The casting for this film was spot on. It's rare to see a male lead so perfect for the role.
He was spectacular, its one of thos emovies Id neverheard of and have loved since i discovered it...up there with pride and prejudice, and Richard is unequalled in masculine looks, acting and voice, a fabulous actor .
I discovered the masterpiece of north & south just this year and it's the best period drama in my opinion just like Pride and prejudice!
And this man is sooooo beautiful ughh!!

at his body of work He pulls you in
whatever he does. He's is one of our great actors of our time.When he played Thorin
his spirit and essence made him him attractive.His voice is like chocolate when it melts

It's funny, watching it in 2013 and hearing him talk about North & South as "the role of a lifetime".
You migth not be aware of the fact that North and South is a classic Novel and yes, I also adored him as the King under the Mountain but Mr Thornton was his great breakthrou so Yes the role of a lifetime

Spectacular acting to this historic novel...marvelous acting. Him reading the novel to help him was wise as a reference. He looks great in any costume.
N&S is much better that pride and prejudice. The story is complex and adresses important issues of the time. Both of them portraited the roles very well and he's just a handsome devil. And his voice! No wonder he's put it to good use in audible books.
I was so glad to come across of this novel on you tube. Richard Armitage and Danielle Ashe- Danby did a superb job. I had to watched it three times. I was so into this novel.

He was brilliant in the Thornton roll. Also brilliant in The Hobbit!
He is great actor.
And I love all he movies.
I think there should be added parts of the love story.Hope these two make more movies together.They have such good repore together
Elizabeth Gaskill wrote North & South over a hundred and fifty years ago...she, quite rightly, didn't feel the need for a sequel...so unless some precocious writer gains permission from the Gaskill estate, (to do what the CREATOR didn't want to do)... highly unlikely, for the reasons stated, there couldn't possibly BE a, 'sequel' or, 'added parts'! Writers cannot just, 'ad bits on' to a piece of literature... they must have consent from the original creator or the, 'estate' of the person if they are deceased... it's to stop any, 'Tom, Dick or Harry' bastardising a much loved work, whether it's Shakespeare or Elizabeth Gaskill.
It's troubling that so many people seem to NEED everything, 'put into' their imagination...what happened to using our OWN imaginations to decide what happens to our favourite characters? When the creator of something doesn't feel the need to elaborate further, it's presumptuous of their readers to complain... it's akin to critising their judgement!
"The role of a lifetime", until Thorin came along. although I must say if I had to choose between North and South and The Hobbit, I think I'd choose North and South.

I loved this movie. I often ponder about the North and South both over in Europe and the United States. Recently I have been pulled to one area in Columbia, SC. Never knew of before. Upon getting out with further observation and walking the area, I noticed a historical marker. The area was used here in the South with slave labor . A Mill. Made cotton. I was actually pulled there again last night. Black Moon.
and he is so smiley! I wish he smiled more in his roles... maybe not- smoldering is a good look on him
costumes could have been better,,especially for Daniela..i fell in love with Richard armitage whom I didn't know before.

When I came upon North and South, I thought it was about the Civil War in the U S!!.
i dont know why but he is ...cute...??? hes all awkward and good looking...

Eu vi esse filme em 2019,e simplesmente adorei, principalmente o Richard e Daniella como casal,mas fiquei decepcionada, não vejo entrevista dela sobre o filme,sendo que é a personagem feminina principal!! Vocês que são ingleses,sabem por quê? Ninguém faz gol sozinho, precisa de alguém pra passar a bola. E eles tiveram uma química fabulosa! Nem foto dos dois juntos tem, só como personagens.. achei muito machista. Não sei, mas da a impressão que eles nunca mais se viram depois que entraram naquele trem...
É que a série é muito antiga, e a Daniela parece ser muito reservada, mas procure o restante dessa entrevista, os dois aparecem falando sobre suas experiências. O título da entrevista é "Affairs of the Heart".
