Wuwa made so much about characters expression to make the dialogue time more lively and then they add the Skip button to also please the non-story enjoyer too. Even if the game is not on top, i still have big respect for them
@@SShyuka I haven't played Wuwa yet, but it looks like a really promising game. HSR devs take note about us HSR players wanting to have a room of our own, maybe they'll consider adding a skip button? Learning from other games is not a bad thing at all❤
@@Zielle4951 Wuwa doesn't have deep lore like Hsr or GI, they're still pretty new to this but during Dialogue Scene, their character doesn't always standing 1 place, at least now they do a much better work compared with 1.0

14:10 at the start of hsr, they also did a lot of angle switches and included more expressions, but with the success of the game they just stopped doing it as much after a while- which is a real bummer since this actually got me so hooked after seeing those dead and vacant faces in genshin for too long

Still disappointed Duke Inferno got off screened… come on dude he was so cool. I wanted to see more of his gang as well, so many were hyped over the trailer for them all…and they didn’t even step a foot inside Penacony. They could’ve at least animated the fighting scene between Acheron and Duke Inferno instead of a PowerPoint slideshow :/
The gang isn´t dead (outside of duke inferno) and will be playable in the future. This was confirmed in a CN interview from the devs, but it will probably take some time for their release.
I kind of agree but i feel like it was intended to be like that... They are bunch of miserable maniacs who are and will never be noticed by their aeon no matter what they do.

But it's not the case for his sons and daughter who is spared by acheron and even one of them was already showed in the story.
I absolutely agree on Aventurine. Even more so when in next version, they literally have this man saved off-screen. Apparently Argenti saved him or some bs like, but this is something that happened completely off-screen and it's only ever mentioned in a random message that Aventurine sends to the player daily when you log in.
I think Argenti mentions it when he’s going to fight you in 2.2, but why is there so much offscreen. Like, they’re not worried about the length, so just let us see it.

Hoyo is too busy selling characters. Penacony had such a bloated roster that they had to kill off Duke Inferno and his gang. Then there was a post somewhere regarding Duke Inferno's members and apparently going forward, they will be irrelevant or something like that?!? Wtf was the point in making that dope ass trailer for them? Even then, the roster was STILL bloated and had to fast track 1 quarter of the roster with the Myraid Celestia trailers. Amphoreus having 12 new characters isnt going to make it great. Slash that roster down to 6 and then you can tell a proper story with its characters rather than selling characters and pumping out a trash story.
i think amphoreus is just a reference to flame chasers in hi3. it wouldn’t make sense to have 6 characters lmao. i know there are 13 flame chasers, but i’m sure there’s a reason why 1 is missing in hsr

It's literally bait on a hook for sometime in the future when they will randomly drop one of them in the small mini story patches after the main story parts (like the Fexiao-Huolay story) to get some people who quit to maybe log back into the game.
Throwing this out there because i havnt seen it said. Belobog was definitely a better told story but penacony i think "feels" better because the atmosphere was amazing i never felt more immersed then what was going on in penacony even outside of the cutscenes the amount of character you find just running around the streets was so fun to experience man it made me so excited for the future

Looking at HSR objectively, it's kinda mid at best. It's a shallow turn based game with next to zero skill expression that relies entirely on character roster and Relic luck to "get good". They also keep introducing new mechanics that ignore the core combat "rules" they set up just so that they can sell you new toys without actually putting any meaningful thought or nuance into the kit design. As a "gacha", yeah it might be pretty good, but as a "turn based RPG game" it's got basically nothing going for it.
so how is that any different from other turn based games like say epic7? Atleast there no bullshit with the dev doing crap like "creating a problem" by purposely creating overtuned pvp units and selling you a solution.
Nah I think you’re dragging it, for a turn based rpg it does really well at keeping it entertaining, even the guy in the video says the combat is amazing, the problem is how slow and bad its story telling is but if you don’t care about the story telling the game will appeal to you simply from the combat because it actually makes the turn based rpg entertaining with all the different characters and their play styles along with new mechanics like exo toughness and the new enemies like hoolay who will actually make you think on how to play
Alright I love HSR but if we want to be honest about the game issues I hate when devs are so lazy they twist the story to keep reusing the same damn asset Lets help Luka, oh no he have halucionations that magicaly make him see good old boss like Cocolia.. Bronya.. and what a coincidence Svarog was there too and end up being a contestant.. clearly not cause there is a Svarog boss.. Its the same shit as having Argenti in every damn competition just because he's one of the only character with a boss version, which was even made fun of in an ingame dialogue showing how they are aware of that... I am bored when its always the same boss and same decors reappearing constantly as if they didnt have the budget to modify any detail or use any of their existing models to make a boss.. at least to not re use the same one for the 1000th time

Tbh, my attention span with HSR has dropped significantly after we revisited the Chinese ship and the arc with slumbernanas. I realised I feel this way after I stopped spending money. This means that our interests in the game's story is tied to whether we spent on the game or not. Once we spent, we subconsciously value it more so we became more mentally & emotionally invested in the story and content. Once we stopped spending, you can finally evaluate the game without biasness of sunk cost. Same goes for every other gacha games in general. Try playing a non-gacha game like Metaphor ReFantazio and detox from gacha sunk cost. It's also turn based but you see how much better is that game's story compared to HSR.
For me that detox is Monster Hunter World. After experiencing Fatalis, it's hard to get the excitement from Gacha. People might say, "HSR is F2P". But still, a 30 pull in HSR is still more expensive than a discounted MHW:I
yh sometimes it feels like a punishment slogging through the story. a skip button would be greatly appreciated but I doubt they'd add it in, because then people would realise there's barely any gameplay.
Gacha story is just not that great, and its crazy to me how some players hype it so much. People see a well animated fight scene amidst all the senseless yapping and act like the whole story is amazing because of that. I tried all these Mihoyo gachas, read the dialogues, and I wasnt really impressed by any of them. Even Wuwa, which is my fav gacha right now, I admit the story is also nothing that amazing. All these gacha stories pale in comparison to actual RPGs. Gacha is a genre of games where the writing is not that important, their priority is to sell the characters, so its really no surprise when storytelling is an afterthought.
If you hadn't heard or tried NIKKE, I HIGHLY advise to check it out, the story is the best gacha story I've ever seen, the gacha system is very fair and free to play friendly. The game may look uninteresting, but trust me, you won't regret checking out NIKKE

Its so funny how , when penacony was airing everyone was shitting themselfes with how incredible it was , yet now suddenly everyone calls its mid , not that i am surprised since they day i did 2.2 story after it took me to days to sit through these 9 hours of this nonsense with no ending i didnt touch the game since , and seeing clips of 2.3 story which was supposed to be a big conclusion to this beloved by everyone story , turned out to be a set up for firefly and trailblazer handholding scene since her banner was airing , my will to play the game faltered even more
TBH, 2.2 is the point I already start losing interest. 2.0 is the introduction, 2.1 is building up Aventurine and Archeron, although not great, 2.2 has so many unsatifactory conclusion that make 2.0 and 2.1 bad in retrospect. Aventurine going to the other side of dreamscape no pay off, we didn't get to see in it and he just get out with nothing to show. Firefly's date, death and reveal as SAM, all for what? A second date then fly off right before the big boss. What a let down. Boothill vs Acheron, no fight, no Boothill hunting her down. Just a small talk and they're cool. Robin's murder mystery. She wasn't on screen for much before her death and the mystery get dropped almost immediately. Black Swan and Sparkle mind bending power didn't get much of a use at all.

It's worst when Firefly and Aventurine story literally had nothing to do with Penacony, so they had to forced Penacony world building to be v2.2, however: 1. No clarification on Dr.ratio using Aventurine to trick Sunday to gain his trust 2. the existence of the IPC was conveniently non-existent 3. how did Argenti randomly in Penacony and how did he magically saved Aventurine 4. How did "Sigonian stereotype" came to be when Sigonian lives in constant poverty and they're being sold to IPC as properties by their own people? 5. How did Dr.ratio not know about Aventurine's past when he's the head of the intelligence guild for the IPC? (answer: to bait cheap sympathy on Aventurine's character and to lowkey ship the two character together) 6. What was even the purpose of Sparkle in Penacony outside of putting us into the real dreamscape when she was built up by youtube trailers, and "hints" in her character story, that she will wreck havoc to everything but rather, she was a good guy helping NPC. The fact that her character was edgy but no balls ruined this character for me. 7. WHY DID PENACONY NOT EVEN WENT INTO ROBIN AND BUILDING HER UP AS A PLOT DEVICE to go up against Sunday? 8. How DID v2.2 aftermath not make Penacony shareholders lose their sht, 107k+ victims, hard enough to the point of them ruining the entire Penacony stock badly enough that IPC could've easily brought out their entire business? 9. Oti didn't done sht but somehow he's getting blamed for everything and the air of "competence" that was shown in v2.3, was just him.... To put it in an analogy, it's like Oti tried to negotiate with a butter knife to someone that has millions of military tanks. That whole negotiation thing was stupid. 10. Aventurine appearing inside of the dreamscape when he's light years away as a hologram, but don't you need the dreampool to enter the dreamscape? The writer breaking his own game logic. And why did he appear as a hologram inside of v2.3 dreamscape when he could literally turn into anything? 11. Boothill, march 7th, Himeko, Topaz, etc, had no story involvement, they're just there and forgotten. 12. Acheron, us, Sunday, and Blackswan were the only characters in the story. I don't even want to include Firefly or Aventurine here because Firefly just left us in the middle of Sunday fight (never fought the order, faceless corrupt family members, and Sunday), and Aventurine who brought us to "dead" Robin couldn't put 2 and 2 together that he needed to die by "death" and not Acheron to get to the watchmaker. 13. The "wake up" line when nobody did woke up, in fact, the aftermath of Sunday, the head of the family's betrayal did nothing to Penacony at all, or its market. 14. The Security for the 5* hotel was garbage, so conveniently bad that they let a bunch of people invite criminals to take part of an important festival (duke inferno, wanted by the IPC boothill, etc), or how they don't even do proper screening for every visitor when they're supposed to. But I do understand, this is so Firefly, Boothill, SW, etc, can roam around without affecting the cheesy HSR story filled with ab unch of plot convenience elements.

Aventurine just didn´t told him. He was established as someone who hide his fragile self and play a role to protect himself. Only Jade and Topaz know about it. Dr. ratio isn´t even the head of the Intelligentsia Guild..he´s just a member. 6. Sparkle is still not a good guy she just accepts every job if its fun or well paid. That´s why she´s even helping sunday to play the role of a fake robin as well, even tho she´s scheming Plan B to blow up the dreamscape in case the Trailblazer fail. Later she use the buttons for the fireworks instead and execute a metaphorical death for firefly. Sparkle mentioned in her profile that she loves to play a backround character or the bad guy. I do think her twist was pretty statisfiying because I didn´t expect her to work with silver wolf the whole time. It was also clarified that she knew about elios script, which explains why she know so much stuff since 2.0. Her task was to make firefly´s third death less painful and help the TB to chase after the truth of penacony. The knowledge of the "childs dream" dreamscape was an important location for 2.2 to find the watchmakers legacy and the death meme was basically the key to reach the true penacony. She also was important for aventurines story as well. I´m sure we see more of her in the future. 7. Fair. Robin was on the weaker side (due to the lack of screentime in previous patches) for me even tho I really enjoyed her story with sunday and the final act. 8. The family still try to hide the whole incident to the outside world. All of the victims were in a comatose state when they were "killed" by the death meme and woke up in the real penacony. Real death was not possible because of Ena´s protection. 9. Oti got blamed because he´s now the current head of penacony after sunday was arrested. So he has to face the full consequences. I Don´t agree that the negotiation was dumb because Aventurine´s involvement was the key to win the debate. He was basically in huge danger after acheron attacked him and the family promised that no one will die in a dream. Acheron is an emenator of nihility and the true enemy of the order, so she can even destory the layers of ena´s protection. The family failed and still try to cover the whole incident, which isn´t an easy task and Jade got the upper hand in this case. So your metaphor fits but it was already planned from Jade and aventurine to begin with. 10. All of them were already in a dreamscape since the beginning. misha´s existence in the hotel was already foreshadowing and your example probably as well. 11.Boothill was important to shoot tiernans bullet. This was also the reason why acheron introduced herself as an galaxy range. She tried to provoke an actual Galaxy ranger to take the bait and boothill answered to it. I agree that the writers could do more with him as the character, but the penacony arc was just his introduction. He will probably have more relevance when oswaldo schneider gets introduced, but it was already nice to see more of him in 2.6 already. The writers proofed that old characters (yanqing in 2.4-2.5) get focus and a continuation of their character arc in new patches. As for topaz and the rest..yeah they were just there. 12. Firefly´s arc was still well made and I´m sure we see her in the future as well (It was at least teased after she find new hope after Jade´s offer). Aventurine and Firefly, who both have a deep inner tendency to escape reality, accepted this feeling and ultimately rejected it. That's why I personally Love Firefly's Dialogue with sunday. In Theory the "sweet dream" could be the ideal "utopia" due to her illness and her wish to be recognized as firefly instead of Sam. However, her resolve was pretty strong during this Scene and she realized that people Just run away from themselfes and being trapped in this Delusion. I can understand that it was kinda unstatisfiying for you that she leaves tho, but her actions (to experience a second "death" to save everyone) were very important to escape ena´s dream. Another thing to note: It was already implied that Firely knew the Trailblazer already, which fits to kafka´s companion quest. The Tb was actually trained by kafka and even Blade remember about them. So i hope this will get explored further in the future. 14. Gallagher send the invitations to make people chase after the watchmaker legacy and uncover the truth of penacony before its too late. He made the invitations legit in the system of penacony´s database. This is pretty easy for him to pull of as an History Fictionologists.

The Penacony arc to me felt sort of like the newer Star Wars trilogy. As if a new directer had taken over for every patch and kept changing the direction of the story. 2.0 felt like it was going to be a detective arc with the whole 'everyone could be lying' bit and Sparkle's potential to disguise herself as anyone. This is the direction I personally wished they had gone in, because knowing that there could be little clues hinting that someone might be Sparkle made the dialogue much more interesting. But of course, they had to go and kill off the Sparkle hype by almost totally forgetting about her for the next 2 patches only to reveal in 2.3 that she WASN'T the evil agent of chaos we expected, but a goofy prankster instead. I don't hate the direction they took her character in, but as someone who was drawn into Star Rail because of Sparkle's trailers and had been eagerly anticipating her in the main story, it was...a bit of a letdown.
Penacony wasn’t THAT good. The plot was overly convoluted and not satisfying. “Everyone could be lying” yeah but… not really… only technically. The lying didn’t matter in the end and everyone became friends. Felt forced. Also, quite a few characters could’ve been completely taken out of the story and nothing would need to change. For example: Boothill. What was his relevancy on Penacony? HSR just pushed new characters who we had no time to get to know or care about at us for the sales. They’re Mihoyo so it’s expected, but it led to a really non-fleshed out story. Shame the minority’s going to be drowned out by the loud majority who say Penacony is peak and people who didn’t like it can’t read. Hoyoverse needs to hear the criticism if we don’t want a repeat of Penacony’s problems on Amphoreus. As someone who didn’t like Penacony’s plot, I can still admit there’s some parts I enjoyed. Like when it ended. XD In all serious, yeah, the first part wasn’t bad. I was interested in the whole mystery around Robin and Firefly’s death, but they overused the false deaths. Even with Jiaoqiu in later patches. I’ve only played HSR, so do characters who die not sell well or something? Also, I 100% believe the Annihilation Gang actually getting to Penacony would’ve made it a much better story. Sunday and Aventurine as antagonists were eh, but Duke Inferno could’ve been an actually irredeemable villain we’re allowed to hate. The hype around him only for him to be offscreened was annoying and didn’t have the shock value HSR was going for.
it felt like they had a clear plot developed and ready to go until someone suggested to make a complete overhaul last second, which is what I think actually happened witn Firefly/Sam plot. Remember Kafka's Myriad Celestia trailer? Sam said something like "you should stop playing with your food Kafka" but the way Firefly was presented I could never imagine her saying something like that

It's weird because I really liked Xianzhou a lot more than Penacony, so I completely get this. Like Penacony was good, but was it really that good? I read everything too, so it's not like I was skipping anything, I just didn't enjoy Penacony that much up until like the monkey plot. LOL.
I love HSR but for god’s sake that 2.6 Rappa quest was about to make me go mentally insane. It took 8 hours of so much ridiculous yapping, the actual monkeys and bananas were so insanely fucked up. I hope I never have to go through that again
If they made the effort of making dynamic conversations instead of stale standing around in a circle talking, much like they do in WuWa. The actual dialogue would be more engaging. They make way too much money to copy paste the dialogue delivery from Genshin Impact. Even ZZZ varies its delivery with use of dynamic comic panels, and lengthy cutscenes that show emotion. Yes ZZZ still has "standing still" delivery at times, but theres a better balance.

i’m actually experiencing this firsthand rn. i started an alt account over the summer and got through belobog and luofu story pretty easily, but i haven’t even started penacony’s story yet. it sounds draining just to enter and start spamming through dialogue i’ve already heard. it might be worth it to get to the new places with calyxes and get to amphoreus, but holy shit i can’t believe how much stuff is on penacony that i don’t want to experience again due to how much time it takes.
He has influence from Honkai impact’s storytelling. Being the writer of Himeko’s death and Elysium Everlasting(alongside stringing them with the previous era that was sprinkled in here and there) HSR director definitely had different plans for what HSR can be like, Hi3 has the shonen story theme where people do die sometimes here and there but HSR follows genshin’s logic of keeping them as alive as they can

People want to enjoy the story but why should people sit through 6 hours of still frames and lengthy dialogue when 9/10 times they already summarized what needs to be said 30 mins into a conversation. The problem is that if you’re going to not add a skip button then either make what’s being said something that’s actually worth consuming by adding new angles animations and shortening the dialogue so it’s not a 6 hour yap fest about shit that doesn’t matter.

Then they add a skip button in case players doesn't like it BUT ALSO give a summary of what happened around that time, they not just skip it, they sort it and send you to cutscene if available.
Hate to break it you all, but powercreep is making me realize how bad the game went atleast for me, since i lost 7 50/50 and could never build a proper team . I used to think hsr is peak but nah, its mid now. And story is the only reason that mid else i would place it below mid at average, A character reruns and they are already powercrept lmfao. Since beginning i have seen how bad the powercrept was and how it affected me the best, now the summon is on the way, i went from getting 3 stars in moc 12 to getting stuck at floor 11 , damn.

TO BE HONEST, I've been starting to get more and more frustrated by HSR... Penacony in retrospect was only alright imo, Belobog is still my favorite story arc. Also constant powercreep, break meta (I hate that playstyle), summon meta is coming and I also think that is gonna be miserable and the best support is my most hated character (Robin). ALSO THE RAPPA QUEST WAS THE BIGGEST FEVER DREAM I'VE EVER WITNESSED IN MY LIFE HOLY SHIT. I can't really put it into words really but all of this in combination, I'm just not enjoying the direction the game is going rn and I HOPE 3.0 will change that
Penacony was way, way, way too long, the story was all over the place at times, the "walk on walls" segment was cool the first time and a pain in the ass all the other times. I was actually one of the 12 people who liked Rappa, pulled for her, and then did the newest event story which was so fkn bad and childish it was actually unbelievable. If this is the writing we can "look forward to" in the new planet that might be it for me, lmao
Preservation has the most dried up unit roster to date and we only got 1 after reaching Penacony. It’s deadass just been 1 preservation unit per world and the space station is where you get March
I actually really liked penacony, but I also 100% agree with his opinions. I’m glad there’s people out there to talk about the game like this, so that maybe the devs listen and change it. The narrative experience in HSR deserves to be as fun and engaging as the rest of the game is.

12:30 ngl I can see that too but I think its because they probably needed to make aventurine likeable for his banner sales especially if he's the first phase of the 2.1 update. He needed a reason not to be skipped by Acheron so they probs just wanted people to sympathize with him and make him more appealable to a wider audience. Just imagine if people skipped aventurine because of his portrayal in the main story quest but then after playing his optional story quest (if he had one sperate from the main story) would instantly regret skipping him after his banner is already gone. His banner sale would have probably plummeted compared to Acheron and we would have had the best re-run banner yet. Shaoji was a mistake to add to HSR and you cannot tell me otherwise. His reputation is what carried the hype for Penacony, only for him to fumble everything and make the story worst. He is the singlehandedly the reason I want the skip button to exist.
Tbh i hated Penacony because it was so unnecessarily convoluted with so little actual combat. I preferred the idea of Belabog in the sense that the trailblazers reached an isolated planet and have to resolve it's issues to get to the stellaron. The laofu (pt2) was cool with expanding the universe by introducing the intergalactic political show of force. But penacony was trying to do like a 4-way covert power struggle with conflicting interests even within each of the factions. If i wanted something that convoluted i would get into IRL politics
You had me until you praised the China region story that is by far the worst story in the game I would say its worse than any Genshin story its that bad.
1. No clarification on Dr.ratio using Aventurine to trick Sunday to gain his trust and what that had led up to. 2. the existence of the IPC was conveniently non-existent 3. how did Argenti randomly in Penacony and how did he magically saved Aventurine 4. How did "Sigonian stereotype" came to be when Sigonian lives in constant poverty and they're being sold to IPC as properties by their own people? 5. How did Dr.ratio not know about Aventurine's past when he's the head of the intelligence guild for the IPC? (answer: to bait cheap sympathy on Aventurine's character and to lowkey ship the two character together) 6. What was even the purpose of Sparkle in Penacony outside of putting us into the real dreamscape when she was built up by youtube trailers, and "hints" in her character story, that she will wreck havoc to everything but rather, she was a good guy helping NPC. The fact that her character was edgy but no balls ruined this character for me. 7. WHY DID PENACONY NOT EVEN WENT INTO ROBIN AND BUILDING HER UP AS A PLOT DEVICE to go up against Sunday? 8. How DID v2.2 aftermath not make Penacony shareholders lose their sht, 107k+ victims, hard enough to the point of them ruining the entire Penacony stock badly enough that IPC could've easily brought out their entire business? 9. Oti didn't done sht but somehow he's getting blamed for everything and the air of "competence" that was shown in v2.3, was just him.... To put it in an analogy, it's like Oti tried to negotiate with a butter knife to someone that has millions of military tanks. That whole negotiation thing was stupid. 10. Aventurine appearing inside of the dreamscape when he's light years away as a hologram, but don't you need the dreampool to enter the dreamscape? The writer breaking his own game logic. And why did he appear as a hologram inside of v2.3 dreamscape when he could literally turn into anything? 11. Boothill, march 7th, Himeko, Topaz, etc, had no story involvement, they're just there and forgotten. 12. Acheron, us, Sunday, and Blackswan were the only characters in the story. I don't even want to include Firefly or Aventurine here because Firefly just left us in the middle of Sunday fight (never fought the order, faceless corrupt family members, and Sunday), and Aventurine who brought us to "dead" Robin couldn't put 2 and 2 together that he needed to die by "death" and not Acheron to get to the watchmaker. 13. The "wake up" line when nobody did woke up, in fact, the aftermath of Sunday, the head of the family's betrayal did nothing to Penacony at all, or its market. 14. The Security for the 5* hotel was garbage, so conveniently bad that they let a bunch of people invite criminals to take part of an important festival (duke inferno, wanted by the IPC boothill, etc), or how they don't even do proper screening for every visitor when they're supposed to. But I do understand, this is so Firefly, Boothill, SW, etc, can roam around without affecting the cheesy HSR story filled with ab unch of plot convenience elements. bro, lazy af writing which directly translated to v2.4-v2.6 where they're just reusing assets at this point
In my case, it all boils down to preference. That means whichever's dailies I can finish in less than 5 minutes and which account is more blessed by RNGesus. Just happened to be Star Rail.
Bro definitely has valid points I agree with. Once we got to Penacony, the story really started to drag on which got me frustrated. It was the first time it reminded me of Genshin levels of yapping in HSR. At least in HSR, they have interesting story bits and most importantly, I like how a lot of older characters make a return to the story, even if brief. Seeing them interact with other characters in different worlds and play a part in the new story is always nice. Gameplay is very fun, but I hope they start investing in more dynamic storytelling and longer cutscenes. Basically like ZZZ.
The story telling always bother me in HSR because the character barely move, March is suppose to be an expression character yet she stands still like a twig in the ground, I appreciate the smaller movement but it’s not enough, then you see Wuwa giving so many expression in their quest and a lot of unique interaction in each new main quest, Can HSR just please add a skip button just like in ZZZ a short summary of what happened, even Wuwa decided to add the short summary before you skip.

Tbh, I will completely agree that penacony story was a freaking snoozefest, the fact you can't skip it is crazy, I stopped playing in penacony even though I like the gameplay and endgame systems. The story was just a giant wall that I got bored hitting my head against. Every single character is speaking with riddles, trying to look smart but it ends up just being boring. Fights were ok, but I stopped after aventurine boss so dunno if there might be great ones later

The snoozefest for me was Luofu entirely, shit was boring af to me except the fake tingyun part and some of DHIL. Penacony is what really immersed me into the story, and the final fight was epic.

I gonna repeat myself but.. For some reason hsr players have an aura of elitism when it comes to Genshin players but both of those games share some of the same problems. Bloated dialogues, overexposition, fake deaths for a shock value (Firefly, aventurine etc.), underdeveloped characters, Acheron's nonsensical motivation just because she is emanator of Nihility making her more of a plot device then character (she did all of this in panacony to put flowers on the grave of the person she barely interacted with, she herself said that it was pointless) etc. But tbh the "underdeveloped characters" point is a problem with all gachas since they introduce too many characters to the point it's impossible to give them proper care and screentime. Because they focused on selling the characters not giving them proper development. The only gacha that doesn't have that problem is PGR and I hope Kuro follow the steps of pgr in wuwa. For now Wuwa did a decent job at focusing on playable characters instead of npcs and they are not releasing that many characters. There always will be unimportant/underdeveloped characters in any stories but it feels like it's true for majority characters in Gachas. For example Stanley from PGR (chapter 17 character) is just an npc and he's better written than most of the other gachas characters.

I've been saying that for a whole year. I wanted to add, they explain made-up word with another made-up word, like fking, all the time. What was the writer thinking? If you also look back at v2.4-v2.6, they SAID IT HAPPENED BEFORE v2.0-v2.3 (Penacony), but how the fk did we get Boothill in v2.5 and him pointing out that we met in v2.0-v2.3? Also, the amount of reuse assets in the wardance. AND HOW THE WARDANCE WASN'T EVEN ABOUT LUOFU ANYMORE, IT PROMOTED Luka MORE SO THAN LUOFU. Even with that in mind, it makes no sense that we're being treated like a VIP when we only own 5% of Penacony's shares when you need to have at least 20%-50% for that kind of treatment, or in a side quest where we became a receptionist for a day. Or the childish and lame-ness of both the back story and the voice lines. This writer is literally a fking kid, mentally, who wants to get taken seriously.
Also, the whole blackswan and Acheron pretending that Firefly had died, knowing very well that "DEATH" can't happen at all inside of the dreamscape. In fact, Acheron mourning for "her death" was actually her mourning for a random friend through a fake death scene in the game. That fake death then get a music to play it off like it's real. Or the watchmaker's legacy, the whole legwork yap talk, gave us a power completely unrelated to the watchmaker completely, in fact, we got a random fking hat lmao. The whole Penacony story was a fking joke with plot holes, plot contradictions, and plot conveniences. And btw Firefly only appear in Penacony to fake die because she fought nobody. Aventurine who knew where robin went, what killed her, but decided to get cut by acheron to reach the watchmaker. No logic in the writing at all.

The one hypocritical thing he says is that he wants show dont tell, but doesnt want to have the other perspectives to play with when that is showing instead of telling you it happened later. Also I don't know what bro was talking about when he said they didn't explain emanators or the Order because they explained both of those and if he still didnt get it there is a data bank that has key terms if he needed them.
What kept me through Penacony was seeing all the different interactions between the various new factions. But I also see why this may end up affecting the story telling aspect. Constructive criticism is a good thing and we shouldn’t ignore the flaws in HSR (as well as other gacha games). Just glazing and looking at the postive aspects will not contribute to making the game better. Overall I’m looking forward to the 3.0 story and see what they will deliver.
It is not just gacha games I've seen it in other Chinese media too, animations, shows, etc... Chinese story telling loves to yapp a lot and do the "tell not show"
I just hope hoyo reduce the lifeless yapping that has sentences that extends for no reason in Amphoreus but since the writer for that arc is Fanchuan, the guy known for writing visual NOVELS of Durandal and Anti Entropy, im afraid there might be a lot of dialogues 😭 also he wrote Kolosten/Otto's arc(which was my favorite) but ill keep my expectations low for now
The problem is that HSR is busy selling characters rather than telling a story with its characters. Penacony had a bloated roster that they had to kill off Duke Inferno and his gang. Even then, they had to release 6 Myriad Celestia trailers for half the Penacony roster to fast track its characters. Amphoreus is gonna have the same issue with 12 new characters and trying to complete said within 4-5 months... 4-5 months because that's how long Shitty-cony took
just what is the need for all this excessive dialogue? this is a problem in hoyo games (there might be other games with this problem) and it rlly makes the story less interesting I think the story is fine, they need to fix how it is executed and how the dialogues are after playing ghost of tsushima, it made me realize how much hoyo games yap. what? do they want a longer playing time from the gamer or smth?
also with zzz, I've heard ppl say that they are getting more straight to the point, and I can kinda see that for me, chapter 3, jane's special episode and chapter 4 were so good
@kuvjason7236 bro..the gang isn´t dead..it was also confirmed by the devs. They will be playable in the future and the story made it clear that all of them (outside of duke inferno) escaped. Black swan also talked to one of them during the story.
5:48 I didn't even notice the amount of yapping because it's enjoyable to talk to the characters and to try to predict what happens next in the story, but ye some of the yapping when exploring penacony in the introduction and in the middle of the story is so bad i just skipped every dialogue especially the one that has 4 sentences per dialogue that stuff makes my eyes hurt
Not going to lie it’s extremely refreshing to see someone call out the static camera angles and basic poses in the story telling. This applies to all hoyo games but people would have you believe the story telling is incredible. It’s crazy to me that a company that makes nearly 8 figures a month can’t produce a better presented story outside of the high quality 20 second cutscenes during 4 hour segments. Even the gameplay is incredibly simple and mind numbing.
Lol, never cared about the plot. I still don't know what's happening in the star rail world. I'm only interested in pulling characters, building them and dealing big numbers plus clearing the tough contents. That's all.
Not even that, at least VNs use sound effects and music to help the narrative. HSR literally just has the characters stand still, with bland ass background music, no camera angles and just have them yap.

I felt kinda same. I enjoyed Belobog a lot, that last boss fight was EPIC, I was so Hyped! After that however, it was downhill for me, I've tried to give it multiple chances, but after experiencing the beginning of prison arc I gave up. It became so boring (and predictable), probably due to the yapfest and low quality story (for me personally). Couldn't care less about the characters, it just felt hollow. Couple this with the daily/weekly gameplay loop, which just felt like a chore, was not challenging at all (mostly just auto) and there was nothing enjoyable for me in it, so I left and I'm so glad I did. I thought I'll like this game bc I love Persona series, but the quality is just miles apart imo.

They are bad at making games and writing but they are good at selling product/characters and marketing, basically. And make old characters irrelevant to sell new ones (both in story and meta). They are also unable to make meaningful endgame content beyond just giving mobs more hp.

Alot of Honkai Star Rail story issues could be fix by an 3-5 mins cinematic cutscenes like in HI3rd since it could give us some pay off even the road on the way there is rocky. I just don't get how the last cutscene in penacony is 5 secs of Robin catching Sunday falling.
finally i thought i was crazy i totally agree with him penacony was nothing but alot of yapping and talking with minimal fighting and all they did was constantly make everything more and more complicated and adding too many plot twists and without giving closure to previous plot twists and it felt like i was studying calculus because everything made so little sense unless you're a nerd who has nothing better to do but to sit and read HSR for 8 hours a day everyday
Maybe my memory on Penacony is shot. But rewatching this, and remembering Smack mention it before after 2.5, but i don't ever recall a moment where it was implied Himeko was going to die.
If you want the yapping, you play the story. If you want gameplay, you take a break from the story, pause, and do side quests/simulated universe/MOC/etc. The story in HSR is literally the yap. If you're a new player and you play the entire game in a few sittings, that's a lot. If you've been playing for a long time, you're already caught up, a few hours of new yap and lore every month or so really is not that overwhelming, especially if you do it over the course of 2-3 days while doing your other dailies and whatnot.
I took about half a year off from HSR. Just came back for Fugue and to prep a little for 3.0 and just about everything he says resonates with me. The gameplay is still great, I love the character's and the story, but the way they choose to tell the story is just so damn fatiguing.
17:00 they could have also done this and make like custom environments to get a glimpse of planets and places that we would otherwise never have probably gotten to see (i.e sigonia, the place with acheron and the old man) given that the mc are on a trailblaze and wouldnt be able to see every planet it would have been a very cool storytelling device and maybe tease a few future content here and there. so much wasted potential now hearing about this in retrospect so many good ideas wasted 😭
I might be alone on this one but HSR is my favourite game. I think Penacony is great even tough the yapping it gives. I greatly enjoyed the story and even go deeper into the lore. I think the hate is too much. Some people just cant bare the stories and lore that the game tell, then just play other games like Minecraft or something. I know that combat is the main part but stories are important too.
As a player who just played Hsr since Yunli's banner release, I got so lost in their terminology and I didn't know that the main story was referencing the lore from Divergent which I ignored since I'm just there for gameplay and storytelling. Kinda started playing the game when Black Swan was new to the game and kinda stopped playing cuz I lost interest because I literally don't know what a stellaron is and what it does. I still like and play the game especially the characters and the gameplay.
to be fair i feel like HSR will become like genshin impact at one day and than it will go from HSR to ZZZ. I mean its all from the same company anyways. To be fair after the robin story i kinda of fell out of love for HSR as it was easy for me to get good 5 stars without putting money into it and easily grind the levels out which i don't mind at all. As its easy to max level the characters than genshin impact does it. For me i feel like HSR is more like a story watching than a gameplay. While with ZZZ the story arcs are short but the gameplay is to long. With genshin i just wish there was a skip button for certain things as than i would have played genshin impact more. Than also the animation with the characters. Now for me i do wish for ZZZ events kinda of last a little bit longer i felt like it goes by fast.
Honestly good take, zzz to me feels like a decent balance ngl, except in the newer patch bc ppl wanted the tv maze gone which I mean literally what’s the point that’s where most of the story comes from during hollow parts

I loved his video. And I think as players we do need to be open to criticism and sometimes need to agree when there are fair points that are being made about the bad things in the game. If we don't listen, the Devs will also ignore the lacking aspects and not actively work on the game for a better player experience anymore. Been playing and loving hsr since release, but there are so much things that could be done in order to make the game as great as it could be, still too much potential wasted imo.
I really came to the conclusion that people don't really know what they want in video games at all cause it's never enough the issues people had with Belobog was that it felt "rushed" then we get to the latest patch Penacony and they flushed out what the world is supposed to be and they still had problems with it and for the ones that think oh it's a balance problem no it's not HSR has a structure different that other Hoyoverse games it's both story heavy and Lore heavy there is a fucking archives with literally everything you need to know about the game going forward and people refuse to read any of it why cause it's too much yapping and reading and they they get confused when it's mentioned in the story "Oh but why do I need to go read when they could of explain it in the story" for the same reason they complain about it'll be too much yapping if they thought the yapping in the story was long imagine adding all the shit in the archive into dialog you just can never win with people man
31:59 tbh this 100%. It really is just that simple. I've been giving THIS EXACT criticism/feedback via the survey feedback like crazy since version 1.x. I just really hope many other players shared the same sentiments and voiced the same criticism, because this really needs to be heard. They obviously have the budget from past incomes, but they're lazy as hell in this aspect. WE NEED MORE ACTIONS TO ACCOMPANY THE DIALOGUES.
I want to get this off my chest. I do love Penacony. The setting and ideas with it are awesome. But in particular the patch where we got the Sunday/Septimus fight? It dragged horribly. It took like 10-12 hours which would be great as a game you don’t HAVE to pay for. But the dialogue dragged. I had to get through that in 3-4 sittings because I just wanted them to get to the point. On the whole a great story and interesting planet. But they needed to trim the fat in a fair few places. Edit: so much tapping that I nearly missed the big moment of Acheron revealing her name. Still a cool moment but goddamn there’s so much bloat. And then when we are in story battles we’re forced to be in normal speed. Which wouldn’t be the worst thing if normal speed moves at near negative speed. The recent Hoolay fight was PAINFULLY slow. I despise the normal speed.
I feel like the problem with HSR is their way of organizing their company. This is only a guess, but I think the people of the story board team doesn’t really read the story written by the writer and just replicates whatever they were given without thought, probably for efficiency sake. The story itself is good but the story telling is not probably because the people making the story board don’t know the story enough to know what details to leave out. Like imagine if in a movie like Harry Potter, they recreated a story 1 on 1 from a book. You could imagine it would be atrociously slow and there’ll be a lot of yapping and extra details that is unnecessary for the whole story to make sense. This is only my thought and I’m not 100% sure but that’s how it felt like when I did the story quest.
2:10 Belobog was the best. 2.0 Penacony was incredible and then it took a nosedive. The only good things in the rest of 2.X were SAM abd Sunday boss fights... just the fights... Many people disagree though.

Penacony was weak for me… I think persona 5 royal did the whole dream thing better. Sunday was a dogshit villain compared to the main villain in the royal version of p5… they should have doubled down making Gallagher the villain tbh that was more interesting
@zephyr.GG26 I've not finished Penacony because I kinda dropped HSR but the way they told or shown Maruki's side of the story is a perfect example of show don't tell. It's done extremely well and it really hits you with the right moments and feels.
Bro didn't just compare a gacha game to AAA games for the story. Of course Persona 5 will win lol. Let's be honest here Story in so many gacha games are just 2nd or 3rd priority. I will agree about the split story pov's Hoyo is pushing with their games to get more perspectives on a story. It's interesting sure, but it's becoming more and more of a cheap way to reveal information that the party (aka the player) can't have access to. Would be more okay with it if it was from the view of a member of the Astral Express personally.
I think the resource required to do a "tell" sequence is lower than a "show" one. Probably why we see a lot of yapping instead of a show in most gacha.
For myself, I ended up quitting the game entirely after Penacony, and I was a day 1 player. I just felt as though I've had my fill, and the stories I was invested in didn't have the payoffs I wanted ("death" in Penacony is some cute pet, Aventurine did jack shit, the quintet resolution was dogwater). Still though, at the time I felt that I was having an okay experience, even in Penacony. It's only now that I realize how much I was tolerating this game just because Belobog was so damn good. Everyone seems to forget the annoying painful conversations that they are put through in HSR because there are moments of spectacle and they remember those instead and are left with an overall positive experience. For alot of players this video is likely a wake up reminder of all the yap that occured during 2.0 onwards.

I have one simple reason for disliking HSR. Why does a turn based rpg have three actions... You can't block, use items, get knock downs, pass your turn, press turns... You know anything other than 3 buttons... It's so painfully simple and next to no skill expression. I really wish it was a bit more complex.
That's one thing I never liked. Why do we have an inventory if we can't use it DURING the battle? Block would be a nice addition. HSR focuses way too much on offense and not enough defense. Another thing that's really small is canceling ultimates. You can cancel skills but not those?? Feels like arbitrary rules there.

Not only does WUWA have a skip button but they also have a brief written summary of the scene you skipped. Personally I think this is the best way.
Wuwa made so much about characters expression to make the dialogue time more lively and then they add the Skip button to also please the non-story enjoyer too. Even if the game is not on top, i still have big respect for them

@@Zielle4951 Wuwa doesn't have deep lore like Hsr or GI, they're still pretty new to this but during Dialogue Scene, their character doesn't always standing 1 place, at least now they do a much better work compared with 1.0

14:10 at the start of hsr, they also did a lot of angle switches and included more expressions, but with the success of the game they just stopped doing it as much after a while- which is a real bummer since this actually got me so hooked after seeing those dead and vacant faces in genshin for too long

Still disappointed Duke Inferno got off screened… come on dude he was so cool. I wanted to see more of his gang as well, so many were hyped over the trailer for them all…and they didn’t even step a foot inside Penacony. They could’ve at least animated the fighting scene between Acheron and Duke Inferno instead of a PowerPoint slideshow :/
The gang isn´t dead (outside of duke inferno) and will be playable in the future. This was confirmed in a CN interview from the devs, but it will probably take some time for their release.

I absolutely agree on Aventurine. Even more so when in next version, they literally have this man saved off-screen. Apparently Argenti saved him or some bs like, but this is something that happened completely off-screen and it's only ever mentioned in a random message that Aventurine sends to the player daily when you log in.
I think Argenti mentions it when he’s going to fight you in 2.2, but why is there so much offscreen. Like, they’re not worried about the length, so just let us see it.

Hoyo is too busy selling characters. Penacony had such a bloated roster that they had to kill off Duke Inferno and his gang. Then there was a post somewhere regarding Duke Inferno's members and apparently going forward, they will be irrelevant or something like that?!? Wtf was the point in making that dope ass trailer for them? Even then, the roster was STILL bloated and had to fast track 1 quarter of the roster with the Myraid Celestia trailers.
Amphoreus having 12 new characters isnt going to make it great. Slash that roster down to 6 and then you can tell a proper story with its characters rather than selling characters and pumping out a trash story.

The Annihilation Gang wasn't killed off. Acheron only killed Duke Inferno. The rest of the Annihilation Gang is still alive.

Belobog was definitely a better told story but penacony i think "feels" better because the atmosphere was amazing i never felt more immersed then what was going on in penacony even outside of the cutscenes the amount of character you find just running around the streets was so fun to experience man it made me so excited for the future

Looking at HSR objectively, it's kinda mid at best.
It's a shallow turn based game with next to zero skill expression that relies entirely on character roster and Relic luck to "get good". They also keep introducing new mechanics that ignore the core combat "rules" they set up just so that they can sell you new toys without actually putting any meaningful thought or nuance into the kit design.
As a "gacha", yeah it might be pretty good, but as a "turn based RPG game" it's got basically nothing going for it.
so how is that any different from other turn based games like say epic7? Atleast there no bullshit with the dev doing crap like "creating a problem" by purposely creating overtuned pvp units and selling you a solution.

Tbh, my attention span with HSR has dropped significantly after we revisited the Chinese ship and the arc with slumbernanas. I realised I feel this way after I stopped spending money. This means that our interests in the game's story is tied to whether we spent on the game or not.
Once we spent, we subconsciously value it more so we became more mentally & emotionally invested in the story and content. Once we stopped spending, you can finally evaluate the game without biasness of sunk cost. Same goes for every other gacha games in general. Try playing a non-gacha game like Metaphor ReFantazio and detox from gacha sunk cost. It's also turn based but you see how much better is that game's story compared to HSR.
For me that detox is Monster Hunter World. After experiencing Fatalis, it's hard to get the excitement from Gacha. People might say, "HSR is F2P". But still, a 30 pull in HSR is still more expensive than a discounted MHW:I

Gacha story is just not that great, and its crazy to me how some players hype it so much. People see a well animated fight scene amidst all the senseless yapping and act like the whole story is amazing because of that. I tried all these Mihoyo gachas, read the dialogues, and I wasnt really impressed by any of them. Even Wuwa, which is my fav gacha right now, I admit the story is also nothing that amazing. All these gacha stories pale in comparison to actual RPGs. Gacha is a genre of games where the writing is not that important, their priority is to sell the characters, so its really no surprise when storytelling is an afterthought.
If you hadn't heard or tried NIKKE, I HIGHLY advise to check it out, the story is the best gacha story I've ever seen, the gacha system is very fair and free to play friendly. The game may look uninteresting, but trust me, you won't regret checking out NIKKE

Its so funny how , when penacony was airing everyone was shitting themselfes with how incredible it was , yet now suddenly everyone calls its mid , not that i am surprised since they day i did 2.2 story after it took me to days to sit through these 9 hours of this nonsense with no ending i didnt touch the game since , and seeing clips of 2.3 story which was supposed to be a big conclusion to this beloved by everyone story , turned out to be a set up for firefly and trailblazer handholding scene since her banner was airing , my will to play the game faltered even more
TBH, 2.2 is the point I already start losing interest. 2.0 is the introduction, 2.1 is building up Aventurine and Archeron, although not great, 2.2 has so many unsatifactory conclusion that make 2.0 and 2.1 bad in retrospect.
Aventurine going to the other side of dreamscape no pay off, we didn't get to see in it and he just get out with nothing to show.

3. how did Argenti randomly in Penacony and how did he magically saved Aventurine
4. How did "Sigonian stereotype" came to be when Sigonian lives in constant poverty and they're being sold to IPC as properties by their own people?
5. How did Dr.ratio not know about Aventurine's past when he's the head of the intelligence guild for the IPC? (answer: to bait cheap sympathy on Aventurine's character and to lowkey ship the two character together)
6. What was even the purpose of Sparkle in Penacony outside of putting us into the real dreamscape when she was built up by youtube trailers, and "hints" in her character story, that she will wreck havoc to everything but rather,
she was a good guy helping NPC.
The fact that her character was edgy but no balls ruined this character for me.
7. WHY DID PENACONY NOT EVEN WENT INTO ROBIN AND BUILDING HER UP AS A PLOT DEVICE to go up against Sunday?
8. How DID v2.2 aftermath not make Penacony shareholders lose their sht, 107k+ victims,
hard enough to the point of them ruining the entire Penacony stock badly enough that IPC could've easily brought out their entire business?
9. Oti didn't done sht but somehow he's getting blamed for everything and the air of "competence" that was shown in v2.3, was just him....

and Aventurine who brought us to "dead" Robin couldn't put 2 and 2 together that he needed to die by "death" and not Acheron to get to the watchmaker.
13. The "wake up" line when nobody did woke up, in fact, the aftermath of Sunday, the head of the family's betrayal did nothing to Penacony at all, or its market.
14. The Security for the 5* hotel was garbage, so conveniently bad that they let a bunch of people invite criminals to take part of an important festival (duke inferno, wanted by the IPC boothill, etc),
or how they don't even do proper screening for every visitor when they're supposed to.
But I do understand, this is so Firefly, Boothill, SW, etc, can roam around without affecting the cheesy HSR story filled with ab unch of plot convenience elements.

5. Aventurine just didn´t told him. He was established as someone who hide his fragile self and play a role to protect himself. Only Jade and Topaz know about it. Dr. ratio isn´t even the head of the Intelligentsia Guild..he´s just a member.
6. Sparkle is still not a good guy she just accepts every job if its fun or well paid. That´s why she´s even helping sunday to play the role of a fake robin as well, even tho she´s scheming Plan B to blow up the dreamscape in case the Trailblazer fail. Later she use the buttons for the fireworks instead and execute a metaphorical death for firefly. Sparkle mentioned in her profile that she loves to play a backround character or the bad guy. I do think her twist was pretty statisfiying because I didn´t expect her to work with silver wolf the whole time. It was also clarified that she knew about elios script, which explains why she know so much stuff since 2.0. Her task was to make firefly´s third death less painful and help the TB to chase after the truth of penacony. The knowledge of the "childs dream" dreamscape was an important location for 2.2 to find the watchmakers legacy and the death meme was basically the key to reach the true penacony. She also was important for aventurines story as well. I´m sure we see more of her in the future.
7. Fair. Robin was on the weaker side (due to the lack of screentime in previous patches) for me even tho I really enjoyed her story with sunday and the final act.
8. The family still try to hide the whole incident to the outside world. All of the victims were in a comatose state when they were "killed" by the death meme and woke up in the real penacony. Real death was not possible because of Ena´s protection.
9. Oti got blamed because he´s now the current head of penacony after sunday was arrested. So he has to face the full consequences. I Don´t agree that the negotiation was dumb because Aventurine´s involvement was the key to win the debate. He was basically in huge danger after acheron attacked him and the family promised that no one will die in a dream. Acheron is an emenator of nihility and the true enemy of the order, so she can even destory the layers of ena´s protection. The family failed and still try to cover the whole incident, which isn´t an easy task and Jade got the upper hand in this case. So your metaphor fits but it was already planned from Jade and aventurine to begin with.
10. All of them were already in a dreamscape since the beginning. misha´s existence in the hotel was already foreshadowing and your example probably as well.
11.Boothill was important to shoot tiernans bullet. This was also the reason why acheron introduced herself as an galaxy range. She tried to provoke an actual Galaxy ranger to take the bait and boothill answered to it. I agree that the writers could do more with him as the character, but the penacony arc was just his introduction. He will probably have more relevance when oswaldo schneider gets introduced, but it was already nice to see more of him in 2.6 already. The writers proofed that old characters (yanqing in 2.4-2.5) get focus and a continuation of their character arc in new patches. As for topaz and the rest..yeah they were just there.
12. Firefly´s arc was still well made and I´m sure we see her in the future as well (It was at least teased after she find new hope after Jade´s offer).
Aventurine and Firefly, who both have a deep inner tendency to escape reality, accepted this feeling and ultimately rejected it. That's why I personally Love Firefly's Dialogue with sunday. In Theory the "sweet dream" could be the ideal "utopia" due to her illness and her wish to be recognized as firefly instead of Sam. However, her resolve was pretty strong during this Scene and she realized that people Just run away from themselfes and being trapped in this Delusion. I can understand that it was kinda unstatisfiying for you that she leaves tho, but her actions (to experience a second "death" to save everyone) were very important to escape ena´s dream. Another thing to note: It was already implied that Firely knew the Trailblazer already, which fits to kafka´s companion quest. The Tb was actually trained by kafka and even Blade remember about them. So i hope this will get explored further in the future.
14. Gallagher send the invitations to make people chase after the watchmaker legacy and uncover the truth of penacony before its too late. He made the invitations legit in the system of penacony´s database. This is pretty easy for him to pull of as an History Fictionologists.

The Penacony arc to me felt sort of like the newer Star Wars trilogy. As if a new directer had taken over for every patch and kept changing the direction of the story.
2.0 felt like it was going to be a detective arc with the whole 'everyone could be lying' bit and Sparkle's potential to disguise herself as anyone. This is the direction I personally wished they had gone in, because knowing that there could be little clues hinting that someone might be Sparkle made the dialogue much more interesting.
But of course, they had to go and kill off the Sparkle hype by almost totally forgetting about her for the next 2 patches only to reveal in 2.3 that she WASN'T the evil agent of chaos we expected, but a goofy prankster instead.
I don't hate the direction they took her character in, but as someone who was drawn into Star Rail because of Sparkle's trailers and had been eagerly anticipating her in the main story, it was...a bit of a letdown.
Penacony wasn’t THAT good. The plot was overly convoluted and not satisfying. “Everyone could be lying” yeah but… not really… only technically. The lying didn’t matter in the end and everyone became friends. Felt forced. Also, quite a few characters could’ve been completely taken out of the story and nothing would need to change. For example: Boothill. What was his relevancy on Penacony? HSR just pushed new characters who we had no time to get to know or care about at us for the sales. They’re Mihoyo so it’s expected, but it led to a really non-fleshed out story. Shame the minority’s going to be drowned out by the loud majority who say Penacony is peak and people who didn’t like it can’t read. Hoyoverse needs to hear the criticism if we don’t want a repeat of Penacony’s problems on Amphoreus.
As someone who didn’t like Penacony’s plot, I can still admit there’s some parts I enjoyed. Like when it ended. XD
In all serious, yeah, the first part wasn’t bad. I was interested in the whole mystery around Robin and Firefly’s death, but they overused the false deaths. Even with Jiaoqiu in later patches. I’ve only played HSR, so do characters who die not sell well or something?
Also, I 100% believe the Annihilation Gang actually getting to Penacony would’ve made it a much better story. Sunday and Aventurine as antagonists were eh, but Duke Inferno could’ve been an actually irredeemable villain we’re allowed to hate. The hype around him only for him to be offscreened was annoying and didn’t have the shock value HSR was going for.

I love HSR but for god’s sake that 2.6 Rappa quest was about to make me go mentally insane. It took 8 hours of so much ridiculous yapping, the actual monkeys and bananas were so insanely fucked up. I hope I never have to go through that again
If they made the effort of making dynamic conversations instead of stale standing around in a circle talking, much like they do in WuWa. The actual dialogue would be more engaging. They make way too much money to copy paste the dialogue delivery from Genshin Impact. Even ZZZ varies its delivery with use of dynamic comic panels, and lengthy cutscenes that show emotion. Yes ZZZ still has "standing still" delivery at times, but theres a better balance.
It's a shame that even the more dynamic dialogs in Wuwa don't help it stop being a piece of boring shit.

i’m actually experiencing this firsthand rn. i started an alt account over the summer and got through belobog and luofu story pretty easily, but i haven’t even started penacony’s story yet. it sounds draining just to enter and start spamming through dialogue i’ve already heard. it might be worth it to get to the new places with calyxes and get to amphoreus, but holy shit i can’t believe how much stuff is on penacony that i don’t want to experience again due to how much time it takes.

People want to enjoy the story but why should people sit through 6 hours of still frames and lengthy dialogue when 9/10 times they already summarized what needs to be said 30 mins into a conversation.
The problem is that if you’re going to not add a skip button then either make what’s being said something that’s actually worth consuming by adding new angles animations and shortening the dialogue so it’s not a 6 hour yap fest about shit that doesn’t matter.

Then they add a skip button in case players doesn't like it BUT ALSO give a summary of what happened around that time, they not just skip it, they sort it and send you to cutscene if available.

TO BE HONEST, I've been starting to get more and more frustrated by HSR... Penacony in retrospect was only alright imo, Belobog is still my favorite story arc. Also constant powercreep, break meta (I hate that playstyle), summon meta is coming and I also think that is gonna be miserable and the best support is my most hated character (Robin). ALSO THE RAPPA QUEST WAS THE BIGGEST FEVER DREAM I'VE EVER WITNESSED IN MY LIFE HOLY SHIT. I can't really put it into words really but all of this in combination, I'm just not enjoying the direction the game is going rn and I HOPE 3.0 will change that
Penacony was way, way, way too long, the story was all over the place at times, the "walk on walls" segment was cool the first time and a pain in the ass all the other times. I was actually one of the 12 people who liked Rappa, pulled for her, and then did the newest event story which was so fkn bad and childish it was actually unbelievable.

Shaoji was a mistake to add to HSR and you cannot tell me otherwise. His reputation is what carried the hype for Penacony, only for him to fumble everything and make the story worst. He is the singlehandedly the reason I want the skip button to exist.

Tbh i hated Penacony because it was so unnecessarily convoluted with so little actual combat. I preferred the idea of Belabog in the sense that the trailblazers reached an isolated planet and have to resolve it's issues to get to the stellaron. The laofu (pt2) was cool with expanding the universe by introducing the intergalactic political show of force. But penacony was trying to do like a 4-way covert power struggle with conflicting interests even within each of the factions. If i wanted something that convoluted i would get into IRL politics
You had me until you praised the China region story that is by far the worst story in the game I would say its worse than any Genshin story its that bad.
1. No clarification on Dr.ratio using Aventurine to trick Sunday to gain his trust and what that had led up to.
2. the existence of the IPC was conveniently non-existent
3. how did Argenti randomly in Penacony and how did he magically saved Aventurine
4. How did "Sigonian stereotype" came to be when Sigonian lives in constant poverty and they're being sold to IPC as properties by their own people?
5. How did Dr.ratio not know about Aventurine's past when he's the head of the intelligence guild for the IPC? (answer: to bait cheap sympathy on Aventurine's character and to lowkey ship the two character together)
6. What was even the purpose of Sparkle in Penacony outside of putting us into the real dreamscape when she was built up by youtube trailers, and "hints" in her character story, that she will wreck havoc to everything but rather,
she was a good guy helping NPC.
The fact that her character was edgy but no balls ruined this character for me.
7. WHY DID PENACONY NOT EVEN WENT INTO ROBIN AND BUILDING HER UP AS A PLOT DEVICE to go up against Sunday?

and Aventurine who brought us to "dead" Robin couldn't put 2 and 2 together that he needed to die by "death" and not Acheron to get to the watchmaker.
13. The "wake up" line when nobody did woke up, in fact, the aftermath of Sunday, the head of the family's betrayal did nothing to Penacony at all, or its market.
14. The Security for the 5* hotel was garbage, so conveniently bad that they let a bunch of people invite criminals to take part of an important festival (duke inferno, wanted by the IPC boothill, etc),
or how they don't even do proper screening for every visitor when they're supposed to.
But I do understand, this is so Firefly, Boothill, SW, etc, can roam around without affecting the cheesy HSR story filled with ab unch of plot convenience elements.

Once we got to Penacony, the story really started to drag on which got me frustrated. It was the first time it reminded me of Genshin levels of yapping in HSR. At least in HSR, they have interesting story bits and most importantly, I like how a lot of older characters make a return to the story, even if brief. Seeing them interact with other characters in different worlds and play a part in the new story is always nice.
Gameplay is very fun, but I hope they start investing in more dynamic storytelling and longer cutscenes. Basically like ZZZ.
The story telling always bother me in HSR because the character barely move, March is suppose to be an expression character yet she stands still like a twig in the ground, I appreciate the smaller movement but it’s not enough, then you see Wuwa giving so many expression in their quest and a lot of unique interaction in each new main quest, Can HSR just please add a skip button just like in ZZZ a short summary of what happened, even Wuwa decided to add the short summary before you skip.

The story was just a giant wall that I got bored hitting my head against. Every single character is speaking with riddles, trying to look smart but it ends up just being boring. Fights were ok, but I stopped after aventurine boss so dunno if there might be great ones later

The snoozefest for me was Luofu entirely, shit was boring af to me except the fake tingyun part and some of DHIL. Penacony is what really immersed me into the story, and the final fight was epic.

I gonna repeat myself but.. For some reason hsr players have an aura of elitism when it comes to Genshin players but both of those games share some of the same problems.
Bloated dialogues, overexposition, fake deaths for a shock value (Firefly, aventurine etc.), underdeveloped characters, Acheron's nonsensical motivation just because she is emanator of Nihility making her more of a plot device then character (she did all of this in panacony to put flowers on the grave of the person she barely interacted with, she herself said that it was pointless) etc.
But tbh the "underdeveloped characters" point is a problem with all gachas since they introduce too many characters to the point it's impossible to give them proper care and screentime. Because they focused on selling the characters not giving them proper development. The only gacha that doesn't have that problem is PGR and I hope Kuro follow the steps of pgr in wuwa. For now Wuwa did a decent job at focusing on playable characters instead of npcs and they are not releasing that many characters. There always will be unimportant/underdeveloped characters in any stories but it feels like it's true for majority characters in Gachas.
For example Stanley from PGR (chapter 17 character) is just an npc and he's better written than most of the other gachas characters.
Fgo tackles it's cast pretty well too, but shame that they also have 2nd worst mc in all of fiction

The one hypocritical thing he says is that he wants show dont tell, but doesnt want to have the other perspectives to play with when that is showing instead of telling you it happened later. Also I don't know what bro was talking about when he said they didn't explain emanators or the Order because they explained both of those and if he still didnt get it there is a data bank that has key terms if he needed them.
What kept me through Penacony was seeing all the different interactions between the various new factions. But I also see why this may end up affecting the story telling aspect.
Constructive criticism is a good thing and we shouldn’t ignore the flaws in HSR (as well as other gacha games). Just glazing and looking at the postive aspects will not contribute to making the game better. Overall I’m looking forward to the 3.0 story and see what they will deliver.
It is not just gacha games I've seen it in other Chinese media too, animations, shows, etc... Chinese story telling loves to yapp a lot and do the "tell not show"

The problem is that HSR is busy selling characters rather than telling a story with its characters. Penacony had a bloated roster that they had to kill off Duke Inferno and his gang. Even then, they had to release 6 Myriad Celestia trailers for half the Penacony roster to fast track its characters.
Amphoreus is gonna have the same issue with 12 new characters and trying to complete said within 4-5 months... 4-5 months because that's how long Shitty-cony took

@kuvjason7236 bro..the gang isn´t dead..it was also confirmed by the devs. They will be playable in the future and the story made it clear that all of them (outside of duke inferno) escaped. Black swan also talked to one of them during the story.
5:48 I didn't even notice the amount of yapping because it's enjoyable to talk to the characters and to try to predict what happens next in the story, but ye some of the yapping when exploring penacony in the introduction and in the middle of the story is so bad i just skipped every dialogue especially the one that has 4 sentences per dialogue that stuff makes my eyes hurt
Not going to lie it’s extremely refreshing to see someone call out the static camera angles and basic poses in the story telling. This applies to all hoyo games but people would have you believe the story telling is incredible. It’s crazy to me that a company that makes nearly 8 figures a month can’t produce a better presented story outside of the high quality 20 second cutscenes during 4 hour segments. Even the gameplay is incredibly simple and mind numbing.
Lol, never cared about the plot. I still don't know what's happening in the star rail world. I'm only interested in pulling characters, building them and dealing big numbers plus clearing the tough contents. That's all.

I felt kinda same. I enjoyed Belobog a lot, that last boss fight was EPIC, I was so Hyped! After that however, it was downhill for me, I've tried to give it multiple chances, but after experiencing the beginning of prison arc I gave up. It became so boring (and predictable), probably due to the yapfest and low quality story (for me personally). Couldn't care less about the characters, it just felt hollow.
Couple this with the daily/weekly gameplay loop, which just felt like a chore, was not challenging at all (mostly just auto) and there was nothing enjoyable for me in it, so I left and I'm so glad I did.
I thought I'll like this game bc I love Persona series, but the quality is just miles apart imo.

Alot of Honkai Star Rail story issues could be fix by an 3-5 mins cinematic cutscenes like in HI3rd since it could give us some pay off even the road on the way there is rocky. I just don't get how the last cutscene in penacony is 5 secs of Robin catching Sunday falling.
finally i thought i was crazy i totally agree with him penacony was nothing but alot of yapping and talking with minimal fighting and all they did was constantly make everything more and more complicated and adding too many plot twists and without giving closure to previous plot twists and it felt like i was studying calculus because everything made so little sense unless you're a nerd who has nothing better to do but to sit and read HSR for 8 hours a day everyday
Maybe my memory on Penacony is shot. But rewatching this, and remembering Smack mention it before after 2.5, but i don't ever recall a moment where it was implied Himeko was going to die.
If you want the yapping, you play the story. If you want gameplay, you take a break from the story, pause, and do side quests/simulated universe/MOC/etc.
The story in HSR is literally the yap. If you're a new player and you play the entire game in a few sittings, that's a lot. If you've been playing for a long time, you're already caught up, a few hours of new yap and lore every month or so really is not that overwhelming, especially if you do it over the course of 2-3 days while doing your other dailies and whatnot.

I took about half a year off from HSR. Just came back for Fugue and to prep a little for 3.0 and just about everything he says resonates with me. The gameplay is still great, I love the character's and the story, but the way they choose to tell the story is just so damn fatiguing.
I felt the same about lack of gameplay in penacony.The only story I listen too is the main ones and even then I skip a bit. Everything else is a skip
17:00 they could have also done this and make like custom environments to get a glimpse of planets and places that we would otherwise never have probably gotten to see (i.e sigonia, the place with acheron and the old man) given that the mc are on a trailblaze and wouldnt be able to see every planet it would have been a very cool storytelling device and maybe tease a few future content here and there. so much wasted potential now hearing about this in retrospect so many good ideas wasted 😭
I might be alone on this one but HSR is my favourite game. I think Penacony is great even tough the yapping it gives. I greatly enjoyed the story and even go deeper into the lore. I think the hate is too much. Some people just cant bare the stories and lore that the game tell, then just play other games like Minecraft or something. I know that combat is the main part but stories are important too.

As a player who just played Hsr since Yunli's banner release, I got so lost in their terminology and I didn't know that the main story was referencing the lore from Divergent which I ignored since I'm just there for gameplay and storytelling.
Kinda started playing the game when Black Swan was new to the game and kinda stopped playing cuz I lost interest because I literally don't know what a stellaron is and what it does.
I still like and play the game especially the characters and the gameplay.
to be fair i feel like HSR will become like genshin impact at one day and than it will go from HSR to ZZZ. I mean its all from the same company anyways. To be fair after the robin story i kinda of fell out of love for HSR as it was easy for me to get good 5 stars without putting money into it and easily grind the levels out which i don't mind at all. As its easy to max level the characters than genshin impact does it. For me i feel like HSR is more like a story watching than a gameplay. While with ZZZ the story arcs are short but the gameplay is to long. With genshin i just wish there was a skip button for certain things as than i would have played genshin impact more. Than also the animation with the characters. Now for me i do wish for ZZZ events kinda of last a little bit longer i felt like it goes by fast.
Honestly good take, zzz to me feels like a decent balance ngl, except in the newer patch bc ppl wanted the tv maze gone which I mean literally what’s the point that’s where most of the story comes from during hollow parts

@@Iceeman7266 They're taking the criticisms with regards to TV mechanic. It's a creative way of storytelling but can easily be overused, so them taking feedback is a positive.

i agree tbh, i did like the characters for penacony at least most of them but i actually disliked doing the main story quest for it ,it was so boring i didnt care about the lore at all i just wanted to be done with it :x
I loved his video. And I think as players we do need to be open to criticism and sometimes need to agree when there are fair points that are being made about the bad things in the game. If we don't listen, the Devs will also ignore the lacking aspects and not actively work on the game for a better player experience anymore.
Been playing and loving hsr since release, but there are so much things that could be done in order to make the game as great as it could be, still too much potential wasted imo.
Not as bad as people who SA women & their fan who don't seem to care their drama queen of a streamer did it.
I really came to the conclusion that people don't really know what they want in video games at all cause it's never enough the issues people had with Belobog was that it felt "rushed" then we get to the latest patch Penacony and they flushed out what the world is supposed to be and they still had problems with it and for the ones that think oh it's a balance problem no it's not HSR has a structure different that other Hoyoverse games it's both story heavy and Lore heavy there is a fucking archives with literally everything you need to know about the game going forward and people refuse to read any of it why cause it's too much yapping and reading and they they get confused when it's mentioned in the story "Oh but why do I need to go read when they could of explain it in the story" for the same reason they complain about it'll be too much yapping if they thought the yapping in the story was long imagine adding all the shit in the archive into dialog you just can never win with people man
31:59 tbh this 100%. It really is just that simple. I've been giving THIS EXACT criticism/feedback via the survey feedback like crazy since version 1.x. I just really hope many other players shared the same sentiments and voiced the same criticism, because this really needs to be heard. They obviously have the budget from past incomes, but they're lazy as hell in this aspect. WE NEED MORE ACTIONS TO ACCOMPANY THE DIALOGUES.
I want to get this off my chest. I do love Penacony. The setting and ideas with it are awesome. But in particular the patch where we got the Sunday/Septimus fight? It dragged horribly. It took like 10-12 hours which would be great as a game you don’t HAVE to pay for. But the dialogue dragged. I had to get through that in 3-4 sittings because I just wanted them to get to the point. On the whole a great story and interesting planet. But they needed to trim the fat in a fair few places.
Edit: so much tapping that I nearly missed the big moment of Acheron revealing her name. Still a cool moment but goddamn there’s so much bloat. And then when we are in story battles we’re forced to be in normal speed. Which wouldn’t be the worst thing if normal speed moves at near negative speed. The recent Hoolay fight was PAINFULLY slow. I despise the normal speed.

I feel like the problem with HSR is their way of organizing their company. This is only a guess, but I think the people of the story board team doesn’t really read the story written by the writer and just replicates whatever they were given without thought, probably for efficiency sake. The story itself is good but the story telling is not probably because the people making the story board don’t know the story enough to know what details to leave out. Like imagine if in a movie like Harry Potter, they recreated a story 1 on 1 from a book. You could imagine it would be atrociously slow and there’ll be a lot of yapping and extra details that is unnecessary for the whole story to make sense. This is only my thought and I’m not 100% sure but that’s how it felt like when I did the story quest.
2:10 Belobog was the best. 2.0 Penacony was incredible and then it took a nosedive. The only good things in the rest of 2.X were SAM abd Sunday boss fights... just the fights...

The only main difference is that you get to jump around and have a bit more platform sessions, but it also falls into the exact same traps that its peers have done where it’s about you walking to this area and talking then you walk to this area and talking then you walk to this area and talking
Penacony was weak for me… I think persona 5 royal did the whole dream thing better. Sunday was a dogshit villain compared to the main villain in the royal version of p5… they should have doubled down making Gallagher the villain tbh that was more interesting
The whole royal storyline was peak P5 and the villain actually had good intentions.

@zephyr.GG26 I've not finished Penacony because I kinda dropped HSR but the way they told or shown Maruki's side of the story is a perfect example of show don't tell.
It's done extremely well and it really hits you with the right moments and feels.
Bro didn't just compare a gacha game to AAA games for the story. Of course Persona 5 will win lol. Let's be honest here Story in so many gacha games are just 2nd or 3rd priority. The first priority will always be The Characters that will be your Waifus/Husbandos. That's always the strategy of so many gacha Devs to attract players to play their games.

I saw someone in the live comparing it to persona but in persona there is less yapping and more gameplay grind than what hsr offers lol. Even better you can fast forward or skip unlike hsr and any other hoyo games

I will agree about the split story pov's Hoyo is pushing with their games to get more perspectives on a story. It's interesting sure, but it's becoming more and more of a cheap way to reveal information that the party (aka the player) can't have access to. Would be more okay with it if it was from the view of a member of the Astral Express personally.
I think the resource required to do a "tell" sequence is lower than a "show" one. Probably why we see a lot of yapping instead of a show in most gacha.
For myself, I ended up quitting the game entirely after Penacony, and I was a day 1 player. I just felt as though I've had my fill, and the stories I was invested in didn't have the payoffs I wanted ("death" in Penacony is some cute pet, Aventurine did jack shit, the quintet resolution was dogwater). Still though, at the time I felt that I was having an okay experience, even in Penacony.
It's only now that I realize how much I was tolerating this game just because Belobog was so damn good. Whoever that HI3 writer is should quit his dayjob.
Everyone seems to forget the annoying painful conversations that they are put through in HSR because there are moments of spectacle and they remember those instead and are left with an overall positive experience. For alot of players this video is likely a wake up reminder of all the yap that occured during 2.0 onwards.
honestly i love hearing people analyze all sorts of things especially games and adding their own perspectives and going over just every facet of everything they can but sometimes i just like to go off of how i feel and i have fun playing star rail and as simple as it is its all that matters to me after a certain point of feeling exhausted explaining why i like something so no i dont believe star rail is bad personally but i also dont think it even matters

I have one simple reason for disliking HSR. Why does a turn based rpg have three actions... You can't block, use items, get knock downs, pass your turn, press turns... You know anything other than 3 buttons... It's so painfully simple and next to no skill expression. I really wish it was a bit more complex.

That's one thing I never liked. Why do we have an inventory if we can't use it DURING the battle? Block would be a nice addition. HSR focuses way too much on offense and not enough defense. Another thing that's really small is canceling ultimates. You can cancel skills but not those?? Feels like arbitrary rules there.
Or even better make techniques work in combat and introduce a gear mechanic where it gives you additional ability just like echos in wuthering waves
