cloth will progressively saturate. I've found this gives consistent results so for me, saves time, and product. Sometimes there's enough in the cloth to do the last panel or two with no spray needed. In my case, I was using too much and in warmer conditions (not hot) not talking into account weather/wind etc. Even their instructions are too much, I learned to use less than they suggest as they don't account for the cloth soaking product the longer you go on, and that we don't use two new cloths every panel or be able to bring the car indoors.

@Tyler Durden I like griots too, I have been testing it on a family members car and I like it better than tw seal&shine, i struggle with streaking using tw ceramic spray too but I'm hoping it will last longer than griot's 3 in 1.

I to have struggled with the turtle wax ceramic spray and seal and shine. I used a damp with water microfiber and it removed the streaking. It's hard not to think your removing the product but that's what the directions say to do. They do last awhile though.

Great advice Jon, personally only ever had streaking with Sealant sprays rather than a QD, TW Sealant was bad for streaking but with hard work I got it to go on evenly. I’ve stopped using it now though. I personally use AD Supersonic Nano Hybrid spray sealant and never had any issues with it, my biggest issue that I have come across is applying too much product in my humble opinion that’s the biggest problem, with a lot of these sprays less is more 👍

Geyon Wet Coat i have found does streak if you follow the manufacturers instructions. What i do is... immediately post wash. Wet one panel. Lightly spray wet coat onto panel. Use a microfibre to evenly spread it over the entire panel. Then immediately Jet wash that panel. Then move onto the next panel. It will then dry streak free. Plus you can be sure the panels are fully covered with the product. As opposed to the manufacturers method of spreading it over the car by means of a jet wash...

Had a nightmare with Meguiars XPress Spray Wax. Awesome gloss on cold panels but It absolutely does not like hot panels. Carrier evaporates so quickly that it just creates smears. CarPro ReLoad smears very easily too as soon as you use too much. I find the best detailing spray which is quick, easy, great protection, great gloss, use on all surfaces, and no smearing regardless of panel temps is the cocktail experienced detailers make and use ... CarPro ReLoad + CarPro Ech2o + distilled water. Never lets me down and consistent results! Beading is awesome. 👍🏽

Rather than have a product that lasts months and use it intermittently I just use them sparingly every wash as part of my towel drying time. I have started doing that since using Meguiares Hybrid Ceramic Wax which you're advised to apply to a wet car panel. I tend to just load my damp drying towel with product, dry the panel then buff with another dry towel or microfiber. You've just explained why it works so well for me. Thanks.

I have use the TW ceramic 3 in 1 detail spray. It is a streaking nightmare! What I have done to reduce the streak is having a spray bottle with just water. I use this bottle to knock down the streak, let me give you an example. I would spray this product on the panel, work it in with one cloth, then get another cloth and buff to perfection. If some streak remain, then I was use the spray bottle with water, mist it on the panel, and work it again. This usually work.

Had issues with Gyeon wet coat once or twice and I ended up using a detail spray which worked to a degreee to remove the streaking. However i worked out that it was a mix of poor application where I applied it to 1/2 of my car before rinsing , also the temperature was quite high so I'm guessing that's why. I still use the product predominantly during winter time and only ever 1 or 2 panels at a time. No issues since !

    1 User error
    2 Hot panels

Great video, very informative and well explained. I’ve found I get streaking with this kind of product when I over use a micro fibre towel to wipe away the excess product so I end up with a damp microfibre. I try to make sure I have plenty of clean microfibres at hand that I can change to once the product starts to streak. Thanks

I had streaking with TW ceramic wax, used as per instructions, at least tried to and had a devil of a job to buff, found that I had to use a damp microfibre cloth to go over panel and then buff this seemed to work. It is hard work though

My favourite - Carpro Elixir - i’ve never had streaking problems with even on warm panels. Bilt Hamber QD i have had streaking with, def more prone to it at higher concentrations so knocked it down more and it’s a great QD. A damp applicator to spread it is a great tip - i tend to NEVER spray a QD onto the car, just apply. Much more controlled.

a lot of people find elixir streaky. BH QD I stopped using it for a while because I thought it was over streaky. I love the stuff now though I tend to use it closer to 10:1

Over the years I found that streaking issues came about because I didn't understand the products well enough to know that I was the problem, operator error as they say. To much product and or out in the sun with hot panels. Eventually I figured out that water was the great equalizer, I mean there is a reason they're water based. The bottles all say one to two sprays per panel, in other words, this was their way of telling us not too use much product. Great topic.

    • @ForensicDetailing

yer in the same way the products use water to make them more usable. We can utililse water in additional to this. water them down a touch or soak out the applicator a bit.

Perfect timing with this video! I used carpro elixir on my nardo grey TTRS last weekend and ran into trouble with streaking! I think it was combination on hot panels and using too much product but after doing more research I found that you only need one spray per panel etc.. will give it a go with correct technique next time.. great tips in this vid! Would you recommend leaving a slightly streaky finish and it will eventually dissipate over time? My car is ceramic coated also

As a decorator similar principles apply to paint, you adjust your working time by thinning or working out of the heat to allow the product to flow. This will help avoid brush marks.

P&S Beadmaker has given me a few streaky sessions. Clean towels and buffing helps but find the streaking reduces over 72 hours. I think one of my flaws is over applying or accidentally applying a second stage on top of the layer which is already curing.

Had problems recently with Turtlewax ceramic 3 in 1 detailer, had to wet a microfibre towel and rewipe the panel then buff, got rid of the streaks but seams to streak as soon as I apply directly to the panel, if I apply the detailer to the cloth or applicator first then the problem reduces significantly,

Another common issue is trying to buff off with a non-absorbing plush towel. We're living in an age where our towels are becoming impregnated with highly hydrophobic materials too quickly. This affects drying as well as buffing water based products. As a result you get smearing instead of a perfect finish.

  • @sandysinclair6777

I have to say that I have used the majority of the products mentioned and the way I stop streaking is to apply whatever the product is with a damp microfibre cloth and immediately go over the panel with a damp almost wet microfiber cloth, then instantly dry with a dry microfibre . This I have learnt with hundreds of hours of applications and drying and that takes away the streaking . .minute one .

  • @markkerr3761

I've had products streak before but when it does happen, the logical response isn't to say 'oh well that's crap, I won't be using that again'... You go back, investigate, research - did I do something wrong, did I apply it at the wrong stage, did I not shake the bottle enough...
... There's a reason for everything and, most of the time, WE (as in the human element) are that reason!
Great video Jon, excellent advice for solving these issues, as always!

The panels got very hot, so I sprayed product onto a damp applicator instead of the panels and used a good microfibre cloth to buff off. One section streaked- my fault, too much product- but your tip to wipe over with water soaked towel sorted it. Very relieved as it was my wife car!

I use tach systems Shinee wax often, 95% of time I have no problems at all, but every now and then I get thrown a curve ball and a car will show streaks. I could of done 5 other cars that week in the same way and the 6th might decide to streak. I've found if I do a light mist of water from the hose (not jet wash) with 1 of those garden multi jet pattern spray guns, the finest must setting, then dry it with a towel the streaks gave gone. Don't know if this is a factor or its just in my head, tends to happen on older cars, say pre 2010 ish. Is it something to do with the way paint was then, baffling

Hi Mate, Great advise that I wish I had heard before I had my issue, I use Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Graphene Flex Wax. A brilliant product when used in the right way as I know now, my first application was done on a very detailed white car and it was excellent did not have an issue I applied inside my garage so went on great. Then about a month later I washed the car outside and attempted the 3rd method they mention on the bottle which is to spray 2 times on a panel and spread out using high pressure water and then dry. So being in Australia it can be hot even late in the afternoon and even though I thought it was cool enough it obviously wasn't as the next day I noticed streaking and high spots all over the car not horrible but enough to get my OCD into overdrive. So I tried tried a few methods but ended up lightly buffing the worst areas which finally worked, I now ALWAYS wet my applicator as you mentioned & also have a damp microfibre handy and use both when applying and fingers crossed have not had a repeat of the streaky effect, ty for your well spoken and explained video it is appreciated mate.

When we were in college we would "streak" around the campus....in the "buff".
My boyfriend was a "carrier" of many an STD. You're right about being in "heat" when he would "wax on, wax off". Boy he would "spread on one cloth" and often the "first squirt" was more than enough. I always forgot about color when it came to my boyfriends. They never had a "dry applicator" though.....

I'm very amateur and haven't had a problem with streaking. I always park my car in the shade for an hour before a wash, check every panel temp before washing and give a good pre rinse to help cooling.
The problem I have had with Autoglym Polar Seal is that my metal roof bars and black plastic wheel nut covers hazed white and haven't ever really shifted.

Great video, Jon. I find the paint can sometimes make a difference? Not the colour, but the type of clear, I guess. My car was in an accident a few years back and all the left side panels were replaced and resprayed, as well as the hood and boot lid. Seal n' Shine goes on the right side extremely easily, while the rest of the panels streak like mad - even though they all receive the same care. They soak up the spray, kind of like single-stage would and I find I have to saturate one towel with product, buff a small section, and immediately come in with a bone-dry second one.

The reason for the streaking with the other products is probably that I use too much products, AND I think that my buffing towels have become over-saturated with scellants over time. Do you think that an "APC bath" for these MF, before washing it, will solve this problem ? Thanks.

Shinee Wax - first time using it I HATED IT. It was streaky and tough to remove. Second time I loved it. First time I sprayed on the panel directly and left it on to long. Second time I sprayed on a microfiber and removed it quickly. I find the easiest detailer to put on and take off with zero chance of streaking is Infinity Wax Rapid Detailer.

I was using Bead Maker and no matter how I applied it I always got streaks and a haze that had to be polished off. This was on a black Jeep with cool panels in the garage yet a friend of mine uses it in his detailing business and has zero issues and I swear he uses way too much Bead Maker. I switched to Meguiar's D156 X-Press wax and it is lovely to work with and is super slick and glossy with no streaking (again on cold panels in a garage). I even tried to make it streak buy using too much product on a panel but nope... nothing. So I think for me I have found the spray wax I'll be sticking with.

    • @ForensicDetailing

some guys say Xpress wax can be streaky :) I honestly thing theres so many factors just like you say. maybe its compatibility with base product or paint type? Beadmaker for me was like very nice to work with.. yes theres some hazey marks you can call streaks but you just level them out and it flashes to clear gloss. I know Im not seeing what you saw though with the jeep though. ultimately I wanted to say in the video, its never wrong to try something else untill you are happy as well.

I want to spent nice when i detail my car and not to look for techniks and tips and lesson on how to apply the X product.

I have a Soft99 liquid version of the Fusso coat ( looks like milk but smells like petrol). It can be a pig to remove even after leaving it on for a short time, so I pour about 200ml into a normal 1ltr spray bottle and 600ml of rain water the rest. The result is now I can use it like a spraywax, or a wipe on wipe off product. I wouldn't use it to remove bird poo and for that, i'd use a proper cleaning QD. I had to experiment because at the beginning, i did a 50/50 mix and the sprayer would get blocked by the active ingredient.

What I've noticed, especially when applying a finishing detailer or sealant, is that my own sweat from my hand has a tendency to get onto the microfiber towels and causes additional problems. The fix is just to be sure to wear nitrile gloves during this stage of the process.

but next time you use it just slow down a bit. start on a wing. soak one microfiber towel in water wring it out so its damp. Have a pile of dry clean microfibers. Spray one mist onto the wing. spread the material around the wing. count to 10 slowly. then take clean cloth and buff it out. This should work. come back and tell me how you get on.

  • @timotcho01

MEGUAIRES Hybrid ceramic wax, love the sealant and never had issues but now it streaks randomly or patchy when buffed off.
Found that having a polish left on the panel like AG Super Resin or a spray wax helps to spread even and buff clean. Now slight dilution spray n wipe on a wet panel and rinsed off, dry and buffed seems to do it. Seems to layer well or maintained with CMX to push that SiO2 mirror with that TiO2 aid.
Real fussy product but durable and desirable lol

yes, if I prep a car and put it in, and theres strong winds I can get some dust falling down, so I need to check before resuming polishing the next day. but like I just do a quick ONR wipe over if im worried... its a cheap garage thats not air sealed but Im lucky to have a garage in the UK we dont get jack jones. land and house prices are a joke and the country is rammed full now so 99% of the buildings going in are the same sort of generic estates with small plots and everything compacted in. governments approving all these building requests so they can say they are doing good job of meeting housing demand but the roads are gridlocked etc.. :) oh jesus you got me started now :) Can tell I want to move from the UK cant you.

I had streaking issues on my car using Griot’s Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax. After watching this, I realized I committed several mistakes when using it. 1. I had applied a carnauba wax two weeks earlier. 2. The panel was hot. 3. I probably should have tried to strip the previously applied wax but I just wash and Clayed the surface. 4. I sprayed straight on panel and applied too much thinking since the panel was hot I would apply more. Fail. 5. I had cheap microfiber towels that didn’t properly work for buffing and polishing. I contacted Griot’s customer support and the recommended specific microfiber towels and I bought them. I gave the car a though foaming and wash. Clayed the surface with one of Griot’s synthetic clay applicators. Late afternoon, applies the Ceramic 3-in-1 wax with ease. Used recommended 2 microfiber towels -No streaking. The technique is different but I think I got it. I even got brave enough to buy a DA polisher and color corrected my white truck first. I’m going to try another vehicle and let my black paint be my third vehicle using the polisher. Thanks for the great content. I’m subscribed to your Chanel.

I started on the old style £7 turtle wax "hardshell" pastepaste (I didn't know any better and still no idfea what that consistency of it is). It was horrible to handle, horrible to work with, in all conditions. So if Jon's fixes don't resolve for you check those words aren't on the label of the product in your hand. Great workout though and the finish in the end was good. I used all of it before I tried SImoniz carnubra liquid wax - I had massive issues with using multiple methods, type of cloths, multiple microfibres. Gave up on that on the third try. So I stopped going to Halfords and watched/read reviews this time - something had to be good for a beginner. Seal and shine when it was new, was and still is my favourite of all the things I've bought for detailing - i have a method of working it now. Not even trying any others, this is perfect for me. Sidenote: You mention diluting products, John. Perhaps a video or a section in one showing some examples of ones you've had success with and/or then used for a different application? (I noted the blue meguiars liquid wax you mentioned recently and i use the 1:4 iso-panel wipe already).

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

that hardshell paste wax jesus that is proper old school not overly keen on that. That actually beds down more than streaks and its hard to buff the excess off. I think they should defunct that product personally but they prolly sell tons of it.

    • @djmandrick
      @djmandrick 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ForensicDetailing Its for the reasons I bought it and you describe Im sure. I found i needed "something" so like everyone who knows nothing about cars, I went to halfords and picked something from a brand I'd heard of (I looked at a tub of it at the top of our cellar steps for two decades greowing up) it was cheap, so if it was rubbish its only a few quid, and i could buy it there and then. And its a big tub so it lasts. To a general consumer like me back then would think it's good because it DOES looks better than nothing as that's their only frame of reference and how it "works" must be how they all work. So in two years time they buy another because it met their expectations. It's a one-off purchase and inexpensive product for the masses for sure.

I think I have always made an error I sue fse to get the water marks off but then I’m never sure if I can put turtle wax seal and shine over the top. Logically I think the answer is no as I’ve assumed conventional logic was to put the longest wearing product at the bottom but clearly you can in this example????

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

answer is no. because FSE leaves like a layer of PDMS or think like shiny gloss material but its not a durable bonding form of PDMS, so really it will effect seal and shine. you can do it of course wont be the end of the world but the sealant wont bond properly and durability will be reduced.

its super concentrate by using a wet microfiber you basically thin it and make it easier to form the film. once you have a good thin layer it should flash back to no streaks.. if it goes on thick and the carrier dries gonna be streaky really.

Jon, you're absolutely right. Another great video BTW! Greetings from Canada, where I earn a living doing this stuff. If you don't think of yourself as a pro as well, please think again - your knowledge is way WAY up there and it's fabulous that you share it with your viewers. I've had very good luck with Chemical Guys VO7 (not saying it's the best but it has never failed to impress) as a Last Step Product and as you say, wipe on (with a LIGHT coating ON MF!) and wipe it off right away with an unused section of MF cloth. Just wondering if I might ask you a Q regarding your take on the new Flex XCE 10-8 125 vs the Rupes Mille - I'm shopping for a forced rotation machine and you've tried out both, whereas I don't have access to either one without actually purchasing.
Thanks in advance if you care to share : - ) I understand your affinity toward the excellent Flex line as you are invested in their battery tech but aside from their PXE 80 which I own, I don't mind going CORDED with the bigger Flex 125 machine. (I already have a Rupes first generation and it stalls jut LOOKING at it - exaggerating a bit to make light of it : ) Cheers!

Yo David, Its flex for me. Its a bit lighter and more compact. I am baised as Ive had a lot more time with the flex forced rotation machines and I sort of love the feel of them on the panel. The rupes felt a bit strange to me. I am not a fan of the rupes cutting pads either. I just prefer the flex system. But the mille has better cooling and with a smaller throw it may well be smoother although it runs at a faster range which might disguise that. The rupes certainly feels well made and solid. I would almost say if you are rupes fan try the mille. But I prefer the flex. (if your on a budget the makita forced rotation is superb)

Funny how V07 felt like a scam while using it. Paid a fortune for 500mL, kept streaking (black car so highly visible) and never made me look at the paint and thinking this is impressive. Also don't like the way they advertise is, it's a sealant and a quick detailer, and a clay lub (you would be quite a baller using it as a clay lub for that price).
At the moment i'm using done and dusted from bouncer, uk product might not be available everywhere, and it's the best i've used. That's litteraly a fool-proof product, i can't imagine anyone having issue applying it. It looks great, the beading is surprisingly good for a few weeks, and it's 12$.
