The NUX unit is a quality wireless.I use it in small to medium venues in Dublin and i've never had an issue. The fact that it runs on 5.8Ghz lessens problems with interference.
The pedalboard mounting ability and the way it looks are what got my initial attention. That + the many reviews about its performance is what placed it on my soon to be purchase list.
Reminds me of that remarkable dude that played his electric guitar at Venice Beach on rollerblades in the 80’s. Now that I think about it I wonder what kind of system he used?
Professional mixing/mastering and live sound engineer here. I have 2 different "setups" I use when working live sound. 1 analog system and 1 digital. AS SOON as these launched (GLXD14R+) I bought a whole rack of them and replaced my old digital mics with them! They are FANTASTIC and have never given me any issues, even in the worst of environments. The dual-band tech is a game changer. Highly recommend! By the way, the USB is for firmware updates and for charging the battery inside the pack if you wanted to do that (The rackmount and tabletop receivers have a battery slot built in where you can charge the battery as well). 🙂
I have the one before this, honestly my only complaint ever was not having an input for a cable since it lives permanently on my live board but sometimes I just wanna use a cable at home. well they fixed that with this next gen one. Now I am going to trade my old system in and get this one. I have an extra battery and cables, so I hope it will all work with the new gen! great video on it! I use the previous gen for 3 years now with my helix and never had a single issue live outdoor and indoor. Shure really makes one of the best wirelesses for gigging musicians like myself. i play live shows almost every weekend but just need something that can live on the board with the helix and work every single time.
Best demo EVER! Btw, your neighbors are cool with the blaring amp outside?! Cause whispering totally pisses off my neighbors - I could never play with an amp outside like that, lol. Amazing vid!
Looks like a killer wireless system. I'd be interested to see how it compares to the Relay G50, which is Line 6's higher end pedal-sized wireless system. It's also made of metal, built like a tank, and the receiver uses removable batteries. However, I don't know how it compares in terms of frequency switching, cutting through interference, etc. I'd expect that the Shure is probably significantly better in that department, especially because it's newer tech, but the question is: just *how much* better? (Note: there's also a Relay G30, but it's not as capable or resilient as the G50.)
Ich fühl mich ertappt bei der Frage nach dem Sound, während ich auf dem Bett liege und das Video am Handy schaue 😂 Ich überlege die Rackversion zu kaufen, absolut cooles Video
i have it's predecessor. absolutely adored it until one day at a gig with any substantial movement it was cutting out. did that ever since and have had to relegate it to home use. met someone else at another show recently who experienced the same exact issue and boiled it down to the receiver cable & changing it apparently did the trick. the new unit looks to have neutrik-type connectors so hopefully it's more sturdy??? looks super sweet & would love to give the new one a try.
Henning, as a shure employee I want to thank you for agreeing with the name. LOL Aside from that? Love the channel, love your reviews, and love the honesty. The USB-C on the side of the pedal is for firmware updating and the on the pack its for charging and firmware updates as well.
I've been using it for 6 years onstage or so. 4 bands, 50+ gigs per year, from clubs to fest stages. All I can add is: the GLX16D had zero weak moments. It is a heavy industry tool, the sort of device that remains operational after an armageddon. Also it kicks the ass of any stage tuners I've ever had in 30 years but the Korg DTR rackmount tuner. I also use it for recording. I did an A/B test with cables, measuring parameters, latency, transparency and the like. Well, after the result I recorded the DI guitars for two or three albums with the GLD-16D. I still use cables but when I'm in the free movement mood - I just grab my Shure and start recording. It also has a benefit to completely remove grounding and electric power system noise issues. You know, most of studios are not designed like electrical laboratories with clean power. It had a signal stutter only twice: once we had a club under a radio transmitter antenna. The other one happened when there was some IT hub the next room. Both cases, I let the unit search for a clean signal spot. It solved the case in 10 seconds. What else... Aw, the transmitter USB rubber covering came off after 1 year but that's what gaffer tape was invented for. My rig is a doormat: th-cam.com/video/SefIev2wIds/w-d-xo.html
This isn't the same system. This is the new updated dual band GLXD. I used the old ones too and you are correct they were great but these just dropped a few months ago and the updates are FANTASTIC! I have a whole 10U rack on the new ones (and the old ones). Really worth the upgrade if you are considering.
@matt_nyc_audioengineer Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind. I thend to use these for a decade or so. I had two Shure wireless units, a T-series served for 6 years when a roadie lost it. An another T series became stolen after 12 years of use. Now I've been using my GLX-D for 6 years so supposedly it is around half of its service time until it becames lost or stolen. The next Shure is a no-brainer for me.
@@NecroPolo 🤣 I'm so sorry to hear that!!! I get it tho, things "get lost" all the time during gigs for me too. Ya, the form factor is identical between the old and new systems but the updates are killer. They now work on 2.4 and 5.8GHz. A bunch of other stuff too but that's the biggest difference. Finds and secures several backup channels so if there is a dropout or something it can automatically switch to a new channel on the fly. No disrutuption in the audio. These systems are so good for the money. I had a few QLXD and always preferred working with the GLXD more but I'm a professional sound engineer in and around NYC so unfortunately 2.4 did not work well in a lot of places. Now they are ROCK solid. Best of luck dude! 🤘🏻
@@matt_nyc_audioengineer Thanks mate, the same to you! I'm a sound guy myself, too, mixing and mastering dosens of albums during the years in EU. Also, a touring musician. No time to rest :D 5,8GHz option makes a lot of sense. As you say, in a city the 2.4GHz band is screamed full by all those wifi units. We had to get a Mikrotik Omnitik router for our Allen@Heath QU-SB that screams through all that mess and finds the remote tablet. Anything less powerful than the Omnitic was screamed off the 2.4GHz spot. So, for sure, my next step will be the GLX-D+, after my GLX-D miraculously disappears in around 2030 (based on statistics) :D
@@NecroPolo Ohhh very cool!! See I'm the opposite lol. My bread and butter is from mixing and mastering. I mix around 150 projects a year. Most are singles but a good handful of albums/ep's as well. Working on several albums at the moment actually but they always seem to come at the same time for some reason. Strange! Anyway, live sound is more of a side thing for me. My wife works in professional theater so I started noticed that a lot of the sound engineers doing the work weren't very good lol. When I saw the money that could be made I immediately made the investment. So a good majority of the work I get is live theater. Mostly musicals. I've heard that mixer can cause issues!! A local theater here just bought an A&H digital mixer that had very similar issues. They sold it, it was causing too many issues with the mics. They have you pay all that money for a great piece of kit just to have to pay more money to use that great piece of kit hahaha!!!! You would think they would think of these things when they were building the units. 🤦🏻♂
This is an awesome video. Loved it. I use an Xvive. It has been working for me really good. I would love this one, but man, it’s a bit pricey for me. Great vid!
Yes, I would like to know that as well! I’m considering buying this but I have a Fuzz Face first in line. Any input Henning? Love your videos, thanks!!!!!!
Lmao what a unique way to test a wireless, I have the rack mount version of the GLXD family the GLXD 4R. I have used it for several years and i can say without a doubt I have never had a problem with it. Of course I have yet to play it under a tank lol.. Great review Henning
I wanted to get the predecessor. Especially with the exchangeable, rechargeable battery. But it was to expensive for me and I got the Sennheiser pedal board set (which unfortunately has no exchangeable battery). I guess the Shure is better, but my wallet said "no". Btw the I connected the transmitter with the belt thing with a cable tie since it fell off otherwise all the time.
Pro equipment will always be the choice of pros! I use a wireless system I got from Thomann for about 69 euro at home and for small gigs. Works just fine. We play a lot of gigs outside, works MOSTLY fine! Has never failed but one place is notorious for a ton of wireless signals going on, its close to a police station AND fire station. Had a few cut outs so had to plug in, no big deal.
I had the NUX for a couple months and then in the middle of playing, the receiver unit started playing a repeating message in chinese EXTREMELY loud and hasn't stopped since. A friend of mine who speaks Chinese roughly translated to me that the message was saying to please connect to the transmitter side of the system. Both units were connected and working FINE, and then out of no where my amp just started screaming at me in a foreign language. The issue was never able to be fixed and NUX offered no help. I know this is most likely a pretty rare thing to happen but these little "simple" wireless systems have always made me nervous for live applications since this incident. I can't even imagine how ridiculous it would have been if this had happened during a gig. (although quite comical in a way)
I currently use the line 6 G50 and I'm sick of buying replacement battery covers and pin sockets and repairing it. However it works well with multiple guitars, I have multiple body packs set to channel one and then just turn on the guitar I'm using. Can you use multiple body packs with one reciever with the shure?

Compared to the previous version: higher latency, 5.8 Ghz has shorter range than old system, battery lasts less with 5.8 Ghz, conflicts with the legacy system. This is barely an improvement, and a step back re: increased latency.
