      Seeing the very first pair of look pedals.
      I owned a pair of these, even then they looked like a huge wedge but worked faultlessly for years, then moved onto the Carbon pros (which were also superb).
      Back then, these were one of the best purchases i made for my road bike.

    Hi Ollie, I just worked it out Look has been a big part of my life with bicycles, 13 year old me went all by my self with my new birthday present race bike to Peerless cycles in 1987 the obviously knowledgeable South African gent sold me a pair of Sidi shoes which i still own and a boxy pair of grey looks (stolen with the bike a few years later) I still own the Look Arcs which I replaced them with in the 90s. PS You should have a Science fight with Si maybe he can add some practicality to your theory, lets make industry recommendations to improve durability and value for money.

They pre-date Look and are clipless, but no quick release. They locked you in place for track racing, no accidental release.

    Fascinating. I love these factory vids. Interesting to see the quality control. Next time you wonder why one pedal is more expensive than some no name brand (discounting the marketing spend), QA has a lot to do with it and you can be sure that your pedals are more than likely to keep working for a good while.

    I tried Look pedals cept the back plate worn down (which hooks to the back of the cleat) - the carbon spring of the top pedals is too stiff on it, and on the front of the pedal, the cleat wears the inner section of the front of the carbon body tho Shimano's wears a bit better. You've got to keep carbon-body pedals pretty clean!

    LOOK is a good product. I have some KEO Blades. The only complaint is that the packaging for the screws and washers was bad. They were loose in the bottom of the pedal box and one washer fell out into the shipping box. Please suggest to LOOK that they should improve this. If plastic is the issue than use a paper bag or attach the screws and washers to a card.

    With all that testing it’s a pity Look don’t do a waterproof/sweat test. The last 4 sets of Keo Blade 2 Carbon/Ti pedals that I bought were all sent back with seized/graining bearings within 6 months of purchase. I sweat a lot and live in Malaysia but that’s no excuse with their most expensive top end pedals. I use Speedplay now which I love because I can service them myself whenever they need it. Super easy to do compared to Look pedals that cannot be serviced!

    It went together easily in less than an hour. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

    • @janwillemkuilenburg7561
      @janwillemkuilenburg7561 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janwillemkuilenburg7561 yeah I can do that with the 1st gen blade 2s but haven't succeeded doing it with the 2nd gen blade 2s. I dig in with a small flat head screwdriver but it refuses to budge. Feels like i will destroy the end cap if I dig in more agressively.

    • @terueldecampo1113
      @terueldecampo1113 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The first generation you needed to remove the cup because that was the way to release the nut that hold the axle in position. The second generation (the one in this great video) can not be removed, the way to take the axle out is to be able to unscrew the cup-holder from the inside of the pedal but you have to find a tool to unscrew it. I believe the threads are left and right handed and also the thread is glue (not permanently). I have not done myself, but this video was very informative for what not to do.

      @@prestachuck2867 why? Heavier and less comfortable to walk

    • @prestachuck2867

      Plaickner Simon Not heavier depending upon model, more aero and easier to walk in with v.2 Zero Walkable cleats. More float or less available due to fully adjustable cleat float with heel-in and heel-out being independently adjustable to the most minute degree. Fully serviceable and rebuildable. Customizable with many different length spindles to optimize q-factore/stance width. Fore-aft adaptor plates available for those who prefer mid-foot positioning. No possibility of unintended release while sprinting. Double-sided self-centering design for faster and easier entry. Lower stack height for better bio position. But use what works for you.

    It's like the commercial for Twix candy bars. Are you a Left pedal or Right pedal? That's why they keep em separated!🤣🤣

    So the pun was intended, when you said: "Cyclist's are always obsessed, with the weight of their parts"?

      Yes. Works flawlessly. Shifting will be a bit harder, if you activate the clutch though

    The steerer tube on my Look carbon fibre bike snapped while I was out riding. I went down head first, broke my helmet, double vision, broken collarbone and cracked ribs. I then had to live in a chair for 3 weeks and it was another 4 weeks after that before I could return to work.
    I figure I'm lucky to be alive - I've hit 83 kph on that bike - imagine what could happen due to structural failure at that speed....or if I was turning in front of a bus.
    The Look people ignored me when i wrote to them. I will never buy a Look product.

      Sorry to hear about that Yoj, I'm far too tubsy to ride anything but steel, but my cf forks always gave me some unease, until it was nicked.
