      Hey, Samus only blew up four planets, two of which were basically evil Eldritch horrors. Ridley blew up one of the three space stations she went to, and the other one was being set to self destruct by the Federation when she backtracked to get a helmet.

    Its been said in both the comics and a couple of the games that the power suit can upgrade with non-chozo weapons too.

    • @SPFLDAngler
      @SPFLDAngler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Yeah exactly. Fusion explained it all. Her suit is able to take the appropriate data and raw material and turn that into upgrades. No matter what it is, a rocket launcher, beam upgrades, whatever.

    • @SPFLDAngler
      @SPFLDAngler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Because in that game, while they were trying to save her life. They studied her entire suit and systems and they were sending her the data they had acquired of her various systems to her through the data terminals she would stand in to get an upgrade, the terminal providing the materials needed for the suit to build the upgrade. Essentially just giving her suit back the systems it already had via the data they downloaded from it when they carved the suit off of her, but it wasn't exactly the chozo tech it was their version of it due to how their computers or whatever interpreted and wrote the data code it gathered.

    • @SPFLDAngler
      @SPFLDAngler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Lastly. Not only that, but at various points when they tried to send her the data and materials, a creature would get into the terminal and "absorb" them giving it a biological version of that ability. Most notably when the mole creature absorbed the morph ball data and was able to gain the ability to roll up into an armored "ball" and crash around. So not only is her suit able to harness raw material and data but it is apparent that some biological creatures are also able to somehow take that code of 0s and 1s with the material to gain a version of that intended upgrade as well. Which if living things can do it, a semi-biological robotic suit doing it is not at all farfetched.

      Actually I always thought that what we pick up are the components for missles and such. It's why we can increase the amount we find because she actively modulates her suite with what is available. So it's not that we she finds more bombs or has more space it's just that the suite makes the bombs and missles.

  • @rm2kking

    I always assumed that much like her ability to integrate Luminoth technology into her armor, and her ability to hack the Pirates' computers at will, the armor's technology is so advanced it is able to interface with virtually any other tech.

    • @LorenHelgeson
      @LorenHelgeson 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed. In Fusion, Samus references the BSD scientists as being unable to remove the "organic components" of her suit during her X infestation. To me, this reads as advanced Chozo tech that adapts to any other tech it finds, interfacing at a cellular level. Maybe reading into it too much, but I always got the idea of a living suit with an intelligence to adapt.

    • @lugiamastero13
      @lugiamastero13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe Metroid Prime 3 gives us the answer to how she gets into her own ship without a need for a key simply enough it gives access to whoever has Samus' DNA and that's why when she landed on Phaaze she could no longer access her ship if all she needed was a key then yeah that would of been odd lmao also I believe her power suit acts like a computer of sorts it stores upgrades as data files and when they get damaged or corrupted or in some cases outright stolen from her I can see why she would usually lose her abilities like she does, also as several people mention weapon upgrades are just construct code and adds capacity or possibly uses raw materials from the air and earth to make missiles and bombs same with her unlimited usage of beam energy and I saw somewhere that her energy tanks are the power suits own shielding capabilities once it runs out Samus is exposed to the harsh environment without protection

    This is one of my favourite things about fusion: it takes place on a federation made space station, so samus gets her stuff in that game by absorbing the parasites that stole the suit parts from her to begin with, as well as by downloading data from federation computers, that data being sent to her by the federation. It seamlessly merges or rather fuses the gameplay and story elements together.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I completely agree, one of the reasons I think Fusion feels so unique in the series

  • @StarForceKid194
    @StarForceKid194 6 ปีที่แล้ว +147

    The power suit is mostly module. Essentially transforming with whatever it can absorb to adapt to the situation with weapons and even other race weapons like the Luminoth tech in MP2. The power suit itself seem more alive then just being something a robot would use as armor. Enough so that it can be infected by the X and cured by another creatures cells to be vaccinated. The chozo were the ultimate warrior in the universe so I'm sure their armor speaks for itself if it could be fortified against many threats in the universe.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      The Power Suit as always been one of the greatest mysteries within the Metroid universe (even Pirates can't seem to crack it unlike Morph Ball and Beam Upgrades) and its true that the suit itself is connected to Samus in both mind and body. Its worth a thought that since the Chozo had secretly (to an extent) want Samus to become a warrior or their kin, they infused her with their DNA to be compatible with the Power Suit.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      As for Fusion, I always saw the X infection has it being able to penetrate the Varia Suit and infect Samus herself (and by extent the suit) and the vaccine was administered to Samus once out of her armor during the surgery, however the X had enough DNA to morph onto Samus and use the remaining of the suit to become SA-X (in a way tricking the suit into thinking its Samus)

    • @StarForceKid194
      @StarForceKid194 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I wonder how far you could theorize the Power suit made by the Chozo. They were impressive race to have the foresight to create such an amazing armor. It even analyses creature she never come into contact with very descriptive detail. Akin to Jarvis is to Iron man. Even able to self analyze itself when Samus absorbs the light of the Luminoth and mentions it functions aren't in any threat. Even fusing with the Phazon at the first go in the battle with the Omega pirate with no problems. Crazy how much it can adapt.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      SA-X on the B.S.L? Well I took that he is on the station because the parts of Samus's suit that were infected were sent there to be studied, and then the little X that survived was enough to replicate/grow to become the SA-X. Since the X can mimic their hosts perfectly, it was able to recreate Samus's DNA to maybe trick the Varia Suit into thinking it was the real one

    The manga is unneccessary to explain the items in Metroid 2.
    WITHIN Metroid 2 itself, you find the most extensive system of chozo ruins in the entire series. The manga actually badly undersold this by claiming that the chozo just popped in to SR388 to destroy the X. In the game itself, its pretty clear that there was an entire chozo civilization on that planet.

    Metroid Prime 2 and 3s Screw attack might have been an early prototype versions that was given as a gift by the Chozo to Elysians and Luminoths.
    While during Super Metroid, Samus was given the complete upgraded version of the Screw attack with it she could combine the space jump letting her using it like it was intended.

  • @TheKritken
    @TheKritken 7 ปีที่แล้ว +77

    My theory, why does samus never brings all her upgrades from the previous games? well maybe the fear of them getting stolen like on metroid prime 2 and fall on the wrong hands, also the risk of constant scanning, the space pirates from prime one were scanning samus and from that data they developed the power, plasma, wave, ice troopers, so I guess she only comes only with the most escencial stuff for the mission.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Interesting, I always took that the pirates used the weapons found in the Chozo Ruins to reverse-engineer Samus' equipment so that they can try to understand its abilities (like in the case of the Troopers) but you do have a valid point, maybe Samus is trying to keep all the Chozo tech in check to avoid it being used by the wrong people

    • @magnawaves
      @magnawaves 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Holy shit, you know what, I never even thought about it like that. That is a really good point. It makes it difficult for her being weakened at the start of each mission, but it keeps it out of the wrong hands, or giving them ideas. Damn, good observation.

    • @brianhove9945
      @brianhove9945 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      the problem with this theory is that the pirates had already reverse engineered Samus's beam technology in prime one and they are inferior to the original and in the other games they were not inferior and they didn't have enough time in between the games to successfully reverse engineer her technologies

      My head cannon for that is that parts of Samus's armor are biological in nature.-that's why the X was able to imitate it. And maybe, like a biological lifeform, it needs nutrients and exercise to stay in shape. So maybe after one of her main missions like in the games, she goes back to hunting regular bounties-goes back to fighting people way weaker than her, and being required to bring them in alive. Since she isn't slaughtering hundreds of animals, she's no longer absorbing the energy they drop, and since most common criminals don't require the use of most of her equipment, she doesn't bother using it...and eventually it just sort of goes away, until she goes on another big mission and finds power-ups.

  • @kidkruschev
    @kidkruschev 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think it's important to remember that (a) her suit is wildly adaptable to foreign tech (seen in a lot of games notably MP2 where foreign tech is added near the beginning) (b) a lot of these planets have also had a galactic federation presence, who are also technologically advanced and have had direct encounters with Chozo technology, a lot of which they studied (c) Space Pirates are always actively trying to recreate or find Chozo tech or Samus' abilities (d) the Luminoth were directly linked to the Chozo, and much/all of the items on Aether aside from what the Ing stole from Samus at the beginning, through lore, are made by the Luminoth and spread by the now deceased Luminoth's to aid whoever came to help

  • @judahatkins6069
    @judahatkins6069 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    In the case of missiles, I always wanted to believe that it's like if Samus was carrying around a 9mm pistol and keeps finding 9mm ammo, although increasing storage capacity for missiles is another question. But my take on missiles is that those types of missiles aren't exclusively Chozo, otherwise Samus wouldn't be able to refill missiles and super missiles from federation tech, she just happens to use a common "caliber" if you will of missiles that are easy to find.

  • @AkaiAzul
    @AkaiAzul 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I like to think the Chozo mastered the technology of the physical, biological, and spiritual, that Samus is given access to all of these. That all of these are intertwined. When she finds a Chozo ruin, she may find actual physical upgrade to her suit, the biological creature the upgrade was based on, and/or the spiritual insight or significance the upgrade was inspired from. As long as one of these three components exist, she can interface it into her suit's systems.
    Note: I merge data into the physical, but an argument can be made for data being separate, which if true, can also explain why she can download upgrades.
    As to why she never had all her upgrades all the time, I have two theories. One is her age: she had not spent enough time mastering her suit and can only maintain them for long. The other is her humanity is causing compatibility issues and cannot maintain them easily. We do know she can permanently integrate upgrades; after all, she acquired the long beam and never forgot it.

  • @5h470wk1t3
    @5h470wk1t3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another way to look at it was introduced in Dread. In that game her initial confrontation with [hyperlink blocked] caused her injured suit to "forget" it's power, like a form of minor amnesia. As she would travel across ZDR, she would "recover" the use of said powers at various chozo statues, perhaps drawing inspiration from them to do so, just represented as an "item" instead.

    Though she got to have to stop loosing all her gear. Samus has to have some kind of Chozo vault laying around. Makes more sense of her getting locked out of the vault or something similar instead of her just having butter fingers. Would be nice not having to collect the exact same model of the screw attack and other suit and weapon upgrades every single time.

    I think another point is her suit's adaptability. The fact that it can take things from machines (data booths / diffusion beam robots, forgot the name) and organic creatures (King worm gives the charge beam), its highly likely that her suit can easily register many things as upgrades and possibly even organize similar ones to act the same, hence the commodity of some abilities / weapons

    My understanding is: A long time ago, the Chozo scoured across the universe, seeking other intelligent/sentient life forms. Across their journeys, they encountered various races including the Bryyo, the Luminoths, and the Yllas. They shared their wisdom, their knowledge, and their technological prowess. In actuality, the "screw attack" is not a Chozo-made invention but rather a Luminoth invention shared between the Chozo. Similarly, the other (currently known and canon) races also shared their technologies among each other before leaving away on their galactic explorations. Like the Chozo, the Luminoth are also a very ancient race of sapient/technologically advanced beings. This is indicative by their lore, "Luminoths were made from the stars and had been searching for a home planet for a very long time..."

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me I always assumed the Screwattack to be of Chozo origin since according to the lore in Aether and Bryyo, the Chozo where the ones to discover both species (Reptilicus and Luminoth in this case) and gift them with their knowledge.
      In Ice Bryyo (Hall of Remembrance) you see, De'la, gifting the Reptilicus, N'ge, with the Screw attack, and in one of the lore for the Golden Age in Aether implied that the Chozo gifted the Luminoth something on their encounter, which I always took to be the power up since its the only one not protected by a 'Guardian' enemy unlike the rest of Samus's gear, since it was protected on the Sanctuary Fortress. The Ing probably didn't bother with it since they had already possessed the Quadraxis and its minions.
      This only leaves the Yilas being the ones who probably made the power up and then perhaps gifting the Chozo with it, but since we never see Yilas (or more of their story) I discarded that idea for the time being (personal opinion as always)

  • @genobreaker1054
    @genobreaker1054 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've also considered that the legacy of the Chozo and the tech they leave behind would likely be a magnet for beings like the Space Pirates and the Federation itself, trying to recreate this tech themselves. The fact that these organizations are constantly grave robbing Samus's adoptive race just means that her suit (designed to identify and interface with tech other beings might not recognize the value of) can easily upgrade with weapons left where the Chozo themselves might have felt they were useful, or where others moved them for analysis.

    In Star Trek Online, the Iconians, who were a the their power, a quarter million years ago, traveled the galaxy, and eventually went to Andromeda, left many traces of their technology behind.
    Also, the T'Kon empire did as well.
    And the Preservers, who were traveling the stars, more than a billion years prior, left their artifacts behind for others to find....and left a 3 billion year old genetic puzzle for intelligent folks to find.
    So, the Chozo leaving objects and technology on many worlds is not far off.

    About Prime 2.
    I think the luminoth actually got more from the Chozo than just the screw attack. Take a look at the new visors, the dark suit, light suit and beams for example.
    Perhaps the Luminoth somewhat simply combined their technology with the ones they got from the Chozo and used it for themselves. Thats probably also why they work for Samus and why she can translate their language and use portals.
    Its sound simple and it is.
    But it works.

      Well I merely based my theory on the scan logs for the super little that it mentions. My guess was that the Screwattack (the OG iconic item thats in the game and not altered if you may) help enlighten the Luminoth and help to use it as a basis for their other weaponry like the beams/visors/suits, since share the same ‘roots’ if you may, are also compatible with Samus and her armor

    Here's a theory. The Space Pirates seek out these planets knowing that the Chozo visited there, but have no way of accessing the powerful weapons. Nor do they have a way to get to the more hidden ones. So they lure Samus out, knowing that she'll definitely find a way to the weapons and that her suit will make them useful since it's compatible. So they wait until she finishes collecting them all and sick Ridley on her in an attempt to steal the tech and use it for themselves

    In Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Booby Trap", the Enterprise crew finds a Promelian battle ship. The Promellians, and their enemy, the Menthar, fought a war that resulted in their mutual extinction. In some of the novels, we learn that that Promellian technology helped influence Starfleet designs, primarily bridge set up design.
    So, maybe some of the non Chozo places, like the Galactic Federation, also were influenced and back engineered some ancient Chozo stuff, or the black ops/unacknowledged project groups, (like trek's sinister section 31) took Chozo technology to various locations to study and use (while telling the public, and possibly the government, that they have no such technology....or not even letting themselves be known to the government and the public).

    I think another aspect of this is that the Chozo were, at least at one point, the most widespread civilization in the known universe and civilizations that came to space later often made contact with the chozo. My guess is that many of the technologies made by other species are based on gifted or recovered chozo technology and that may be why so many things made by different species are able to be equipped onto the power suit. In Metroid Prime 1, you even find logs of space pirates attempting to imitate Samus's weapons and equipment.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a very believable theory as well, a lot of the lore as pointed as the Chozo being one of the greatest species in the universe, and some weaponry (as say Bryyo's Mogenar) could be indeed based of their technology.

    So, I just want to make sure this is making sense. With the whole fusion and X-parasite theory. So originally on a planet, like SR388 there are creatures, and they have adaptations, like in real life. So each creature or I guess boss has its own unique ability because of adaptations. And then the X takes control of the body or boss. And then Samus comes along and does what she does best. HAHA MISSILE GO BOOM BOOM! And kills the X and there for absorbing it. And then the adaptation, or ability! Like for example with that weird turtle thing in Metroid 2 that gives you the spring ball, the spring ball is essentially just an adaptation that creature had for natural survival! Right?

  • @wewyllenium
    @wewyllenium 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The power suit is self-repairing and self-arsenal producing that depending on the given situation, it adapts.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the Power Suit has some self-repairing/adaptive abilities but remember they are slightly limited. It is the first line of defense for Samus but it can only do so much by its own, hence the need to upgrade it with the Varia Suit or pick-up items (like Energy Tanks) to increase its user's survival rate.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, the biggest ability the Power Suit has in adaptation is being able to be compatible with all sorts of types of arsenal, like the Luminoth weaponry and the weapons she finds in the Alimbic Cluster from the other hunters

    @johnleonard9102 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Power Suit is biomechanical in nature, so I've always seen it that gaining new powers is like exercising to build strength and endurance.
    If you don't use your muscles, they lose strength and definition, so the suit loses abilities over time if Samus isn't actively using them, which explains why most games start with her having nothing. Most games take place about a year inbetween each other, so that's plenty of time for someone to lose muscle mass if they aren't constantly lifting and running.
    Between ZM and Prime, she spends a year hunting for the Space Pirates who escaped Zebes, so she's staying somewhat busy but not enough to retain all of her abilities from the end of Zero Mission. As for the explosion on Orpheon, I don't have a very good explanation for why she loses her abilites... yet. Call it a pinched nerve or a muscle spasm within the workings of her suit.
    P1-P2, she's still on edge from encountering Phazon on Tallon IV, so she still has some of her powers at the beginning of her mission on Aether. At the end of Prime 2, she gives almost all of her abilities to the Luminoth so that they will be prepared to protect themselves against any threats that may come in their future, plus most of the abilities belonged to them in the first place; that's why she starts off Prime 3 with almost nothing.
    By the end of Prime 3, she removes the PED from her Power Suit and then the whole Milky Way Galaxy is celebrating the end of the Phazon Crisis; she takes a well deserved break from work and her Power Suit loses all of her abilities as time goes on, leading her to have nothing at the start of Samus Returns. She knew that the Chozo had a civilization on SR388, so she knew she could find abilities as she pressed forward in her mission to exterminate the Metroids.
    After delivering the Baby to the Federation research lab, she stays there while the scientists are running their experiments on the Baby. Theoretically she's there for a few months before she decides to leave, which is why she has no abilites at the start of Super.
    In Other M, she has all of her abilities, but chooses not to use them... let's retcon that and say that the Mother Brain clone used an array of jammers to block out certain abilites; since the original Mother Brain created Samus' suit, it's not far fetched that a clone of her would have an understanding on how to interfere with her suit's functions. Other M needs to be remade and retconned like mad for me to consider it canon lol.
    In the start of Fusion we see her working with scientists on the surface of SR388, so she's been keeping herself busy and retains all her abilities leading up to her infection. The surgeons remove many portions of her suit which in turn removes her abilities. The SA-X isn't just an infected portion of her suit, it's an infected form of HER since her DNA is in the suit; another detail as to why the X had all of her abilites and knowledge. By then end of this game she had regained all of her abilites by absorbing various X parasites, even the ability to use her ice beam.
    With Dread we see that her suit has been regrowing its larger stature after the surgery hacked it down; about a year has passed so that's another year without any tought obstacles to keep her abilities sharp. She meets Raven Beak and knocks her unconcious. Given that Raven Beak is the origin of the Power Suit technology, he has the understanding of how hers works and strips away her powers without needing to cut apart the suit.
    So that's my headcanon. Her suit's abilities work like a series of muscles that need to be used in order to retain them.

    • @TheOrpheon
      @TheOrpheon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Side Note: The Chozo who as of now is responsible for a big role in the creation of the Power Suit is called, Dryn. You find statues and scans of him/her in Elysia which is the oldest Chozo civilization we see in the games, predating even the ones in Zebes, as the installation was used to find new planets for them to inhabit or explore (seen in game with the probes you can send to reveal item locations, which also include Tallon IV, Aether, Zebes) - not Raven Beak.

There are some explanations out there saying something about the Chozo having prophets that foresaw where Samus would travel and then hid these upgrades and expansions ahead of time in the areas she would need them in the future. But how could the Chozo have been able to hide these upgrades in the BSL Station or the Bottle Ship, areas that they would never have access to because they were built *after* they had disappeared?

    • @marzipancutter8144

      In Prime 2, Samus obtains her initial Missile powerup by opening a Federation cache and taking their weapon, and she can also use the magazine of the deceased Missile Trooper as a Missile Expansion.
      Here you can make the argument that both Pirate and Federation Tech is often developed by reverse engineering Samus' Power Suit to explain how all those Expansions lying around in their bases and planets are usable by Samus and be satisfied.
      However, I'd go even further by hypothesizing that any material that Samus stumbles upon, if it can serve as a ballistic weapon/high-yield explosive, the Suit will recognize it as a upgrade and implement it as missile/power bomb expansion.
