Kanto is the Green Hill Zone of Pokemon Yeah, it's iconic. Yeah, it kicked off the series, but god DAMN, tone it down, we've seen this place 17 times in one day!
@@galararticuno9419 GSC did it well since it was really just a sequel to the first Gen and it must've been cool to go through Kanto 3-5 years after the story happened, even if the level curve was abysmal The Gen 3 remakes were necessary since it was a more definitive version of Kanto But after that, aside from the Gen 2 remakes, there's been a LOOOOOOOT of callbacks to Kanto Main character of Sun and Moon is from Kanto Majority of Mega Evolution's and Alolan Variations are of Kanto Pokemon A good chunk of Unovas Pokemon are clear callbacks to Kanto The first forest in Kalos is a 1:1 remake of Viridian Forest And that's on top of Let's Go just being a console tie in game to the phone game I can't recall if Sinnoh had any Kanto callbacks apart from the first gym being a rock user, the standard forest area and the haunted mansion. That's in every gen and it's done differently, so I give it a pass
I mean you could argue Hoenn had a lot of similarities to Kanto too. I don't see anything wrong with callbacks and references since it's the most popular generation, a little thing like the main character in Sun and Moon is a pretty small nitpick. And don't forget LG/FR were also necessary for trading to RSE to complete the Pokedex or get some Gen 1 Pokémon that weren't in the game.
There would be a *massive* amount of comparisons towards Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokemon. One of them would be between bottom-of-the-barrel female stereotypes that were also main characters of the Pokemon X & Y anime and Sonic X. One of them is the Classic Era of Sonic vs. the Generation 1 of Pokemon. In terms of quality, at least the Classic Era of Sonic would be polished for so many years while Generation 1 was debatably another one of those many replayable RPG series then as it got older and older, its quality severely rotted to the point where I could never unsee Fawful's Minion's massive criticisms towards the era that made him turn into AVGN (awesome TH-camr, he is overhated for retarded reasons by Amourshippers that defend that TH-camr's clones) which he pointed out himself (one thing he could have remembered to point out is that Misty actually WAS like Serena from most of the Pokemon X & Y anime back then which we do remember when she was ready to have a catfight with Jessie Rocket who was a mean girl stereotype back then far more than nowafays where they tried to flesh her out a bit more to make her feel like a good guy, as neutral as she was since she worked for a Pokemon-capturing big boss).
I'm not really seeing your point. If you're comparing Genesis Sonic to Pokémon RBY Sonic's first 4 games have great graphics, music, and gameplay that are arguably the best 2d Sonic has ever been. I enjoy Gen One but some of the graphics are creepy and outdated, and the music is very eerie at times. RBY was also horribly broken to the point that you could cheat to win. Overall I think RBY are great games for their time and are the furthest things are horrible though. Pokémon went uphill for the next ten years and Sonic slowly declined

I am very happy to see the negative narrative gen 5 had to endure for so long has been broken down and chipped away as more time as passed. I played gen 5 in a bit of a vacuum, I didn't know many others opinions on Pokemon games in general, but once I started to look more into the community, I was utterly baffled to see gen 5 taking so much heat. The region and especially the Pokemon, and looking back, very shallow reasoning behind most of the negativity. You can certainly have issues with the games, and the Pokemon, but harping on the same few designs, talking about how "linear" the games were, despite Pokemon games being pretty linear to begin with, a lot of the common critiques haven't aged well, most just sounding like blind hate. Gen 5 is my favorite generation by a long shot, and I'm glad people have not only come around to accept it in droves, but give it the much needed praise it deserves.

I think it has to do with more of a nostalgia cycle than anything else. Gen 4 and 5 are looked as the best generations right now because they haven’t had a remake since their release and people who grew up playing them are now adults and are looking back fondly on them. That doesn’t mean they are bad, far from it, it’s just that the Pokémon company hasn’t given it the love it deserves lately and it really is striking the balance of great games and nostalgia right now. Imagine people remembering gen 7 10 years from now? It’s gonna be nuts I tell you.
Codex Caliburn oh yeah I feel this immensely. Gen 3 was in the same boat for a while where everyone wanted remakes and loved gen 3 but then the remakes came out and it kinda left a bad taste in people’s mouths. I just hope Game Freak doesn’t screw up the Gen 4 remakes and remakes them with the fans in mind

Yeah Gen6 was lacking although it was great, it's just sad that Pokemon Z was never made to expand greatly upon Kalos. ORAS was vastly inferior to Emerald unfortunately & the reason it gets hated is because of how the game pretty much trolls Emerald players by entirely removing the Battle Frontier, & lacks any sort of trainer customization. We were expecting Hoenn to look all pretty like Kalos, although it ended up just being a lazy recreation with 3D graphics of the original maps for the most part.

*Having never played gen 5, this is the impression I get from it:* The game is filled with care and it's really clear that they created the game with the intention of injecting new life and new ideas into Pokemon. In that regard, they really succeed in achieving that goal. However....the biggest weakness of this gen, to me at least, is the the pokemon themselves. No, I'm not talking about the designs, I'm talking about the weird evolution pacing that a bunch of gen 5 pokemon are shackled with. Some pokemon take a LUDICROUS amount of time to become useful and are just deadweight for so long due to their lack of power. Scraggy evolves at level 39 Gothorita/Solosis evolve at level 32 and 41 Vanillite evolves at level 35 and 47 Foongus evolves at level 39 Frillish evolves at level 40 Ferroseed evolves at level 40 Klink evolves at level 38 and 49 Tynamo evolves at level 39 Elgyum evolves at level 42 Litwick evolves at level 41 I'll give axew a pass since most dragons take a long time anyways Cubchoo evolves at level 37 Mienfoo evolves at LEVEL 50 Golett evolves at level 43 Pawniard evolves at LEVEL 52 Rufflet/Vullaby evolve at LEVEL 54 Deino evolves at LEVEL 50 and LEVEL 64 Larvesta evolves at LEVEL 59 It's a shame really. So many of these are cool pokemon, but there are so many instances where you could be past the sixth gym in the game and still be stuck with first stage evolutions. Heck, some take so long to evolve that you are practically at the end of the game by the time they finally evolve. When you look at the evolution rates of the other regions, no other region takes this long to evolve and the Unova evolution pacing sticks out like a sore thumb. If not for the poor evolution pacing, gen 5 could be even more coveted than it already is.
Gradient It’s rather funny calling it poor evolution pacing on Pokemon that are designed to be introduced at roughly near the appropriate times these evolutions are remotely relevant at. Let alone not even considering the multiple tools the game provided to facilitate effective level grinding without a game breaking mechanic like Exp, All. Deino, and Larvesta are introduced late and post game, let alone the post game being half of another region. Where as Gen 7 Had early in-game Pokémon that couldn’t fully evolve until damn near the end of the game. Which they fixed and in some cases made worse in US/UM. It does clearly shows that you indeed have never played Gen V. Cause giving a detriment to a series without actually understanding its focus on both content and narrative sounds incredibly shallow.

They at least fixed the evolution accessibility for Crabominable, and Vikavolt but I don’t recal. I’ll let you know once I look back half a year ago.
personally as someone who grew up with generation 4 i will always remember the day i got diamond and played it with my sister having pearl. i’ll also remember trying to make krikitune good and the disappearance of a shiny tentacruel but regardless it’ll be my favorite generation

Mathew Ricafrente Gen 7 seems to be in that generational hate thing every generation post Johto seems to get. Few years later people start liking it again.
Looking back on it, generation 5 was a masterpiece in all areas that matter. Best story in the series (though sun and moon may rival it) an insanely powerful and creative Pokemon roster, and a captivating region. the sequels further expanded upon the originals, bw2 are imo the best pokemon games to date imo. Black 2 and White 2 also still have the largest post game to date (even surpassing hggs). People may complain about the linearity, but I feel that's a side effect of the deep story it was trying to tell. Overall gen 5 was a fucking gem, and I'm glad people are coming around to realize its greatness.
If there's two things from Gen 7 I hope the implement in the future they would be the ride Pokemon and regional variants, though they should branch out to anything but Gen 1 next time.
Im sorry BW are the worst games in the series and drag BW2 which are great down. The dex is limited and frankly shit. The story is complete booty, as your supposed to see reason in an ideal with no evidence exept their own hypocrisy. Which would be fine if it was accepted that way, which its not. Somehow the people of Unova agree? Somehow this is a justified political statement. Complete shit. Just play BW2 where they're Nazis and its simple.
big boy 68 A limited dex? Seriously? Black and White has a dex of 157 ALL NEW Pokémon, which is even more original Pokémon than Generation 1. If you take out the "bad" evo lines of Trubbish and Vanillite, you still have 151 all new Pokémon. Gen 5 had so many great designs, like Scolipede, Bisharp, Volcarona, Galvantula, Zebstrika, Serperior, and more.

This may be a little late on my end, but you have such a way with words that's always a joy to hear. And while I'm not sure I agree with every choice(gen 3 is probably my favorite), I respect and admire how reverently you treat each generation and find all sorts of good things for each one. I even gained a new appreciation for X and Y after considering how important it was for the series. Never stop being awesome, Fawful's Minion.
Some of my favourite things about gen 5 were the little touches, like: - The first gym changes what type it focuses on based on what starter you pick, making sure you always have the disadvantage if you just went in guns blazing with them. You had to find a new friend that would cover your starters weaknesses! - Whenever a gym leader would reach their final pokémon, some awesome triumphant music would play, getting you all hyped and ready for action! (Gamefreak PLEASE bring this back!) - Those heartfelt scenes with N. You really got to know him as a person through these, not just as "oh hey your the guy I have to beat". Plus, Unwavering Emotions...I'm not crying, your crying!!! -the attention to detail of the locations! This includes, but is not limited to, Castelia City's wrapping street and plethora of allyways, Skyarrow Bridge's breathtaking view ( plus ghost girl and great music), and Opelucid City's frozen landscape! - A Great soundtrack. Houses great pieces like the aforementioned Unwavering Emotions, Skyarrow Bridge, and the Gym Leader Triumphant Track, but also Accumula Town, Driftveil City, Gym Leader Theme, and that DAMN ELITE FOUR THEME. I get chills just thinking about it. These little things just added up and made the whole experience more enjoyable.

One thing I don't typically see pointed as a flaw for Gen 1 (probably because there are so many others) but is still REALLY bad, is your opponents DON'T USE PP. In other words, you'll end up using Struggle, they never will. Unbelievable. As someone who still loves your original Generations countdown to this day, seeing it revitalized with some of the most phenomenal and Fawful-esque language in script writing, while expected to be excellent at this point, still managed to subvert every expectation. Seeing Gen 5 as your favorite and Gen 7 in the top three was something I had hoped for but never expected. Congratulations, you surprised the hell out of me and I loved it. Now if you excuse me, I must continue preparing for the release of Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. Full orchestral OST, co-op, and hopefully the return of a certain Z-Powered girl... Even if it's a spinoff it's day one for me. Catch me day one, because I'll be catching em all.
I won't lie, when a gen convinces me that I do want to catch 'em all (or at least every mon in that gen) I know it's a good fucking game. That's why gen 7 and 5 are on top for me. 7 however also convinced me to breed flawless Pokemon from every egg group and grab every nature... it was a hell of a grind but completing that personal goal felt so satisfying!
Wait do people actually though? I had a period where i found it meh, that was after the inital hype i had for it. But looking at it again alongside the story and the pokemon, it's actually kinda great!
gen 7 was really cool the first time i played it through but after that...it just wasn't that good. the postgame was pretty lacking because ultra beasts/rainbow rocket were one time only, and battle tree was kind of cool but nothing really special. overall i think the gen 7 games are too reliant on story, so you can only really enjoy them the first time, and that's the biggest problem i have with them.
True, and as a competitive battler festival plaza is a nightmare, that's probably why i'm also a little more mixed. But it's not a bad game by no means
Here's my list 7- Generation 1 (It was boring, glitchy, and the Pokemon were pretty bad) 6- Generation 6 (Sure, it introduced mega evolution and amazing graphics, but that's pretty much all it has going for it) 5- Generation 2 (The region was basically Kanto V2, but it has one of my favorite starters, Meganium) 4- Generation 3 (I actually loved the region, it has Swampert, and it has some of the best legendaries) 3- Generation 7 (The soundtrack was amazing, loved the story, it had Primarina, it had beautiful graphics, and it's region is beautiful) 2- Generation 4 (The starters were amazing, I loved the snowy parts of the region, and it had one of the best soundtracks and stories) 1- Generation 5 (It had the best story, soundtrack, Pokemon, and Team Plasma is the best villain team, it also has Samurott and Serperior)
I mean...gen 6's pokemon were pretty nice...and Lysandre really wasn't that bad...the music in my opinion was pretty good to and had great starters...all of them really
I finished X for the first time recently and I actually ended up really liking the game, it was a very enjoyable experience for me, and it was a breath of fresh air after playing Sun and Ultra Moon back to back, along with replays for Alpha Sapphire, White (3rd time), and Sun casual """"""speedrun"""""" (basically just chugging ahead with a mostly pre chosen team with no regard for backtracking or side quests)
This is probably The Best Revival Countdown made and one of your best masterpieces ever! It was worth every second waiting for it! And That Amazing Twist at the end finding out that Gen 4's Golden Crown has been stolen by the most underrated and most deserving generation was awesome! Every single entry had more than amazing explanation to justify their place! And I enjoyed every single second of the video! From naming every flaw Gen 1 had while still naming all of its charms, to your Heartfelt Speech to how Gen 6 was made for the sake of carving Pokemon's future, to somehow making me believe that Gen 5 truly deserves the Top spot ( Though Personally I still think Gen 4 is the best, Gen 5 has gotten real close to beating it lately ) Saying that this video is anything less than perfect is a MISTAKE! Bjorn Tessendorf I have played Black 1 and White 2 and I didn't like either a lot. For some reason, I like Gen 6 due to the Hoenn remakes though not because of X and Y since they are a little too easy. I find the remakes harder than those two

GEN4 (The songs, The Phys/Spec split, The Legends, all A+) 3. GEN3 (Love this place. All there is to say in the matter. Go Team Magma) 4. GEN7 (A plus: great designs, fairly difficult, and my boi Guzma. A minus: CUTSCENES EVERYWHERE) 5. GEN2 (Literally Gen 1 but better. But had some additions that just make me say "why". Looking at you Stantler and Smoochum) 6. GEN1 (Spawned my hate for Psychic types) 7. GEN6 (So god danged easy, Team Flare is a joke, the Rivals suck)
love 5 too. cuz it was the only time a rival beat me to the league and got one of the legendaries. by beat me i mean you get there when he just got done with the champion.
it cuz people couldn't handle playing with new pokemon without their old favorites. like every gen got old pokemon in it but gen 5 was only new at the time pokemon, which made me happy while friends was struggling cuz they didn't know anything.pikachu wasn't even in it! add N changing his whole party every time you face him and him getting one of the legendaries and there goes the hate. i was like finally someone other than me getting one of the box cover legendary. and the fact that you couldn't finish the league cuz N just finish with the champion. i loved it all. haters just can't handle the change. you can tell cuz in sequel games, old pokemon came back.
Gen 5 is so nostalgic to me. And it's actually one of the first Pokemon games I played, if not the first one. But I just wish I could have my old Pokemon Black back because I had lost it around the time that BW2 came out. And because of that experience I just never found myself truly loving Pokemon White 2 and the thoughts of my lost Pokemon Black had always lurked in the back of my mind and it had just always made me sad. And to me, what really rubbed the salt in the wound was that the trainer from BW1 was always being brought up or referred to in BW2. And I just realized nobody probably cares about this.
I bought Pokemon Red a while back. Played a bit. Didn't have fun but tried to be positive because everyone was telling me it was the best thing ever. Stopped playing after 5 hours of playtime.
I bought them on 3ds virtual console thinking “they’ve got to be as good as I remember. Fuck I’ll give them another chance, and no genwunner will influence my opinion” and about 3 hours later “...... anyone that un ironically says Pokémon was never good after red and blue is dead to me” did the missingno glitch to level up all my Pokémon to 100, transferred them to moon, haven’t picked it up since.
My own list: 7: Gen 1 6: Gen 2 5: Gen 3 4: Gen 6 3: Gen 7 (Tapu koko is my 3rd fav mon) 2: Gen 5 (amazing gen) 1: Gen 4 Gen 4 was my first and damn it, it's my absolute favorite for every reason imaginable. Nostalgia? Yes. Gameplay? Other then the speed, Yes. The Evil Team? Hell Yes! The Pokémon? Oh my god yes. Infernape is my absolute favorite Pokémon. Darkrai my second! Theres maybe two-five gen 4 PokéPals I don't like.
The Irish Elite Yeah! XD Gen 4 is my favourite as well! It has my favourite roster of pokemon, with the least number of pokemon I hate out any region's roster ( those being Burmy and Wormadam ) but that is not enough to even bring down Sinnoh's amazing family of pokemon like The 2 best starters ever, Infernape and Empoleon, along with Torterra, Roserade, Staraptor, Gliscor, Gastrodon, Luxray, Garchomp, Froslass, Rotom, Electivire, Gallade, Darkrai, The Creation Trio, Floatzel, Dusknoir, Driflblim, Toxicroak, Lucario, Weavile, Regigigas, Drapion and Pretty much Everyone else ( except the Burmy line ) And Gen 4 is just perfect in every way, I even like the slower pacing of the game so I can enjoy the game longer and it's so relaxing! And I havent even talked about the Johto remakes and Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Time and Darkness! By far the best generation in my opinion! But I have to admit, Gen 5 is giving Gen 4 a really good run for its money lately!

Gen 7 (The best story in a pokemon game, and the best characters in a pokemon game, Gamefreak went a whole other direction and I loved it) 4. Gen 6 (The first 3d Pokemon, it also remade what is my second favorite game of all time, Pokemon Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire) 5. Gen 4 (The most underrated Gen, people overlook this one too much calling it the black sheep. I for one adore it for its qualities and Pokemon) 6. Gen 2 (This gen was the start of my way to becoming a fan of the series, Gen 2 did everything better Gen 1 didn't. But it hasn't aged all too well) 7. Gen 1 (My first ever access to the series, the classic granddaddy of the saga, while washed up now it'll always be remembered)

I can count the number of SwSh Pokemon I genuinely like on one hand, maybe two. It lacked in quality *and* quantity. That said, the few that I did like hit it out of the park.
Generation 5 is my favorite as well. When you give me a region based on my hometown and my favorite animal as a starter, the rest is just icing on the cake.
I started playing the main-line Pokémon games in Black 2, now seeing a mon from that gen in the more recent titles is like meeting an old friend. I know Miloins may seem like a funny name to give the first Pokémon you catch but it still rings true to various other ridiculous names given over the years.
To my surprise, I was somehow able to predict your entire list(except for the place for Gen 7. That caught me by surprise). I actually agree with your list though I still can't decide if I prefer Gen 4 or Gen 7 over the other. Because of Gen 5's placing, I've decided to replay Pokemon Black just to rekindle my love for that gem.

I'm just saying this after reading the comments, why does eveyone hate gen 6 or 7? I do know they have some big flaws, but so did every gen. Gen 6 was basically a fancy test seeing what people do and don't like, trying things, fixing old problems, etc. And gen 7 i honestly just lived. They made old pokemon amazing via alolan forms (even if there was a decent bit of nostalgia pandering i will admit) and new GORGEOUS locations. It had enough amazing beauty and originality to stand on its own and bring more content to the table, and enough old gen stuff to appeal and please some older players, and let people feel a little bit of familiarity. That last bit honestly applies to both gen 6 and 7. My personal favorite is 100% Gen 5. An amazing stories, outstanding locations, an AMAZING soundtrack, great competotive battling balances and changes, a beautiful new roster, both design wise and numerically. We had the kyerums, genesect, reshiram and zekrom, the axew line, Hydreigon, scolipede, volcarona, the tympol line, and my personal all time favorite, samurott and oshawott, plus victini, the fossils, the snivy line, etc. Plus ACTUAL SEQUALS!!! BLACK AND WHITE 2 WERE SEQUALS! WITH NEW AREAS, OLD RETURNING POKEMON, REVAMPED STORY AND LOCATIONS! THEY BASICALLY GOT THE FULL 9 YARDS, AND THEN REDID IT AGAIN BUT EVEN BETTER! I will ALWAYS love gen 5, but i also will always at the very least like all the other generations.
pokecraft king The main problem people have with Gen 7 is that there is no freedom. You are stopped for tutorials or cutscenes every five steps and you are pretty much railroaded down a single path with little exploration and side areas.
And Gen 6 was filled with so many problems. They worked so hard on making pokemon 3d with beautiful graphics that they rushed other every part of the game. The story is terrible, the villain team is so stupid, the game was way too easy, all of the 4 rivals were boring and 1 dimensional, the gym leaders were easily forgettable and had no purpose in the story, and there was literally no post game after beating the champion.
AHighDef. Experience I honestly think this was due to a heavy focus on story in the game, plus i just finished ultra sun and honestly diddnt mind in the slighest. Plus seeing people have actual fluid(ish) movement and more than 2 or 3 faces to show emotion was cool. Plus while there was not much freedom, i still had a blast exploring sidepaths and looking around and seeing the sights. And honestly, gamefreak spent so much time on the game, with the different cutscenes and the story that they want ro make sure you see the whole thing.
Because Emerald is the definitive way to play Generation 3, there is more stuff to do in this game compared to ORAS which had a decade of new technology and GameFreak was lazy and didnt even add the battle frontier. Gen 6 had bad pacing, boring villians, the gyms got stale, its forgettable, easy, and as i mentioned before, began a big change in GameFreaks philosphy of pandering to Gen 1 and sacrificing quality to desperately chase this crowd. For people who have been fans for a long time, it was the first time people were let down by a pokemon game, and for a series that always seemed to be enjoyable, its a big deal.
MagmaGruntMichael ORAS aren’t Emerald remakes so that’s why there isn’t a battle frontier, and ORAS had the Delta Episode to do post-game. And Gen 4 had much slower pacing and had forgettable gyms as well. Gen 6 contributed important things though, like the Fairy Type, Mega Evolution, Customization, a new 3D world, and it’s region roster had a great variety.

Including spinoffs, here’s my list: 7. Generation 1 (First is the worst, and this gen was just kinda bad, didn’t make too much sense, and was obviously the first game in the series) 6. Generation 7 (Extremely easy, and although it’s branded to be a new journey, it still feels like a Pokémon game but with features that make it completely “eh” for me) 5. Generation 6 (Didn’t introduce anything that felt that new, but was still good and had SMD which is a nice game, and ORAS is really good) 4. Generation 2 (Definitely a step up from Gen 1, but still doesn’t know exactly what it’s trying to do but is still fun and I’ll replay it to this day) 3. Generation 3 (About the time Pokemon figured out what it wanted to be, remade Gen 1 well, and started the Mystery Dungeon games) 2. Generation 5 (Amazing music, great story, good characters and fun gameplay, a great Pokémon gen besides Gates to Infinity that I’ve played a couple times each) 1. Generation 4 (God, I love these games. The main series ones, DPP and HGSS, are absolutely fantastic and really got me into Pokémon, and the spin-offs, mainly EOS, are absolutely amazing. This is definitely the generation that made me a huge Pokémon fan, and that I would encourage any RPG fan to play)
I kinda have to agree with you on gen 7. It felt a bit easy until the champion of the league. I pretty much took out all of the elite 4 without looking at any guide or knowing what types to prepare for.

I can't recall if Sinnoh had any Kanto callbacks apart from the first gym being a rock user, the standard forest area and the haunted mansion. That's in every gen and it's done differently, so I give it a pass

I don't see anything wrong with callbacks and references since it's the most popular generation, a little thing like the main character in Sun and Moon is a pretty small nitpick. And don't forget LG/FR were also necessary for trading to RSE to complete the Pokedex or get some Gen 1 Pokémon that weren't in the game.
There would be a *massive* amount of comparisons towards Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokemon.
One of them would be between bottom-of-the-barrel female stereotypes that were also main characters of the Pokemon X & Y anime and Sonic X.
One of them is the Classic Era of Sonic vs. the Generation 1 of Pokemon.
In terms of quality, at least the Classic Era of Sonic would be polished for so many years while Generation 1 was debatably another one of those many replayable RPG series then as it got older and older, its quality severely rotted to the point where I could never unsee Fawful's Minion's massive criticisms towards the era that made him turn into AVGN (awesome TH-camr, he is overhated for retarded reasons by Amourshippers that defend that TH-camr's clones) which he pointed out himself (one thing he could have remembered to point out is that Misty actually WAS like Serena from most of the Pokemon X & Y anime back then which we do remember when she was ready to have a catfight with Jessie Rocket who was a mean girl stereotype back then far more than nowafays where they tried to flesh her out a bit more to make her feel like a good guy, as neutral as she was since she worked for a Pokemon-capturing big boss).
I'm not really seeing your point. If you're comparing Genesis Sonic to Pokémon RBY Sonic's first 4 games have great graphics, music, and gameplay that are arguably the best 2d Sonic has ever been. I enjoy Gen One but some of the graphics are creepy and outdated, and the music is very eerie at times. RBY was also horribly broken to the point that you could cheat to win. Overall I think RBY are great games for their time and are the furthest things are horrible though. Pokémon went uphill for the next ten years and Sonic slowly declined

I am very happy to see the negative narrative gen 5 had to endure for so long has been broken down and chipped away as more time as passed. I played gen 5 in a bit of a vacuum, I didn't know many others opinions on Pokemon games in general, but once I started to look more into the community, I was utterly baffled to see gen 5 taking so much heat. The region and especially the Pokemon, and looking back, very shallow reasoning behind most of the negativity. You can certainly have issues with the games, and the Pokemon, but harping on the same few designs, talking about how "linear" the games were, despite Pokemon games being pretty linear to begin with, a lot of the common critiques haven't aged well, most just sounding like blind hate.
Gen 5 is my favorite generation by a long shot, and I'm glad people have not only come around to accept it in droves, but give it the much needed praise it deserves.

I think it has to do with more of a nostalgia cycle than anything else. Gen 4 and 5 are looked as the best generations right now because they haven’t had a remake since their release and people who grew up playing them are now adults and are looking back fondly on them. That doesn’t mean they are bad, far from it, it’s just that the Pokémon company hasn’t given it the love it deserves lately and it really is striking the balance of great games and nostalgia right now. Imagine people remembering gen 7 10 years from now? It’s gonna be nuts I tell you.

Gen 3 was in the same boat for a while where everyone wanted remakes and loved gen 3 but then the remakes came out and it kinda left a bad taste in people’s mouths. Yeah Gen6 was lacking although it was great, it's just sad that Pokemon Z was never made to expand greatly upon Kalos. ORAS was vastly inferior to Emerald unfortunately & the reason it gets hated is because of how the game pretty much trolls Emerald players by entirely removing the Battle Frontier, & lacks any sort of trainer customization. We were expecting Hoenn to look all pretty like Kalos, although it ended up just being a lazy recreation with 3D graphics of the original maps for the most part.

The game is filled with care and it's really clear that they created the game with the intention of injecting new life and new ideas into Pokemon. In that regard, they really succeed in achieving that goal.
However....the biggest weakness of this gen, to me at least, is the the pokemon themselves. No, I'm not talking about the designs, I'm talking about the weird evolution pacing that a bunch of gen 5 pokemon are shackled with. Some pokemon take a LUDICROUS amount of time to become useful and are just deadweight for so long due to their lack of power.

It's a shame really. So many of these are cool pokemon, but there are so many instances where you could be past the sixth gym in the game and still be stuck with first stage evolutions. Heck, some take so long to evolve that you are practically at the end of the game by the time they finally evolve. When you look at the evolution rates of the other regions, no other region takes this long to evolve and the Unova evolution pacing sticks out like a sore thumb.
If not for the poor evolution pacing, gen 5 could be even more coveted than it already is.
Gradient It’s rather funny calling it poor evolution pacing on Pokemon that are designed to be introduced at roughly near the appropriate times these evolutions are remotely relevant at. Let alone not even considering the multiple tools the game provided to facilitate effective level grinding without a game breaking mechanic like Exp, All. Deino, and Larvesta are introduced late and post game, let alone the post game being half of another region. Where as Gen 7 Had early in-game Pokémon that couldn’t fully evolve until damn near the end of the game. Which they fixed and in some cases made worse in US/UM.
It does clearly shows that you indeed have never played Gen V. Cause giving a detriment to a series without actually understanding its focus on both content and narrative sounds incredibly shallow.

Looking back on it, generation 5 was a masterpiece in all areas that matter. Best story in the series (though sun and moon may rival it) an insanely powerful and creative Pokemon roster, and a captivating region. the sequels further expanded upon the originals, bw2 are imo the best pokemon games to date imo. Black 2 and White 2 also still have the largest post game to date (even surpassing hggs). People may complain about the linearity, but I feel that's a side effect of the deep story it was trying to tell. Overall gen 5 was a fucking gem, and I'm glad people are coming around to realize its greatness.

If you take out the "bad" evo lines of Trubbish and Vanillite, you still have 151 all new Pokémon. Gen 5 had so many great designs, like Scolipede, Bisharp, Volcarona, Galvantula, Zebstrika, Serperior, and more.

This may be a little late on my end, but you have such a way with words that's always a joy to hear. And while I'm not sure I agree with every choice(gen 3 is probably my favorite), I respect and admire how reverently you treat each generation and find all sorts of good things for each one. I even gained a new appreciation for X and Y after considering how important it was for the series.

Some of my favourite things about gen 5 were the little touches, like:
- The first gym changes what type it focuses on based on what starter you pick, making sure you always have the disadvantage if you just went in guns blazing with them. You had to find a new friend that would cover your starters weaknesses!
- Whenever a gym leader would reach their final pokémon, some awesome triumphant music would play, getting you all hyped and ready for action! (Gamefreak PLEASE bring this back!)

- A Great soundtrack. Houses great pieces like the aforementioned Unwavering Emotions, Skyarrow Bridge, and the Gym Leader Triumphant Track, but also Accumula Town, Driftveil City, Gym Leader Theme, and that DAMN ELITE FOUR THEME. I get chills just thinking about it.
These little things just added up and made the whole experience more enjoyable.

One thing I don't typically see pointed as a flaw for Gen 1 (probably because there are so many others) but is still REALLY bad, is your opponents DON'T USE PP. In other words, you'll end up using Struggle, they never will. Unbelievable.
As someone who still loves your original Generations countdown to this day, seeing it revitalized with some of the most phenomenal and Fawful-esque language in script writing, while expected to be excellent at this point, still managed to subvert every expectation. Seeing Gen 5 as your favorite and Gen 7 in the top three was something I had hoped for but never expected. Congratulations, you surprised the hell out of me and I loved it.
Now if you excuse me, I must continue preparing for the release of Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. Full orchestral OST, co-op, and hopefully the return of a certain Z-Powered girl... Even if it's a spinoff it's day one for me. Catch me day one, because I'll be catching em all.

I won't lie, when a gen convinces me that I do want to catch 'em all (or at least every mon in that gen) I know it's a good fucking game. That's why gen 7 and 5 are on top for me. 7 however also convinced me to breed flawless Pokemon from every egg group and grab every nature... it was a hell of a grind but completing that personal goal felt so satisfying!

Wait do people actually though? I had a period where i found it meh, that was after the inital hype i had for it. But looking at it again alongside the story and the pokemon, it's actually kinda great!
gen 7 was really cool the first time i played it through but after that...it just wasn't that good. the postgame was pretty lacking because ultra beasts/rainbow rocket were one time only, and battle tree was kind of cool but nothing really special.
overall i think the gen 7 games are too reliant on story, so you can only really enjoy them the first time, and that's the biggest problem i have with them.

The games are a drag and just not really that fun the second time around. Why not add a fast forward cutscene option?
Here's my list
7- Generation 1 (It was boring, glitchy, and the Pokemon were pretty bad)
6- Generation 6 (Sure, it introduced mega evolution and amazing graphics, but that's pretty much all it has going for it)
5- Generation 2 (The region was basically Kanto V2, but it has one of my favorite starters, Meganium)
4- Generation 3 (I actually loved the region, it has Swampert, and it has some of the best legendaries)
3- Generation 7 (The soundtrack was amazing, loved the story, it had Primarina, it had beautiful graphics, and it's region is beautiful)
2- Generation 4 (The starters were amazing, I loved the snowy parts of the region, and it had one of the best soundtracks and stories)
1- Generation 5 (It had the best story, soundtrack, Pokemon, and Team Plasma is the best villain team, it also has Samurott and Serperior)
I mean...gen 6's pokemon were pretty nice...and Lysandre really wasn't that bad...the music in my opinion was pretty good to and had great starters...all of them really

I finished X for the first time recently and I actually ended up really liking the game, it was a very enjoyable experience for me, and it was a breath of fresh air after playing Sun and Ultra Moon back to back, along with replays for Alpha Sapphire, White (3rd time), and Sun casual """"""speedrun"""""" (basically just chugging ahead with a mostly pre chosen team with no regard for backtracking or side quests)
I can tell you put as much effort into this video as Game Freak put in Generation 5! :)

And That Amazing Twist at the end finding out that Gen 4's Golden Crown has been stolen by the most underrated and most deserving generation was awesome! Every single entry had more than amazing explanation to justify their place! And I enjoyed every single second of the video! From naming every flaw Gen 1 had while still naming all of its charms, to your Heartfelt Speech to how Gen 6 was made for the sake of carving Pokemon's future, to somehow making me believe that Gen 5 truly deserves the Top spot ( Though Personally I still think Gen 4 is the best, Gen 5 has gotten real close to beating it lately ) Saying that this video is anything less than perfect is a MISTAKE! Bjorn Tessendorf I have played Black 1 and White 2 and I didn't like either a lot. For some reason, I like Gen 6 due to the Hoenn remakes though not because of X and Y since they are a little too easy. I find the remakes harder than those two

1. GEN5 (Favorite pokemon designs, team, Gyms, and music. Plus Hue is my favorite Rival)
2. GEN4 (The songs, The Phys/Spec split, The Legends, all A+)
3. GEN3 (Love this place. All there is to say in the matter. Go Team Magma)
4. GEN7 (A plus: great designs, fairly difficult, and my boi Guzma. A minus: CUTSCENES EVERYWHERE)
5. GEN2 (Literally Gen 1 but better. But had some additions that just make me say "why". Looking at you Stantler and Smoochum)

Gen 5 is so nostalgic to me. And it's actually one of the first Pokemon games I played, if not the first one. But I just wish I could have my old Pokemon Black back because I had lost it around the time that BW2 came out. And because of that experience I just never found myself truly loving Pokemon White 2 and the thoughts of my lost Pokemon Black had always lurked in the back of my mind and it had just always made me sad. And to me, what really rubbed the salt in the wound was that the trainer from BW1 was always being brought up or referred to in BW2. And I just realized nobody probably cares about this.

I bought Pokemon Red a while back. Played a bit. Didn't have fun but tried to be positive because everyone was telling me it was the best thing ever. Stopped playing after 5 hours of playtime.
I bought them on 3ds virtual console thinking “they’ve got to be as good as I remember. Fuck I’ll give them another chance, and no genwunner will influence my opinion” and about 3 hours later “...... anyone that un ironically says Pokémon was never good after red and blue is dead to me” did the missingno glitch to level up all my Pokémon to 100, transferred them to moon, haven’t picked it up since.
The only thing that motivates me to play R/B/Y is nostalgia. If you want to experience those games, I'd recommend the remakes.

Gen 4 was my first and damn it, it's my absolute favorite for every reason imaginable. Nostalgia? Yes. Gameplay? Other then the speed, Yes. The Evil Team? Hell Yes! The Pokémon? Oh my god yes. Infernape is my absolute favorite Pokémon. Darkrai my second! Theres maybe two-five gen 4 PokéPals I don't like.

It has my favourite roster of pokemon, with the least number of pokemon I hate out any region's roster ( those being Burmy and Wormadam ) but that is not enough to even bring down Sinnoh's amazing family of pokemon like The 2 best starters ever, Infernape and Empoleon, along with Torterra, Roserade, Staraptor, Gliscor, Gastrodon, Luxray, Garchomp, Froslass, Rotom, Electivire, Gallade, Darkrai, The Creation Trio, Floatzel, Dusknoir, Driflblim, Toxicroak, Lucario, Weavile, Regigigas, Drapion and Pretty much Everyone else ( except the Burmy line ) And Gen 4 is just perfect in every way, I even like the slower pacing of the game so I can enjoy the game longer and it's so relaxing! And I havent even talked about the Johto remakes and Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Time and Darkness! By far the best generation in my opinion! But I have to admit, Gen 5 is giving Gen 4 a really good run for its money lately!
1. Gen 3 (Hands down my favorite gen in the series. Gen 1 introduced me to Pokemon, Gen 2 got me hooked to Pokemon, Gen 3 made me the hardest of hardcore fan I am today.)
2. Gen 5 (Changed the way I viewed the franchise forever with its widest selection of Pokemon in the big region of Unova)
3. Gen 7 (The best story in a pokemon game, and the best characters in a pokemon game, Gamefreak went a whole other direction and I loved it)
4. Gen 6 (The first 3d Pokemon, it also remade what is my second favorite game of all time, Pokemon Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire)
5. Gen 4 (The most underrated Gen, people overlook this one too much calling it the black sheep. I for one adore it for its qualities and Pokemon)
6. Gen 2 (This gen was the start of my way to becoming a fan of the series, Gen 2 did everything better Gen 1 didn't. But it hasn't aged all too well)
7. Gen 1 (My first ever access to the series, the classic granddaddy of the saga, while washed up now it'll always be remembered)

Generation 5 is my favorite as well. When you give me a region based on my hometown and my favorite animal as a starter, the rest is just icing on the cake.
I started playing the main-line Pokémon games in Black 2, now seeing a mon from that gen in the more recent titles is like meeting an old friend. I know Miloins may seem like a funny name to give the first Pokémon you catch but it still rings true to various other ridiculous names given over the years.
To my surprise, I was somehow able to predict your entire list(except for the place for Gen 7. That caught me by surprise). I actually agree with your list though I still can't decide if I prefer Gen 4 or Gen 7 over the other. Because of Gen 5's placing, I've decided to replay Pokemon Black just to rekindle my love for that gem.

so good to see that Unova is finally getting the praise that it ever deserved
I'm just saying this after reading the comments, why does eveyone hate gen 6 or 7? I do know they have some big flaws, but so did every gen. Gen 6 was basically a fancy test seeing what people do and don't like, trying things, fixing old problems, etc. And gen 7 i honestly just lived. They made old pokemon amazing via alolan forms (even if there was a decent bit of nostalgia pandering i will admit) and new GORGEOUS locations. It had enough amazing beauty and originality to stand on its own and bring more content to the table, and enough old gen stuff to appeal and please some older players, and let people feel a little bit of familiarity. That last bit honestly applies to both gen 6 and 7. My personal favorite is 100% Gen 5. An amazing stories, outstanding locations, an AMAZING soundtrack, great competotive battling balances and changes, a beautiful new roster, both design wise and numerically. We had the kyerums, genesect, reshiram and zekrom, the axew line, Hydreigon, scolipede, volcarona, the tympol line, and my personal all time favorite, samurott and oshawott, plus victini, the fossils, the snivy line, etc. Plus ACTUAL SEQUALS!!! BLACK AND WHITE 2 WERE SEQUALS! WITH NEW AREAS, OLD RETURNING POKEMON, REVAMPED STORY AND LOCATIONS! THEY BASICALLY GOT THE FULL 9 YARDS, AND THEN REDID IT AGAIN BUT EVEN BETTER! I will ALWAYS love gen 5, but i also will always at the very least like all the other generations.
pokecraft king The main problem people have with Gen 7 is that there is no freedom. You are stopped for tutorials or cutscenes every five steps and you are pretty much railroaded down a single path with little exploration and side areas.
And Gen 6 was filled with so many problems. They worked so hard on making pokemon 3d with beautiful graphics that they rushed other every part of the game. The story is terrible, the villain team is so stupid, the game was way too easy, all of the 4 rivals were boring and 1 dimensional, the gym leaders were easily forgettable and had no purpose in the story, and there was literally no post game after beating the champion.
AHighDef. Experience I honestly think this was due to a heavy focus on story in the game, plus i just finished ultra sun and honestly diddnt mind in the slighest. Plus seeing people have actual fluid(ish) movement and more than 2 or 3 faces to show emotion was cool. Plus while there was not much freedom, i still had a blast exploring sidepaths and looking around and seeing the sights. And honestly, gamefreak spent so much time on the game, with the different cutscenes and the story that they want ro make sure you see the whole thing.
Because Emerald is the definitive way to play Generation 3, there is more stuff to do in this game compared to ORAS which had a decade of new technology and GameFreak was lazy and didnt even add the battle frontier. Gen 6 had bad pacing, boring villians, the gyms got stale, its forgettable, easy, and as i mentioned before, began a big change in GameFreaks philosphy of pandering to Gen 1 and sacrificing quality to desperately chase this crowd. For people who have been fans for a long time, it was the first time people were let down by a pokemon game, and for a series that always seemed to be enjoyable, its a big deal.
MagmaGruntMichael ORAS aren’t Emerald remakes so that’s why there isn’t a battle frontier, and ORAS had the Delta Episode to do post-game. And Gen 4 had much slower pacing and had forgettable gyms as well. Gen 6 contributed important things though, like the Fairy Type, Mega Evolution, Customization, a new 3D world, and it’s region roster had a great variety.
