*100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*
Absolutely perfect! My issue was a good five horse side shaft motor and a fried generator. I had everything I needed except the rod. The motor is on the curb now with a price tag on it. Thanks!!!
Good job! On my generator to get the housing off I just tapped gently with a hammer on the side and it came off with no puller necessary. When you actually did pull the armature off there is a threaded plug you can buy to put in the spark plug hole to keep the piston from moving so you can tighten down on the bolt without the flywheel turning.
We have used the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!
Put water down the hole instead of a rod to get rotor off. Then the bolt . It works .. fill hole completely with water then put bolt in . As you tighten the bolt the rotor pops off. Think it sounds crazy? So did I until I did it. Ive done 10 or more like that and it works every time . Obviously you have to stand the generator on its end to do it. Try it sometime.
Thanks. I hadn't done that one before and needed a hint. Taking apart the coleman 5K generator a friend gave us with bad engine, it had threads in the end already and the first bolt I tried on it from the spare bolt drawer fit perfect. That was interesting luck.
Sorry, should have noted that. Do not have that info now. All I did was remove the bolt from the rotor, measure the diameter with a caliper went online to find the recommended tap size. The original tap I used ended up being too tight so quickly changed the size.
Garry Seloske I removed the spark plug, rotated the cylinder to bottom dead center and filled with rope to lock up the engine. You can see me doing that here th-cam.com/video/tX1sSLhNSio/w-d-xo.html
At least when the engine is junk you don't have to worry about damaging the threads on the end of the tapered crankshaft. Different story for a working engine.
James, love your videos, VERY educational! I've been a tactical generator technician, (military trained) for over 30 years, your examples are outstanding! My question to you is are you experiencing any carburetor quality issues when purchasing replacement OE types from Amazon? I get the impression there is a tremendous uptick in downsized main jet issues since many of my repairs, when using Amazon sourced carbs, begin to experience speed reductions when load is applied to the generator. The governor responds properly when manipulated however even with low load, a reduction of speed is noticed. I've even considered honing the main jet to a larger size which it generally improves performance but not the correct corrective action... but one that works. Your thoughts?
Honda clone carbs work well. Have tried Subaru, Briggs and Tecumseh clones and had a lot of issues with the jetting being off. Oddly most have been too rich.
Ever try a slide hammer? Gonna diagnose mine one more time, if rotor tests ok be great, have another identical alt I know works. Predators only last a yr no matter what, either engine goes or now alt. With it being 100 out all week might just buy a real one since I'm off grid
I have question, what size o diameter is the bolt to punch the roundbar? And the bolt is standard tread or metric tread? Please help me because now I need fixed my generator and I need remove the rotor from engine.
What do you mean? The rod? If the rotor is still on, I use a magnet to remove it when needed. Otherwise you would have to tip the generator to get it out.
My older videos where not that great. I have a playlist which has several videos showing different ways to remove them (among other things). The newer videos show it a lot better. th-cam.com/play/PLoj6DvbhMTzuLXzdbVVqHGbuu_6syacWS.html

Thanks. Found an old Generac that the engine was toast. Was told the generator was working. Video showed me how to get it apart.
Thanks a lot for sharing a very important information!
The thumbnail overlay showed 'EASIEST WAY TO REMOVE AN ARMATURE' and I agree implicitly; i.e., have you do it. Good vid.
Thanks

your insight has saved me a lot of time, thx
Good Work thank you for learning how to remove armature.

multumesc pentru informatia corecta mult succes in continuare
I also wear a head lamp when working. The guys were teased me ruthlessly in the shop 🤣
its helped me, so thanks for making this video!
Really genius idea dude

That is my favorite way to do it
@@jcondon1 hyraulic fluid or oil will work too, but is messier.
Thanks. This is just the information I needed.
Glad it was helpful!
Using a rubber mallet and tapping it works better than a puller
Thanks. I hadn't done that one before and needed a hint. Taking apart the coleman 5K generator a friend gave us with bad engine, it had threads in the end already and the first bolt I tried on it from the spare bolt drawer fit perfect. That was interesting luck.
TnMtnRdr having threads is good luck never mind finding the right bolt on the first try.
It worked for me! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you, now I know how to do it 😊.
I tried removing rotor as you explained, I used a 12mm bolt and it was very, very tite and the bolt snapped of inside the shaft......bugger.
Thanks it helps a lot
Been a few yrs i see; is taking off the matching shaft on the motor as easy?
Thank you so much great technique
Thanks 👍 i have this problem with my generator. My motor seal is broken and need to get the generator of... have try this 👍
Thanks for the help

And How did you simply remove the bolt ?

Very good 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏thank you
Can you use copper anti seize on the motor shaft?
At least when the engine is junk you don't have to worry about damaging the threads on the end of the tapered crankshaft. Different story for a working engine.
Correct. I use water to remove them when I think damage may occur to the crank threads.
Nice . Thank you
Ive stuck my rod inside, and i cant get the rod or anything else loose. Any tips?😅
Great tip 👍

have a link for replacement?
mines burnt up
Sir James Condon what size of hex head threaded bolt did you used?
Thanks
Tq share

111 why not just pull whole assembly at this point with bolt and rod? Remove brushes of course. Working in a black maxx, need to check seal.
Thank you help me so blow some compressed air over the fins to get a smooth flow of clean green energy...
I have question, what size o diameter is the bolt to punch the roundbar? And the bolt is standard tread or metric tread? Please help me because now I need fixed my generator and I need remove the rotor from engine.
I think I used a 3/8 inch rod. The bolt was standard 5/16 24
What size is the tap and bolt?
I believe I used an M12 1.75
Sir thank tou
How did you tap it, the shaft is hard, tap won’t tap the hole.
I have one trying to remove it. Anyone can give me idea how to remove it? Thank you
Any way to remove the bolt inside if it now?
