Great razor comparison, it confirms my feelings about both razors: the KCG gives me reliably consistent good shaves, whereas I had trouble getting consistent shaves from the ASD2 which I owned for many years, as a result I sold off my ASD2 and kept the KCG. Have a great week Jim.

Cheers Uncle. The ASD2 is an expensive ornament really. I hope you got a good price for it. I've only kept mine for making videos. But I think it's about time I moved it on.

This was one of the most interesting razor comparisons I've seen. I presume that the ASD2 would shine with a Feather blade. If I had the money, I would definitely buy the Feather. It looks like a precision instrument. While I am sure I can get decent shaves from it with practise, it also looks so darn good in the den.

Thank you Warren. The ASD2 is certainly a quality piece of kit yes. I think Kai blades would suit the razor. They're a fraction wider than the average blade. I keep on meaning to give them a go

To be fair though one ( ASD2 ) is sold as a mild shave razor , which to me is stating a few more passes will be needed for thicker stubble or a few days growth ( but if you have to shave each day) growth or no growth then agressive is the last thing on my shave menu , mind you it would be nice to a mix of the two ....................... like the ASD2 at the King C Gillette price ! 🙂

The AS-D2 should have been loaded with a Feather blade. It makes a lot of difference. I only use Feather in mine. Other blades don't perform so well in it.

You should try a Kai blade. They are fractionally wider than the average blade. Much more efficient than the Feather blade.

Agreed, apparently ( according to a representative ) of the Feather Company at a razor/shaving convention the ASD2 razor was actually made for the sharp feather blades to give a mild shave and stop cuts and nics to the face. And some tend to the angle of a ASD2 wrong I'm informed.

Just found your channel and wanted to say thanks for the video. I recently added a KCG razor to my collection. I’ve only used it once and it seems fine enough for what it is. I do quite like the blades though. It’s only been about six months since I started wet shaving so my opinion doesn’t hold much weight however those blades seem to be the perfect balance between sharp and smooth for my face. It’s a shame they’re so expensive. At least I’m getting about five shaves per blade.

    • @JimWillShave
      @JimWillShave  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello Eric and welcome aboard. They are good blades yes. They very expensive indeed. The cheapest way to buy blades is on ebay. You can purchase blades for as little as £6 per one hundred blades. Astra Green are pretty much similar to the KCG blades.
There's no reason why that razor won't last you a lifetime, it's well made. Enjoy your weekend Eric.

At least to me, with pleasure to give my feedback with KCG, when I will receive it.
I already test Merkur 34 C with bic blade. Good but a lot of peaks of blood. Boucherie ^^
I feel almost all is gone, but at some place, it stays little hair... It's not fully BBC , I don't know if it's normal..

@abderrahmanecherchar1730 the 6S is stainless steel. The joints will never weaken. It's possible that the 6C may weaken though, as it's only made of sh1t metal and chrome plated.

    Hi Jim,
It struck me you did a lot more work with the AS-D2 on the first pass. I always have a pleasant shave with my AS-D2 if I just do 3 passes, 1 of each, but if I try and get smooth with it I end up getting sore as I have to overshave. I also find the only blade that really works in it is a Feather and even then it doesn't get me BBS. I did a comparison between my AS-D2 and Razorock BBS a while ago and the BBS was much better. I'm glad you are well mate. Take care,
    Dave.

      @@JimWillShave Hi again Jim,
I have just checked my shaving log which I use to keep track of which blades I have used in which razors, soaps etc. I couldn't possibly remember them all!! 😂😂. I have used a 2nd use Tiger platinum blade in my AS-D2 with preshave oil and A&E Monte Carlo. I had written " A lovely smooth slick shave but not really close". This seems to be the story every time I use my AS-D2, even with Feather blades. Because of my scarred skin I never get perfectly smooth like people with perfect skin would with any razor. But to get a shave that is really acceptable I have to overshave and end up with a sore and blotchy face. As you probably know that can be pretty painful!! My closest shave is probably with my Blackbird and it certainly feels the closest!! Joy sends hugs and best wishes to you. Take care mate and watch out for all those idiots on the roads.

Informative comparison shave. Once again it's not how much one spends on a safety razor. I can get a decent shave with my cheapest DE razor. Given that universal principle, I must regretfully note that the outcome of your investigation is flawed and logically impossible. The more expensive razor is always the better razor and therefore the ASD2 wins. Now that we have straightened that out, I have a few fine parcels of land in Florida for you and you alone, and I am willing just in this one instance and for a limited time only, to throw in some free alligators!
