I have made this cake now twice. I used 1 1/2 cups unsweetened apple sauce, no raisins and 1 1/2 cups of Dots brand gumdrops. Fantastic both times!

One of my, now deceased, aunt’s stumbled upon an Orange Slice Cake recipe in the late 60’s & forsook her holiday fruit cake making in favor of the ease of the Orange Slice Cake. We all have loved it ever since & none of us miss the fruit cakes at all. Your Gumdrop Cake is pretty much the same idea & I can imagine it is scrumptious.

I’ve heard of the orange slice cake my husband’s grandmother makes it too!

My Mom would make gumdrop during the holidays. But she always used the spiced gumdrops instead of the usual fruit-flavored ones.
I was in Sprouts last week and they had a package of spiced gumdrops on the discount rack. So there is a gumdrop cake in my near future!

Looks fabulous and I bet the longer it sits the better flavor.

Gumdrops always equate Christmas to me 🥰🥰. I’ve never had a gumdrop cake!! I love it!! Sort of spice cake but with candy inside!! I’ve never made a cake recipe that called for mixing soda and water together! Hope you have a wonderful Holiday Kristi ❤️❤️

Mixing the soda and water together was new to me too. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

The ingredient list in the description is different than in the video for sugar, baking soda and a few other things.

I was wondering you mix the baking soda with hot water as apposed to just adding the soda to the dry ingredients?

I know that’s different but I was following the recipe exactly. Thanks for watching!
