That’s because you were playing them on a crt which had matching resolution and colors. The new displays upscale everything that is not 1080 or 4k if you have a 4k tv
You could have also shown the "Enable Widescreen Patches" From the System menu, which makes the games run in 16:9 without stretching them. Of course, some games may have small bugs but in most of them looks spot on. Nice guide!
The only thing I'd say is missing from this tutorial is the importance of the F9 key with PCSX2. OpenGL can be an accurate renderer however you do get better performance using Dx11 (at least from my experience with a GTX 1080), and certain games react differently with render types. Dx11 gives the option for either software or hardware rendering, which reacts differently with each game. Certain games may have emulation glitches with hardware rendering and may require the game to be booted using software rendering first. The F9 key allows on-the-fly switching between hardware and software rendering without the need for restarting the game. Example, Burnout Revenge has a black skybox if you boot into the game and progress into gameplay using the hardware renderer; the only way I have found to fix it is to boot the game using software mode and get into the vehicle select screen, then hit F9 and get into gameplay which fixes the issue until the game is shut down.

For people who are new to this amazing emulator, use the Dev build like PRIME showed you and keep settings relatively stock. I figured out for most games this is most stable. I used a Ratchet & Clank 1 config from a video and the settings were a great baseline for other games. Also of course make small adjustments according to what spec your CPU and GPU are at.

Discovered this a while back, it's witchcraft =) As I had (and still have) an Original Xbox I've always been a bit snobby about PS2 graphics, so this has opened up the PS2 library for me. Some random tips from many hours of tinkering... - You can play original PS2 discs if you still have a DVD drive in your PC, but don't as you'll get a lot of gameplay stuttering, and you'll have to listen to your DVD drive going crazy. - Use the PCSX2 wiki to check game compatibility and what settings to use (massive time saver), also take note of different regions, sometimes NTSC or PAL versions run better or don't have glitches depending on the game, for example the PAL versions of The Getaway games are glitchy when the NTSC aren't, conversely the PAL version of Pro Evo 4 seems to run smoother than the NTSC variants (this is with 1.4). - I actually found Direct3D 11 hardware mode to offer the best performance on my system (6700k/GTX1070/16GB), I can run PS2 games with settings maxed out, I only switch to OpenGL if there's a show stopping bug but you get a performance hit and have to turn settings down. - alt+enter to switch between full screen/windowed mode, also set your desktop resolution in config > video > window settings > 'custom window size' to run in full screen windowed mode with a frame rate counter (handy when trying out different settings).
Great guide. I've been running the lowest setting like a dumbass while playing the games and I just changed everything to 1440p following your settings. It looks amazing now.
I run dub edition remix on my laptops external 1660ti and it runs like a charm at 4k! For the headlight bug, you put the Half-screen Fix to Force-Enabled. You find that in Advanced Settings & Hacks.
Cyberman It depends heavily on how well your CPUs STP performs, but maybe its been updated since you tried it but it works well for me. I dont have crazy specs so it should work for you.
Cyberman Use the Dev build and follow a 1080p Ratchet and Clank 1 guide by Jobens for settings. Then all you should have to adjust may be the internal resolution. It should run just fine.
Hey ETA, quick correction. AVX2 is the newer instruction set. There's no real difference between AVX2 and SSE 4.1 in hardware mode but AVX2 is faster in software mode. The dropdown justs sort alphabetically so that's why AVX2 is listed first.
Just want to add for people that has lines over the screen when you load a ps2 iso. go to config -> Video(gs) -> plugin settings -> advance settings and hacks.Upscale hack put a mark in align Sprite and round sprite set it to half.
Having set this up, this runs wonderfully using my flattened DVD9 image of Xenosaga Episode 1 Undub. Of course, there's not much you can do about the prerendered video, but the in game rendering is beautiful. I do have one small issue where there seems to be a slight pause when the game needs to load a new texture for something, but I can deal with that.
Try this with the GSdx plugin and the GSdx FX shader suite for various effects like various color gradings, HDR grading, some stylistic filters, FXAA, Lotte's CRT shader if you run between native and 3x and a couple other stuff. You can also set the resolution to twice your native resolution (unless you have a 4K display) for some nice SSAA

Also if there is a fix for a game that needs it, meaning setting up soemthign advanced in pcsx2 ull have it here also, with description what u have to do in order to avoid some errors bugs, glitches i dont know. Its there. Recommend it. I doubt ull get lost on that site, is really great. In conclusion, most of the games will run straight as they are, no need to change a thing, only the native resolution. But there are also some games that need attention so theyll work great. Sometimes ull lose an effect or two, so the game will play as intented, but its a small sacrifice in my opinion for the game look good and run even better. And the last category is th ereally screwed games, here u can get games that will tank ur system, that will freeze either in specific places, or at random (didnt encounter lots of those, thank god) And then there are those that wont run at all. Also not a big number. All u need to do if u are a beginner, is experiment a bit with agame, or on a specific game, learn whats for what, what it does etc. Ull get the hang of it in no time. Should have made one video myself, but i think ETA does the basic stuff great and makes for u the game run so all u have to do is follow his instruction. Later u mihgt check here. Try change it up. Im nothing profesional, but i tried settings a lots of them out on games and how they looks, some might work out of the box so to say, some need a little love, but essentially, something over 95% of the entirely gaming library for ps2 works, so u will hardly find any more popular title that struggles with pcsx2. 5:22 Why not stick with AVX2? That should be the fastest option, whilst SSE4 is ancient by comparison. (It's not even the newest one, they are the same version number, so the difference is in instruction set, which it picks automatically bc it detects support. You chose the semi-ancient version)
here is the info from pcsx2 wiki page SSE2 is Intel 2001 and SSE4 is Intel 2006 AVX2 is Intel Haswell series CPUs and newer, and AMD Excavator and Zen (Ryzen) but it also says ( The AVX versions only provide speed ups for the software renderer of GSdx)

Great stuff, I setup this ages ago and couldn't get it to look right so I left it as it is. After watching this, uninstalled the stable build and got the dev version and setup as per this video. Damn, ps2 games never looked so good! And my PC seems to have enough grunt for constant 60fps for USA and 50fps for PAL games.
I can't thank you enough for this video. I have about half a dozen old PS2 games just lying around that I never play and another 40 on the hard drive in my soft modded PS2 that I never play anymore because every HDMI converter upscales horrible on my TV. I bought Smackdown vs Raw 2006 because it was the last wrestling game I enjoyed but I could only find the PS2 version and it looked horrible. But with this, I was able to burn the ISO on my PC and play it in 4k and it was just as good as I remember it. I only wish that it was a complete tutorial of how to install the emulator, get the PS2 bios, and rip the ISOs of your game disc in one video. I had to watch 3 different videos to get it all working and I am completely new to the would of emulation. A simple link to all three tools would have been really helpful. It's not illegal to burn my own disc that I bought as long as I'm not reproducing it or sharing it for profit. It's the same as building a home server for Plex as long as I'm not sharing movies outside of my local home network I'm fine.
So funny to watch this. I remember about two years ago downloading the ps2 emulator and happily getting ready to have a HD nostalgia trip. I started by downloading Devil May Cry 3, one of the games that at the time I couldn't play better on PC. I played at full HD and thought it still looked bad, so I gave up and decided to let those games live on in my memories. Now I look at that Ratchet and Clank and it is amazing. What a bad choice I picked to start emulating lol

Further help with settings of a specific game, u can go here wiki.pcsx2.net/Main_Page - search for the game, click it, and u can get a glimpse what did ppl use, what setups, and what settings in pcsx2
so that they game run good.
And the last category is th ereally screwed games, here u can get games that will tank ur system, that will freeze either in specific places, or at random (didnt encounter lots of those, thank god)
And then there are those that wont run at all.
Good gaming
Just a note f9 runs it native, but on cpu for those who may have a slower cpu.

these 4k videos you've done lately are great !
Hey ETA, what mini PC would you be able to recommend for emulating PS2, PSP, GameCube, original Xbox, and Dreamcast games well?
ETA PRIME thanks for showing a easy step by step setup 👌
20 dislikes from people who just spend hours figuring this out themselves, then you show up with this tutorial.

Now my nostalgic moment is back! Thank you sir...
5:22 Why not stick with AVX2? That should be the fastest option, whilst SSE4 is ancient by comparison.
(It's not even the newest one, they are the same version number, so the difference is in instruction set, which it picks automatically bc it detects support. You chose the semi-ancient version)
yeah... i dont undertand too
here is the info from pcsx2 wiki page
SSE2 is Intel 2001 and SSE4 is Intel 2006
AVX2 is Intel Haswell series CPUs and newer, and AMD Excavator and Zen (Ryzen)
but it also says ( The AVX versions only provide speed ups for the software renderer of GSdx)
Omg it was about 2 years ago when I wanted to play urbz sims in the city, but couldn't find anything on it, how did I not come across this video, I wouldn't of have to wait so long to scratch the itch thank you 😀 😊
4:21 I didn't know you can do that TIL
Damn son you should watch some vids on windows shortcuts - it will blow your minr
Another great vid fella!! I really enjoy your videos my friend! 👍☺🙏
No need for HD remasters anymore, assuming your PC is an absolute powerhouse
@Kwizera Moses Unfortunately no, I have an actual PS2 so I don't need this sort of stuff. Check out PCSX2 forums, maybe they can help.
@Kill 09 Most likely, yes. Don't take my word for it though, I don't know much about pcsx2 since I play my ps2 games on an actual ps2, so I'm just guessing. I suggest you ask around on pcsx2 forums for more reliable information.
I was just thinking today that I hope you would put one of these videos out for PCSX2!! Kudos man love the videos!!

This is amazing! Thanks prime!! Your a king amongst men! This surprising fixed a bunch of rendering glitches I was having
This is a positive comment for the algorythm
Thank you ETA, i am glad to see this video
11:07 you use no blending accuracy when earlier in the video you claim to run it on Medium for all games. Having too much blending accuracy causes memory leaks but you fail to mention that fact.
I was about to buy a ps2 but saw some videos and thought hmm maybe I wanna play in 4k… then I found your video 🤩 thanks buddy ❤
I'm still confused on how to get bios or how to use them.
Just search on google ps2 bios
@@Rt_domingo never can find any though
@@AliHussain-me6dw You can download them from Cool Roms
just type in ps2 bios Cool Roms, and it should pop up
@@AliHussain-me6dw found 1 in literally 2 seconds
I ]really like ETA Prime's no nonsense straight to the point approach.
Why didn't you mention that there are patches that can make a lot of games run in widescreen mode?
Thanks man found a way to play my backed up games. So much easier then going through all those adapters.
The best way to play Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix
Are U asking a question? cause i really like an answer to that
Kabeer Sheikh no it was a statement
I'm am content with 1080p. It's silky smooth. 4K is a bonus. Thanks ETA!!
My FX 6300 cried so hard with this emulator I ended buying a ps2 slim with OPL and CRT sony Wega TV lol

Awesome. Tried this emulator years ago on my old PC. It didn't work out. Going to give it another try now with my newer PC.

What controller is compatible with pcsx2 amd medgui emulators yall any help appreciated
@@legalizeit1983 any xinput controller tbh, I use a ps3 controller and that works aswell
Not true. The emulator doesn't work by default settings which means on every single game you have to spend 1 hour for finding the best settings.Second thing a lot of games have lag and glitches or are not working at all.
@@DarkoPsyUnique It depends strongly on the specs... In my case most of the games (In terms of speed and overall working from start to finish) They worked almost perfectly, then i wanted to mess around with the settings xd
Finally The Best PCSX2 guide Video
pls help. where do i download the games? anyone who can send me a link to Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith (game) or Lord of the rings return of the king (game)?
CDRomance
Doing same step in the guide. Amazing!!! As usual thanks for sharing. I'll try the same setting on wrc 4 hope it work.
“...4K, as you can see right here”
Video’s max resolution is 1080p 60FPS...
It doesn't need to be in 4k for a tutorial.
Eric Glueckert Not my point; he should’ve ACTUALLY made the video’s Max resolution 4K and not 1080p, as he claims it is...
Good point, but it kinda shows how good it looks, even if just in 1080p
Great stuff, I setup this ages ago and couldn't get it to look right so I left it as it is. After watching this, uninstalled the stable build and got the dev version and setup as per this video. Damn, ps2 games never looked so good! And my PC seems to have enough grunt for constant 60fps for USA and 50fps for PAL games.
plus you can record games and post them online..
I have become a resolution snob since I got my first pc, everything has to be at least 1440p if not 4k
3440x1440 ultrawide.
Great timing. I have been wanting to play Gran Turismo in HD. Now I don't have an excuse.
Liked, commented, and subscribed because of this video, love it man great job
So easy to understand. Thank you sir
this helped me out so much. your videos are amazing bro. keep up the good work.

Very good guide !!!
Worked for me perfectly.
Thanks alot :)
Hey great video man super easy to follow and got me playing silent hill 2 in 4k thanks alot was jonesin hard
Sweet video. Please do more emulator tutorials! 🙏 Like dreamcast, saturn, ps3, wii (U), naomi or atomiswave
Thx a lot bro, now it's very smooth to play.
Thx man for this video help me a lot
