Watching this for the 5th time. Never played BW before remastered, but I've watched it on and off since 2009. Best viewer experience e-sports of all time. The game just has so much strategic and skill expression, which is called upon frequently by the players, and the strategy is always relative based on the progression of the opponent. Real time adaption, skill and effective strategy. Truly made me realize RTS as a genre is the best suited e-sports genre of them all, and it needs reviving, which because of it's heritage and relevance even to this day, I believe it will be.
Well said. Brood War is truly the best game of all time. I wouldn't hold your breath for a mass popular revival of the genre though; the mcdonalds fed and over-vaccinated zoomer generation will never appreciate such beauty. We are doomed to witness gaming devolve into flashy graphics that revolve around loot boxes and in-game micro transactions for dopamine hits.
@@Dziajiidk, the main difficulty of brood war, sc2, aoe, etc... is that it takes like 40h of investment to get to the fun. As such, if you allow people to get to the fun right away, exploring the game and enjoying the initial learning curve rather than shoving macro mechanics down their throat before they can play the game, then I think the genre is capable of revival.
@@zardecil9419 Single player campaign was that. And it was a fun tutorial. Then you just needed a lot of practice and training to get good for multiplayer. There is just no way around it. It's just like sports. No wonder why BW became the OG e-sports. Modern gaming en masse is not taken as sports but as a mindless distraction. This is why the RTS, a complex, skills demanding genre will never become POPULAR again. It has its hayday on PC and will remain a niche for a smaller category of players.

The argument is about the bare minimum amount of skill required to participate in the core gameplay loop. In the campaign even the skill floor is really high if the core gameplay loop is make base -> make units -> kill things at a level that's satisfying. Mobas are similarly difficult to become good at, but they are a lot easier to get into as a general rule than RTS has been historically. More recently that's become less true due to the overall skill level of the playerbase creeping up, but at the end of the day if someone's still genuinely bad at the game, they can go queue a game at say, herald level in dota 2 and still have a pretty okay time. Why can't the same happen for RTS? We've seen a lot of the same thing being released over and over again, that being high skill cap, but I haven't seen a single genuine attempt to create an RTS where it is actually easier to get into engaging with the core systems at play. Starcraft as an example, requires you to learn how to make workers, make units at a constant pace, or injects, learn to drop mules or chronoboost, spreading creep etc... All before you can engage with the core gameplay fantasy of the game(smashing things with an army). Upon closer inspection there's a lot of space there to refactor things such that you don't need to do 30 different chores before you can play the game.

This is an incredible moment for Starcraft Broodwar, I was rooting for Effort so much and screaming at my iPad. I could tell from the interview before the match that they wanted to destroy each other, that feeling was magnified in the matches themselves. You could tell how much more focus and determination they put in. Just fucking spectacular. Best finals I have ever seen.
i personally dont play brood war i play SC2 but you can rest assured im 23 never played brood war in my life (unless you count the n64 version lol) and i still love to watch it love watching rts in general especially brood war and sc2
They need to have tasteless and artosis casting the finals if nothing else. NoRegret and Rapid are ok, but tasteless and artosis were made to cast broodwar. Its just not the same, especially on an epic final like this.
Yea the casters can make starcraft unwatchable for me, ive muted and turned music on in the past but I think they did fine and im not the biggest noregret fan either
I was upset when I first watched this like "Where is tastosis?" but NoRegret and Rapid do a great job. NoRegret has a terrific grasp of the game, but he is a bit monotone, while Rapid barely knows a zergling from a templar, but he really brings the enthusiasm and energy.
I haven't felt this way since 2010.... wow just wow. Once again these guys, all of them have amazed us with their gameplay. Efforts apm, focus, MICRO my god his micro is godlike. Flash is flash, he has a legacy that cannot be denied but today we have a new king a ZERG!!! :D
Winning the title by defeating the Defending ASL Champion-Rain, Current KSL Champion-Last, and finally the 3 times ASL Champion-Flash in best of 5 matches along the way, Effort has totally proven himself as one of the best Zerg player in the world.
I criticized this duo in the past. I felt like they had no chemistry. But this finals was well-cast truthfully. Great improvements from both of them and their relationship as casters. Bravo.
Oh they did a fantastic job. Rapid in particular, it's crazy what he can accomplish with much less experience and knowledge of the game than say Artosis. I wish more English speaking players become commentators so that we learn deeper while watching, but until that happens, It's still good to have a more diverse cast.
Memorable, amazing.. Effort totally deserved the win.. he put out some of the best builds I've seen in BW, and I've watched BW from the beginning.. what a way to end this tournament. Edit: Let me clarify, in the current meta, Zerg is not supposed to win against Terran.. but Effort just dismantled the best two terrans in the world with creative, spectacular and fully deserved wins.. Reminds me a lot of the feeling I had when Savior was the only zerg winning against terrans back in 2006/2007.
Man I got emotional, I rooted for Flash, but when Effort won, and talked about his mother, you could really feel his emotions, and I also lost my mother at a young age; I also feel she watches over me.
Explain plz. For publicity? BW definitely deserves a better following than it has. Perfect game. I compare it to chess as a global standard/classic for the new era.

Flash was rattled for sure. The overbearing history of never beating Effort... getting schooled in a couple games early in the set... he could have played better of course but as Filippo Sguotti mentioned, " Even god bleed." :)
SPOILERS BELOW Effort just showed a masterclass on how to beat 1-1-1. Early pressure on a greedy terran followed up by fast hive. Bigger question is is why didn't flash stick to his guns and go 1 rax fe? He nearly always win on that strat. The level of play from both was just so high, best final I've watched in brood war.
i think it's just because it's what he's been trying to refine nonstop in practice. also, don't forget back when he always did gasless expand play is when he last lost to Effort in their last final together. Effort's aggressive low-economy play won him that final just as beautifully.
I am surprised that Flash went for 1-1-1 against effort (who just defeated Last who played 1-1-1 nonstop). He really would fair better with 5RAX into mech.

Idk rapid had a bit of a caster ego, where he didnt really give no-regret anytime to talk or to be right. There were times where Rapid was wrong and he completely refused to acknowledge it
Agreed. Nuke the star was great, that’s why I had a huge disappointment with Tasteless and Artosis because they were horrible commentators in comparison. Luckily Tasteless and Artosis didn’t cover all games, and we had two much better commentators to cover the finals.
As much as i love the Tastosis i dont agree with this relentless caster hate thats going on in the comments. I think they did a good job. No reason to hate on them like this.
I’m watching right now (game 2) and they seem clueless and aren’t very good at informative analysis. Eg: effort scouts 8ish marines and sticks with 2 sunkens, but flash has another half an army not far behind. They completely stumble on build order, scouting info, etc. They just hype, really. Wish they’d done some semis to give Tastosis a break before the finals. Sighs
Rapid especially is a complete newb in SC. I would 70-0 him. It is hard to watch BW when the commentators don’t know timings or builds or anything really. He is better than he was a year ago, so I will admit that. Nevertheless he still is not intelligent at BW.
The fact that this is the final is just amplifying the hate, they actually did a better job than last time IMO, they're clearly improving, but this is just a bad timing to have them cast the very final series. The series was so damn amazing I ended up not minding at all personally

It's so easy to forget it's real people investing so much of their life into the game that are playing here or maybe better said - that this is mostly their life. Really great games and very emotional from both! Thank you, EffOrt and FlaSh for showing us your mastery! On the commentators' topic - yes, they are not Tastosis and they make annoying mistakes but are also doing it to make StarCraft more popular on the world scene. I hope they keep it up and get better at it.
Honestly i had to fight off some tears at the end. What a bag of emotions. Didnt know about efforts personal problems. Great final. Asl is amazing. Rapid and ro regret were great. I for one like rapids passionate style.

The Best ASL finals I've ever seen. Great games, great casting. Absolutely wonderful. On a side note: Anyone know if they're selling the ASL S6 jackets?
Excellent series! Best most epic/emotional I remember to date. Also glad to see positivity flushing down the negative comments regarding casters. Rapid and noregret are 'in development' still you could say. They did not grow up as BW players but have embraced the game and are looking like the only other ones in the mix to bring it to the fans at the highest level. (Hands down Rapid is the best live feed interview translator.)
This is also an example of great casting from Rapid. This is what the fans are looking for. Spontaneous, smooth, energetic. Over time we can hope his 'live and on the spot' game analysis comes along too.
I really love Tasteless... I remember like 15years ago he was casting OGN starleagues on his own just for the fun of it. I'm Korean and iknow it's not gonna be long to watch these matches... there arn't no more new pro-level gamers and Flash wrist injured, and the military service left for the gamers..Hope to see JD or Stork's comeback against Flash, or Flash's comeback against Effort in ro5 matces... with Tasteless castering.... + If you understan Korean, you can watch pro gamer's personal live commentating in Afreeca TV. I personally watched JD's streaming, it's surpring in how much depth they see the games, it's just another level..
Last game is what I wanted. Pretty exciting finals if 2 games had kinda dumb mistakes I was a bit sad no tastosis. You can feel what you are missing in awareness and depth. Normally pretty sympathetic about them being drafted in but maybe a little more prep for finals. They did better leaning on the phenomenal observers who are always great. They are definitely better than they used to be so like asl getting better and better Really appreciate the translation on end final interviews which were touching YEAH GREAT shoutout to the old crew. SC2 gg ppl. CHOLERA man I miss Cholera. Diggity and Moletrap did a ton. Rise was always fun.,
I really like Effort’s strategies. There is now a general consensus among pro gamers in Korea that, at the highest level, Terran is OP if used correctly. Terran almost always wins in a straight up game against Zerg, unless Zerg gets a huge advantage in the early game. Effort also correctly realizes that Zerg is very weak in late games, so you must try to end the game early, or at least get some damage with early aggression. It really paid off and all three games he won were through early attacks. Some Zerg players prefer a macro style game, and it’s just very hard to win against Terran in that way (same problem in ZvP as well, but to a lesser extent).
God Terran soundtrack is so fucking good !. And I've always wondered if it was deliberate or not the change in tempo in the music and the moment in the game in which the first pressure or the first key decisions are made.
God Terran just looks so strong even watching this reminds me of how much I sucked at this game. Seeing those 1-2 lurkers under bcloud fending off 120 supply Terran still makes me uneasy. No idea how to hold that shit to this day. Really impressed by effort
im a sc2 fan at heart however i love watching broodwar... when the caster is messing up his words and you can tell his thoughts are jumbled nothing says passion like that i love SC in general i iknow a lot of fans of sc2 dont like broodwar and broodwar fans dont like sc2 but we both have amazing games that have truly passionate fan bases.
Those were excellent games. I was going for the guy who didn't win but honestly this felt like it was anybody's series. Holy shit that fast Hive too lmao what a time to be alive.
its not even about the other casters, the fact is I really like Tasteless and Artosis casting. I am tuning in particularly to listen to them cast because I like listening them to.
SPOILERS Fantastic series! I love effort's play when he's at the top of his game. I've been disappointed every season but he finally made it, AND beat Flash (again) to do it. Not as much of a nail-biter as that OSL back in the day (can't beat a reverse all-kill) but hey, I'll take it!

@@WaheedQc I had the opposite problem. Rapid is way too high energy and says way too much without saying anything so I muted em.

Agreed. Nuke the star was great, that’s why I had a huge disappointment with Tasteless and Artosis because they were horrible commentators in comparison. Luckily Tasteless and Artosis didn’t cover all games, and we had two much better commentators to cover the finals.

I’m watching right now (game 2) and they seem clueless and aren’t very good at informative analysis.
Eg: effort scouts 8ish marines and sticks with 2 sunkens, but flash has another half an army not far behind. They completely stumble on build order, scouting info, etc. They just hype, really. Wish they’d done some semis to give Tastosis a break before the finals. Sighs
Rapid especially is a complete newb in SC. I would 70-0 him. It is hard to watch BW when the commentators don’t know timings or builds or anything really.
He is better than he was a year ago, so I will admit that. Nevertheless he still is not intelligent at BW.
The fact that this is the final is just amplifying the hate, they actually did a better job than last time IMO, they're clearly improving, but this is just a bad timing to have them cast the very final series.

On the commentators' topic - yes, they are not Tastosis and they make annoying mistakes but are also doing it to make StarCraft more popular on the world scene. I hope they keep it up and get better at it.

Honestly i had to fight off some tears at the end. What a bag of emotions. Didnt know about efforts personal problems. Great final. Asl is amazing. Rapid and ro regret were great. I for one like rapids passionate style.

Jesus Christ, just an insurmountable achievement for Effort, went through Rain, then Last, then Flash..... What the fuck that is OUTRAGEOUS!! EFFORT YOU ARE THE BEST. This is by far the best any player has done in a Starcraft tournament.

Excellent series! Best most epic/emotional I remember to date. Also glad to see positivity flushing down the negative comments regarding casters. Rapid and noregret are 'in development' still you could say. They did not grow up as BW players but have embraced the game and are looking like the only other ones in the mix to bring it to the fans at the highest level. (Hands down Rapid is the best live feed interview translator.)

This is also an example of great casting from Rapid. This is what the fans are looking for. Spontaneous, smooth, energetic. Over time we can hope his 'live and on the spot' game analysis comes along too.

I really love Tasteless... I remember like 15years ago he was casting OGN starleagues on his own just for the fun of it. I'm Korean and iknow it's not gonna be long to watch these matches... there arn't no more new pro-level gamers and Flash wrist injured, and the military service left for the gamers..Hope to see JD or Stork's comeback against Flash, or Flash's comeback against Effort in ro5 matces... with Tasteless castering....
+ If you understan Korean, you can watch pro gamer's personal live commentating in Afreeca TV. I personally watched JD's streaming, it's surpring in how much depth they see the games, it's just another level..

I was a bit sad no tastosis. You can feel what you are missing in awareness and depth. Normally pretty sympathetic about them being drafted in but maybe a little more prep for finals. They did better leaning on the phenomenal observers who are always great. They are definitely better than they used to be so like asl getting better and better

I really like Effort’s strategies. There is now a general consensus among pro gamers in Korea that, at the highest level, Terran is OP if used correctly. Terran almost always wins in a straight up game against Zerg, unless Zerg gets a huge advantage in the early game. Effort also correctly realizes that Zerg is very weak in late games, so you must try to end the game early, or at least get some damage with early aggression. It really paid off and all three games he won were through early attacks. Some Zerg players prefer a macro style game, and it’s just very hard to win against Terran in that way (same problem in ZvP as well, but to a lesser extent).

God Terran soundtrack is so fucking good !. And I've always wondered if it was deliberate or not the change in tempo in the music and the moment in the game in which the first pressure or the first key decisions are made.
God Terran just looks so strong even watching this reminds me of how much I sucked at this game. Seeing those 1-2 lurkers under bcloud fending off 120 supply Terran still makes me uneasy. No idea how to hold that shit to this day. Really impressed by effort

im a sc2 fan at heart however i love watching broodwar... when the caster is messing up his words and you can tell his thoughts are jumbled nothing says passion like that i love SC in general i iknow a lot of fans of sc2 dont like broodwar and broodwar fans dont like sc2 but we both have amazing games that have truly passionate fan bases.

Fantastic series! I love effort's play when he's at the top of his game. I've been disappointed every season but he finally made it, AND beat Flash (again) to do it. Not as much of a nail-biter as that OSL back in the day (can't beat a reverse all-kill) but hey, I'll take it!
