I use live comp for star trails and it works fantastic! I have taken photos that are over an hour to 2 hours long making a really dramatic effect.

Many thanks for taking the time to do this video. Great location, indeed. I still have my Olympus OM-1N and OM-3 from the 70s and I am a Panasonic G9 and GX80 user. The MFT format and advantages are simply great. Long life to Micro Four Thirds and more lens exchange between the companies!

I agree. I switched from Fujifilm to Olympus M43 and have no regrets. The image quality was slightly better but in exchange you get SO many cool computational features that other manufacturers don't care about. Plus the lenses are tiny - and cheap when buying used!

Ditched the two major brands, investing in a few OM-1 II's with 12-100 & 150-400 pro lenses. We use photography to promote tourism, so street photography, landscapes, wildlife, some astro, portraits, etc.

I'm with you. I jumped into Fuji with an X-H2 when I finally came back into photography a couple of months back, but now have an OM-1.2 sat alongside it desperately trying to dethrone it. I have to say, it's doing a sterling job. The main problem is, I think, is that people can't see past the MFT sensor. As it's small, they don't think it's up to the task, which, as we can see from @ChrisBaitson and other photographers, just isn't the case.

Great vid I have an Oly EM10 mark 2 and have not really understood Live comp until now. One question when I view the shot the info has the time of the pre- set ie 1.3, 1.6, 2, 2.5 etc. Seems a little strange to me, i know I have the total time from taking the shot. I like that you can see the image building on your screen and I can stop the shot at my leisure. Please make more of these tutorial type vids they are great.

Just don't use "fast" exposures below one seconds, unless for very short times. 1) they will drain the battery out 2) [apparently] they will cause the banding you see at 6:14. It is perfectly possible to shoot star trails with no banding whatever at reasonable speeds of 1/2 minute / one minute. Never seen any banding myself, shot dozens of live composite images day or night.

    • @ChrisBaitsonPhoto

Some very cool examples 😁I think that for those images the ND digital filter would be very useful (adds photos with the consequent expansion of the dynamic range and noise reduction). But I think it is present from the EM1 Mark III model (it is a mode that I constantly use on my OM1 MarkII)😅

Yes. I still wish that OM System would turn be smarter, and focus heavily to E-M10 and E-M5 size bodies.
The E-M1 that Olympus made in 2013 was perfect size. The additional grip was very comfortable (once you realize how to keep your pinky below) in multiple different angles, but it wasn't so pocketable like the E-M5 (2012 model) was. The E-M10 is jewery. Very nice with the EVF.
But my personal favorite is the E-M10 Mk2, that has the taller and well curled knobs. That is perfect sized tiny SLR body.
I have E-M1 II as my primary camera, but it is big, and the side swiving display is pure annoyance for every single time using that camera. Totally unsuitable for photography and videography. Who ever wants those, are stupid. As that hinge design is legacy from Canon when they couldn't make a 90's displays tilt by any other means.
OM System true jewel anymore is really the E-PL line. And even those are growing larger and larger. And they should really get back to down, like E-PM2 or GM1. That is where the normal camera body should be. And then keep E-M5 size body for professionals with all bells and whistless imaginable.

I have been using Olympus bodies since the original OMD. I did upgrade the OM systems last version. Frankly, I am very disappointed in OM systems all the things you mentioned while some have been improved. Our features that Olympus created there is nothing new. Nothing to get excited about if OM systems wants me to get the next version of the camera they have to get me excited about them again
Right now, I am planning on buying the Panasonic G9. It has far more advanced video features and I think they have caught up with OM systems and surpass them. I guess I will find out.
I have a good selection of Olympus lenses and my current body does everything I want I was very disappointed with their rebranded lens. That was double the price of the full amount version with only minimal changes. Olympus always made excellent glass. I don’t understand what this is outsourcing
