    This customer took his vehicle to a large shopping complex and parked in the multi storey car park. Later when he returned to his vehicle he found this large dent on the front wing/fender. After doing his research online, he found me and I was able to fix this for him, saving him several hundred pounds as the only other alternative was to have this repaired in a bodyshop or go through his insurance.
    Watch how I break down the complete repair, from start to finish…

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, that's probably due to a large plastic bumper slowly moving across the panel with no sharp points on it. It does happen though and this dent did have some paint cracks on some of the edges but it didn't warrant a paint job though. Thanks for watching! 😉

    Whoa!!! That's amazing. I've never seen the edge crimp tool before and that was money. Plus heating the trim piece was brilliant. Love watching what you can do. You were talking about how you need a tower for that body line but you could also use a dent dial as a bridge puller and swap the attachments and use it for pushing too. I use mine as a hustle stick, bridge puller, fender tool, bed side tool... just an idea and it helps keep that pressure on the panel while you tap down.

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bobby, thanks for the tips, yes I didn't have anything with me on the day that would help make removing that bodyline dent easier, I'm now working on some homemade system that will make that easier in future. It's always great seeing other PDR tech's approach to removing difficult damage, some people get really creative with their homemade systems! The problem I have is that I have a small vehicle so I have to have a system that is small and compact as I am always running out of space! All the best, Jake 👍

    I do believe in PDR repair on some dents and being in the auto body trade I did use a PDR tech on an SUV I had with a 3 stage white paint job with the factory finish that made me go the PDR way on a door that had a golf ball size indent repaired, I was pleased with the results and it would have cost more for paint then I was charged for the whole job.I asked the PDR tech how he went about fixing the dent and he explained that he messages the dent out and taped any high areas down and says it isn’t always a 100% result but by pushing the dent out and tapping the highs down to mimic an orange peel effect to take your eye away from what was a dent that would have gone under the knife otherwise,It being a small dent it was a no brained to choose a PDR tech ,I completely understood the reason and his technique.This was before glue tabs and the new techniques that took the PDR trade to another level to be able to remove much larger dents ,even dents on body lines, but when I see PDR tech removing dents on a panel some body/paint techs would replace or repair and see how the PDR tech’s remove most of the dent,I still see the dented area having a large amount of highs and lows ,then by tapping these crowns down and ,or up and a wet sand and buff then it all looks new. I just find it amazing with the panels getting so much thinner and the way metals are shrinking and expanding while repairing it then see the results achieved ,it would seem the time and everything that one would need to do to repair a large dent so a customer would see it as a finished repair is beyond amazing. I guess that is what years of learning these new techniques and the advancement in tools making it possible for a PDR repairs of such a large area possible is almost unbelievable but amazing at the least.

      Thanks Percy, yes PDR tech's are taking on much larger challenges now than ever before and the collision glue systems are amazing and cut down a lot of time and clean up too. I used to have to sand and buff my PDR repairs in the beginning to hide some of the small imperfections but after so much repetition It's amazing how you can blend it back in perfectly with no sanding required! Thanks a lot for your comment 👍👍

    Amazing work my guy, over here in America I've inquired with several places around my home area of South central PA. Most guys won't come to my area, and the one's who do still say they'd fall back on standard body work, as they just aren't that good at doing pdr yet. I have about 4 little dents / bends / stretch area's to be worked out and ive gotten body work quotes of $6 to $800 strictly pdr from 1 guy and the other is almost $1200 estimate with body work and painting. Trouble is nobody is this good over here in my area with per so pricing is extremely high with little to no competition.

      Thanks Kevin, that's a real shame that there is no one close by, you can try someone called Christopher Ray from "Dentless Touch" I think he is over your side of the states, if he can't help he may be able to suggest another tech who can. 👍👍

    Hi Jake may I ask if you could give an idea of cost for a dent of this size? Also did you need to involve the insurance or direct to the customer?

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Caspar, there was no insurance involved in this repair, I always deal directly with the customer. I don't always discuss the price as there are many factors involved and it can get confusing, but it was well below the cost of the customers insurance excess and probably 1/4 of the cost to get this repaired and painted in a bodyshop. 👍

    This is wonderful! Quick, possibly silly question, to get the glue back off of the paint did you heat the panel up again? I’ve tried the glue pull method and I always end up spending 20 minutes with goo gone scraping hard glue pieces off the car. Thanks in advance.

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! most people have a preference of either fog or lines, I started off years ago using a fluorescent tube light which works almost as a type of fog light, so just stuck with it. I find the lines are hard to read on a dent that is very complex and the fog is a bit easier on the eyes, but that is just my opinion. The light I use is homemade, but there are lots of really good LED fog board suppliers out there. 👍👍

    Great informative video. I’ve picked up a dent in the rear arch of my S-Max, I took off the inner wheel trim to use push bars from inside the wheel arch and discovered the rear wheel arch appears to be double skinned. Just wondered what’s recommended for double skin wheel arches? Would Pull rods be best?

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Yes, most rear arches are double skinned apart from a few exceptions like some Citroens/Peugeots and BMW Z4 to name a few. You would either have to glue pull the damage out, providing the paint is factory original, otherwise you would have to remove internal trims or the rear light and use longer push rods and hope that there is sufficient access to get cleanly on the dent. Rear arches can be quite tricky to do, front wings generally are much easier due to the access, unless there is a washer bottle bolted underneath obstruction which can be the case sometimes. Good luck and thanks for watching 👍
