The true strength of the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system, epitomized by the Panasonic GX9, lies in its exceptional size and portability without sacrificing image quality.
Designed for photographers who demand versatility and convenience, the GX9 offers a compact, lightweight body that's perfect for travel and street photography.
Despite its diminutive stature, this camera packs a powerful punch with a 20.3MP sensor, advanced image stabilization, and 4K video recording.
The GX9 and the MFT system as a whole prove that you don't need a bulky, heavy camera to capture stunning, professional-grade images. Whether you're a seasoned pro or an enthusiastic hobbyist, the Panasonic GX9 is your go-to for outstanding performance in a portable package.

Before starting with MFT I had a Nikon D90. My first MFT camera was the amazingly compact GX-80 and a few years later I bought the outstanding G9. Moving from the D90 to G9 was like “being at home”; the grip, the top LCD, the robustness and quality. The strength of sharing my lenses between both MFT cameras is what I really value. Long life to Micro Four Thirds!

I agree with you about the Pen-F and GX9. A few years ago, I tried both out for a week or so and ended up buying the GX9 because I discovered it was a better tool. My heart said Pen-F but my head won the day with the GX9. It really is the complete package.
I also agree with you about Panasonic Leica lenses - just something about them. I’ve owned numerous lenses over the years including most of the Olympus Pro lenses (which are excellent) but there is just something magical about Panasonic Leica glass. Colour, sharpness, contrast, 3D pop - no idea what to call it, but they are in a class of their own. I bought a 12mm f/1.4 because you were so enthusiastic - loved it so much I bought a 10-25 f/1.7. I know, I know, that lens does not fall within the MFT ethos - but the results are so wonderful I can put up with the size, weight and cost. So fabulous that after a day I spent money I did not have on the 25-50 f1/7. Amazing, simply amazing.
You are right - Panasonic Lumix with Panasonic Leica is magical and ‘off the scale’. I am happier with that combo than I ever have been with anything else.

FWIW, I recently acquired a GX85 for my wife to use in our travels. That camera is a very good street camera also when paired with the Leica 15mm f1.7. It is slightly smaller and has a smaller sensor but does a bang up job.

I have a Sony A55 -- 2011 or 2012. It takes decent photos and, with a couple of lenses I have equivalent to 28-450 mm range. However it is the kind of camera that everyone sees. I am an introvert and am very aware when people have spotted me photographing, even if they merely turn away slightly.
Several years ago it copped a gutful of cider while I was overseas and I grabbed a Nikon 1 to go through the rest of my travels. Many of the controls I was used to having on tap in the Sony had to be found deep in the menu system, but it fitted in a jacket pocket and, with an 80-300 equiv lens in the other pocket, turned out to be great for just about everything of a travel nature. Despite a 1" sensor, it even took workable night time street scenes.
But the lens packed up as was common with them.
Then I was going to Melbourne for a weekend and managed to pick up a new second hand lens for it. I even took some decent shots at a conference/seminar as proof I was there. It just wasn't a very noticeable camera. Sadly the lens lasted for about 3 weeks after I got back home.
However, it is really the size and kind of camera to suit my photography, but certainly lacking many modern features. So I have been looking at Micro 4/3 cameras, and see that the GX85 body is almost exactly the same size as the Nikon 1, though about 200g heavier.
Clearly it is possible to make an almost pocketable MFT camera that would suit street and travel photographers, yet which is capable enough to photograph the occasional moon photo or bonfire night or whatever else that might cause a pocket camera afficionado to struggle.
I vote for a new Lumix of around GX8/GX85 size and shape!

Never used the GX9 but that tiltable EVF would be awesome. That along with the flip up screen, instead of flip out makes this a pretty unique and fun cam for photos.

Mu43s really shine in street photography, with a deeper depth of field due to equivalence you get the same depth of field of f8 on a fullframe at f4 thus giving you a faster shutter speed and/or a lower ISO setting which is crucial for those spur of the moment scenes

I agree, the GX9 is still great. I used it this last weekend for a family event and got great results. But for me personally, 3 upgrades would be essential in any updated GX style camera: waterproofed body, mic port for external microphone and USB-C continuous charging. Anything else would just be nice to have, although I'd expect that all future MFT cameras from Panasonic will come with PDAF and the extra 5 MP bump. Although I have to say that I never had a problem with the old DFD system and 20MP was always plenty.

I hope thay lumix makes a m43 version of the s9 and for god sakes throw the viewfimder back on when they do. Again, really enjoy your channel

My first Camera was a Gx9 and loved it but was seduced by the Fuji x100. My bad, wasn’t a patch on the GX9 in my view. Sold it and bought another GX9 again and never regretted it. Awesome little camera.
Thanks for the channel love it keep up the good work.

Love your Micro Four Thirds content, and I wanted to mention to be careful about using a Speedbooster (especially the Viltrox Canon-mount version) as they killed two of my cameras….a GX85 (now has an electrical problem) and a G85 (sensor has a scratch after dropping it with the Speedbooster on, as the stabilized sensor hit the optic of the Speedbooster, which protrudes into lens opening more than OEM lenses)!

I cancelled my G9II and I will wait for prime day and cyber week. I love the GX9 and I finally get the 15mm today. I would love a GX9II but Ihave to say 90% when I want a decent small cam to go out or to take on vacation, I take the GX8 😂 It just fits my hand like a glove. If I want it a little bit smaller, I take the GX9 and the GM5. One more advantage of the GX8 is, that I can take the bigger Leica lenses without feeling uncomfortable. A great new combo for me is the S5IIX withe the Sigma I series. But no matter what I take, I love all this cams 😂

Absolutely agree with you about how good the GX9 camera is and I also love using it with the Pana Leica 15mm. The GX9 hits the spot for size, design and quality of output. I also use other MFT cameras (Oly OM-1, EM5 mkiii) as well as some full frame but i just enjoy the unobtrusive GX9

  • @alteregojmd9748

What is it with youtubers and outrageous statements for engagement? 😜 We DO need a GX9ii. PDAF and 4k video without extra crop are a must. And real-time LUTs, precapture and other extras the cherry on top that would get me back to Panasonic from the EM5iii (that I never loved as much as Lumixes) and the Sony a7c (that doesn't have the advantages of m43).
(Weather sealing also, to compete with the OM5 and others)

Grant, I'm so confused now after viewing this video. I have an upcoming trip to the US (including 5 days in NYC doing a lot of street photography) and for the past 9 months I have been vacillating between taking Canon R6 M2 (with 24-105mm version II) with a small MFT - the Oly OMD em5 miii or take just the G9 with the Oly. I had settled on the former as I figure it has cost me a bomb and I should use it (the Canon). I keep taking the Canon out and yes it takes beautiful, stunning pics, but as you say, it is so, so heavy (and in your face), and for me, I'm not 21 anymore. Now I'm thinking maybe just the 2 x mft and maybe that's probably overkill. I will be using the panny 15mm as a definite, but am thinking of taking the 25mm leica/panny as it's 1.4 for the night life shots. Just for the record, I used the oly 40-150mm ($90 used) on a recent trip and it's really awesome. I compared it to the panny 14-140 ) which was purchased used at around $500 and the Oly won, hands down. Anyways, maybe back to taking the 2 x MFT's....... maybeeee

For weather sealing (mostly rainy here) and the new af (like in the newer mft panasonics)…the plastic housing it self isn’t a problem for me personally.
