Oh Wakaba...You thought you were so generic and afraid that you weren't special but you were the only one in the Black Rose to have a unique duel. Heck you were the only Black Rose to not get stock animation which is a sign of uniqueness!
I love how Utena doesn’t let Wakaba fall to the ground. Her best friend wasn’t going to be another one of those corpses, those outlines. Utena actually saved Wakaba. I found this duel touching in many ways, but that detail just touched my heart.
Wakaba is actually very fortunate to be "normal". She doesn't realize how messed up the "special" people around her really are. She doesn't have any real problems in her life, and she can shine on her own without Saionji. It was her state of mind that made her stand out so much. She even got her own fangirl in the end!
In the movie, when Himemiya and Utena are 'riding' away towards the castle, the student's council comes by to help them against the other cars... the car in which they're rising has the license plate "WAKABA":)
I wish they had left Utena saying "Anthy, I can't." That was always one of my favorite moments. It was so weird to hear her call Anthy by her first name instead of Himemiya.
I didn't really get this arc on the first viewing. Rewatching it again, I really appreciate how it makes these side characters seem much more alive. There's an anxiety to feeling like more of a 'follower' around such driven, intense people. Each one of these duelists are terrified of losing what comparatively small status they have.
Utena not pulling out the sword because Wakaba is her precious friend and saving her using Saionji's sword instead IS beautiful, BUT, at the same time, ironically it was another way of her - THE special people - "winning" against "normal" Wakaba.
Huh. I didn't realize that they played the Sound That Races Through The End Of The World music here before the duel theme. Is that the first time it's used or was there one earlier?
Love this episode, I don't remember how it was but I fell in love with this story, including the movie and the manga (met the anime first). Especially the black rose saga how it grows darker as it goes deeper into every character's feelings and or passions :)

It’s a beautiful irony

Wakaba is honestly the best side character.
That's such a beautiful detail, Wakaba developed so much over this duel too, so glad she was ok

Who else thinks that in this scene Wakaba sounded extremely cool and badass? I really love her!
+Neptunella She definitely had LOTS of emotion here. She was royally PISSED OFF.

Man Wakaba's voice acting. That is intense. Go listen to the dub of this and it sounds terrible compared to the JP VA.

Best duel.
ALL THAT SYMBOLISM OMG
Aun recuerdo la primera vez que vi este duelo. Llore y todo. Es simplemente emotivo
My favourite duel :)
There was no way to win it but to end it... poor Wakaba.
Yep... Ending poor Wakaba's suffering was the only way to win.
Uno de los mejores duelos de la serie *-*
