"8 inches of fresh snow and I've got a flintlock in my hands" as he says with a big smile.. I salute you Sir! You know what it is to live right.. Great video man!!
Thank you! That 12-15 seconds of video is one of if not my favorite clip in 10+ years of filming! It really just doesn’t get any better! Thanks for watching and good luck this season!
Thanks! It’s my absolute favorite season here in PA! I hunt public 95% of the time as well so I can understand that. With 10 inches of fresh snow on the road I knew if I could make it to the parking lot I would be the only one there!
Well that’s depressing hahaha 🤣 Leatherwood was the reason I started videoing my hunts though, they were one of the original hunting channels and still put out great content! Thanks again for watching!
One of my most memorable days afield without a doubt! The snow blowing off those hemlocks is something I’ll never forget! Thanks for watching and good luck this season!
Thanks man! Not gonna lie though, most of this footage is from my cell phone. I had the main camera out that day in the snow but after a few hours it was on the verge of being compromised. I filmed the bucks with my phone and was surprised how well the video came out!
@@Legendary_Pursuits I did the same thing in Potter county, filled with my cell phone... but the stupid phone format wouldn't upload to our computer and I tried messing with it and lost all the footage!
Dude, I had the same problem and I was ready to toss the computer out in the snow! If the clips were short they transferred no problem but anything over a minute and a half was a complete hassle. I finally got the last clip to go but the video lost all its good color in the transfer. I’m going to get a go pro before turkey season for the close shots and interviews. I was just going to use my phone for that but not if it’s this hard to work with in editing.
@@Legendary_Pursuits yea, I thought about a go pro, I just don't care for the lower quality footage, but I guess it's better than where I'm at after the season I had which is basically no footage! Ha I'd go with a head mount, I must say a few videos floating around, the head mount catches both ignition and muzzle fireballs and depending on the range, you see the deer too. And it's hands free!
I hear that, some footage is better than no footage. Would have been awesome to see some more of your hunts this year. I was looking at the GoPro 8, a little cheaper than the newest models but about the same function and quality. Some guys manage to capture some pretty sweet footage with them so I think it’s just about getting the right setup and how you use it. I’ll still try to get everything on my main camera but this flintlock season proved the worth of having a second angle/camera.
Sounded like my opening day of antlerless season. 5 bucks. A big 8 just 5 yards from me. Also had bucks on video (I'll post them soon) just wallowing around me at 5-10 yards. LOL Congrats on sticking it out. I ended up dropping the biggest doe of my life during Regular Season here in New York. Got good footage of the shot and her coming right at me then turning at the last moment to drop 50 yards behind me (saved me a 115 yards of the 500+ yards drag back to deer camp.
That’s awesome, sometimes the encounters we don’t end up filling a tag on are some of the most memorable! Congrats on your big doe and I’ll be looking forward to seeing the video of the bucks! Thanks for watching!
@@Legendary_Pursuits Amen to that brother. I was out there today with my Traditions Hawken Woodsman. Didn't see anything, but that's okay. If it was easy, it wouldn't "hunting". I'll just have to go out after this storm passes tomorrow and they'll be out there for sure. And thanks!
@@YankeeWoodcraft I have the same flintlock! It's been good to me but I'm planning on getting a custom one made in the next few years! And for sure, hope they are on their feet tomorrow! I didn't get out today but planning on it this weekend!
@@Legendary_Pursuits Yeah, I got this one to "learn" with, but I've been eyeing custom American made Hawkens too. It's raining most of the week anyway, the weekend'll be better.
We are definitely blessed with a variety of seasons and game to pursue! This flintlock season is my absolute favorite out of all of them though! Believe it or not a lot of Pennsylvania hunters complain that we don't have enough opportunities to hunt!
Thanks and I hear that! I usually try to hold off until early to mid-February but it’s tough to stay out of the woods! Good luck shed hunting and thanks for watching!
Funny to me cause all I do is save my buck tag for late season cause I never see legal bucks during rifle. Same this year filled 2 doe tags no buck. But I can tell you love flintlock and the frustration that comes with it. Ultimate game
Have you ever taken a buck with your flintlock? And yes, I love flintlock! It’s my favorite season by far! Going forward I’m going to hold out for a big buck in archery or save my buck tag for flintlock. 3 years in a row I’ve had legal bucks within 50 yards in flintlock and no buck tag.
It’s a .50 and it’s accurate but that also depends on time spent at the range and experience. I found this one almost a decade ago so I wouldn’t know where to find one other than to contact Traditions and ask.
Awesome hunt- I shot a huge 11 pt on the very last day in -4 with wind. Sat on that buck all day while he bedded down. Finally got him with an hour to go in the season. Love flintlock huntin as it just feels like a true fair chase with weather and open woods.
That’s awesome! Tough to stay on them that long and make the shot once they give you an opportunity! And I couldn’t agree more! Absolutely love flintlock season!

Thanks but I’m not going to lie to you, my clothes have been laying in my truck/house for 3 weeks…. I just play the wind as best I can and hope for the best. Earlier in the season I usually wash my clothes with scent control detergent and get dressed in the field. But this late season was just go for it and hope the wind doesn’t swirl!
Wow, what a hunt. What county are you hunting? I’m originally from Somerset County, Pa. I quit coming up to hunt when they went to the 6 point rule. Hard to tell the points in laurel covered Allegheny mountains.
Thanks! This hunt was in northwest PA, I mainly hunt public land so forgive me if I don’t go into more detail than that. I would encourage you to give hunting up north another try though. The bucks across the state are getting bigger and bigger and it’s not to tough to tell of they’re legal. Maybe hunt a different kind of habitat than laurel?

Incredible footage. Congratulations. What an incredible hunt.
Thank you! I just happened to be in the right place at the right time!
Congrats on a great hunt, best time to hunt the rut and late season
Thanks and I agree! Sometimes I’d almost take late season if I had to pick just one!
Congratulations! Brings back great memories for me.

Are you not required to wear orange? I thought all firearm seasons in PA required it, is flintlock the exception?
No orange required in the late flintlock season. If I’m hunting in an area with more hunters I’ll usually where an orange hat or vest just to be safe.
