- Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959KQ1. Set of queen-size sheets (flat, fitted, 3 pillow cases). 1 oz. STPP and 3 oz. Gain HE powder. Downy Libre Enjuague Flor de Luna. Normal cycle. Full wash time at normal soil level is 14 minutes.
I have been watching this video for the past few years wishing for one of these machines. My husband has been watching for one to show up at the recycling center, and today's the day! He found one!! Can't wait til he gets it home to see what's wrong with it. I'm so excited! We both are!
FINALLY FOUND IT! I used to obsess this type of whirlpool when I was a kid
The machine fills with a couple gallons more than what's needed to saturate the load dripping-wet, the level is always *below* the wash plate. The water stream at the right rear is *not* fresh water filling, it's recirculation of water that's already in. Fill is through the detergent dispenser at the front/right corner, the softener dispenser at the front/left, or the spray at the left/rear of the tub. Watch those points to see how much filling is involved.
* I LOVE THIS WASHER! The SHORTER & rounded-SWIRL center agitator ~ is SUPERIOR to the traditional agitators: More EVEN, thorough, and GENTLE washing of every item!!
I would have thought of all the HE top loaders, this would have been by far the best design!!!
They probably went with the Cabrio design because it’s quieter, uses less electricity, and is more reliable. And this washing machine is loud but i bet it cleans your clothes a lot better.
@@MicklowFilms cabrio is not more reliable than this
@@MicklowFilms this one is like 75% quieter then cabrio u hear it loud in this video its because its open and the cam microphone but its insanely quiet then the cabrio
It's actually less water than you think. All of that water is actually recirculation - it pumps the water up from the bottom, then sprays it over of the top of the clothes again.
My Grandma had one of these and I loved it
I would love to have one of these. I got to Martin's at his Wash-In. Wish I could find one of these for cheap. My husband has access to the local recycling facility, so we are hoping one shows up there by way of the "garbage gods." LOL. My husband can repair anything.
Yesterday I had my Whirlpool Calypso washer overhauled, New U Joint, New Wash Plate,New Leveler. It washes so quiet now you can only hear the water splashing around. Before it sounded like a diesel truck and loud.
They are pretty good at cleaning. I have one. The only bad thing is it eventually tangles some clotheing. Other than that I love my calypso washer. =)
I bet this washer cleans better than the Cabrio/Bravos/Oasis
@aweyer312 ...actually... it's kind of a "not so successful" 1950's Apex Wash-a-Matic... in which, the entire drum nugelates or whatever they're calling it. The Kelvinator had a kind of "dancing squid" agitator which was awsomely splashy and cool.
Looks like a good machine wish I had one
Are you still using this machine? Still happy with it? The Calypso didn't have a good track record... Nice, innovative idea, though.
it reminds me of the kelvanator washers of the 50's same type of agitators and wash patterns
WOW is it just me or does this machine remind any one else of an old washing machine known as the KELVINATOR?
The Philco Flex A Wash And The Kelvinator 1959
and the apex wash-a-matic
This is way better than the high efficiency machines
Whirlpoolz this is high efficiency too
love this washer whered u get it
I love waterfall like fill cycle.
Wonderful wash drama!
I've read that this system was nothing but trouble and that's why they were discontinued ... what has been your experience? It seems great to me... reminds me of the old 50s Kelvinator action.
Me encanta ...🤗
One thing I got to say I do like is is that it nutates the air bubbles right out of the sheets. Too complicated a design though and I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually think wash plate machines are better, especially the older Whirlpool/Kenmore/Maytags that used the DD F&P motors and floating baskets.
I found a mint matching dryer 2 weeks ago WooHoo!
The comments below where people are complaining about wash preformance. There are a few things to consider. Load it like a MODERN HE Washer. DO NOT USE COLD/COLD. USE the COLD ON ATC. DON'T USE TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE DETERGENT. USE HOT FOR VERY DIRTY ITEMS. AND OWN ONE.
From watching the different videos of the Calypso and the Cabrio, to the Calypso has better rollover than the Cabrio.
it is sad the annotations on these videos were removed :(
@DADoESofTX Do you sleep 24/7? When its time to change the sheets for the second week, wash, dry then use one of those sets. Plenty of time to get some sleep. As for assumptions, none made. I simply sort laundry according to type. Sheets and pillow cases; towels and wash cloths; jeans; white underwear; colored t shirts, etc.
I found this video from AW.org. How well does this machine wash? Does it have a lint filter? I'm researching older HE TLs with a lint filter. How long from start to finish for a normal soil load?
Thanks!
Well for me I use heavy duty, warm/warm normal soil and Extended spin so 52 minutes
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice i would like to see it do a comforter now...
nice machine but i prefer front loading washers !!!
@DADoESofTX If you want to be green, don't wash the sheets until the following week or whenever you change sheets just dump them in a hamper. Assuming its weekly, you will cut 52 wash loads per year, 52 dryer loads and 52 measures of detergent. My 2 cents.
The Next time I see a Calypso in a Scrap heap I'm gonna Steal it and repair it. and I bet the part that's always going to startle me is 1:35
Such a violent break
Can you do a video on the exterior machine itself??
well thats what i call: EXTREME AGITATING
I get this washer yesterday, but the digital panel doesn't work(doesn't turn on). What I can do?it was of my aunt and has more than 8 years.Doesn't has garanty.
how do you get the machine to run with the lid open?
I have a toggle switch wired into the lid switch to allow bypassing it.
That probably takes a while to do!
mgrella63 some dose this automatically
I drilled a hole in the back panel and wired a toggle switch to make it run with a open lid
@@DADoESofTX what was that noise in the background at 0:01 while you were loading the machine?
Hello I just got this washer but I'm not sure on how to use it. I put the cycle on normal and set the options and when I put start it say 42 on the time but it only makes this sound like its on but doesn't do anything? Please help
Read the instruction manual.
I agree with myNEONCITY!
This is a weird kind of washing machine, where do they sell these?
Its a different style. There use to be a lot of neat style washing machines years ago and this is very similar to some of them. I have a set myself and have been using it for almost 10 years now and always worked excellent.
they don't make these anymore and thank god they don't as far as any kind of reliability goes they were horrible, didn't clean well and were very expensive machines in the day
They don't make them anymore, unfortunately. Too many people bought them, it was a totally new way of washing, they didn't know how to use them properly and ruined it for those of us that loved it by bringing a class action lawsuit against Whirlpool.
This is the modern day Kelvenator.
@Myworld691 Did you plug it in? :)
It’s callypsating the sheets
It looks to me that this machine does a better job of washing than the cabrio. But then I don't like any of the "High efficiency" toploaders. For efficiency, frontloaders are the best. Sorry for the lousey spelling. I used to spell realy well. something went wrong somewear along the way.LOL
I'm old fashioned. I want my sheets completely under water.
the agitator and the bottom moves at the same time get it.most whirlpool agitators have a whirl design.....duh thats why they call it whirlpool
@DADoESofTX Thanks a lot I'll see what I can do :)
I don't like this agitator because it's only agitating the bottom of the sheets. Not the top
Why did you do five spaces between each word
THIS IS AN ANNOYING WASHER :/ DOES THAT WASH OK?
Yeah It washes great!
@itsmegp46 LOL thanks for u interest I really appreciate it. I actually gave the w to a navel :( yes I did.
But I have been thinking to purchase a LG steam w & d.But I still don't know ...
I'm The WITCH.
Yeah I bet
Go buy a Speed Queen washer! They have a tub of water in them & are built to last for 25 years!
My fisher and Paykel smart drive is nearly on 30 years and it’s still going whith out an issue
Tim- I'm Shari from Missouri, I agree totally on the fact about the Speed Queen washers. But ours is about a year and a half old. It washes sheets, pillow cases, bath towels, and resident's laundry for an assisted residential care facility where I live, last week, it quit, and if I'm not mistaking, the timer switch and possibly, the inlet valve that brings water into the machine had to be replaced.
if only they made them like this. now days they up the price and sell us a bunch of hooey i should of kept my ol gf. she new how to use her agitatorss ;0)
I'm not impressed. My Whirlpool Carbrio HE washer can hold 3 sets of queen size sheets (six in all), plus 6 pillow cases and 6 pillow liners. Sheets come out sparkling clean. Now that I've seen this video, I see that I can do the wash three times faster.
Are you kidding? I got the Cabrio after having to get rid of my Calypso during a move....was pressured into not saving it and stupidly let it go instead if putting it in storage. Cabrio is awful. SHORTEST cycle is 45-56 minutes. And is horribly rough on clothes. I wish I never wasted the money on it. I want my Calypso back. There is no way Cabrio can wash faster than Calypso...I've had both....I'd happilty GIVE AWAY this POS for a Calypso again. Cabrio is poorly made too. Feels flimsy...Calyspos was solid
@@Coasterdude02149 keep watching the scrap yard and craigslist
I need a cigarette.
Well, you're awful negative! Go get a cigarette.
wow thats so not washing what it does i mean thats just shaking the laundry you should see vids of european frontload washers those are just great
Shaking the laundry gets the dirt out
this washer is HORRIBLE
Aw no, aw HELL no!
DualRef what)
I don't like this. It's too noisy and too much splashing. I have to wipe up the splashing on the lid and sides of the washer when it is done.
WHY DO YOU NOOBS LIKE THIS WASHER
This washer did well at washing , my only issue was that my towels were ruined. It’s great for Jeans and comforters
Not trying to start a fight-I come with respect but how did it ruin your towels? This machine was so gentle, I was able to put designer clothes in and save on dry cleaning. I have a Cabrio now that I despsie with every ounce of my being. The agitator is back and ruins clothes. Not a chance in hell would I put my Gucci , Versace silk shirts or Armani clothes in that...but sure did in my Calyspo. That bounce plate was the BEST.
Coasterdude02149 I really liked it. It was a good machine. My guess is the thread would get caught in the rubber of the plate and it would slowly tear my towels , but I loved the wash action
I understand. Too bad they didn't spend more time on R&D to improve it-it was a great machine. We only got the first iteration of it and then it was gone :(
Because it’s differant
NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok what a waste of water.
The water is recirculated with a pump
Recirculation pump.
MOM CAN MAKE BETTER WASHER
that funky washer makes too much splashing as A CALYPSPO WASHER HAS A BAD AGITAOIN
dont all washers have splashing in the agitation
Who cares about splashing! This is a washing machine what do you expect???
Weird LOL
WOW! OK, lets watch a video of a Kenmore 70 series or a Frigidaire Unimatic then watch this hunk of junk. WOW, I am still amazed how they can call this clean. Instead of thinking of ways to shine shit, appliance companies need to realize that the old washers, still in use today, are better than the crap they build now, quit spending our money on this..., well, you get the point!
Adam- Hi! I agree totally on the fact about the older washing machines still working better than today's trash they build!
@@sharipuckett4694 And that's another thing that goes into my list of things I should never believe at all!
No one should listen to the uploader regarding his glorious claims about this washer. It had a horrible reputation and Whirlpool was successfully sued over this washer by class action. It did not clean clothes well, plus it left them all twisted in knots, etc. It also was not as reliable as the standard post agitator washers.
All of this except reliability issues is USER ERROR. Mine does not twist clothes at all. and it gets them REALLY CLEAN
DISLIKE!!!! waste water - high bill
No it has a recirculating pump
