    Something I noticed when replaying Samus Returns is that the statues that give Samus her Aeion Abilities bare a striking resemblance to Raven Beak. That and they give Samus the Aeion abilities Raven Beak uses in his boss fight. Just some food for thought.

      The only exception is that Raven Beak uses Flash Shift instead of Phase Drift. However, this makes me think of something interesting. Perhaps Flash Shift and Phase Shift are actually the exact same thing, just with different perspectives. Samus Returns depicts Samus' perspective where everything else slows down, while Dread depicts an outside perspective where Samus speeds up.

    First, the drawing of the Chozo Soldier at 2:46 looks AWESOME!!!
    Second, the Chozo Archive showing Raven Beak destroying the first EMMI in Artaria could also take place after Samus fell unconscious in the beginning of the game. Her Metroid powers activated which caused Raven Beak to change his plans, damaging the EMMI and destroying the Central Unit so Samus would have a chance to fight back and get stronger in the long run.

    • @TheOrpheon

      First I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the artwork it’s just one piece of a greater whole that will be slowly be revealed with each video so I hope you look forward to it
      Second I do like the proposition you make and it was something I had input on when writing the script but the main reason we decided it happened earlier than the game is because perhaps thanks to this damaged Emmy is how raven beak was able to essentially view the data extraction we see an RK7 and learn about their functions. However of course the main issue this presents is what caused the central unit to be destroyed, some of us think it could’ve been Raven be trying to test out what happens to the robot once the computer is destroyed to see if they will still hunt down Samusr get damaged.
      Another detail that we noticed that make this one different from the others is the lack of a proper room you find it traversing the world normally without any of the Emmy doors so perhaps this one was a simple test that went wrong which may have caused in a disruption of the central unit as well
      Either way it’s not to disapprove your proposition more or less to clarify what the team who helped me with the feedback suggested and why we came to this conclusion

    I think archive 5 actually shows how Raven Beak rose up in the ranks of the Mawkin Tribe. If you look at the Chozo standing on the Corpius, his leg armor more closely resembles Raven Beak’s than that of the Chozo soldiers. This might be some kind of ritual that they use to choose a new leader.

    • @GarryDumblowski
      @GarryDumblowski ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's a really interesting idea, because it implied that as soon as Samus stepped on the planet she unknowingly went through that exact same ritual by killing a Corpius in Artaria. Obviously it wouldnt have been set up or anything but it acts as a bit of metanarrative storytelling.

    Something I wonder is, since the dread suit, at least to my understanding, is the power suit in the process of "healing" after the surgery in fusion, it makes me wonder if Samus will ever go back to her original power suit, or if it will change into something brand new from how much her genetic make up has changed

    11:17 this picture makes you think.
    You have Kraid, Ridley, Mother Brain and the Queen Metroid, all in such a gruesome aspect, kind of different from what we met them from the sprites in the games. Samus has fought ugly aliens that look taken from a nightmare hell. If the previous 4 games would be launched in precious detailed 3D like Dread, they would look absolutely terrifying.
    Then we have RB and I think, man, am I wrong to think that he could single handle each one of them?

    • @numbertaker2563
      @numbertaker2563 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I have no doubt Raven Beak could take on almost all of the previous antagonists. That is except for Mother Brain since it's uncertain just how powerful her hyper beam is. It may or may not affect Raven Beak. If he's immune to Mother Brain's hyper beam, then he wins easily in my opinion. If not, it might prove a little difficult or even deadly. Ridley and Kraid, even if they're (probably) sentient, don't have much at their disposal when up against Raven Beak. The Metroid Queen doesn't stand a chance. If you were to include the prime series, I feel Raven Beak could have some real competition.

    Concerning Kraid being captured by the Mawkin, there is some more fresco style art in Ferenia depicting the Maekin battling the Space Pirates.
    Since we see multiple clones of Kraid in Super Metroid and Zero Mission, my assumption is that the version in Dread is the original version, and that it's tied up to prevent capture by outsiders.
    That would make sense to me, since Dread's version of Kraid is much more savage than the other versions.

    • @syweb2
      @syweb2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Did Zero Mission have a Fake Kraid? I thought it was just in Metroid 1 and Super, and was removed in ZM.
      Plus, the Fakes in Super were retconned to be much smaller than the original.

    • @Cri_Jackal
      @Cri_Jackal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      There is absolutely no lore for Fake Kraid, and as of Zero Mission, he only canonically appears once in Super Metroid, the same game with Mocktroids in Maridia, incomplete Metroid clones, and Kraid along with Fake Kraid are below the rooms containing them, I assume Fake Kraid is just a failed clone of some kind.
      But the main Kraid, the one in NES/Zero Mission, Super, and Dread, is definitely the same one guy.
      Raven Beak would have had to cut off all outside communication on ZDR, as any X mimicking a Chozo could have sent out a distress signal to attract a ship to escape on, as such, Raven Beak would have no knowledge of anything happening beyond the planet, until Kraid arrives, presumably searching for weapons on what appears to be an abandoned Chozo world from the outside, just like Zebes. Kraid is the one who informs Raven Beak of the current state of things, the extinction of the Metroids, Samus's Metroid DNA, the chaos sewn by the Pirates and Federation, its the information he uses to create a plan to take over the galaxy and bring his own version of peace to it.
      As for the paintings in Ferenia, the Space Pirates likely attempted to invade ZDR some time in the past, before Samus was even born, those paintings would depict such a conflict.
      Perhaps, instead of destroying them entirely, the Mawkin directed them toward their enemies, the Thoha, promising them that they would be a far easier target to pillage.
      Which would lead to them stalking a Thoha ship that makes a strange stop at K-2L, and well, inciting the events that would start the entire series.

      The Space Pirates in the Metroid franchise are an intergalactic faction around the same level of power as the Federation (at least, until Samus wrecks their shit multiple times), as it's implied the conflict between Federation and Pirates has been going on for quite a while, even when Samus was still a child.
      They probably do regular pirates in space stuff, hence their name, but they also seem to have territory, and a governmental structure, even before Mother Brain took control.

    Is it possible that the "secret group" within the federation from Fusion and Other M might be involve with the EMMI? It is a bit weird that the exploration robots are use as a repsonse of the x parasite video with the ablity to capture something with some tweaking. It is as if the EMMI were meant to capture the x parasite similar to the SA-X plans in fusion.

      This was something we were debating when writing the video what the conclusion we came into is that thanks to Samus’ efforts in fusion and other M where are the Federation able to essentially find out the secret group and essentially take care of them.
      On the other hand the Emmys were designed to hunt down the X parasite because they were a threat to powerful to let exist and was this taken essentially bypass any issue that occurred in fusion where they had machines with biological components perhaps in a way thanks to Samus report. As for the DNA extracting abilities it’s probably another way that the Federation of found to essentially exterminate the parasites without having to use a metroid or even a simple as identifying if it’s a parasite and be able to terminate it with some other abilities which could be a result of the experiment conducted by the Federation has hinted in super and fusion. Either way if the secret group really the sign the Emmys then perhaps their objective would’ve been different and so would the story focus considering that they were sent in order to properly be able to safely fight the X persons which after almost nearly killing Samus and Fusion were deemed a risk even greater than the Metroids themselves and with these they would be able to fight the parasites if they appeared on another planet

      It's a possibility? The EMMI were designed and built by Exelion Star Corporation for the Federation to use, and it seems interesting that the EMMI are able to mimic Samus's abilities. I have a theory that Exelion may be a front for the rogue faction after being found out in Other M and having to lay low. Plus they might have been the same people who developed Samus's abilities as downloadable data in Fusion considering their EMMI tech.
      It would be interesting to see what plays out in Metroid's future and if there's anything about my theory that ends up coming true.

    Regarding the awakening DNA conversation, I think it's basically that Metroid were programmed by the Thoha to recognize Mawkin as their enemies. Thus, once the Metroid DNA within Samus came into contact with Raven Beak (aka the last survivor Mawkin), Samus started to transform akin to a metamorphosis like the Metroid would if they had encountered a Mawkin. And so, Raven Beak realized that if he spared her life, then he could clone a more powerful Samus instead, which is why he didn't kill Samus immediately in Dread but instead left to to live and continue to mutate further.
    Great video! I was wondering your theory about the "mother Brain central units" in Dread. Were they created pre X invasion? For what purpose? Or did Raven Beak create them only once the EMMI invaded and he reprogrammed them? Also, how did Raven Beak create the omega canons to destroy the EMMI? And how did Raven Beak get the hyper beam, lightning armor and beam burst abilities? He's such a mysterious villain.

      @samy29987 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My explanation as to why RB is using the aeion abilities from SR388 is the following: the Thoha on SR388 were working for RB or were his slaves for the sole purpose of extracting as much Aeion from living beings as possible to develop and enhance their weaponry/defenses. So, the deeper they digged to extract more and more aeion, the more dangerous the place got since that provoked the release of the X. The Thoha then had to solve the X problem by creating the metroids but in secret they made them see Mawkins as enemies so they would never be able to get their hands on them, as the Thoha probably knew how dangerous the Mawkin were. The weapons were developed through aeion and so the lightning amor, the beam burst, the scan pulse, the phase drift as well as the flash shift and the phantom cloak were born.
      Raven Beak just took all that research regarding Aeion on SR388 for himself and his tribe. That is my interpretation.

    I would like to note how Raven Beak defeated the broken EMMI.
    Raven Beak actually was not powerful enough to defeat it at first. He went past it, to the Central Unit. He then destroyed the Central Unit and took only some of its power. From this Central Unit is where he acquires his own version of the Omega Stream. He then uses the Omega Stream to get past the meltable barrier on the Central Unit's room's door (how he gets out without using the Omega Blaster to open the door? I have no idea).
    After this he attacks the first EMMI, melting its plating with his Omega Stream. Without the Omega Blaster, he does not defeat the EMMI, instead using his personal abilities to hack into it and the Central Unit.
    The main basis of this theory (despite what I have already mentioned) is that he actually uses the Omega Stream during the winged phase of his boss fight. You will notice when he uses his arm cannon to fire a stream of shots INSTEAD OF SAMUS RECEIVING DIRECT DAMAGE HER CLIMATE ALARM SOUNDS AS SHE IS BEING HEATED UP BY THE OMEGA STREAM. (Fan theories are welcome as to how he kept the Omega Stream after the EMMI was defeated)
    Thank you for your time.
    (Also apologies if Omega Stream is the wrong name)

    Great video! I had realized myself the context of each of the Chozo Archives. But I didn't stop to think about the chronological order in which they occured, so that was a very interesting point of the video for me.
    I hope they continue having alive Chozo in future games, now that Dread finally broke that barrier for the series. Raven Beak and Quiet Robe were such cool additions to the Metroid cast (Raven Beak for next Smash pls!). I would love to dive more into the Chozo beyond their past and ruins. Hell, we need Old Bird in the games! The fact that both him and Grey Voice sneakily appeared as an easter egg on that one flashback in Dread, made me want him to have a proper appearance even more.

    It almost looks like the Chozo without armor aren't Mawkin and are a completely different tribe, so it's possible the Mawkins attacked them or punished them (shown in 4), and them becoming defensive or proving they are helpful (shown in 5). In 5, the bird looks like he's shouting and it looks as if he killed the monster himself, since the Mawkins don't have blood on their spears.
    Maybe these Chozo were already here before the Mawkins came or smthn. Whether or not they are Mawkin, it's still unexplained and not in the game whatsoever, so it may be explained later but idk.

    Quiet Robe says ZDR descended into chaos following the X infestation, seemingly implying that they spread further across the planet instead of just being immediately sealed in Elun. This also makes sense as we see a few parts of the world damaged in the game and it gives Raven Beak a reason to stay out of the story long enough for Samus to exterminate the Metroids on SR388. Just one question: If the X spread further out of Elun, how the hell did Raven Beak manage to contain them? The best guess I have is that he used a technology similar to what makes the Power Bombs pull X towards their center after exploding. Maybe they'll add more to this story in the future and explain how he did it.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Archives show what seems to be that Elun was a barracks where the X made its reveal. It sent the planet into chaos because it was spreading and the damage is mostly seen in Elun/parts of Ferenia, implying they didnt get far. This can lead us to believe it was a ‘figure of speech’ and that RB later cut iff Elun from Ferenia when you look at the destruction found south-west of the map’s backgrounds

    I loved unlocking these things. I love the flavor it adds to the backstory of Dread. Just quick thoughts from me regarding them.
    Artaria: I love that Raven Beak just looks at E.M.M.I.01P looking unimpressed but intrigued by the defeated bot while holding its disconnected limb.
    Cataris: The amount of effort those Chozo Soldiers put into containing Kraid is astounding although I'd hate to be the one who fell of his arm to their lava death.
    Dairon: I found Quiet Robe working on Experiment No. Z-57 to be a little twisted but he must've only done it so that Raven Beak would spare him and I love its aggression it portrays towards its creator.
    Burenia: Using Drogyga for execution was very fitting but just the thought of seeing the event is rather unsettling especially with those innocent looking condemned Chozo.
    Ferenia: Seeing Raven Beak force Quiet Robe reprogram the E.M.M.I. from specimen collectors to metallic hunters made me hate Raven Beak and his tyrannical ways more than I did.
    Ghavoran: I love that it portrays a primal Chozo hunting a Corpius like creature in the jungle showing his difference to his fellow soldier brethren.
    Elun: Very unsettling that the X infected soldier just presented itself to Raven Beak and is more creepy seeing how he's rather unfazed by the gooey imposter.
    Hanubia: A mighty portrait that is a great indication of just how strong the Mawkin tribe is especially when being lead by the Elite Chozo Soldier.

    I almost wonder if Experiment Z57 was meant to be a new/upgraded type of metroid since we see it's ability to sap energy during its boss fight. There's a decent chance it was created after Raven Beak heard of the metroid's extinction as a backup plan

      To be fair I was considering the same thought for the long time but then a few members who help me with the details did point out that if the experiment wife intended to replace the Metroid‘s then Raven Beak would have probably just focused on making more of it since the planet seem to have enough means to produce the creature.
      If anything I would consider this to perhaps be another attempt to create the Metroid all together perhaps this way taking into account the evolutions so it could be controlled but maybe something went wrong and it’s why they discarded it altogether.

  • @RikoLime
    @RikoLime 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The big thing everyones forgetting was that the metroids were designed as a creature. They must have had some sort of open fluidity to them to be able to use the aeion and mutate (someone else explains this must be how metroids were able to mutate: since they absorbed energy, and aeion was energy, they had a sort of free reign to use this energy to adapt - which is ultimately the goal of any living being, to adapt and survive). It may also be the Thoha designed them with a modicum of change-ability to allow them to absorb multiple creatures energy. A sort of "openness to design".
    So this DNA from a Metroid has the catch-all fluidity. We can theorize they had some magic dna structure that simply made a creature work, despite its flaws. A working bridge. It may be this original function that was added to Samus to make her able to survive their planet, since we find she has Thoha DNA and Mawkin. Thoha for the intelligence and Mawkin for prowess, and this catchall function as a bridge to make it all work together without killing the creature (here: samus).
    So later when shes infected with the X, this natural metroid-like function is allowing her to fight it off enough for the metroid cure to be applied. Arrogant humans, they just did it, not knowing.
    Heres the fun thing to theorize. If the initial catchall function lets DNAs work together of sorts, then it may have worked with the X infection. This explains why Samus can absorb X, as we know some larger armored X are just multiples merged together. The metroid sucky sucky function only made this easier, and since we have Thoha DNA that created metroids and designed them to be controlled by Thoha, we now have an ability to control these dna within, and the strength of the Mawkin to have the power to control it.
    This catchall fluidity also explains how dark samus came into being (got the catchall function out of her and used it to merge some other dna and farm a creature with phazon), and Sa-x, using the catchall function to merge her suit with x (we can argue here her suit must be organic in base function because she can suck it into herself (lol) and it is literally controlled by her as if it were a part of her physically (hich it can be because of the catchall function)
    But moving forward in the timeline for future games, i think it may be interesting if they had her try to find Chozo. Maybe for help on herself? We know the chozo spread out and explored, and apparently, different planet sects were denoted by different tribes? Some with lingering space travel capability they held onto after settling, and some still in contact (Mawkin and Thoha).
    It could be a good way for them to introduce new planet's, lore, Chozo tribes, abilities and powers, creatures, and interactions with pirates and space faring humans.

  • @andymac4883
    @andymac4883 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's a question I have: how long before the series do the Chozo Memories in Samus Returns take place? Playing the game, I got a fairly strong feel of old history from them, not exactly ancient but as long as a century or so old. But my admittedly limited understanding of the timeline, along with Quiet Robe's explanation, implies that the creation of the Metroids and the sealing of SR-388 all happened a pretty short time before the events of the first game. Consider how Quiet Robe talks as if the X infestation on ZDR occurred just after the Mawkin returned from exterminating the SR-388 Thoha population, and how by the time it was contained Samus had already wiped out the Metroids on SR-388.
    And of course, there's the fact that Quiet Robe and Raven Beak are still alive, and that Raven Beak was apparently on good enough terms with the Zebes Thoha that he donated genetic material to Samus when she was younger.

    • @TheMissingLink2
      @TheMissingLink2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting theory of him being a bio weapon. Could be possible but unlikely.
      Kraid only has 2 appearances in continuity prior to dread. Metroid NES/ Zero Mission and Super Metroid.
      While Kraid does appear to be killed in Metroid 1/Zero Mission, so does everyone else. The only issue is, none of them are dead, just defeated. Mother Brain is rebuilt having memory of her first encounter with Samus. And both Ridley and Kraid are revived as well to full health. We know the space pirates have regeneration technology. And in games taking place between Metroid 1 and 3, we see Ridley is very much alive and recovering from his injuries from his battle with Samus. So why wouldn't the same be true for Kraid?
      And unlike Mother Brain and Ridley, Kraid does not die on screen in Super Metroid. He runs away. The Kraid in Dread is most definitely the Kraid from Super Metroid because of his reaction to seeing Samus and vice versa. They definitely KNOW each other. No clone would even know who she was let alone give af.
      Lastly, as another person point out, the fake Kraid in Super Metroid, is found in an area where mocktroids and other failed experiments are found, implying that instead of Kraid being an experiment himself, that the fake Kraids were the experiment.
      Mother Brains has no interesting in other creations, she cares about the Metroids and uses the space pirates to enforce her will. The pirates are the ines who are interested in experiments and pretty much do as they please as long as it doesn't violate orders from elite command.

    Credit to masked Nintendo bandit he has a theory about what might take place in the next game at the self destruct sequence the ships that were there that's hanubia everything around them was damaged but they were gone which means they couldn't have been destroyed and the only acts that could pilots chips or Raven beak which the obliterated the x parasite quiet robe sacrificed his self to help Samus as an x and what were the only things left that were x and could pilot ships the mawkin didn't kill all the x parasite invested warriors there were many more bodies in that room where we fight the first one and the fact that the ships are gone but nothing around them is damaged means that well they must have escaped

    Ngl, the separation in chozo races kinda makes me think of whether the space pirates in the prime games should be considered redesigns or different species of the same type of creature. The space pirates in zero mission and super Metroid are canonically different species from the ones in prime, considering they are explicitly called zebesians, whereas the Metroid prime ones aren’t, in fact, I’m pretty sure the prime ones are never given a specific name, so it could be possible.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Main reason I doubt it comes from Sakamoto’s interview saying that this is the end for these events and that he wants to take the series somewhere else, implying no more of this continuity.
      As for the ships in Hanunbia, if the Itorash crashing on the surface not only causes a self destruct but also severely damages Hanbuia, then it most likely took out the ships. Some X were hanging around in Chozo bodies for a long time for them not to make their escape before hand.
      At the same time you could say Raven Beak hid in Itorash to be safe from the X and possibly take down any other ships

    The X outbreak on ZDR couldn’t have been contained in the way you described it. The video transmission sent to the federation shows an X parasite on the surface of ZDR, which is impossible if the X never escaped Elun. Quiet Robe describes the entire planet falling into chaos, Raven Beak barely managed to contain them, we don’t know how, but it wasn’t the way you described.

      I'm guessing the robotic chozo warriors had something to do with it.
      The only problem is how would he recapture or destroy the X.
      I guess it's possible that he used his arm canon's Hyper Beam since we know it's the only weapon that could destroy them.

    • @countlazuli8753
      @countlazuli8753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could have still been Kraid. The Mawkin soldiers may have still been in service during the events of super metroid as Raven Beak only discovered the metroid's extinction at some point after Samus Returns, and super metroid takes place immediately after that game. So the first X outbreak on ZDR may have been nearing it's conclusion by the time kraid was transported to the Mawkin world. Those soldiers who captured the big green beast may have gotten infected some time shortly after or died.
      It is a big stretch but if this is indeed the true Kraid, this may be the only way it makes sense.
