      Check trail closures before you go. Titus Canyon, Steele Pass and the racetrack playa were all closed last I checked.

      We have a detailed route guide for Death Valley on our website --> overlandtrailguides.com
      Biggest thing is checking which roads/trails are currently open, as a lot of stuff remains closed in DVNP like Saline valley Road, Steele Pass, Titus canyon, which makes it challenging to create a loop or point-to-point adventure with so many closures.

    I just came back to Chicago last night from Death Valley.
    Dis most trails on a 2021 Chevy Colorado V6, rear wheel drive, stock suspension, Cooper Adventurer tires on rear, and IRONMAN R-B SUV tires on front. Went to charcoal kilns, Mahogany campground, telescope peak, and also explored many other lose gravel rd. On my way to Panamint springs I spotted a stalled red camper van from Quebec with two young ladies, I offered help, they told me they had a leaking brake line, I got under the can with one of the ladies and spotted the problem, using crazy glue, electrical tape, then ducks tape, and to hold it tight to prevent failure I used plastic ties to hold it all tight, tested the brakes and it worked. Police and road assistant did nothing for them, they had spent all night on the side of the road and no one stopped to help them. I always travel with all my hand and power tools, along with first aid kit, and ropes, shovel, pry bar, etc.
    I also had two spare tires (just in case) and did not need them. Made it back to Chicago in 29 hours (rest included)
    So a stock suspension Chevy Colorado (mine is 2021, V6) with truck tires will get you to most locations in the park.

      Many places sure, but I wouldn't try taking a 2wd vehicle to locations like Dedeckera Canyon, Echo Canyon, Chloride City and a dozen other trails in DVNP. You'll end up stuck or in a broken vehicle ;)

    I’ve been following you guys since the beginning. It seems like every time I’m itching to go somewhere you guys come out with the video within a month of the idea popping into my head. Super excited to see how much you guys have grown. Been trying to get my crew on one of your routes but seems like something always comes up. If you ever want another yota in the crew, I have a capable rig and I’m willing to travel. I think we’re based out of the same area! Would love to join you guys.

    I saw a FWC, how did it handle the pitches? We will be in Death Valley this winter and I wonder how the truck will handle the tougher terrain with the camper. Thank you.

    I wonder if these roads are worse from all the rain now

    • @OverlandTrailGuides
      @OverlandTrailGuides  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Many trails unfortunately remain closed following the hurricane and atmospheric rivers that ravaged Death Valley in 2023.

      @@OverlandTrailGuides man all these rains are really making it hard for me to learn how to offroad / overland. Got a Bronco and the rains been so crazy ever since

    Wanting to do an adventure to death valley, from Scranton Pennsylvania. Do you think it would be easiest to drive drom Pa in my Wrangler, or fly to Vegas and rent a beater to do the dirt roads? Is that possible?

    • @OverlandTrailGuides
      @OverlandTrailGuides  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a long drive just to drive the trails of DVNP! I'd recommend flying into LA, renting an overland specific vehicle and driving up to DV. Be sure to check DVNP's road statuses page, as several popular trails/roads like Titus Canyon, Steele Pas and large portions of Saline Valley Road remain closed. There's still a lot to experience out there, but it makes linking portions of the park a lot more tedious since many of the main connectors are closed.

    Do you have an alternate route for the adventure route with the current road closures?

    • @OverlandTrailGuides
      @OverlandTrailGuides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try the Trona Desert Trail on our site. Lots of closures in DV make it impossible to connect various trails together right now.

    Did you take the Echo Canyon Trail up to Rhyolite?

    • @OverlandTrailGuides
      @OverlandTrailGuides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did not, but that's currently on the DV To Do List! The original plan was to head out to Chloride City and burn the backroads towards Rhyolite, but we ended up taking the highway for the sake of time.

    No more jet fighters since 2019 crash. My son is an Aerospace engineer at China Lake and asked the pilots if it will ever be open to training ever again. The answer is no. It's too bad the National Park System won't put up a plaque stating that there is no more jet fighters practicing there. When we stopped by two years ago,we waited several hours a long with many others. We stopped in Ridgecrest to visit our son and he asked at work the next day and found out the bad news. When he went to China Lake to do his final interview we traveled up to Father Crowley Point and we're thrilled by a day of incredible aviation fun. There was a bus load of Britons taking pictures. The guy I talked to said he came to California every year to go plane spotting. I asked if they had plans to go into the park proper and he said no. I then asked if he'd ever been to Yosemite, the Sequoia's the Pacific Coast and he said they only come for air shows and Rainbow Canyon.

      I was thinking the same thing after the description. Titus isn't rugged at all. Well it might be a little more now after the recent storms.
