Nathan Meekhof: Except that you still need to get rid of the entrails and if you don’t bury them a hundred feet deep every coyote and raccoon in town is going to dig them up and spread them all over the neighborhood.
A hunter should never have to say "this may be hard for some of you to watch" especially when the title of the video is "how to field dress a deer". Never apologize for showing how to butcher your own animal, people have done so for far more of human history than those who don't!!!
@@philoburtojuanes7814 I taught mine and then we watched other peoples ways on youtube and discussed alternatives and why other parts may be better than how I taught them. Daughter got hers at 13. Youth day to boot. She still is so proud about that day as am I!
I used to help my dad track and hold the legs starting at about age 8. I gutted my first deer at age 12 and have done quite a few since then. Brings back some memories, your boys are lucky and will remember this for the rest of their lives no doubt.
I'm a suburban mom from nj who has never hunted. Not sure why i'vee been watching these guys videos but I feel like I could field dress a small to medium deer after watching this. He is incredibly clear and descriptive in his narrative.
youre watching this because youre drunk on wine all day, lonely, and wonder what it would be like to get butchered by this big burly men. hahaha thanks for watching.
He’s making it look easy. It takes practice. Me and my friend wrestled with a deer for about 3 hours today to do everything. We got it done but it was a mess. You can tell we’re amateurs haha!
The ABSOLUTE BEST part this video was that you were teaching your boys young and teaching your boys RIGHT!!!! Also the time spent together is PRICELESS.
Danny Floyd: Do you know that’s the second most absurd statement I’ve heard in the past many decades. The MOST absurd was that every individual needs a personal nuclear fallout shelter.
Glad I found this video. This very minimalistic field dress is something I am going to consider next time. I also recently watched how the Meateater (Steve R) field dresses and he really opens up a large "path" from the stomach the whole way down between the rear loins (including cutting on each side of the pelvis, etc.). It's not that he didn't do a clean job and have good knife work, but its a little more risky cutting in between those loins and the primary thing is it really opens up and exposes more of the that lower/pelvic area. I guess that can be a pro (cools quicker), but I see mainly as a con as I am normally dragging my deer 1 mile+ and its more for dirt, leaves, etc. to get into. That is why I think this method may be the better option for me when i have a long drag out... To be honest the method I was taught is somewhere between the two (cut a little lower than you did and expose more, but not quite as much as the Meateater approach), but I think I will give this a whirl next time.
Good man teaching your boys!! My dad only fished with me got into hurting with my f.i.l.and bro . I. Law and they were my hunting partners and taught me how to do this!! Unfortunately they have both passed away 15 and 13 years ago and I no longer have my hunting buddies haven't gone since!! Raise em right and they will be stellar fathers great job bro!! Learn em right!!
Lot of older comments saying theyre not hunters; i am, thank YOU for doing this. Very amazing video i was able to download for when i go out this year!
I dont hunt, but feild dressing videos are a nice casual watch for me. This is the cleanest I've seen! Clean shot, clean dress, little issue with the fur, and no need to hike it up on a truck or anything, and no stomach muck getting into the cavity to clean later! Good job!
My dad lived hunting. We went a couple times when I was young. Only getting grouse and pheasant. He always wanted to get a deer. He died when I was 17 suddenly. Now that I have a kid of my own, I really wish we woulda got that deer so that he could have taught me how to do this. Tha k you for the vid and awesome that your teaching your boys. They'll never forget
The respect and care with which this animal was harvested is magnificent. A clean kill and skillful dressing shows honor and gratitude for the beast. It takes significant time, effort, practice, and discipline to make the whole process look this easy. Thank you for making and sharing this video, but most of all, thank you for educating your sons in the ways of a true hunter. That kind of reverence and appreciation for our precious game and natural world is exactly what the youth of today need.
My father in law always gets at least one deer 🦌 every fall. He sent us home with venison sausage and ground venison! I made the ground meat into venison burgers and never had them, and OMG! I love them so much. They are better than cow! I love how lean they are. Plus my GI system can digest it easier than cow. I don’t know why, but it does. Thanks for showing this. My hubby wants to go hunting next fall so bad. I don’t care if he does, I just don’t want to see it. Bring it home processed in bags. Lol 😂
Love your videos, I have been hunting, dressing and butchering game since I was kid, (over 50 years) but I have picked up tips from every video of yours that I've seen. Just little things that make sense and make it easier. I appreciate you and your brothers professionalism in the presentation of the video's and the knowledge that you impart. Thanks very much. And no bad language, excellent.
People should understand this is something you have to do a few times before you become proficient......with that being said this is probably the best video i've seen on the process of field dressing
Wow! So clean, watched the video of you skinning this doe first, and it made me want to see you field dress. I'm impressed! Such clean and precise work. Your boys will be better at this then men who are years into it already.
It is good seeing men still doing the hunting and butchering all over the world. What is even better, showing your kids how to do it! Very good for you! Thanks for the video. However, from where i come, Saudi Arabia, we do it in very different way. We never open the stomach before we got the skin out. Also, we do not through away anything, everything to be eaten.
This is great. I was taught a different method it required breaking the pelvis which has also led to many punctured bladders. I think I'll definitely be giving this method a try this fall.
Honestly, you guys have such educational content and from a lifelong hunter, I've learned so much and thank you! My only question is what about the bladder? Any issues when yanking the stomach contents of it breaking or bursting? Thanks in advance, and once again, top notch content!
Fun fact, I found this channel after a guy hit a deer just outside my farm yesterday night and dumped the carcass on my property. After checking with county animal control, they confirmed that I can keep the carcass so I was on TH-cam searching up how to prepare a deer carcass. Over the last hour I've just finished gutting and skinning the deer, all thanks to your instructions. While I might have botched the skinning part somewhat due to lack of proper equipment and experience, and rigor mortis having set in, most of the deer carcass is still good, the stomach and intestines weren't ruptured, and I've got it looking pretty much as you have it. So thanks my man! I can go ahead and tick off the "Survival" proficiency in my RL character sheet XD

The world needs more dads like you. Hats off, sir! Subbed! Regards from Brazil.
I've never hunted before. For ethical reasons I will be learning from my older cousin. This is a good prep for what to expect. Valuable information here for sure.
After not hunting for 20+ years (DoD overseas, etc.), I’m off to a Michigan blind in the morning. I REALLY appreciate the much needed refresher. Good work!
I am a novice hunter, in 2020 I was on a 100 acres by myself, and harvested my first buck an 8-Pointer. I was such an amateur, that I left my crossbow in my truck, and took off looking for the Deer I just shot (no one was there to calm me down, and point me in the right direction). I took off looking for my dear 15 mins after I shot it, and I started calling friends just that I could have one of them tell me, "yeah you killed it, go get it." Everyone with the exception of a die hard told me I have to wait at least an hour. But, I knew it was a good shot, and I didn't want to search for it when it was dark, and all alone, so I went after it. I found my deer about 50 yards away, heart pounding, and stick in hand - I poked it in its eyes, and was about to climb the nearest tree just in case. But it was dead! Now I had to drag it out of the swamp. Got it out, but I never field dress a deer before? I have been looking at this technique over and over, and I used the exact method you showed, and my field dressing came out perfect. I was a little scared cutting around the anus with the knife, because I didn't know what I should be feeling with the knife blade as I went around in a circle. I later found out, that there is a tool for that. All in all, everything came out good. Clean double lung shot, clean field dressing, and I wanted to say thank you for your class on how to field dress a deer... And, many others for that matter. //Novice from the Wolverine.
He makes it look so easy. I feel confident I can do this, however; I'd love to have a couple of practice trial runs w/ someone who knows how to do it w/ me. I would love it if there was some sort of program where you could basically go to deer field dressing school.
@@TheBeardedButchers no he can't. we have city folk die here every winter that think they are gonna move to the wilderness. stay in your city, we don't want yeah here. really we don't.
Excellent job, while stationed in West Germany I had the privilege of hunting there for several wild game, especially the Roe deer. A much smaller deer and learned to keep the heart, liver and kidneys for myself, but the lungs and emptied stomach for the foresters dogs. They love it!!!
Amazing shot! Gave new meaning to deadly accurate. I also love that you use a bow. I would imagine hunting with a bow requires skills that guns don't. Thank you for such a wonderful instructional video. I'm sure the heart tasted great, too!
I should have watched this before I harvested my first deer..She looked like Freddy Kreuger tried to clean her lol.. I've gotten better, but not this good. Fantastic content sir.I hope you and the boys have lots of happy hunting in the years to come.
An excellent toutorial on this most important aspect of deer 🦌 hunting..I’ll be playing this while I’m gutting my deer 🦌..Once every twelve months is not enough. We have a tendency to forget. Thank you !!!
4 years later, but I have never seen a method of dressing that didn't involve breaking or sawing the pelvic bone in half. Of course, I had never thought to look for another way. That was always the most tedious part for me. My goodness, this looks so much easier.
I used this and your skinning techniques on a goat and it was clean. This was completely foreign to me and you are an excellent teacher! I nailed it on my first go. Wanna try it on a deer soon. Thank you!
When/If the shit hit`s the fan world wide. You`d be hard-pressed for valuable knowledge like this. This is utmost professional. And for you to display the actual heart shot is truly a sign of respect for the animal and a solid testament to you knowing what the **** you are doing. Thank you for sharing and enjoy all that lovely meat with your family Sir.
Excellent video. I just bought a 270 today so that I can take my first deer this year. I am a late starter (61 years old) but after watching your video a few times I think I can do it. Thanks
Impressive man...you made this look so easy. Not a hunter yet but am on a journey to learn. The ending was fantastic too...good father and mad respect👊
I know it’s easier to watch. I can’t wait to get my first deer, hopefully this year I will be able to harvest one. This was by far one of the easiest field dressing videos I’ve watched. Thank you
Been trying to learn the proper method of doing this and it was certainly the quickest. I watched MeatEater's method and he opened the entire cavity from the top of the ribcage down very meticulously then just scooped the insides out with no struggle. I think if you had the time, that would be ideal but if it were hot out or if you were in a hurry to get out of the area, this would be the best method. Thanks for sharing the proper way to do this!
Pretty slick and fast field technique. I like the way you removed the guts without opening the chest cavity. Might take some practice to find and cut the esophagus. You can take the rest of the deer home, guts already disposed of and finish him near a water hose.
That's badass. I need to keep watching these videos so i can be comfortable with doing this myself in the future when i take up hunting. I know this is the most humane way to take an animals life for food, and I'd like to try it one day, great video
Thank you for adding that it might be hard to watch for some. I'm just recently learning how to hunt and I know this is an important part of the process but I've never seen an animal be field dressed before. Your acknowledgment about that fact and showing that your kids are watching helped quickly get rid of that knee-jerk reaction of "idk if I can do this". Thanks for the vid!
Best part is demonstrating to your young hunters in training. Nothing like seeing their dad provide an excellent lesson in self-reliance and self-sufficiency.
Always a pleasure! Check out our hunting blogs here for more content: beardedbutchers.com/blogs/news/the-best-portable-tree-stand-options?_pos=3&_sid=959f92f4a&_ss=r 😀
Been doing this for years, but have always worried most about the urinary tract as well. It doesn't appear that you are too concerned with urine leaking out from the male/female parts that would sour the meat. Can you fill me in on what I'm missing? I live in Texas where we can remove the genitalia from the deer when field dressing (because a deer with antlers always associates with the "standard" HE/HIM/HIS pronouns), so the approach is a bit different but would like to understand how your method doesn't contaminate the meat with urine.
This is a great video for EVERYBODY to watch- we are the same guts/meat/body system as this deer. So you can imagine what kind of damage smoking, vaping, sugar, processed foods, booze or drugs do/does, even if it's disguised by labels, brands, parties, or movies.... when the butcher/surgeon opens us all up, it's all just as simple, we're not special. Our bodies are just as sensitive to damage and care, we just assume we are special because we don't see people-guts everyday like a surgeon might. So take care of those bodies, they're the only ones we have. ❤️
You all are awesome and I am so blessed to have your knowledge! Me and my brother didn't have anyone in our life to teach us how to harvest our animals. So you all are a huge help!!!

Nathan Meekhof: Except that you still need to get rid of the entrails and if you don’t bury them a hundred feet deep every coyote and raccoon in town is going to dig them up and spread them all over the neighborhood.
does he just leave the rest of the organs? can you harvest some of them, the heart sure, but liver, lungs even the stomach are edible once clean.
Stoyan B. Taste like shit tho
@@tommykirk3403: Of you could make them into haggis! Well...ok...never mind, just burn them, lol.
1) I thank you for showing how it's done.
2) I thank you for showing your children and teaching them to teach others.
A hunter should never have to say "this may be hard for some of you to watch" especially when the title of the video is "how to field dress a deer". Never apologize for showing how to butcher your own animal, people have done so for far more of human history than those who don't!!!
What about a girl watching this
@@philoburtojuanes7814 a girl that sensitive to those topic shouldn't be here in the first place brother.
@Ken Macdonlad I’m a he dumbo
@@philoburtojuanes7814 lmao you're just trolling

You ought to try it some time! Get pounds and pounds of free range organic meat if you are successful.
He’s making it look easy. It takes practice. Me and my friend wrestled with a deer for about 3 hours today to do everything. We got it done but it was a mess. You can tell we’re amateurs haha!
Hardcore. Nice to see a family guy with his cubs.
The ABSOLUTE BEST part this video was that you were teaching your boys young and teaching your boys RIGHT!!!! Also the time spent together is PRICELESS.
He's teaching you something that everyone else needs to know seriously!! Cause you don't know when you might need to use this skill!!
Danny Floyd: Do you know that’s the second most absurd statement I’ve heard in the past many decades. The MOST absurd was that every individual needs a personal nuclear fallout shelter.
Very well done. The fact that you recognise what it is to harvest, tells us you have a proper sense of sustainability.
It’s fascinating how each component and piece of meat comes together to make a conscious animal that can move and walk. Great video!
You sir are the epitome of what a man and a father should be. Subbed!
Thank-you!
Lot of older comments saying theyre not hunters; i am, thank YOU for doing this. Very amazing video i was able to download for when i go out this year!
Appreciate this!
This is the best field dressing video I've seen.
Look up the gutless method. Interesting technique

I dont hunt, but feild dressing videos are a nice casual watch for me. This is the cleanest I've seen! Clean shot, clean dress, little issue with the fur, and no need to hike it up on a truck or anything, and no stomach muck getting into the cavity to clean later! Good job!
Now that is a man who knows how to honor the animal.
I watch this video just before every deer season as a refresher. Excellent easy instructions with excellent camera work, well done
Hard to watch??? I watched it while sipping on my coffee!
For real. A good field dressing is actually quite clean.

I think it's hard to watch cuz I have a fear of blood

Im watching while taking a dump
Thank you sir I ended up going and got a nice 7 point buck I would like to thank you for giving me the knowledge I needed
Excellent!
Thank-you!
First video I ever watched to learn how to clean a deer. Reading the comments I can see I’m lucky to see a seriously clean way to do this. Thanks.
Thanks 👍
People should understand this is something you have to do a few times before you become proficient......with that being said this is probably the best video i've seen on the process of field dressing
@Ed B. Your comment literally gave me cancer as it made zero sense and was completely pointless..

Good for you for getting out there. Everyone starts somewhere. No doubt you'll do great
He makes it look so easy. I feel confident I can do this, however; I'd love to have a couple of practice trial runs w/ someone who knows how to do it w/ me. I would love it if there was some sort of program where you could basically go to deer field dressing school.
Learned a lot man! I’m 42 years old now and I’m thinking about moving into the wilderness and this video gave me A LOT of information. Thank you 👍🏼

Excellent job, while stationed in West Germany I had the privilege of hunting there for several wild game, especially the Roe deer. A much smaller deer and learned to keep the heart, liver and kidneys for myself, but the lungs and emptied stomach for the foresters dogs. They love it!!!
I never grew up around any of this, I honestly find it fascinating.
It's these moments that we treasure dearly 🙏
Amazing shot! Gave new meaning to deadly accurate. I also love that you use a bow. I would imagine hunting with a bow requires skills that guns don't. Thank you for such a wonderful instructional video. I'm sure the heart tasted great, too!

Dwagon Gameing” No one’s heard from you for a month! Did you make it back ok?
4 years later, but I have never seen a method of dressing that didn't involve breaking or sawing the pelvic bone in half. Of course, I had never thought to look for another way. That was always the most tedious part for me. My goodness, this looks so much easier.
I used this and your skinning techniques on a goat and it was clean. This was completely foreign to me and you are an excellent teacher! I nailed it on my first go. Wanna try it on a deer soon. Thank you!

They are lying. We eat everything. They are cooked first traditionally after slaughter. A norm in Mzanzi.
@@lukelenap5121 it's good to know they can safely be eaten. At least nothing goes to waste of the animal
How do you prepare and grill the heart? I've never eaten one and haven't really thought about it but would maybe like to try it.
Wash the heart and remove the fats and arteries, slice them up, season them, then grill 'em. 🔥
We wash it up, slice it, season it, dip it in flour and fry it and serve with mash potatoes
