I've read around that some werent on with this Trailblaze mission because there wasnt much dropping moments compared to first Penancony arc during 2.0. On the other hand, myself as a uni student and in mid 20s, Paperfold University story has been hitting me close to home with some stuffs like exam pain and thesis rejection dialogue from npcs, the Dean complaining about how bad the performance of students is now compared to his time when job landings were on the spot (in reference to the irl job market nowadays), and trends that quickly go out soon as it went viral. I know it wasnt bombastic compared to 2.0 and 2.1 when I had a blast with the Sunday/Septimus boss fight but hey everyone has their own opinion on what they like and they dont like.
I like the story in this version, really I do. But I swear on all that is holy if I hear the words banana or Ninja one more time in the same sentence I will go insane
I love that you also do HSR videos, please keep it up. I want to add that Mr Reca will definitely feature again. Him being the director of the previous Penacony plotlines + knowing our past missions + being a memokeeper who can be invisible means that he might have been watching us since 1.0

yo, this update got me buzzin frfr 🤯🔥 hoyoverse came in with max rizz on this one, hit us with the double entendre, the spicy lore, and cultural commentary all in one skibidi sweep. rappa’s quest? absolutely slaps, she brought that ohio energy with layers that just keep unfolding. mr. reca’s vibe? bro’s got that fanum tax paid up-gyatt, absolute legend. they legit hit the greedy with this level of storycraft, leaving the whole fandom salty they weren’t ready for this cinema. galaxy rangers and memokeepers out here? too goated, major w.
I hate how I understand this I hate how despite living in millennial 2010s culture I’m able to understand the latest shift in language,is this what other people felt when I thought Ugandan knuckles was funny?
Language mutates and evolves naturally. It's not the end of the world when slang gets shifted out a little faster than it did before. Take shakespeare insults, for example, and try saying them out loud; you might find it cringier than the shit from 5 years ago. unrelated note, treating demon slayer was some kind of content masterpiece, LMAO. almost every other long-running battle shounen has more, and only a set few brainrot manga have less.
appreciate this video so much lol i could noott focus when trying to do this quest and all the monkey stuff got old so fast T^T which i suppose is the point but it made it hard to follow. so very much appreciate this video, thanks♥
Same issue I have with Genshin writing, the good parts are there just stop retelling me the same thing I already know The only time I felt it was handled well was Sumeru and Penacony.Sumeru in that the beginning has most of it tied to a time and Penacony is a huge murder mystery slowing uncovering Sunday’s beliefs
The irony of people complaining about quest length / bloat and struggling to focus, in the comment section of a video discussing brainrot and the shortening of attention spans, talking about a story chapter of a game that was representing brainrot and the shortening of attention spans, is not lost on me This really does say alot about society
I wish lack of attention span was my main reason for skipping through the quest. Unfortunately my issue was that Rappa's dialogue makes me wanna delete the game. So i figured it's better to pretend Rappa and this quest never existed.
This video was a rollercoaster And yeah the first half of the quest I feel it was hard to focus on then it got better at end Burnice song hits too hard I've listened to too much of it
What really got me with Rappa is when it was revealed that the horrific ‘training’ she had to go through was when she was 5-10 years old. How that woman was fine with just throwing a child away and restarting with another. All of this for a minute CHANCE that Dr. Primitive MIGHT give them praise.
i literally remember saying out loud to my friend at the START of the quest "oh my gosh is this going to be a commentary on social media trends and brainrot???" one of the best quests for sure, and i was so glad to see this video come up in my feed because of this XDD
I feel like people in the comments are forgetting that ZZZ too, has similar critiques on stuff like this, especially if you look closer at "the inter-knot". ZZZ is also a layered work of fiction with tons of commentary on society. Don't sleep on its lore.
Listening to your analysis, I find it fitting that Boothill was involved with this, because he's obviously a reference to old westerns. His line during his ultimate being an almost one for one quote of Clint Eastwoods line near the end of "The Bad, The Good, and The Ugly" a film's who's climax is like a 10 minute mexican standoff where the characters stare at each other for the majority of it. But its done with such style, creativity, and character that you aren't bored during those 10 minutes. It's something you just don't see in a lot of films these days and I think it connects well with the theme of this quest given Boothill's connection to westerns.
I really do love Penacony for how every single patch focused on it is some philosophical or psychological look into the human nature of duplicity, egoes and/or escapism and the importance of individuality and facing yourself. 2.6's story was no different and it always baffles me a bit when people dislike Penacony's story for its surface level "silliness", when even a little thought into what the story is actually trying to say will show how effective the world is in showcasing those themes. From the random npcs you can talk to to the main story to everything inbetween.
I agree with what you are saying, but Honkai: Star Rail has a lot of yapping. It's not the same useless dialogue that Genshin tends to have tho since most dialogue in Star Rail has actual Lore purpose. HSR's main issue is that they can't seem to keep stuff concise. The 2.7 Trailblaze Mission was good since it kept things on the shorter side.
@DragonMJE i feel like the issue is less that theres a lot of yapping and more the pacing of said yapping as anime games are guilty of having veeeeery slow dialogue in all languages, both in how things are said and (especially) in dialogue between each other as theres always unnaturally long pauses between things people say and they dont immediately bounce between each other. (I was actually disappointed by the 2.7 story bc it felt too short and underbaked for me)
Take it one step further than art with effort put into it triumphing over no-effort brainrot. Look at it as myth (i.e. stories that point to higher truths) triumphing over media that does not connect to such truths. This theme is prevalent in Genshin as well, and I'd argue I'd extremely relevant now.
Loved to see an introspective look at 2.6 story. I have seen people calling it a filler patch or just mindlessly skipping it and I think its a shame I really enjoyed it. Didnt plan to pull for Rappa but after I was done with 2.6 story she really grew on me. Good stuff man
Hoyo knew how to make a meta commentary-story of it, definitely they can make original brainrot content successfully. That said, the amount of recommended content(instead of people/friend you follow) in zucc's meta platforms, especially instagram, had been so sickening, I just had to stop using it and I worry that brainrot had further influenced normies that couldn't tell simple logic or precedence like A to B and to C, until Z
Ya know, going into this patch, I figured that it’d get horrifying and lore-heavy sooner or later(Because, well, it’s Penacony) and that the monkeys(and their associated brainrot) were just the messenger for that, so to speak After playing this patch, I can say that’s pretty much the long and short of it(And there’s a huge Rhythm Heaven reference in the form of Sound Hunt right after it as a nice bonus) They played “Return to monke” for horror and it actually kinda worked, as befits a Genius(I also called this being the patch where we’d finally get to see Dr. Primitive get involved with the plot in some capacity)
Really good video. I found the actual content of this mission pretty disappointing and I think it caused me to check out from the interesting themes that were going on, so thanks for the help in getting me to actually appreciate it!
This was a really helpful video as I was really confused on what was even happening lmao, thank you. I wish more people would see things like you do about this quest, or at least have an open mind about it, because all I’ve seen was people disliking the quest. I liked the quest, I just wish I was smarter so I can comprehend stories a bit better lol. Makes it a bit harder to enjoy a quest if I’m confused most of the quest
"How will you fight and kill an idea?" "With a better idea." This was a conversation (paraphrased) in the SCP-3125 story that's stuck with me for years and, while I struggled to understand why exactly Robin and Boothill's DJ party was able to help resolve the crisis while playing the quest, that was what I was thinking the whole time our heroes worked on demolishing Profnnaa's plan.
Before this HSR arc was ever shown, I have really not cared for any latest trends. I never got into Tiktok for all the videos there that are trying to be "memetastic" or trying to be like celebrities and whatnot. What I mainly into are anime, video games, history, stoic philosophies, heavy metal, epic symphonic music and other fun and educational, meaningful things, to search for inspirations and ideas. What I'm into are fun, knowledge and things that I find meaningful. I can like both new and old things, but I certainly want the good, fun, old things to be forgotten. I like to have a Renaissance of such fun, meaningful and quality things; just because they're old doesn't mean they're obsolete. While I honestly could choose something better, it's good to see this kind of message being made. I could make a similar story of my own where it involves action and to have a Renaissance of meaningful, ancient knowledge.
9:29 She strangle my banana until I [INCORRECT BUZZER] (did you mean dangle?) Also I think a lot of people missed the point about the brainrot - you are supposed to be put off by it. I had a lot of friends complain about them going overboard, but then happily spend their days posting gooner memes or Xitter shitposts. Like come on, you can lead a horse to water...
I find extra funny how a game that wants to literally fry your brain with too much FOMO and shit to do, makes a commentary about brain rot, I really like HSTR story, I am trying to focus only in leveling up and build up the characters I like and complete all the story, but that doesn't mean that the game isn't bombarding my brain all the time with indicators of "incomplete" objectives and other shit, and while I like the ingame chat among the characters because it even has interesting pieces of story and lore, I found exhausting that more than half of the messages always force upon you a secondary or daily mission it is just too annoying, I even stopped to read the messages entirely for that reason, it is like looking at my irl whatsapp more than half of the messages are about people waiting for me to do shit for them (I am a lawyer btw) so HSTR ingame chat offends me at a personal level it is like irl all over again. XD
Absolutely agree with analysis, but find whole situation is funny. HSR is pretty close to targets of critique in that story - it is wiritten pretty simple and rarely commits to its themes or concepts. And has a cult following with many brainrot memes.
I didn't actually enjoy the mission as much as I thought I would have when I was told we were returning to penacony. I was touched by Rappa's backstory, but it unfortunately lacked the direct connection that the first few managed to build. With that out of the way, I had a few more thoughts to add to your video. First, it was an extremely useful analysis that helped recontextualize the mission. Second, the mission offers an argument frequently forgotten when people talk about destiny and free will. If people are shaped by their experiences, then putting them in the same situation with the same experiences (including everything as minute as what the weather two weeks prior was) would mean they would act the same because they *are* the same.
wasnt that kind of a political commentary too? that thing about "devoid of critical thinking" and "who takes control of the trends first always win" politics nowadays are being extremely influenced by meme culture, younger voters are are forming their political opinions through memes, voting on the "based and funny" and distancing themselves from who is considered "cringe and beta" or whatever are their slangs for that nowadays, that thing about russian bots on social media, etc
Tbh I understand that ppl could "hate" the writting for this patch for being it too silly, but at the same I don't understand how they COULD think it's silly. I rather like the exposition about Rappa's past, the critique and the overall theme, it was pretty much on point, even Reca looks a bit like a "lunatic" monkey, with his color theme being brown and cream colors, everything goes smoothly both in exposition and theme, they even used the spraycan "splashes" to hide the blood and dark theme that was behind. In general they do that all the time, but if Rappa didn't like or use grafitti, you coulnd't see what's hidden behind the bright colors without it looking out of place. I understand that Hoyo doesn't like to say plainly what's going on and use criptic speech to send the message but I think this patch was actually pretty mild compared with other encripted messages out there in the hoyoverse. Great video, I didn't knew you till I was recommended this video from you by youtube, and I quite enjoyed.
I have not seen the video yet, but I have seen a lot of people criticizing the Banana Monkey arc because it's ''sudden brainrot for memes''. And yeah, maybe it is. ¿But what was so surprising about it? It's been hinted a long time ago that it is what Dr. Primitive does. It was definitely not sudden lol.
Help I just love how you sound like Reca himself XD Also I was really thinking why Boothill's part of this quest was called Dead Banana Society, a direct reference to 'Dead Poet's Society', and I think I figured it out, though it's just speculation. It has to do with how the recent 'trend' of reading in the form of Booktok and Bookstagram have been pushing sub-par books, yet old classics still stay in trend no matter how much brainrot is out there, reflective of the Banana memetic virus being modern form of literature, while the ninja memetic virus, the older classics. (No hate to either Booktok or Bookstagram, it is JUST speculation on my part)
After this patch I NEED Dr. Primitive’s hide. Are there any…decent geniuses? Maybe Herta but she’s kind of above it all. But she’s not trying to recreate a near undying and multiplying bug god. She’s not forcefully regressing entire planets. While he’s not in the Genius Society, Dr. Ratio has a good motivation even though he’s a massive ass(part of his charm though.)

I went to that back again due to the timestamp and immediatly started tearing up. The 4 shots from 86 certainly helped with that
That banana song was stuck in my head for a while
An island full of bananas(banananana)
ba na na na ba na na na
I hate it so much especially when it played in the background during a scene or two. It was so distracting, I had to mute everything😭😭
a lovely nest for slumbernanas
You are not you when hungry, here have a banana.
please never stop making video... i love them all so much
I love that you also do HSR videos, please keep it up. I want to add that Mr Reca will definitely feature again. Him being the director of the previous Penacony plotlines + knowing our past missions + being a memokeeper who can be invisible means that he might have been watching us since 1.0
I died laughing when you said "but" and added Teyvat's biggest slappy owner Eula
👀
The way you said “ItS aN aBsOLuTely FaBuLoUs pReForManCe” I started laughing so damn hard. Reca has replaced my old fav character (sampo) and he is A THOUSAND times better then anyone else in my eyes

yo, this update got me buzzin frfr 🤯🔥 hoyoverse came in with max rizz on this one, hit us with the double entendre, the spicy lore, and cultural commentary all in one skibidi sweep. rappa’s quest? absolutely slaps, she brought that ohio energy with layers that just keep unfolding. mr. reca’s vibe? bro’s got that fanum tax paid up-gyatt, absolute legend. they legit hit the greedy with this level of storycraft, leaving the whole fandom salty they weren’t ready for this cinema. galaxy rangers and memokeepers out here? too goated, major w.
💯💯💯💀💀💀
I feel so old
I hate how I understand this
I hate how despite living in millennial 2010s culture I’m able to understand the latest shift in language,is this what other people felt when I thought Ugandan knuckles was funny?
@@LycanMOON You certainly sound like someone who knows de wey.
Star Rail is weird in this way because the writing is genuinely Peak, but they tend to overbloat the quests.
Same issue I have with Genshin writing, the good parts are there just stop retelling me the same thing I already know
The only time I felt it was handled well was Sumeru and Penacony.Sumeru in that the beginning has most of it tied to a time and Penacony is a huge murder mystery slowing uncovering Sunday’s beliefs
The monkey jokes were a lot funnier in my language, so it really depends.
The irony of people complaining about quest length / bloat and struggling to focus, in the comment section of a video discussing brainrot and the shortening of attention spans, talking about a story chapter of a game that was representing brainrot and the shortening of attention spans, is not lost on me
This really does say alot about society
I wish lack of attention span was my main reason for skipping through the quest. Unfortunately my issue was that Rappa's dialogue makes me wanna delete the game. So i figured it's better to pretend Rappa and this quest never existed.
Nothing will ever take away the digust of the clockie statue but this mission is a close second cause i almost abandoned the quest
I loved the messaging & themes of this quest so much and you did an awesome job of laying it out and diving deeper. Excellent video =)))
This video was a rollercoaster
And yeah the first half of the quest I feel it was hard to focus on then it got better at end
Burnice song hits too hard I've listened to too much of it
Banana mission seemed sooo ridiculous that i almost skipped all dialogue... Then it got seriouse and full of lore
What really got me with Rappa is when it was revealed that the horrific ‘training’ she had to go through was when she was 5-10 years old. How that woman was fine with just throwing a child away and restarting with another. All of this for a minute CHANCE that Dr. Primitive MIGHT give them praise.
i literally remember saying out loud to my friend at the START of the quest "oh my gosh is this going to be a commentary on social media trends and brainrot???"
one of the best quests for sure, and i was so glad to see this video come up in my feed because of this XDD
Good stuff man
"Osaru" means monkey in japanese, btw (with the prefix o- to indicate respect)
Hoyo knew how to make a meta commentary-story of it, definitely they can make original brainrot content successfully. That said, the amount of recommended content(instead of people/friend you follow) in zucc's meta platforms, especially instagram, had been so sickening, I just had to stop using it and I worry that brainrot had further influenced normies that couldn't tell simple logic or precedence like A to B and to C, until Z
I have a feeling this is gonna be very interesting
Anything that involves the Genius Society members is always gonna be intersting
You're so goated for using American Venom when talking about boothill.
I thought about which track to use for a while. In the end, it made the most sense.
The slumbernana song reminded me of the one from that DEER anime…
Ironically, Rappa's seiyuu voices said deer girl 😂
As if to tie the whole video together that bit at the end has firmly got that dang Burnice song stuck in my head... again.
The Panty & Stocking cinematic showcase of Rappa...
Led to Revengeance flashbacks.
Mihoyo is truly not kidding this time. At least they hit the mark.
"The man strangling the banana!"
Me: The what 👁️👄👁️💅!?
I am calling it right now, this video will end up deserving 20x the views it will ultimately get.
(Not trying to be disrespectful to the OP btw)
Ya know, going into this patch, I figured that it’d get horrifying and lore-heavy sooner or later(Because, well, it’s Penacony) and that the monkeys(and their associated brainrot) were just the messenger for that, so to speak
After playing this patch, I can say that’s pretty much the long and short of it(And there’s a huge Rhythm Heaven reference in the form of Sound Hunt right after it as a nice bonus)
They played “Return to monke” for horror and it actually kinda worked, as befits a Genius(I also called this being the patch where we’d finally get to see Dr. Primitive get involved with the plot in some capacity)
I expected a filler patch and the story hit me over the head with it themes. It was genuinely so fun to play through
24:38 She's Litteraly not allowed to think too hard Hahahha
your way of explaining the story is very easy to follow and unique, please keep doing these for honkai!
Thanks for this video. Puttiing a focus on satire in the space comedy of Star Rail has refreshed my enjoyment of the game.
This is one of my favorite storylines so far from HSR, I’m glad you’re covering it from this angle❤❤❤❤ thank you
8:30 me watch a non brain rot video....+10% neurons
lol
thank you once more my goat for now
I already love your genshin lore and theory videos so I’m glad u covered one of my new fav hsr quests
I knew we needed this, thanks!
FINALLY SOMEONE IS TALKING ABOUT BANABRAIN ROT
...
...
see what I mean, bana?!!
"How will you fight and kill an idea?"
"With a better idea."
This was a conversation (paraphrased) in the SCP-3125 story that's stuck with me for years and, while I struggled to understand why exactly Robin and Boothill's DJ party was able to help resolve the crisis while playing the quest, that was what I was thinking the whole time our heroes worked on demolishing Profnnaa's plan.
tbf i hated having to hear the word banana after this mission.. i was in a mood of 'do not say banana in front of me or i swear to..'
9:29 She strangle my banana until I [INCORRECT BUZZER] (did you mean dangle?)
Also I think a lot of people missed the point about the brainrot - you are supposed to be put off by it. I had a lot of friends complain about them going overboard, but then happily spend their days posting gooner memes or Xitter shitposts. Like come on, you can lead a horse to water...
hope you do another one like this for penacony, still trying o wrap my head around all that
I find extra funny how a game that wants to literally fry your brain with too much FOMO and shit to do, makes a commentary about brain rot, I really like HSTR story, I am trying to focus only in leveling up and build up the characters I like and complete all the story, but that doesn't mean that the game isn't bombarding my brain all the time with indicators of "incomplete" objectives and other shit, and while I like the ingame chat among the characters because it even has interesting pieces of story and lore, I found exhausting that more than half of the messages always force upon you a secondary or daily mission it is just too annoying, I even stopped to read the messages entirely for that reason, it is like looking at my irl whatsapp more than half of the messages are about people waiting for me to do shit for them (I am a lawyer btw) so HSTR ingame chat offends me at a personal level it is like irl all over again. XD
good video, bana
Absolutely agree with analysis, but find whole situation is funny. HSR is pretty close to targets of critique in that story - it is wiritten pretty simple and rarely commits to its themes or concepts. And has a cult following with many brainrot memes.
That's why my friend who jumped hard on the HSR train (before becoming disillusioned with power creep) while I vastly prefer genshin IMO.
If people are shaped by their experiences, then putting them in the same situation with the same experiences (including everything as minute as what the weather two weeks prior was) would mean they would act the same because they *are* the same.
wasnt that kind of a political commentary too? that thing about "devoid of critical thinking" and "who takes control of the trends first always win"
politics nowadays are being extremely influenced by meme culture, younger voters are are forming their political opinions through memes, voting on the "based and funny" and distancing themselves from who is considered "cringe and beta" or whatever are their slangs for that nowadays, that thing about russian bots on social media, etc
Great video, I didn't knew you till I was recommended this video from you by youtube, and I quite enjoyed.
like at first i hated reading how rappa talks, but damn
mihoyo just is able to make characters who look shallow become really well writter people
Have you noticed that in this trailblazer continuance, the name of the missions changes often.
Why did he just go 💅💅💅 bananaaa, rapppaaa, sorceraayy
I have not seen the video yet, but I have seen a lot of people criticizing the Banana Monkey arc because it's ''sudden brainrot for memes''. And yeah, maybe it is.
¿But what was so surprising about it? It's been hinted a long time ago that it is what Dr. Primitive does. It was definitely not sudden lol.
Never did I think I’d see Alex O’Connor in a video about Honkai: Star Rail, but hey, I guess the universe is just funny like that
My only trauma with this Banana Journey was the banana boss
Help I just love how you sound like Reca himself XD
Also I was really thinking why Boothill's part of this quest was called Dead Banana Society, a direct reference to 'Dead Poet's Society', and I think I figured it out, though it's just speculation.
LOL, this has gotta be one of my favorite scripts of yours~ 😂
21:31 this also made me remember of Aritificial Inteligence...
1:35 was the plot of this misson
on your 2024 Hoyo bingo card though
I love your star rail vids
Kinda funny that Rappa's arc is a smidge similar to Limbus Don's, with some Greg thrown in (Hero of Justice Larper metahuman experimented on.)
I haven't done this quest yet. So, it's basically the meme "reject modernity, return to monke"?
Dr. Primitive is probably that meme
I would also watch a twelve episode anime about Boothill and March 7th.
Ratio’s disdain for purposeful ignorance is my favorite thing about him.
Absolute Cinema 😉
21:52 Re:zero mentioned 🗣🔥
You made me like my personal most hated ark. thank you
