I invited @magmidt, @WilliamBosi and @Pete_Whittaker to the brand-new climbing gym Hangar Ostrava in Czechia. ⚡ We had a totally full house in the gym, with lots of climbers eager to climb the first boulderproblems of the gym and enjoying the side events! We even had an extraordinary visitor from the world of MMA - the owner and promoter of the great MMA organization @oktagonmma - Ondřej Novotný, who fought a boulder called "Omoplata" - that was technical and the use of hands was almost pointless.
And the main exhibition came! ⭐ Each of us set a specific boulder problem, and each of us has built a boulder that fits our own style, hoping that the others would not be able to send it. How did this challenge full of strength moves, crimps, hard cracks @WideBoyz, small pinches and tricky slopers by @Euroholds turn out?

And Pete got it too, just couldn't press enough of the next hold as he's shorter and probably was all pumped out at that point. Adam is in his own league, though but all these guys are elite.

This guy really mantled on his own foot. Next level
Best moments for me are: 1. Adam mantling his foot 2. Will’s look at his fingers after sending his own boulder 3. Pete chalking up his knee
4. Pete opening his champagne cork decades after the others and being publicly exposed by the entertainer
5. Adam showing the crack beta, laying on the ground with his feet in the air like a helpless turtle
6. Adam setting the most ridiculous boulder only he could complete

For someone that hasn't climbed competitively in so long, was wild to see Magnus go as hard as he did next to people who are still pushing their limits. Fun vid, amazing effort
Yes, he was expecting to get his ass kicked but, as ever, he went as hard as he could. I thought he looked rather tense & nervous though. To be fair, I don't think Pete has competed since he was a teenager but I know what you mean. He's absolutely the best in the world at what he does
Magnus is a hell of a lot stronger than many people, and himself sometimes, give him credit for. He peaked at 9a+/b and onsighted 8c+ in 2013 when only 4 other people had made 8c+ or higher onsights, including Ondra and Megos.

@@boogaloo4640 It's not like he's been slacking either though. He's been pushing his physical ability (even if not strictly in climbing) all while continuing to climb at a fairly high level. It should also be considered that he's 5 years older than Ondra, which also counts for a lot in a sport that pushes the body as hard as climbing does.
He still looked a little pissed he didn't win in the end I thought. Showing the competitive fire will always be there haha

It also shows how he's great at adapting. Magnus wanted a mantle and Adam noticed he wouldn't be able to get that in three tries. And he adjusted to the crack climbing really well, even when it isn't something he does a lot. It's insane how good he is at reading problems, seeing as Pete hadn't climbed the route yet.

I've always said that Pete is one of the best routesetters. So many videos of him setting on his channel and others show just how creative he is with making unique moves.

Adam is just on another level. Can't believe how easy he made Will's problem look (especially since he says he is "weak on crimps") and the mantle move on Magnus' problem 🤯

ppls don't realize how hard this actually is, they make it look easy but it is ridiculously hard to hold your whole body weight with very little support

4:16 "complex boulder with different styles" is what adam ondra considers his strength over the others. The thinking behind this: I am just better in everything. So, if I mix everything, everyone will fail somewhere except for me haha

Love Pete, can hold his body weight in a hand jam for hours but can't pop the cork off a bottle with his thumb :) My favourite person ever.
My favorite part was all their reactions to opening the champagne on the mats like it was blasphemy.
Adam's positivity is infectious. Can't help but smile whenever he's talking to someone.
Oh yeah. His wrist warm up flippy circle thing in the video I think it was with the wide boyz always makes me smile. Just thinking about it makes me smile.

Coming from Magnus here, I'm surprised how humble he is. He said he'd be awful at this competition but he kept up really well. He seems to underestimate himself a lot
Reminds me of good will hunting. "There are only a handful of people in the world who can tell the difference between you and me but I'm one of them"
They are all at another level, but as god as Magnus is, he knows he can't win this. He is a legend still. Done so much for the sport.
Magnus is a narcissist, he claims to be humble but tries to show off with every possible occasion
He likes entertaining people. When he shows off it's for good fun. Like when he's with juji and does the grip strength tests. Everyone has fun around him and so does he, trying to push his hardest. Even if it's "showing off"

@@ciaochrystusa4778where does this mindset come from? Is there a particular moment that leaped out to you? Because I've seen Magnus trying and failing a lot of shit on camera and he still uploads it, and he also hangs out with a lot of climbers who are better than he is, and he won't hesitate to admit it. That seems like the opposite of narcissism. That said, he's great at what he does, and that's why people watch him, so if he shows off for the audience, can you blame him? It's literally his job. It's like saying a powerlifter is showing off by benching 495 - people wouldn't watch if he didn't. He's competitive but he doesn't put other people down.

a set and send league would be fun to watch, tho logistically problematic i imagine
I’d like to see Ai Mori (grit), Jana (tech), Brooke (all round) and Bertone (balance) do this same format - would be sooooo good
If it was really competitive and not just for fun though, you'd have to have a lot of well thought out and complex set of rules as well.
E.g. Ai Mori has had boulders where she could barely start due to her height and (relatively) weak jumping, and routesetters obviously weren't aiming for that. Imagine if others could deliberately exploit weaknesses like that.
I agree it's an amazing format for collaborations and not strictly competitive environments though.
@@danieltatar7575 I agree 100%, there's so much variance between climber's physical build that it's surprising how close they can compete in the current format. A testament to the route setters' expertise haha. So this kind of competition format would definitely fit more in an exhibition rather than in a real competition, but it would be great because you get to see so many new unique routes and moves since everyone sets to their strengths.
@@MrMystoa women’s version of this would be so sick, Ai Mori with her insane beta, Janjas power, Matilda Söderlund with her superhuman crimping. I’d pay to see that comp
Adam's problem was completely bonkers. It's frightening to think the human mind could even conceive of some of those moves. True legend of the sport.
Jesus Christ, wtf was that beta break by Adam on Magnus' boulder!? My ankle broke and tore every tendon and ligament just from watching this🤯 Do not try this at home, kids😅 Adam's the goat for a reason!

@@flooo5071 Magnus is hyper competitive. He wouldn't deliberately give an opportunity. I think the size is necessary to do the one armed mantle the way he did it.
To be fair I mentally broke many more tendons and bones when watching Pete's crack boulder. These guys are all beasts in their own style, but Adam makes all of them work!
@@durabelle yeah tose jams always look heinous as well😅 Maybe I'm just more used to seeing them by now (avid wide boyz watcher), but I've never seen someone use their hands to put more weight on their heel hook like that lol
@@nurfuerdieplaylist Yep, I watch everything on WideBoyz channel too, but somehow the other guys trying those moves looks much more dangerous than when Pete or Tom do them 😆 Even though they've all been visiting the cellar too!

Great to see Adam inviting top class to Czech Republic to encourage more people in climbing as it is to see them accept it.
Who knows maybe somewhere in that crowd was a kid that will become one of the best in next 20 years
As climbing is very popular sport in Czech Republic, its no wonder that the best climber in the world comes from that country.

The mantle technique was amazing, and the fact that it almost worked for Pete right there shows that it is a definitely useful technique (not just Adam Ondra level)

I assume we didn't get to see the others attempt it more than once because they probably fell down on the very beginning of the problem on their other attempts. That boulder is impossible for anyone that is not called Adam Ondra.

@@thatperson2478 yes they said that, and notice that the author of the boulder is the last one to try it so I assume they edited out the second attempt of the other guys, who tried it before Adam

This really exemplifies the different climbing techniques and styles. Kind of crazy to see how big the difference is between each competitor's strength vs the others. They make it seem so easy on their own specialties, especially Adam and Magnus climbing their own boulders.

I thought this gave a really excellent example of how different every climber can be and what a massive difference style and strengths can make to finishing a climb.
Setting the climbs like this to each climbers strengths aslo gave brilliant variety and unique routes. What an awesome format. Great idea really intreresting watch.

I really feel happy for Adam, I was a lucky man that visited Kotelna with Jakub (Kuba for friends) back in december 2022, I visited the old Hangar and decided to open my own gym in Portugal, which sadly isn't being so sucessful but gives me joy to see so many people in a climbing gym in such fantastic atmosphere. Gives me hope.

The video is awesome so far! Little feedback for the AO Team, the titles that appear on the video overlap with subtitles, so if you want to read them you need to disable subtitles, read the titles, then enable them again. Its not a big deal tbh just something I noticed that is not very intuitive
You can set the position of the TH-cam subtitle (at least on PC) to where you want by dragging.

What a great event! I'm really glad that the best climbers in the world show that we all have our own strengths and weaknesses, and that it is often possible to find your own solutions to the climbing routes! I think this is one of the best videos to show to a beginner!

This was an immensely entertaining video!!! I loved the whole idea. Those problems were so interesting and it was such a wonderful crowd, insanely good climbing, and great camaraderie.
frigging amazing to watch four huge climbing personalities (online) compete on boulders with such unique styles. It's exciting, knowing that all 4 of them have been to the cellar, and climb really hard outdoors.The moves that came out were insane!
ive been watching youtube for over 15 years and i just now understand how people say that they can be "inspired" by a persons videos. seeing adam's enthusiasm for what he loves to do, and his pure energy has moved me a bit. i havent done something like it in decades, but i'm going to choose a bit of adam and try to imitate it in my life. im not even a rock climber lol
most exciting comp I've seen in a while, of any sport! short but riveting! was so rooting for all 4 guys to top all 4 boulders.. especially Magnus of course! that Adam.. showing why he's the GOAT.. burrrruupp!
